X230 UltraBase 3 has no video on Displayport monitor after sleep

I am having a strange issue with my X230 when docked in the UltraBase 3.  This seems to have started in the last month  so I suspect either recent BIOS or driver issue.
Displayport video output sometimes fails to go to my external montior (Samsung S22A460 via Displayport to DVI adapter)
If I turn on the X230 and immediately log on, the external monitor works great.  But if I turn on the machine, walk away for a few minutes and then come back to actually Ctrl-Alt-Del and log on, the external monitor gets no signals.
I can log on to the X230 and it works fine with its own display.  Undocking and re-docking does not start the external monitor.  Restarting the X230 in the dock does not fix it.  Full shut down  followed by power up will get the X230 to detect the external monitor again.
If the machine + monitor combo starts and works it keeps working.  The machine can go to power save mode and dim or turn off the monitors.  Both the internal and external will come back on after waking the machine.
If the external monitor fails to get output at first startup, the only way to get it working is full shutdown and power up.

If you just bought your mini, it's most likely an Intel-based one. There is no PMU on the Intel mini's and following the instructions to reset the PMU may cause harm. Instead this version of the mini uses a Systems Management Unit (SMU). The proper reset of the SMU can be found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
However, I don't think resetting the SMU will help much here. Is it possible for you to substitute another monitor? If so, and it works, we would want to concentrate on the video settings for your Samsung.
Your mini is capable of supporting the following maximum resolutions:
- DVI video output to support digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports noncoherent digital displays up to 135MHz
- VGA video output to support analog resolutions up to 1920 by 1080 pixels.
For DVI your mini should easily support the max. resolution of the Samsung (1600 x 1200). Not so for Analog.
Also make sure you have the proper DVI cable. You can use either a DVI-D or DVI-I cable. Single link will support resolutions up to 1920 x 1080, while dual-link will support resolutions up to 2048 x 1536.

  • Lost video on 2nd monitor after 10.10.3 update

Howdy.  Upgraded my main mac pro to Yosemite 10.10.3 this morning and find that video on a 2nd monitor (verified good) has gone away.  It seems to be a driver issue.  This is with a Radeon 5770.  It is still driving my main monitor without any problem, however, the 2nd is not getting signal and does not show in system profiler.
The monitor and cable/adapter chain has been checked and verified all the way to the card.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Eric.
Thanks for providing the easily accessible link with standard OP information.  I have reset PRAM and undergone all other hardware and software checks.  There is nothing wrong with the cabling, card, or monitor.
I can boot into earlier versions of the OS, going back to 10.5.  ALL except for 10.10.3 produce NTSC video on my Radeon 5770 as a 2nd monitor.  Something about the 10.10.3 update broke the 2nd display.  The problem is specific to 10.10.3 and no other versions of the OS.
I suspect a bug was introduced regarding multiple-display setups (I have 3) with 10.10.3, OR the feature set for multiple displays was changed without notice.  However, I can't seem to find a way to connect to apple support to investigate the issue without paying a service fee for the privilege.  I was really hoping I could get some actual insight into the issue, as I'm familiar with all standard troubleshooting and software issues.  I have, after all, but using Macs since 1987...
    Cheers.

  • Has anyone solved the bluetooth pairing after sleep issue

I still get this problem I wake my mac and no mouse ! it won't pair, prefs says its connected but its not. A reboot works, but whats the piont of that it should work..

Great, done that appears to have done it. I will check after an extended sleep, as thats when it tends to go wrong.
It is a bit tedious to have to keep ironing out Lion bugs. If I had spent £350 on a Windows machine I would expect this, but when I spend £2000 on a Mac I do feel it should just work.

I received a message on my iPhone 4 that has a video attached to it. I "saved video" but don't know where. How do I find it and send it to mi MacBook Air?

It would have saved to your camera roll.  Connect the phone to your Air via a USB cable and then run Image Capture which is located either in your Utilities folder or Other folder, depending on what version of Mac OS X your are running.  You will then see all the photos and videos stored on your iPhone and can then download them.

  • How can I add new content in iDVD to a DVD-RW disc which has ample remaining free space? After preparing the new video for burning and clicking on Burn to iDVD, I get a window saying the disc's already recorded and that I can either Erase or Eject.

How can I add new content in iDVD to a DVD-RW disc with a video previously successfully recorded on it? (The disc has ample remaining free space.)
After preparing the new video for burning and clicking in the File menu on Burn to iDVD, I get a window saying the disc's already recorded and that I can either Erase or Eject. My assumption has been that iDVD would automatically find the free space and continue with the new recording from there. I'd be grateful if anyone can shine light on this.

There are, but not with a DVD written as a movie disk. It must be closed when completed, or it doesn't work.
Apple's built in Burn utility also automatically closes any data CD, DVD or Blu-ray disk you burn. Doesn't matter how much space is unused, you can't use it. You'd have to use a more advanced disk creation app, such as Toast Titanium. I then have the option of choosing to write the data as a session:
I can keep doing this until the disk is full. If I've written five sessions to the disk, when I put it in the drive, five CD/DVD icons will appear on the desktop since the OS will treat each session as if they are separate physical disks. At any point you choose Write Disk when writing a group of data, that means you're closing the disk, and again can't add anything after that. So if I had written two sessions, and the third was Write Disk, it's over. I can't put anything else on that disk.

  • Just bought Apple TV. Our Hi Def TV only has S Video or RCA outlets. Can we use the Apple TV?

Just bought Apple TV. Our high def tv only has S Video or RCA connectors. Can we use the Apple TV? Thanks

Apple TV only supports HDMI. It doesn't sound like it is an HDTV, even if you use an adapter there is no guarantee it would work and even then you would not be able to watch HDCP content (i.e. iTunes, Netflix etc).
If the TV is not widescreen and/or doesn't support at least 720P you will also have issues around that.

  • How to upload to Youtube a slideshow made with Keynote: it has separate video

I made my 1st slideshow with Keynote tonight, but when I exported it, or converted to a video, it was in 2 pieces!  A video and a audio file.  I wanted to upload it to Youtube, and I don't know how to do it.  Youtube has a "Video Editor" but I couldn't get it to work.  I wish Keynote would export like iPhoto and produce a video that has the sound included (but iPhoto isn't so good for including text).  Do I have to put Keynote slideshows into iMovie to add sound?

    Hey blckhed,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. You can easily get your slideshow to YouTube. The following article will assist you in the process.

Premiere CS6 won't import mov files, the message: "file has no video or audio streams" shows up instead. How can I import the files?

MOV is a wrapper that can contain many different codecs. The message you get is indicative of a distribution codec inside the MOV wrapper. You may need to convert the material to an editable codec before importing.

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. Might also apply to new machines w/o AppleCare.

I'm making a DVD for our class reunion.  A fellow classmate has some video on a mini cassette that he said he could put on a dvd.  Will I be able to import from that dvd to imovie to use in my dvd?  Or does it have to be in another format, maybe flash drive?

Ask your friend to supply you the DVD as a data DVD using either DV or AIC as the video format, burning the DVD as a DVD for a DVD player will degrade the video quality.

  • No video after sleep mode.

Brand new home built system (all new components unless noted otherwise) running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on the following hardware:
    MSI X58 Pro-E motherboard,
    Intel Core i7-920 (2.66) CPU,
    Enermax PRO82+ 525W powersupply,
    Sapphire ATI HD5670 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E video,
    8GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM,
WD Velociraptor 150GB 10,000 RPM boot drive,
WD 500GB Caviar Black for file storage,
    Plextor DVD-RW,
    CoolerMaster case.
    Older Viewsonic VP2030B monitor,
    Older Microsoft Desktop 6000 V2 keyboard/mouse.
With standard Windows 7 power saving features enabled, the following
    intermittent problems occur:
After the system has gone into sleep mode, the video card provides no signal to the monitor. Moving the mouse or touching keys on the keyboard obviously bring the system back out of sleep mode, but no video signal is received. Unplugging the DVI-D
cable from the card results in the Windows sound indicating a change. Plugging it back in, results in a Windows sound indicating the change. This happens when you unplug one end of the cable, it doesn't matter if it is at the monitor end or the video card
end - as long as the other end is of course still plugged in. The only resolution to this "no video" state is to reboot the computer with the power or reset button.
On some occasions when turning the PC on, there is no video signal. The system boots properly (although the BIOS screen takes about 15 seconds to appear - something MSI says is OK), and can be shut down with the correct keyboard sequence. The monitor
runs through VGA, DVI-A and DVI-D, but no signal is ever received so it goes into standby mode.
When the computer boots properly, usually while it is still loading Outlook (which is set to start automatically), the screen goes completely blank for 5 or more seconds, then comes back on and the monitor menu indicates that it is running at the correct
resolution, and then the video works correctly from there on in - unless it goes to sleep.
On some occasions, when recovering from a "no video after sleep mode" incident, everything on the screen has been moved towards the upper left side of the screen. The Outlook window which is normally quite large (80%) and centred on the screen has been reduced
in size to about 50% and shoved into the top left corner. Also, the 4 gadgets that normally run vertically along the right side of the screen have been moved up and towards the middle of the screen, one or two of them often overlap others.
    Things I have done/tried:
    All Windows 7 updates,
    All motherboard BIOS updates,
All video card drivers and software updates from ATI,
    Replaced the DVI-D cable,
Uninstalled the video card and drivers, and moved the card to a different PCI-E slot,
Replaced the video card with another Sapphire ATI HD5450 card (temporarily).
Sapphire thinks it's a hardware problem with the original card, but since temporarily replacing it with another card, the problems continue, so I doubt that is the issue. (Plus I have to pay $25 to ship the apparently defective - under warranty card - back
    to them.)
These problems have happened intermittently since the system was built in January 2010 and they seem to be quite random, sometimes not happening for weeks, other times happening every few days. Sometimes the system is in sleep mode for 1/2 hour and it happens,
other times it is in sleep mode for hours and it happens (or doesn't).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi again,
OK, I finally got around to trying this. I still have to check if that actually fixed it, but I managed to get into the "Factory" OSD screen.
I had my system running, disconnected my new monitor and plugged in the flaky old Viewsonic. I then:
    1. Depressed and held down the #2 button, then depressed and held down the Power button,
    2. Almost immediately the amber power light turned-on, the backlight turned on and the output image from the PC showed up.
    3. The On Screen Display (OSD) for all the monitor setting came up (at the bottom of the screen instead of the middle where it normally is), and underneath the Main Menu window in the OSD, along the bottom of the overall OSD window, the word "Factory" appears
in the middle between the control button keys (#1 for exit, and #2 for enter). (It's not normally there.)
    4. Using the down arrow key on the face of the monitor, I highlighted the "Factory" menu item, pressed the #2 key and voula! there was a whole new simple white text on bright blue background window, which among all sorts of settings included "Factory Reset"
    (which is the default selection).
    5. I pressed #2 again to accept and it was done.
All that is left is to do is some user testing to see if the monitor behaves as new.
Additional informtion: in the top of the "Factory" menu it reads: "LOVP AU Ver.0.36"
I took photos of everything and will post them on my Flickr account. To find them go to wwww.flickr.com, click on the search button, then on the next screen click on the People tab, enter my name and click search.
    Thanks again for the advice.
    Tom
