X230t Fingerprint Reader Stopped Working

It seems the fingerprint reader on my x230t decided to stop working. Running Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Device manager lists a "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode" under Biometric Devices and that's it. BIOS claims there is no fingerprint reader installed under the security tab, and the Lenovo Fingerprint software cannot detect the reader, either.
I appreciate any help!!!

HI Anthony, welcome to the forums,
you might like to add which operating system you have installed, which browser(s) you are experiencing the problem with and of course which version of the password manager software you have installed.
If you are using the chrome browser it would appear that a recent chrome update may have caused some issues.

  • Dv4t-1200 CTO Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader stopped working

I recently posted a question in the Windows 8 Expert Day forum, thought I was getting somewhere, and I think it either got too complicated or the Expert Day was over, so no more help. Don't know.
Here is the link to the full post, so that you can have full information of what has already been tried:

I was hoping that someone might have further suggestions on the Service installation section in this inf is invalid message I keep getting while trying to install the drivers for the device.
    I appreciate your help.

  • W540 - Fingerprint reader stops working after sleep

Once again the fingerprint reader stopped working.
When I run the Lenovo Solution Center (v2.7.003 rev 19975) all appears normal. When I go to [Security]>[Fingerprint] I get a <Status> that it is enabled.
However when I [launch] > Fingerprint Manager Pro (v8.01.35 x64) I get the device is not connected.
    See the pictures.
This occurred after coming out of sleep, and warm boot or cold boot did not change anything.  It's now been 3 days.  I have no idea what the hardware is doing as there are no lights.  I did not install any new software, aside from the normal AV updates (MS Security and Malwarebytes ONLY! each aware of the other).
Administrative event logs do not reveal anything.
Device manager has no warning, neither does it show the fingerprint reader.
    Scanning does nothing,
Any workaround ???  Any one else with these symptoms.  I can deal with software, and drivers, but I cannot deal with failure to have hardware switches, lights, and other missing workstation attributes.
    re: Lenovo W540 20BG, 32gb, Win 7 x64, BIOS 2.17, Samsung 1tb EVO

It's an on / off issue.  Partly software and hardware.  I think it a USB / reader problem.  Only occurs occasionally when going to sleep. I do use Zentimo, so that may cause a disconnect when sleeping or at the very least let me know that a disconnect occured.  I just type my user PW, as the reader's surrounding surface is now glossy,  Never had that problem with other high gloss chassis. Oddly the track pad is immaculate and not shiny!
Reader resumes - in most cases - after cold boot with power off for a while.  If I do a warm boot, the reader remains innactive and disconnected.
So far the machine from a software side is tamed and works great, it the harware interface with the internals that is a POS.
If the machine works great, it's because of Intel, nVidia, Micron, etc.  The user dialog to the hardware is missing when PROBLEMS (not issues) occur.
Thank you for your concern.  Hopefully these issues will be resolved after my yearly update. Albeit, Win 10 concerns me <vbg>.  I think MS Win 10 will go the Adobe route, with a yearly subscription after the free 1 year.

  • Hp Envy Dv7 fingerprint reader stopped working ! what should I do?

Fingerprint reader of Hp Envy Dv7 stopped working after I downloaded and installed an update as Hp support assistant showed a message

I understand the fingerprint reader quick working after an HP Support Assistant update.
What was the name of the update that was applied?
    What is the product number?
NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.
If you perform a system restore to a date before the update, does the fingerprint reader work?

  • Pavilion dv7 fingerprint reader stops working after several hibernate/suspend cycles

After severl hibernate cycles, the fingerprint reader on my Pavilion dv7 latop stops working. The indicator LED no longer flashes (in either colour), and nothing happens when I scan my fingerprint. I'm forced to revert to password login.
This has been an issue since getting the laptop. Fingerprint scanning works fine at first after a reboot, but when I hibernate (or, for that matter, suspend) the laptop after using, I'm never sure whether the scanner is going to work when I restart it. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and the only way that I've so far found to fix it is to reboot.
I've tried using installing the latest driver from HP's support site, although it seems to be dated May, 2011, and, interestingly, claims to fix a problem with not restarting after several hibernate cycles (hint: it doesn't). I've tried uninstalling and then re-installing the driver. Doesn't seem to make much difference.
Laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7-6166nr with Windows 7 64-bit Professional installed (although the problem was present with the factory-installed Windows 7 Home Premium).

Try downloading and running the HP Support Assistant if you have not already. It can search for updates for you specific to your notebook. Here is a link to the download: http://goo.gl/gvpTr

  • Ideapad U460 fingerprint reader stopped working

A few weeks ago the fingerprint scanner on my girlfriend's U460 stopped working. She was deep into a major project at the time so I wasn't able to really look into it until now. To the best of my knowledge no new software was installed around that time and the only updates would have come through Windows Update.
The software does not recognize that the fingerprint scanner is connected. I uninstalled the software, restarted, and installed the latest version (5.9.3.6245) for Windows 7 64-bit from the lenovo download page. The problem seems to be that either Windows isn't detecting the hardware or that it's been given a generic driver and I can't find it. There's nothing in the device manager that appears to be the fingerprint reader.
Normally with these symptoms I'd assume the hardware has gone bad, but looking for solutions there seem to be a lot of issues with Lenovo fingerprint readers. I just haven't seen anything about what I'm seeing specifically. Any ideas?

    hey louiedog,
is there anything in the device manager called "security devices" ?
if there is, could you check if there is anything listed in it ?

  • FIngerprint reader stopped working after windows automatic updates

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Envy j109tx laptop.
From day one the finger print scanner was not working.
After updating hp simplepass it started to work.
Again today I installed some windows update. After that it stopped working.
The light in the fingerprint reader is not turning on.
Is there a fix for this?
    Someone please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    @naga5speed ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  First thing did you do the windows update due to your system having some issue?
If not then do a system restore back before the update.
It is probably some microsoft update that is conflicting with the driver.
It is good to keep your system up to date.  But it is better to make sure before you run an update that you take a look as to why you are updating.
Do I need to fix an issue?
If i do not do the update will something stop working?
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If this fails to work then you may have to back up your data and run a system recovery.  The reason for this is what ever update you ran has made changes to system files or the registry that a restore will not fix.

  • X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

    Hi,
I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.
I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available.
It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.
    Any ideas other than hardware?
    Thanks,
    SA.

Turns out I can't get into the BIOS... I suppose I locked it with my fingerprint.  Talk about a catch-22.
It does ask for my BIOS password when cold booting (which is the same as the administration password I believe).
Is it a sign of larger trouble? Any way to override the BIOS access restrictions from within Windows?

  • Qosmio X300 - Fingerprint sensor stopped working

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me ?
First, please excuse my poor English, I'm Norwegian ( ! )
and allow me to tell you that I am just "normally" technical ...
-so please, please "speak" so I can understand.
My fingerprint sensor stopped working today, this has happen before,
restarting the computer has previously "fixed" the problem, but not today ... !
I have dowloaded and installed new drivers & software ( TrueSuite Access Manager ) ( from Toshiba support ) -- still not working ...
I have checked the Device manager ( Biometric Devices )
It says that the device is working properly. It says that the drivers are all up to date.
But it still does not work.
I've been on the phone with Toshiba support for a long time today, but not even support could help me ...
they had never heard of a similar problem on a Qosmio X300 before ( ? )
They suspcted that I had send it in for service ... and I would like to avvoid this, if I can ...
Cause that means that my computer will be gone for at least 14 days ...
I have also read all threads about fingerprint problems in this forum, and tried everything ... but nothing helps !
When I'm promted to scan my finger, the scanner seems to be "dead" ... ?
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem ?
    Hoping for help !
Thanks so much for taking the time ...
    Sincerely ms.norway

    Hi Luke_1
Thanks so much for your answer. I did download the BIOS update, but got a message that I allready had the latest version,
so there would be no updates installed ... I guess that I ( without remembering ) dowloaded and updated this some time yesterday ( ! )
I guess that the next step will be to use the recovery disk ...
I would if possible, not do that, cause that means that I have to reinstall every program etc., right ?
Sorry ... this might sound like a stupid queston, but as I mentioned ... I'm just "normally" technical, so you have to excuse me on this :-)
Or I might just give up and send the computer in for service/repair ...
By doing this I might not have to reinstall everything , right ? ( hoping for a positive response on this )
I "suspect" that maybe the fingerprint sensor is broken, since I have tried all possible solutions ...
so this might be the best solution to my annoying problem ...
If anyone happens to have any other sugests, please respond.
Thanks again for your answer !

  • Fingerprint reader quit working PLEASE HELP

Help! I have tried seaching these forums, and nothing has worked.
My fingerprint reader was working fine this morning when I signed into windows.  A couple of hours later, it just stopped working.  HP Simple Pass seems to not even recognize it anymore.
I have tried restoring my system.  Did not work.
I have tried re-installing the driver for the fingerprint reader from HP.  Did not work.
Biometric Devices does not even show up in my device manager.
I am stuck, and I would really like to have this working again.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    I have a Pavilion dv6.
    Model #:  A3E82AV
    BIOS:  F.26 - 04/03/2013 (0790100000205710000620100)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

You did not state your OS:  Assuming Windows 8 - 64bit
HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers & Downloads
Assuming you are on the latest HP SimplePass as shown on your website --
this is important and where you need to be:
     sp61399 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.272 Win7-8
NOTE: This version runs on Windows 7 AND Windows 8
    ==================================================================================
When you say that you reinstalled the Driver from HP,
Did you download and install the driver from your Website?
    Validity Sensor Driver:
    sp58900 Validity Sensor V4.4.234.0
    ==================================================================================
    You might try the following:
Notebooks- Power Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues- Sealed Non-Removable Battery
    OR
Notebooks - Power Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues - Removable Battery
The Power Reset cannot tell the difference between drivers - it does not analyze a driver before applying it.
    EXAMPLE:
If the driver on disk is the wrong driver before the Reset, it is still the wrong driver after the Reset.
If the driver INSTRUCTIONS are tangled, messed up, or missing, then the Reset may fix the problem.
Why a Power Reset works to fix some issues:
The Power Reset does not install anything on your computer, it does not remove anything from your computer, and the Reset does not "change" anything on your computer.  Your data and programs remain as they were before the reset was applied.  The Reset drains out the old instructions and makes the computer go to the Operating System on disk to get new instructions.
Why a Power Reset might Not Work:
If the issue is more than just entanglement, if the "good instructions" on the computer are not good enough -- that is, you need an update, a new driver, or there is a problem that cannot be "untangled", then the Reset will not work.
If there is a hardware problem the Power Reset will not work.
    ===================================================================================
    If No Joy:
Assuming that you can at least now see the Validity Sensor Driver in Device Manager > Biometrics
    Then
    Download your Validity Sensor Driver:
    sp58900 Validity Sensor V4.4.234.0
Open Control Panel > Device Manager > Open your Biometric Devices >
Right Click on your Validity Sensor Driver > Uninstall (AND Tick to delete)
Reboot the Notebook and log in
Install the downloaded Validity Sensor driver
Reboot the Notebook and log in
    ====================================================================================
    A suggestion:
Do not skip the requested reboots...
    Good Luck!

Trying to open PDF and it keeps popping up that Adobe Reader Stopped Working.  And doesn't seem to find a solution to fix.  Has been going on for a couple days.  Can't access pdf files needed for my business.

Also, can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try to disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Satellite A205 - SD Card reader stopped working after Win 7 upgrade

    Satellite A205-SP5818
I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and, among other things, the SD Card reader stopped working. I already downloaded and installed the driver offered in this site: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2190493& rpn=PSAE3U&modelFilter=&selCategory=3&selFamily=10 73768663 (it's the next-to-last driver shown) but it went from not working all together to making funny noices when I insert the SD card... and then not working.
Any ideas of other drivers that might work, or any kind of other solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Try to remove eh SD card controller from the device list.
    Then reboot the unit.
After that windows will ask you for an driver.
    You can download this driver:
    [SD Driver, Flash Memory v2.0.0.7|http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/driver_cardreader_ti_25844A.exe]
You should unzip this package and has to point the driver files in this folder
This should helps to get the SD card reader working again

I understand that your SD Card Reader is not working on your HP Pavilion Elite HPE-500z CTO Desktop PC. Has it ever worked? If so I suggest you follow the steps in the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) and roll your system back to a point in time where your SD Card Reader worked.
If it still does not work after the Microsoft System Restore I would like you to do a backup and recovery of your computer back to factory settings. ***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory).
