As long as this is a self-diagnosis after your AV was turned off, it might be good if you post on a dedicated security site that can advivse you on running some diagnostic tools and does malware removal if necessary. This forum is not set up for that.
I suggest posting the required DDS logs on the Malware Removal Forum at SpywareHammer or another site with trained analysts and have a malware removal staff member walk you through the diagnostic logs and a cleanup. They do not use remote access but will advise you step-by-step on what you can do. Please do not attempt to run any additional scans, install software, or use any other tools until an analyst can advise you on the next step. Please use the same username there as you have here. Help is free. There are no advertisements or trackers on SpywareHammer as some of the other security forums have, but you will need to register at SpywareHammer and follow the posting instructions for downloading DDS and posting your logs.

  • Os windows 7 trying to install PhotoKit 2.06 in CS4 getting 'Owl Orphanage: Photoshop.exe - Bad Image. Have tried downloading Photokit from a different source - same problem. How can I get this to install please?

Has anyone had a problem installing PhotoKit 2.06 in CS4? I keep getting 'Owl Orphanage: Photoshop.exe Bad Image. I have tried installation files from 2 different sources without success. Pixel Genius suggested dropping the unzipped files directly into Plug-ins -  that didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Peter
I am in touch with Pixel Genius, the plug-in developer, and so far ( this has been going on for 5 days) a solution has not been forthcoming, hence my post. The required files are shown in Windows Explorer but will not load when I fire up CS4. Previously, I ran version 1.2.4 of PhotoKIt without a problem but that was uninstalled to make way for the latest software. Pixel Genius have asked me to open up CS4 Help, System info, and send it to them which I have done. I wait in hope!

  • "Acrobat.exe- Bad Image" error message, Can't open anything with Acrobat

    I have Acrobat Pro 9.0
    OS Windows 7
Just started having this error problem show up within the past couple weeks.
Every time I try to open a document the browser freezes up for a few minutes (and I've tried on two different browsers), wont load the page, then I get this message:
    Acrobat.exe - Bad Image
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\ Acrobat\BIB.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
I have had this program for several months and never had an issue.
Haven't changed anything I can think of...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
I also tried just opening the program directly and got the same message.

  • TS1717 ITUNES.EXE - Bad Image.  C:\Window\System32\Softpub.dll Problem

I have been having a problem getting into ITUNES.  my computer is giving me a Message when i launch Itunes and says
    ITUNES.EXE - Bad Image
C:\Windows\System32\Softpub.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
I have tried downloading the Softpub.dll file and tried replacing it, but my computer says I am not the trusted manager (I am the Admin on this PC and dont know why I cant change it.  if anyone can help that would be great.  Thanks....

b noir - You are awesome!  I was having the "bad image" problem with the after downloading ITunes 10.  I also had a problem with a DEP error (as you know - data execution protection).  I tried so many things in combination to fix these problems, I am not sure which piece of your advice finally did the trick!  Regarding the bad image, I renamed the file as you recommended.  I tried downloading a new softpub.dll.  I didn't think I was successful, but there it was right where it was supposed to be.  I used the Windows Error Checking feature (right click on C Drive, properties, tools) to clean things up.  Lastly, a friend recommended using a different USB port to sync for the first time.  UREKA!  I can now sync.  Thanks for all of your suggestions, b noir!

  • AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Bad Image after upgrading iTunes on Windows 7

The Apple update notifier alerted me a new version of iTunes was available which I installed. The system crashed during installation. Upon reboot the system wouldn't recognize the hard drive. Had to completely shut down and restart the system. Now everytime it starts up, I see an error message titled AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Bad Image with the the following description: F:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\YSFileShim.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. When I try to start iTunes i receive a similar error: iTunes: iTunes.exe - Bad Image... iTunesMobileDevice.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Help!

Try deleting the offending file. If it will not delete, try renaming the file or containing folder.
Then do a Repair install on Apple Mobile Device Support, hopefully this will replace the damaged file with a good one.
AMDS should be listed wherever you Install/Uninstall programs in Windows 7.

  • Updating Acrobat 9.0 causes error "Acrobat.exe - Bad Image"

    Full error is:
    Acrobat.exe - Bad Image
C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat\BIB.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
Running repair doesn't fix it, only un-installing it and re-installing from scratch. This happens on multiple machines with the same result. As soon as the update is ran it no longer opens and has the error.
I've tried manually updating it version to version starting at the first 9.1 release but I run into the same error after installing the first update. Uninstalling Acrobat after manually running the first update produced another error durring uninstallation. Error 1905.Module C:|Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\authplay.dll failed to unregister. HRESULT -2147220472. Contact your support personnel.
System is Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit running on a VDI in a box from Citrix. Version of Acrobat is Pro.
Any thoughts or ideas on this would be great, thanks.
    Joel

Are you running updates from the Help menu in Acrobat or by downloading the updates. When you have problems, it is probably best to try running the updates as downloads from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. You will need to generally install the updates in order. You would reboot after the last update.

  • Re: Can't Logon - How do I fix the error "Winlogon.exe- Bad Image"?

Last night, my laptop did something odd. The screen went blue and it ran a check. The check was in three parts (thats all i remember) Once this was done, my laptop restarted and was working fine.
Later on this morning it crashed and restarted, but when it got to where it usually displays the user logons, it came up with an error message. The title was winlogon.exe- bad image
and the message described how the file was incorrect.
Now my laptop wont let me logon. How do i fix this?

Sounds like the file system has corrupted unfortunately it has affected one of the important files required for windows to boot up.
You will need a boot CD to repair the problem for this I would recommend Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset which you can download from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5D600369-0554-4595-8AB4-C34B2860E087&displaylang=en
Run the installer, go to the install folder and burn "erd50.iso" as an image file (not a data CD) using software such as Nero.
Next you must boot from CD-ROM I'm not sure what procedure this is for your laptop so consult the manual or change the boot order in the BIOS either way it's the method as booting the recovery disc.
When the software has loaded you will be asked which install of Windows you wish to repair if no drives i.e. C: are offered in the list box then you may have to change the BIOS setting with regards to AHCI compatible mode and switched back when you're done.
If C drive is visible good then the hard drive is accessible however you must select "Do not attach a Windows installation." and click on OK.
Click Start, and select "Command Prompt" you will get a black box with white text.
type the following and enter: chkdsk c: /f /r
This command will perform a full scan of your hard drive and correct any errors it may find which could take up to 45 minutes depending on the size of your drive.
When it has finished shutdown and restart your laptop without the CD in the drive, if you've changed the AHCI mode in the BIOS then change it back.
If Windows still doesn't startup then boot from the CD again and rerun "Command Prompt"
    type the following and enter:
    c:
    cd\windows\system32
if entered correctly your screen should display: C:\Windows\system32>
type the following and enter: (note: the dot is required and not a typing error)
    copy dllcache\winlogon.exe . /y
if all goes well you should see a message: 1 file(s) copied.
Shutdown the laptop restore any BIOS settings and hopefully Windows will startup again as normal. :)

  • Itunes.exe bad image error

I have been trying to get iTunes up and running for months now with no luck what so ever. I'm running on Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
On opening iTunes I get the error message
    'iTunes.exe - Bad Image
C:\WINDOWS\system32\softpub.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." '
After clicking Ok a window appears saying itunes has stopped working and that its trying to find a solution. only button is 'close program'. After closing the program a message appears in the bottom right of the screen saying DEP (Data Execution Protection) has closed itunes to protect my computer.
As well as this problem I have been unable to perform a windows update. It has been giving various error codes which I tried to fix using the windows Fixit programs and other fixes but both problems persisted.
I looked thorugh a lot of discussions on different forums online and have tried various things but to no avail. At first I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it (I have now done this around twenty times after trying different fixes) and it downloaded and installed perfectly every time but whenever I tried opeing it I would get the bad image error message.
I have also tried running system file checker (sfc scan) by running command prompt as administrator and it says
'Beggining system scan. This may take some time.
There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. restart windows and run sfc again.'
But when I restart windows and run sfc again it gives exaclty the same message. I repeated this on numerous occasions after trying other fixes but always gave the same message.
I also read that replacing the softpub.dll file in the system32 file could be a fix, so I downloaded a new file but when I tried to either rename the old one, move it or do a move and replce with the new file I was told that I couldn't because it needed the administrators permission. I am the only user and was logged in with administrators rights so don't know why it asked and when I tried to give permission it says
    ' Destination Folder Acces Denied
You need permission to perform this action.'
It gives the option to retry but this just produces the same message.
Any help would be massively appreciated.

Hi, I have a Windows 7 PC and InDesign, IIustrator CS4. When I try to print I get AcroMissingCompWClass Acrobat.exe Bad Image error message. Has anyone come across this?

  • Newdev.exe Bad Image

I finally got my new iPad 2 (Wi-Fi) and haven't been able to get it to work.  When I originally upgrade to iTunes 10.2, it told me there was some kind of communication error and I wouldn't be able to communicate with iPods or iPhones.  I eventually uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled.  I'm on Vista 64 bit, so downloaded that version.
Now when I plug in my iPad is tried to load the necessary drivers, but gives me a newdev.exe - Bad Image message.  The rest of the test is:
c:\windows\system32\wpd_ci.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installed in the program again using the original installation media or contact your system admin or the software vendor for support.
When I click OK, I get a Device installation error.  A couple of times it's said it found new hardware and asked me to insert the CD that came with my iPad (which there isn't).
After waiting months to get this, I'd really like to get it up and running.  Any advice?  Thanks in advance...

Good gracious. Hadn't seen that one before. But since wpi_ci.dll is your Driver Setup Class Installer for portable devices, it's not too surprising that trouble with it might manifest in this way.
It's a Windows operating system file, so an sfc /scannow is worth a try, as per the following document:
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox (maintaining my personalizations, i.e.bookmarks...).  The message continues to appear.

  • Lsc_cli.exe - Bad Image

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo W530 running Win8.1. The installed version of the Lenovo Soultion Centre is 2.4003 Rev 19305.
To be totally frank I don't utilise the Lenovo Solution Centre because I have never really been able to 'penetrate' the Lenovo software on the three IBM/Lenovo laptops I've owned over the years or 'see' what the software does for me.  Maybe I'm just ignorant!
Anyway, the Lenovo Solution Centre icon sits at the bottom of my screen being ignore until I started getting a message pop up on screen with the title lsc_cli.exe - Bad Image.  I haven't been able to work out what prompts this message to appear. However, now as I prepare this post, I note that anytime I open the LSC I get the message. It says:
C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Lenovo Solution Center\App\Idiag\x64\WdfColstaller01009.dll is either not designed to run on Windows 8 or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f.
The message means absolutely nothing to me. Could someone provide some advice on what I need to do to get rid of this message popiing up?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
