X3-02 WLAN/3G/GPRS/MMS Tips

Hello everyone,
Iv'e discovered something about this handset. Hope this can help you.
When I bought this handset, it automaticaly saved an acess point in my settings>configuration.
It was named after my network carrier. The name's "MyGlobe" or lets just call it "Config 1". I thought the phone automatically sent a request for gprs/mms settings like my old nokia phone. But I was wrong.
This configuration have the ff:
    Items recieved:
    *Web
    *Multimedia messaging
    *Streaming
    *x-midlet-NokiaVisualRadio
    *x-midlet-NokiaOviStore
    *x-midlet-NokiaSearch
    *x-midlet-NokiaContacts
    *x-midlet-NokiaCommunities
    *x-midlet-OperaSoftware ASAOpera Mini
    *x-midlet-NokiaOviMusic
    *x-midlet-ShazamEntertainmentShazam
    *Access Point
When I use this settings and open an application that is internet dependent, the phone will prompt me what to use.
Select internet connection:
    Search WLAN
    MyGlobe Connect
    Do not ask
If I'll choose WLAN, it will search for Wireless Access Points.
Then if I'll choose the second one, It will not connect me because It's not the real access point provided by my network carrier. It will only display an H or G but not inside the box. Thus when I choose this connection for my MMS, it wont allow me to retrieve it automatically.
What I did is request an access point from my network carrier and they give me this. The name is "Globe Prepaid" or "Config 2".
    Items recieve:
    *Web
    *Multimedia messaging
    *Access Point
When it's my default configuration settings, and i will open an application that is internet  dependent, it wont promt me what access point to choose. It automaticaly uses 3G/GPRS connection even if i choose the settings that always ask me. And eventually it eats up my credits.
What I did is use Config 1 as my default config settings so I can use wifi so my network wont charge me. And when wifi is not available, I choose Config 2 so i can use 3G/GPRS as my access.
On MMS Settings under messaging settings, i set it as config 2 as the default.
Now I can retrieve MMS automaticaly and resolve my WLAN vs. 3G/GPRS problems.
If you have too many settings in your configuration, and you're kinda confused do this.
backup your phone first. Menu> Settings> Sync and Backup.
Delete all settings in the configuration> Default Configuration Settings.
Power off your phone, remove the battery for a while.
place it back and turn it on.
wait for a while so the phone will create the first access point.
when a settings shows up in the configuration and have its x-midlet-*name*, you have the settings that can choose WLAN or 3G/GPRS.
Remember the name or write it down.
Request an access point from your network provider if you want to use 3G/GPRS access.
I hope this can help you guys.

Check whether you have correct internet settings on your phone and you have activated them correctly. You need to select correct access point to use mini opera.

  • Web Browsing on WLAN without GPRS?

I've recently become the owner of a Nokia 6136. I've noticed that while I see the icons that appear to indicate that I am connected to a WLAN, the GPRS icon still appears when I go to browse web pages.
I'm not sure I understand why the phone needs to make a GPRS connection when it has a WLAN connection and I'm purely web browsing. Is this normal, and does this mean that my mobile operator can enforce a cost on such sessions (which seems a bit unfair because I'm using my own internet connection - although I can understand it if I am making a voice call)?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scottie

You can put a phone on off-line mode, and still be capable of WLAN connection, so no GPRS is need. And WLAN navigation only have the cost (or without it) about WLAN network.

  • OS X Snow leopard and Alice WLAN 1121 Router, any tips?

i have the dreaded Alice Wlan 1121 Router, and with my mac im getting very patchy wifi and enternet access.
    Any tips?
it works fine when using windows 7 on bootcamp, windows xp laptop, Iphone 3GS and my PS3.

You really have two options here.
Your SonicWall Firewall has a built-in VPN server, so you could configure that, point your remote client to the SonicWall's address and you're set - the remote machine will be given an address in your internal (192.168.2.x) LAN and will be able to communicate with all the other machines on the LAN.
The other option is to configure the VPN server on your Mini, in which case you'll need to configure port forwarding on the SonicWall so that the VPN traffic (the UDP ports listed above) are passed through to the server.
The advantage of running on the Mac is that it's automatically tied into the directory system on your Mac, so any user in your Mac's directory will be able to establish a VPN connection. The downside is that it's a little more complex to setup due to the port forwarding requirements.
In either case, once the VPN connection is established your remote Mac will be able to communicate with any machine on the LAN (the Mini, other clients, printers, etc.). The only thing that won't work will be auto-discovery (e.g. Bonjour), so VPN-based servers won't appear in your Finder's sidebar, for example. To overcome this you'll need to make sure your LAN DNS is working properly or know the IP address of each machine on your LAN.

  • Cant send or get MMS

I have a Treo 680 that is unlocked... Everytime I get a mms or try to send a mms it says"MMs error...this message could not be retrieved. The networking connection was interrupted please try again later."
I have full bars and have done all the att updates they have sent me and have done reset on the phone...pullin the battery and holding the power button. Its been like this over 3 months and just found this site. ATT says its the phone not anything on there side? Any one have any ideas...
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

I'm also looking for suggestions to try for this particular error that go beyond the normal GPRS/MMS settings.
I have verified the settings I am using are correct in a series of Palm Treo 650's, I deal with a number of them and every now and again, I come across a Palm Treo 650 where my settings will 'maybe' work on... and by that I mean that the settings seem to not work when first entering, then I can wipe to factory defaults, and the settings may or may not work,  I can wipe to factory defaults again, and the settings may or may not work again, etc.
What does seem to be consistant is that when MMS messages are being sent from the phone when not working, the progress indicator in the upper right will display for an extended period of time, but will not progress beyond 0% and after getting the error: "ERROR: Your message was not successfully sent. The networking connection was interrupted. Please correct this error and try again." I notice that my GPRS Network connection has become disconnected and will need to be reconnected.
When trying to send messages to the device when not working properly, I'm also getting the "ERROR: This message could not be retrieved. The networking connection was interrupted. Please try again later."
I have verified that Internet/Data works fine during this time and would like a more stable solution than having to repeatedly wipe the handheld until the settings I am using finially decide to take and the Treo starts to work for MMS.
I can have 2 Treo 650's side by side with identical OS, GPRS/MMS Settings, and set to defaults where one will work reliably and the other will not work at all until I preform multiple wipes and re-enter the same GPRS/MMS settings numerous times.
The settings I'm using are for GCI in Alaska and I have verified that the problem seems to only impact the Palm Treo 650 Handhelds, other Win-Mobile smartphones seem to not be impacted, the following are the settings I'm using from GCI for the Treo 650 are:

  • C3-00 Next one WLAN problem.. Any help?

    Hi there,
first of all I want to tell u that my English is not perfect but I try to explain exactly what I want.
So, I bought C3 about 4 days ago, then I saw there's a lot of problems with WLAN in C3 but I try to make my own settings in Configuration and then it work and always phone asks me what I want to use: WLAN or GPRS. It was great because I get what I want. But yesterday I want to update my software, because my was from June I think 2010.. Nevermind.. So.. I go to Main Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Update Phone (or something like that.. you know what I mean) > Download update. And then phone should ask me which connection I want to use but it won't. It's just started to connecting to GPRS.
What I can do to work it out? Because it's really annoying..
Waiting for your posts in impatience.
I hope you will understand what I mean.
    Greetings, Spindender!

i newly purchased a Nokia c 3-00 with the firmware version 4.65. My WLAN does not work. It detects WLAN connections available but when i try to connect the phone to the network it shows "Connection Failed". The WEP key is Right and i am near the Router and there is no problem with the router as other Nokia Phones connect with no problems. The Nokia Website is showing a firmware update of  7.20 but when i enter my phone product code it shows that the firmware 4.65 is the latest available for my phone. I have checked the C 3-00 phones of my friends on various  routers and all those phones seem to have the same problem.
    Please Help Me out...
If i need to update my phone to 7.20 how do i do it ? Nokia software updater shows my firmware is the latest.

  • ANOTHER NOKIA C3 WLAN PROBLEM

Ok, I'm not able to choose wlan or gprs internet but untill I was trying to open the Internet via WLAN tel says 'service not available''.'' activating default in all applications'' does not work, simply because it's getting back all my options from WEB and I''m connecting the Int via gprs again. What should I do? any ideas? maybe it's all about my router or so? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    Hi, this is Paulo Bral™,
I recently got an Nokia C3-00 mobile, and I faced so many problems with Wi-FI connection of this phone that I decided to share my experience with you guys.
I am going to write here the definitive guide to fix all WLAN problems you may encounter (and this is something that not even Nokia Support was able to do) - are you ready?
First of all, I am assuming you have the knowledge about Wi-Fi networking (SSIDs, Channels, Security, and all the terms related to setting up a decent Wi-Fi connection), second, you need to have full acess to your router, as we will configure everything from the ground, third and last you will need a tool called InSSIDer from Meta Geeks (Google it) to perform diagnostic tasks explained below.
    Analyzing the networks around you
First off, you need to spend some time running the tool InSSIDer on your PC to collect data from Wi-Fi networks around you as they may be the cause of your connection problems. We will use these 2 visualizations: "Time Graph" and "2.4GHz Channel" to monitor the networks around - if you dont know what you are doing, better close this page and start running away.
    Configuring the router
After collecting data from the networks around, now it's time to set up our router. I found out that I have other 15 networks around me, and I found out here that most of them were using Channel 6, the same I was using. Also some of them are using the Channel 9 and 11. In this case, I set my router to use the Channel 1, as nobody were using it and it is also far away from other Channels being used. After some time collecting data, you will be able to see which Channel has no user or less users, and you must choose it. The security of you WLAN is your choice, as it does not have any side effects. I suggest using WPA2 as it is the most secure of the 3 this mobile supports. BTW, don't ask me how to configure your router, ask Google for it!
    Testing WLAN connectivity
Now it's time to test WLAN connectivity with your reconfigured router. Try opening some pages, try watching YouTube videos... If your mobile is working OK, with no connection errors or timeouts, your problem was only the interference caused by networks around. But, if you still experience problems like timeouts or errors opening pages and YouTube videos, you need to continue to the next step.
Using router QoS and Static IP
If you have an very fast internet (10MBPS+) you will need to slow things down, as this cell phone does not really support fastest internet speeds, now you have to know your cell MAC address, make it use an Static IP, and configure QoS to reduce the downstream speed on the cell phone IP to 3MBPS max speed - BTW, not all routers supports this, if yours don't support it, get another router, I recommend Cisco or LinkSyS.
    Still having problems
The above steps solved my problem for a while, as the phone were working a little better with my Wi-Fi, yet I experienced some timeouts and errors opening pages. Now the next step will require a PC connected to your network and this will reduce to ZERO the timeouts and errors opening pages.
Keeping the Connection Alive - for bad routers
If you have a generic (not Cisco or LinkSyS) cheap bad router, you will need this step! I noticed that even when the cell phone were showing the Wireless icon, the LED indicating Wireless on my router was not always turned on, so I understood my router was like "ignoring" the cell phone connection and just stopped responding to its calls. To fix this bad router behaviour, you will need a PC connected to your network, and prepare yourself to laugh: All you need to do is "keep pinging" the cell phone IP as this will keep it connection alive. The simplest way is to create a .BAT file with these 3 lines inside:
    :autoping
    ping <cell phone IP>
    goto autoping
Now save it on your desktop, use anyname.bat as you wish - now run it and connect your cell phone to the WLAN. You will notice the difference, as it will work so stable like if it were connected using LAN cable!!! You will never have connection problems again!
Well, that is it, following this guide your cell phone will never have WLAN problems again (well, at least on your WLAN).
    Best regards,
    Paulo Bral™

  • Can't access WLAN

I think I've set up the AP OK. When I click "menu" though, There's no "web" option. It is a "3" phone (UK) and has the globe with "planet 3" under it.
Have 3 done something so that I can't select WLAN over GPRS/3G?

    hi Chefschwabe,
first of all: draft n isnt fully specified yet...
    now to solve your problem
    - check your router first: if you have enabled "draft n only" you wont get a connection
use "all modes" on router settings
    - check your device manager if an unknown device is listed - is it the wlan card?
make sure that the wlancard is recognised by device manager!
    - disable all encryption and make wlan router visible for the clients
    - ipconfig with no entries means that you have enabled ipv4 *and* ipv6 - *kill ipv6 protocol*
    - use default setting on your x500
    - check the router if your x500 shows up
i bet that your network configuration on your x500 is faulty...
because all other clients work with that wlan...
and at least or last attempt: take some money and ask a specialist for help
but i think you can solve this problem by yourself!

  • WLAN Devicename N97 mini

    Hello there,
I bought my phone about 3 months ago, and I am very pleased with it.
In my old N95 it was possible for me to change the devicename of the phone as it would appear on a network.
I was able to change it through the built in WLAN guide, and it was no biggie. But on my N97 mini I cannot find
anywhere to change that. The reason for wanting to change this is that I have a poolbar I often attend to, and
the Wlan network will not let me surf the internet unless there is a numeric code in front of the devicename.
I hope someone will be able to help me out here.
    Regards,
    Alex

Go to Settings - Connectivity - Destinations - Internet. Check if the WLAN you want connected to is on the list of access points. If it is, set it as Priority 1 - Options - Organize - Change priority - then click the topmost place of the list.
If the WLAN is not on the access points list, select Access Point to add.
Do this Prioritization routine everytime you change an access point, WLAN or GPRS/EDGE/3G.
You may also set Packet data connection setting to "When needed". Go to Connectivity - Admin. Settings - Packet Data.
I came here looking for answers, I ended up offering some...

  • Facebook and Email wont connect on C3

I recently bought a Nokia c3. I can connect to all the internet services ie opera browser, facebook, email, msn messenger via WLAN. When I want to connect through o2 Wap, I can only access the Opera browser. None of the other services like facebook or email will work.
I have received the mms and internet settings from o2. I am on Pay as you go, and have the text and web tarrif.
If anyone can tell me what settings to change or what to do, it would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hello everybody! This is my first post here - I'm Marcin, i'm 28yrs old, and i use Nokia C3-00 that my brothers gift me (domo arigato for U bros!).
Well i had many problems, i even send email to Nokia care, and get response that they send my email somewhere (thx Nokia for trying to help your new customer!).
Well firstly - my C3 was from some Polish telecom company (orange). It was version 3.36. As You said above, Nokia Mail didn;t work, Facebook on desktop didn;t want to log me in, Opera worked well - i was using WIFI (i got own router with WPA-PSK protected working on 802.11g mode). I try to download Palringo, and it also worked well - so only apps didn't worked were only Nokia apps.
I was reading some google results and i find out there is newer firmware for my Nokia, so i used Nokia Ovi Suite 2 that updated my Nokia firmware into 7.20 version. It looked like phone start to work little faster, had faster response time also. So i was happy, but Nokia Mail didn't work. Also new error appear - second "community" icon inside of the Menu. Well i was thinking what is wrong, and try to use GPRS... It didn't want to start, i also tryed sending MMS - also didn't work! I try "restore to factory setting - only configuration" - do not work. I try "restore to factory settings - all" - also didn't work! Sending SMSes with configuration from my gsm operator - also didn't work! (ofcourse i made restart after all of those changes, every time).
While waiting for answer for Nokia is not good option (waiting do not resolve problems - only working on them), so i was checking more and more about my new phone - i'm computer guy, and i started to threat phone problem like computer problem. I start to learn about how my phone is built - OS40 6th generation, i started to learn how firmware is working inside of it. I've learned about 3 segments of firmware in my phone (MCU, PPM and Content pack). And guess what? While Update of firmware was fine - it didn;t update all 3 parts!!! It means some of things are updated, and some are not - this is why there are 2 community icons inside Menu. I find out that my "Content Pack" was still old (03.36) version branded with "orange" telecom. It means some icons, backgrounds, text, configuration was never changed by update. And i was using different GSM operator than orange, so it could not work - because it always try to use configuration from orange. So i had to reflash "Content Pack" with version 7.20 (i used unbranded version), then, i made "restore to factory settings" - all, inside of phone (menu, configuration, restore). After restart voila! - no more seond community icon in Menu - and phone started to work much more faster! The phone taked configuration of GPRS/MMS and other things correctly from my SIM card, and started to send/receive MMS, and connect with E/GPRS.
What still didn't work was - Nokia Mail, and Facebook (well it can read data sometimes, but cannot for example read "messages" from facebook).
My investigation showed me that - Nokia Mail do not work because i was trying to use WiFi connection. When i start to use E/GPRS then it start to work correctly without any problems! In WiFi mode it didn;t start, it freezed while "checking for update" and after a while sayd that "there is connection problem".
What i think is that Nokia C3 just need more work on Nokia apps, and also make people update firmware more "free", by themselves, in more ways people need it.
Well nothing more to add, i hope it can help someone
Greeting for all and Happy New Year!
Don't say you want to help - just do it! Happy user of Nokias: 6150 SAT (still work), 6021 (used as backup, still work), 5220 XpressMusic (Drown, screaming for Contact Service), C3-00 (my current phone).

    Allow configuration???
    Auto-accept????
    Network aythentic???
what should i do and what should write in these parameter which is mention above
    thanks

There two ways to update/upgrade your phone firmware. By NSU, pc running pcsuite connected to your phone; and by FOTA or over the air if supported by your provider. Don't bother with that parameters, just request from your provider the setup/configuration for data e.g 3g, gprs, mms ect. or you can go to Nokia for it. Data access must be activated & running to avail for FOTA. Get the product code of your phone(written in the box) or, under the battery compartment, for it will ask for that if there is an upgrade available in your area.
Download the latest version of pcsuite for your phone, then install it to your pc/laptop and connect your phone via cable (recommended), when connection is established, select from the menu software update. You should have internet connection with that pc.
In over the air(FOTA), connection via 3g (recommended, faster) just look in the menu for software update, it will prompt you what to enter. Data services that I mentioned above should be activated, supported & tested running, else no go.

  • Problem with seeing messages received on msn messe...

    Hi,
I've had the nokia X6 for 3 months now (my future father in law sent it to me as a gift! ) and i absolutely love it, but i have a problem with msn messenger. After i start a conversation with someone, i'm not able to see messages received until AFTER i send a message again, so my messages end up being a delayed response. I don't get any sort of message alert (like i do on my laptop) to make me aware i've been sent a message.
It really annoyed me a few days ago because I was trying to talk to my fiance via msn on my phone, but my responses were slow as i had to send him a message first in order to read his one. He suggested i join this forum, so please can someone help me?!
I know it may sound silly trying to get it solved now, considering i've had it for 3 months, but i wasn't really using msn on my phone till recently. This is the first time i'm able to use the internet on my phone, so i'm extra excited, but this msn problem has been bugging me. Please, please, please can someone help me solve this?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

LOL yeah, i've got a cool future father in law No, it's not on WLAN or gprs, but yeah, i need to check msn settings and probably call nokia support as well.
Sorry for the late reply. I was subscribed to get an email when someone replies, but i didn't! It's good i decided to check today if there were any responses to my question!

  • Nokia Asha 303 - Update 14.87 - internet always on

I just updated my asha 303 to version 14.87 and now my phone duplicated its apps and is always connected to the internet. If i disconnect wlan, a gprs connection switches on. How can I turn all connections off and connect only when I need them?
And if it's not possible, how can I go back to the previous update?
I already did a factory reset, but it didn't work...
    My configurations are the following:
Settings/Connectivity/ Internet Connection -> Ask First
Settings/Connectivity/ Packet Data Connection --> When needed
    Thanks

Sounds like an app goes wild. Very difficult to track the one down which does this. Furthermore, because you have that duplicate app issue, I recommend: Nokia Suite » Menu » Tools » Software Update » there is a ‘reinstall’ below your phone, in that explanation. Did that help?

  • D211 & D-Link DI-624+

My "Nokia D211 WLAN/GSM/GPRS" PCMCIA card sees all sorts of Wi-fi networks in my neighbourhood but not my own. I am using a D-Link DI-624+ wireless router. My "Linksys Wireless-G" PCMCIA card works fine. Are there any known incompatibilities between the Nokia D211 and D-Link?
    Many thanks for your help
    Ralf

Are you using the latest software (available here: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222117 ) as I couldn't connect my D211 to Wi-Fi until I got this upgrade. Also are you using WEP encryption? as this makes the setup more difficult. :-)

  • Wish list / Bugs for E61 Firmware......

hi, just trying to see if this is a good way to feedback to nokia.....Feel free to endorse or add to the list....hehe
    Wish List
    1. A2DP
    2. Sip can use access point group
    3. Time of SMS to show sender sending time instead of receiving time.
    4. Can choose to search by 1st char of name in contacts
    Bugs
    1.

I just got my new E-61 yesterday. It still on ver 1 firmware. I bought it on ebay India, its product code is 0530151 (which I believe is a "Euro Silver"). Its a made in Finland piece having "english" and "nederlands" as the two languages. NSU shows updates available but I am scared to death to try that out (all those KB remapping issue scare me) and so I will wait till I am comfortable with the phone.
I notice a few bugs already
    1) I made a new profile but if I chose it instead of General, I lose out on having the date in Active Standby page. Considering that there are acres of unused space, its strange that Nokia will do it by design.
    2) The voice recorder button is very easy to press by mistake and there seem no way to stop these accidental recordings.
    3) If I chose Tools-Setting-Network-Cell Info Display as "ON", I am supposed to get my carrier supplied location text on the screen but it comes momentarily and then gets hidden due to the fact that bluetooth icon obscures it. Even if I keep bluetooth OFF, it still shows cell info part only momentarily. This looks like a bug to me.
    4) WLAN and GPRS connection don't close when I close the Nokia browser. Is this by design? In my earlier 6670 I was using Opera and there when I used to exit the connection will close automatically.
