X30 max hard drive size + system recovery for XP

Hi all!  My X30 is wacked out - virus.  My fault, no excuses.  Anyway I'm taking the opportunity to upgrade the hard drive and start fresh with this little beauty.
1) what is the largest HDD (in GB) I can install?  I just can't find a line anywhere in any of the spec sheets that says "Max HDD size: "
2) is there a certain type I need?  i.e. will any 2.5" form factor drive fit?  Even better, will THIS drive work if I plonk her in and use the recovery disk?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152111
3) Am I correct in thinking that if I put in a new HDD and set the BIOS to boot from the CD (in the UltraBay) then put the Recovery CD disk 1 in the drive, it will run me through a fresh factory shipped install with XP??  I will use the Recovery disk for X30 2672 and 2673 series with XP Pro, or part number 01R6196.  If that's the case I'm doing it, that's all there is to it!
4) Incidentally, am I correct in thinking that I can only have 512MB in this beauty, and the RAM for it costs a fortune?
Thanks, all!
moskov

Hi,
Sorry, based on the following specs, I would not upgrade the HDD. If you need more space for data/files, buy an external HDD.

  • Macbook pro late 2008 max hard drive size

I have a MacBook Pro Late 2008.  I think the max RAM is 8GB but what is the max hard drive size.  It is running Yosemite.  It currently has a 1TB drive.

I solved the heat-issue in Windows Vist32 (tested and worked!)
This should also work in XP, XP64 and VISTA 64 although not tested.
Goto the Nvidia website and download the latest notebook drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html).
Uninstall your old notebook drivers through device-manager and restart.
Now install the Nvidia notebook drivers you just downloaded and restart.
    *NOW THE IMPORTANT PART!!!*
After numerous hours of testing i found out that installing new Nvdia display drivers overwrite some Nvidia chipset drivers. This causes your fans not spinning at all under heavy GPU load.
*THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE TEMPERATURES CAN EASILY PASS 100 degrees celsius.*
Now for the fix in four easy steps!
    1. Under Windows insert your MacOS original install-disc (the one with the bootcamp drivers)
    2. Choose to explore the Bootcamp folder.
    3. Now open the drivers folder and browse to the Nvidia folder.
    4. Now install the package called nvidiachipset. These come in all flavors (XP, XP64, VISTA, VISTA64) choose the correct version for your OS.
After installation a reboot is not even necessary. Start your favorite game and notice the extreme humming of your speeding fans! Should sound like music!
*So remember. Every time you update your graphics drivers A REINSTALL OF THE CHIPSET DRIVERS FOR YOUR UNIBODY MBP MUST BE DONE!! If you don't the fans won't come up under heavy load which will result in a BUSTED GPU!!!*

  • Max hard drive size in G5

    Hello,
Like the G4's before it(not including MDD), do the G5 Quads have a limit on hard drive size? I was wondering what the max size for a hard drive is for the G5 Quad, or can one go up to 4 terabytes?

Remember, I was mostly on a G4 MDD and have some experience with a G5. Now that I have a G5 Quad, I am learning stuff each day.
    Research, Read, and Educate yourself.
If anything, I would have hoped that that was understood from my posts.
Remember, I only have a Sawtooth, but I know about all PPC Macs........

Someone with your post count should at least be aware of "Search Discussions" features.
They should also be aware of the forum rules and etiquette.
But, this next question you can help me with. I am looking for a replacement graphics card which will provide more performance than the stock PCIe Nvidia 6600. Can you provide help for me with that?

  • Max Hard Drive Size....?

recently picked up an emac, after holding out for a 1.42ghz model
anyway, already added a DVD burner and about to add some RAM (currently has 768mb)
the current hard drive is only 80gb - plus its having some issues... after some slow down in using anything on the mac i poked around and found the disk utility is reporting the S.M.A.R.T status as bad...
so i was wanting to replace it due to wanting more storage space, and this has just made me need to do it sooner rather than later.
    my main question:
is there a maximum hard drive size the emac will take?
if the mac will take a 750gb drive, and if i can find an IDE drive that big anywhere i would, just i know they are kind of hard to come by... failing that a 500gb IDE drive is easy come by...
    will they work?
    cheers

is there a maximum hard drive size the emac will take?
    No.
    will (those considerations) work?
Yes, any IDE/ATA will work in the eMac.
    https://eshop.macsales.com/search/3.5InternalIDE/ATA\
Do not get a SATA (Serial ATA) drive as they are not suitable for your eMac.

  • What is the max hard drive size in an early 2008 MacBook?

I've got an early 2008 black macbook.  I want to upgrade from a 250gb hard drive to either a 750gb 7200rpm drive or a 1tb 5200rpm drive.  Will either of these work in there?  I don't know if there is a maximum hard drive size/rpm that I can put in there.  Thank you for your help!

I know these posts were a while ago, but I wanted to check in on your 2008 Macbook. I have the same model and want to do the hard drive update. Is your machine still up and running, or have you moved on?
    Thank you!

  • Max Hard Drive size for Ultra 10s

    Hi,
I'm kinda new to sun and I have a ultra 10s with a 9 Gig factory installed HD.
I was wondering what the maximum sized IDE hard drive that can be installed. I would like to mirror the system as well. I've seen another post about this but the max size was a 27 Gig drive and didn't explain how to mirror. I have Solaris 8 1/01 meda kit does that include the required software to mirror the drives. I think it's called Raid Manager?
    Many thanks

I'm not sure what the max drive size supported on an Ultra-10, but most
new Sun products are shipping with 40 GByte EIDE drives and use the
same chipset. Caveat emptor: Solaris <7 may or may not support EIDE
larger than 8GBytes, but since you are on Solaris 8 you should be ok.
For SCSI drives (requires a PCI SCSI HBA for the Ultra-10) the size can
be quite large. The most common large size SCSI drives today is 180
GBytes, but SCSI is designed to scale much larger.
You don't want RAIDManager for mirroring. Look for Solstice DiskSuite (SDS)
in your media distribution. If I'm not mistaken, it is cleverly hidden in
the "EA" directory on CD 2of2 in the media kit. Also, look for docs on
mirroring root using SDS on http://docs.sun.com

  • Max Hard Drive Size for Airport Extreme 4th Generation (A1354)?

    I've got a 4th gen Airport Extreme (A1354) (MC340LL/A).
Currently I'm using a 2TB Western Digital USB2 hard drive connected externally.
I'd like to add a larger capacity hard drive so that I can back up more computers. What's the maximum HD size and configuration I can add to this Airport?
    Thanks!
    Seth

For now, the nearest available information may not be fully suggestive of
the possible largest or unofficially supported external HDD it may use...
Since a similar-spec Time Capsule has the option for either a 2TB or 3TB
internal HDD as part of that configuration, the safe bet suggests 3TB.
There may be an issue with larger drives and multiple computers using
one large drive, since I'd seen some mention of a few user problems when
two or more Macs were sharing Time Machine storage on one larger HDD.
And someone may know of the information about a software utility that may
be able to help keep track of the files or organize them, in such a situation.
In passing, some weeks ago, I'd read about such a utility to help alleviate an
issue that may result from two or more Macs with Time Machine files on the
same backup hard disk drive. But did not keep the link nor retain those details.
If you did get a larger external hard disk drive of sufficient spin rate RPM
and cache size, then it may be a simple matter to format it with partitions
so extra space may be in reserve or any capacity unable to work with
the total configuration could be used for general storage, apart from TM.
Hopefully there is a good drive available for that application.
I'd inquire of OWC as they have some examples of hardware.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Max Hard drive size for Powerbook 1.5

I need to increase the internal hard drive on my '15 Powerbook 1.5Ghz. What is the max size that the Powerbook can handle? I would like to get one that's at least 160g.

The maximum drive size that your PB can handle is far larger than any currently available drive. The largest drive available (or likely to become available) is this 320GB Western Digital drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136345
It's also available from other vendors, of course; to find other vendors selling it, just Google its Western Digital model number.

  • Replacing hard drive and system recovery

I have a HDX 16 1155CA laptop running Windows 7 ultimate (upgraded from the pre-installed Vista). I recently dicovered a bad sector or several bad sectors on my hard drive using many diagnistics tools. SMART info indicates 3 pending sectors. Also, the hard drive failed the self test under BIOS self diagnostics. As my computer may be facing imminent hard drive failure, I'd like to replace the hard drive. Are there any HHDs with larger storage space and higer RPM compatable with this laptop? Also, i can't create a second set of recovery disks containg my current system and settings, how would I be able to recover my system/data and how should I back up all my current files?
    Thanks.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
You can use the Windows 7 backup and recovery system to make a ghost image of your current hard drive contents onto a portable hard drive.  You will also have to make a boot CD which it will give you the option of doing, to access the recovery files, and reinstall your current configuration.
However, if I were you, I would back up any files, music and photos separately that I didn't want to lose, just in case the reinstallation fails.
While HP doesn't show any upgrades for your hard drive, I would imagine you would be safe installing up to a 640 GB 7200 RPM SATA drive. It is a modern enough PC.
You may also want to be on the safe side, and order a set of recovery disks for your notebook. They will be for Vista, but you can then go ahead and install W7 again.  A set of recovery disks normally costs around $16.00.
Here is the link to your notebook's support page.  Under the "Alerts for this Product" section, you can click on the blue link that states "How to Order Recovery Disks"

  • Hard drive and system recovery question - "No boot device"

I replaced a 320Gb - 5400 rpm drive that failed with a 750Gb - 7200 rpm drive.  Using the HP System Recovery disks to reload the OS, once it goes through the restoration process the mb doesn't seem to recognize the hard drive and I get the "No Boot device" message upon rebbot. Unfortunately, the BIOS is not the best and it won't allow me to see if it actually recognizes the new hdd, which I suspect it doesn't  - even though the Recovery Manager seems to . Either that or I have a bad MB.
    Sytem information - HP G71-340US
    Processor - 2.20 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor T6600
    BIOS - InsydeH20 3.5
So even though Recovery manager *appears* to be installing W7 just fine, but it's a no go when it's time to actually boot to it, what is the problem?  Is this a mb issue or did I just buy the wrong hd?

Well, a few reboots later and it seems the issue is no longer the mb or the hd.  W7 is having a tough time though, and am now working on the second system restore, this time from the recovery partition, to try and get it to load fully.  When I reinstalled from the System Recovery DVD the second time through, I skipped installing the third (driver) disk and that appeared to help.  Just wish I could get the OS to comply. Maybe the third time will be a charm?

Need help,  HP mini 110 Windows 7 32 bit.  using my recovery disks I created i was able to recover to the old 160 gb hard drive.  After I installed new 320 Gig drive and used my recovery disks i now get boot disk error. Looks like system was installed on new drive. but will not boot to complete set up.

If you use the recovery disk, your machine will restore to its default factory state. Try to reinstall the 320 GB you have if you want it to get back.
