X240 - Windows 8 Startup Freezing

Hello, for as long as i had this x240 (about two months) i have had random freezes on startup, ethier during the startup process or shortly after logging in.  I would like the help of the community in deciding whether this is a hardware or software problem.  When booting with the lenovo logo and the spinning circle, blue horizontal lines appear and it restarts.  I have included a short gif of what my screen does when it freezes after boot as it is hard to explain.  Thank You.

  • My windows 7 keeps freezing randomly

Hi I know there were similar questions asked, but I already tried some things like registry cleaning software, and freezing still keeps comming back so I feel like I need a specific and interactive help.
So my windows freezes from time to time, today it was every couple minutes while browsing internet through firefox mostly, and single freeze takes from several seconds to minutes.
Right here for a similar problem I've found suggestion to collect minidump files:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b9c932b4-5926-4f92-b186-c4f90bb86583/windows-7-keeps-freezing-randomly?forum=w7itproperf
I can do it too, if there is someone here to listen :) and will further help me continue solving this. Thanks.
    Tom

Ok, so I got some freezes just moments ago and went to collect minidump files. When I tried this:
Click “Start”, type “%SystemRoot%\Minidump" (without quotation marks) in “Search” bar and press “Enter”.
    ...it found no elements matching.
Yesterday I've done everything like suggested here:
    1. Click "Start", input "SYSDM.CPL" (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press “Enter”.
    2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery".
    3. Under "Write debugging information" section, make sure the "Small memory dump (128KB)" option is selected.
    4. Make sure "%SystemRoot%\Minidump" is in the "Small dump directory" open box and click “OK”.
...except where it sais 128kb I had only option 256kb
so what is going on?  no minidump folder under my windows folder...

  • Error message on Windows 2000 startup, "Tcmsvr.dll, File is missing"

We get the same error messages three times on Windows 2000 startup on some of our companys computers: "Tcmsvr.dll, File is missing". The computers are Tecra s1 models.
Which Toshiba driver is this related to?

I have checked the Toshiba driver page and it seems that the common modules for Tecra S1 are not available.
Anyway, the Tcmsvr.dll file could be also a part of Toshiba console. Its very difficult to detect it.
The Toshiba console is available on the driver page.
    It's worth a try.

  • No finder windows on startup

    Hello,
I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion on my mid-2012 MB Air. When I start the machine the objects on my desktop, e.g., desktop printers, are present, however, there are never any finder windows no matter how many I have created prior to shutting down. I thought about deleting the <com.apple.finder,plist> preferences file and restarting, but this file doesn't appear to get created any longer, or at least spotlight doesn'f find it on my machine.
What can I do so that I have the same number of finder windows on startup that I had on shutdown and in the same location (this didn't seem to be an issue in 10.7)? There isn't anything that, to me, seems like a setting for this in the Finder Preferences panes.
    Some extra information:
I had to have the logic board and SSD replaced last week. The Apple Store installed 10.8 for me after the repair. I did not want to use MigrationAssisant or whatever it's called in case it brought over some corruption from my previous Lion system. So I planned to do a drag and drop of my data and re-download all my applications. I began by dragging over only the mail and mail downloads folders from my 10.7 TimeMachine backup. Before dragging any other data over, it then became clear that the new 10.8 system had some terrible problems; these occurred in my (Admin) account and in a new guest account I created (so not related to the mail and account data I had dragged over). I re-downloaded and re-installed 10.8 and did the system updates. Things seem to work ok now in so far as the issues that occurred before no longer do, BUT with the Finder windows exception mentioned above.
    Thank you.
    Richard

It is normal behavior on log in NOT to have an open Finder window.
If you want them open when you Shut Down on your Apple menu in the dialoge window do you have "re-opnen windows when logging back in" check marked? It should be.
In System Preferences > General do you have "Close windows when quitting application" check marked?
    It shouldn't be.

  • BT 3.1 - No more windows 7 startup sound

    Hey there Apple forums!
I decided to install Windows 7 on my Mac a while ago. I had Bootcamp 3.0 and all the problems related to audio that BT 3.0 had, including the red optical light. Once BT 3.1 was released, I decided to install it. Notice how I hadn't changed any driver from Bt 3.0 until I installed 3.1.
Once I installed the update, most audio problems were immediately solved. No more ghostly red optical light, no more laggy audio, etc. Audio output was still low, but nothing "Enchance audio output" couldn't solve. I was seemingly happy, until i realized that the windows 7 startup sound played no more.
By startup sound I mean the chime that plays when you're in the login screen. This is a very small glitch, as it used to work in Bt 3.0, even with the audio issues it had.
Is there any solution? And before you begin asking protocol questions, yes, the startup sound IS enabled, yes I have the default Windows sounds set, I haven't changed the theme (don't know if that even matters, it shouldn't matter).
If it helps, when i connect two low speakers to the audio output jack and start Windows, and raise the volume, I CAN hear the startup chime in the login screen. But there's not even a faint sound when the external speakers are gone.
Should anyone know a solution, please help me with a post. And the speakers I have suck, so they're not an option.

    Hi
Had same problem, tried everything like reinstalling drivers but still the problem continued. However today i tried changing the driver for the sound card to the generic driver and rebooted my macbook pro. on startup the sound card would not work on the generic driver and the system kicked in with an automatic troubleshoot and installed the correct drivers.
Somehow this has enabled the startup sound to work and the system doesn't startup in a muted state.
Haven't a clue why or how this has worked or how long it will continue to work but give it a go.

  • Bootcamp fails to create windows 7 startup disk

Bootcamp version 5, running on Mountain Lion, keeps failing on creating the Windows 7 Startup disk. I'm using a 8gb USB drive and it formats it without any problems. The process will carry on until around 50% of copying installation files and then fails.
I've tried 2 different USB Flash drives and I've check the ISO image for Windows 7.
Can anyone help me with a solution? Or why this is happening.
    Thanks

Visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.
The Windows Support software download servers are notoriously slow. Try again and be patient. When you say it formats ok, it should be FAT format.

  • Windows 8.1 freezes while booting up with discrete graphic card T520

    Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me here. If I use my discrete video card (nvs 42000m) to boot into windows, it will freeze on the sign in page or sometimes on the metro page however when Optimus is enabled it works just fine.
So I thought it was a driver issue. I went to Nvidia and downloaded their latest video card driver for windows 8.1. No help
Uninstalled that, went to Lenovo's support site and installed their recommended driver and all other windows 8 drivers. Again it would freeze
Booted into safe mode uninstalled that, turned optimus back on, and this time used Windows update to install my video drivers (intel and Nvidia both this time).
Didn't work. So I spent maybe another hour or so fiddling and after many restarts i finally found the culprit. It was the Lenovo monitor driver. As soon as I uninstalled that, everything worked fine and I could finally use my laptop with optimus disabled and discrete video card enabled.
Windows update keeps recommending me to update the monitor driver but if I do, then it freezes again so I'm just leaving it as the default generic monitor.
The reason why I made this thread is to inform and save potential users in the future who have a similar laptop to mine (t520 with hd 3000 and nvidia 42000m) with Windows 8 installed and they happen to choose to solely run their laptop with the discrete graphics card, remember to uninstall your monitor driver.
I am open to recommendations and other alternatives.

  • MacBook Pro 17" with Intel Core 2 Duo startup freeze with 10.6.8?

With my MacBook Pro 17" with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz startup freeze with 10.6.8 - I had problems after several SW upgrades. Startup ends every time in a freeze or a crash, nothing is running, i am not able to type in the password. it starts in beginning with thin colored disrupting lines on the display and this get more and more and than freeze the system.
"Save Boot", startup with shift shows no problems, display is ok, no freeze. So something must new in the video-driver. Is there any driver what I can delete or any new software to help in this issue?

try to boot off the cd installazzione, when the screen appears to follow thePACKING screen viewing. If you've already looked in the manual are your problem?

  • Itunes 10.3.1.55 update on Windows XP install freeze

Itunes 10.3.1.55 update on Windows XP install freeze.
I've tried to remove everything, restart PC and try a new install.
It fails at the same point, while copying files.

I too am having a very similar problem with cover artwork in Itunes version 10.3.1.55 for my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. Certain Artists or Albums cover art will not show up and also when I try to manually add my own cover to the album it does not save. I can however, view with the coverflow option but its useless without all the cover art. I would greatly appreciate any help with fixing this very annoying problem.
I've looked into the direct x suggestions and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks anyway, Polydorus.

  • Keep getting a popup window stating" startup disc almost full, need to delete files"

keep getting a popup window stating" startup disc almost full, need to delete files", what can i do to help with this, i generally have only photos in iphoto, some imovies, and a small amount of documents

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • Windows 7 boot freezes

When i try to boot Windows 7 it freezed with a white screen.  This happens when I use "Boot Disk" in Preferences or select the drive after booting with the "Option" key.  Any ideas, please?

msconfig / chkdsk / Windows 7 DVD system repair or rollback restore point
Ccleaner 3.09 - remove temp files and caches / also run Registry section
Start: Run %TEMP% (select all) and remove all the contents in there
Heat, fans, poor Apple drivers, I would not blame ATI but I would upgrade/install those.
And yes BC 4.0 probably was not tested fully.
