Is there a simple way of finding what pre-loaded software can be deleted to increase hard disc capacity?

You can use the ThinkVantage tool called Base Software Administrator. This can be downloaded from the Admin tools page:

The BSA allows you to de-select which items on the list of pre-loaded apps that you want to remove, then it does a re-installation of the factory image minus the things you chose to take off.
Make sure to read the help files in BSA first before attempting to run it. I would also run a complete backup with Rescue & Recovery first and save the backup to external media so that if I made a mistake with BSA, I could always restore my system from the saved backup.

How do you uninstall pre-loaded software?

I am looking to free up some space on my hard drive, and I would like to get rid of the some of the unnecessary preloaded applications. I know that this can be done on windows but can it be done on macs, and if so how?

I agree with Eric in that if you haven't had your MacBook very long and can backup you data well it's probably best to reinstall using a "Custom Install" and pick and choose what you want on there.
AppZapper is.....mmm okay. I got it when MacZot had a deal and got it for 65 cents or I wouldn't have gotten it (Spotlight is just as good). Problem with most if not all of the pre-loaded application are they're package installed. AppZapper IMHO has limited success uninstalling them.
I used to use DesInstaller to rid myself of .pkg installs. I'm not sure if there's a Universal of it or not. I now use OSXPM which manages .pkg files (creates them too!) and while it's a beta it works well and it's free (so far).

Pre-loaded software

Does the MacBook come with Apple Works or some other type of word processing software other than the trial version of Microsoft Office?

For word processing macbook comes with text edit that similar to note pad on windows side.
Apple work is a history and apple stop developing them and concentrate with iWork.
You can still buy apple work at auction sites, but I prefer you go with iWork that is universal.
There is also some free option for word processing for mac like neo office, etc.

Nokia 5300 - Remove pre loaded music ?

Help!!! , Can't get rid of these preloaded tones. I can find the files on the phone and PC, but they are 'read only'. Does anybody know a step by step method of removing these. I have seen some other posts about this, but must be a step missing, as I still cant remove them. Thanks

Changing Pre Loaded Service Provided Software

Have changed from Virgin to "3". Does anyone have any experience in loading "3" X series software into an unlocked N73 that has Virgin Preloaded settings and software. Or just changing pre loaded software?
The Service centre says that the phone may stop working and the warranty will be invalid. Not woried re the warrany but I don't want to do it if it will stop the phone from working.

When loading Elements 10 why did it remove my Nic Software add-ons in Lightroom 3?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Nic programmes but no success. And it is all now so slow that i am thinking of reinstalling everything. With Windows 7, 8 gb of memory and and i5 Intel processor, my computer should be able to handle this. Elements 7 was already there and working well, so I must have done something wrong. Any suggestions?

Hi, After installing NIK plug-ins, Please check on C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\External Editor Presets folder.Here you can see some Nik- plugins templates , open any template in Notepad and see "ExternalEditorFullPath" verify this path is right and whether .exe file is present at this location or not.Also verify the status of this path and .exe location after using the PSE.I am confident, this is the issue of file path mismatch. Should I wait to purchase a Maverick pre-loaded iMac 21.5, or buy now and do a software update?

Just upgraded my operating system to Maverick on my 15" MacBook Pro, but noticed some if my existing iLife that I had from a CD yrs ago still
retain older icons etc.
Now I would like to purchase an iMac, but noticed as of yesterday (Nov 2, 2013) all stores including Apple, have not got in the new computers in that are pre-loaded with Maverick.
It is better at this time, to just wait a week or two and buy an iMac preloaded?

BootCamp alters to boot sector, which *usually* goes just fine but you must use BootCamp assistant to install or remove the partition. Some people do not like to BootCamp because of the risks, even if small, without the need for a full-Windows compatibility. You need require a new Windows license (like BootCamp you cannot reuse the old Windows set because it does not have all drivers).
Parallels does not have the risks of BootCamp, but does require a new Windows license (like BootCamp you cannot reuse the old Windows set because it does not have all drivers).
MicrosoftOffice for Mac gets you MS Office with none of the Windows-license requirement.
If all you need is Office, buy Office for Mac from MS, my humble opinion.

Removal of Pre-Loaded Songs on 5310 Xpress Music

All,
Could anyone help me in removing the pre-loaded music files that come with the Nokia 5310 Xpress Music phone (and no doubt countless other handsets too).
I don't particuly like them and I can't seem to exclude them from playing when the music player just going through my tunes (that is when it's actually playing and not giving me the white screen of death).

I found that I could delete the music that came with phone, if I deleted it in the album folder instead of the actual song, so just scroll through your album titles until you come to one you don't recognise, and you will be able to delete it easily on your phone.

2 versions of windows 7 HP 32 bit running on same PC (1 pre sp1,1sp1). How to remove pre sp1?

After much trial and error of internet information I was finally able to load Windows 7, 32 bit, SP1. To my surprise upon reboot there is the option to boot to pre-sp1 or sp1. How can I remove Pre-SP1 or at least delete the option so it always boots SP1?

According to your description, seems you have a dual-boot system, systems installed in different partitions. Are both system able to start successfully? If the Pre-SP1 is the first system installed in your PC, then the boot information for both
systems will be stored in Pre-SP1, simply remove Pre-SP1 will cause another system unbootable.
If Pre-SP1 is not the primary boot system, then you can remove the system by formating the partition where it stored in, then delete the item from the boot menu, I'd like to share a guide with you as convenience:

I have an HP Photosmart e-station C510a, with pre loaded apps of Yahoo, Snapfish & U-Tube, installed on the Zeen tablet and I’m unable to login to any of the above accounts and keep getting the same error messages, (Login failed- your account is locked) Please sign into yahoo via a Web browser to unlock your account) this statement is untrue as from a PC my Yahoo account is not locked, otherwise I get an error code 30 for the other applications such as snap fish and utube jus simply or can't play videos, this is not a network problem as I’I've had an HP Tech guy fault find the printer, the printer was returned to Amazon and a replacement was dispatched and received yesterday (5/11/2011) and still the same problems accrues so it looks like I’m about to return the second e-station c501a as not fit for purpose, is there a fault with the Zeen table that (HP) are aware off? or how do you rectify these login issues

If you go to the games folder or app folder you can do so there,if the games cant be removed they are part of the software and cant be deleted.

I want to reload original software in IMAC G4 - i have original disks, can i install OSX first and then load "software restore 1 to 6" and not load OS9

I just purchased a used IMAC G4, cpu G4(1.1), powermac 4,2, 800MHz 15 inch FP and 55 Gig hard drive. I now have 750 k memory and it is working fine. i want to reload the original software. i have all original disks -CDs. These include OSX Install; OS9 Install; Software Restore 1 to 6 CDs; Imac applications.
Question, please, is which CD do i load first? Also i hope it is not necessary to load OS9. I would think OSX install first and then the software restore disks and then the imac applications?

Boot from the disc labeled Disc One. Follow instructions and when you get to the part to select a Destination/Target drive click once on the drive then click on the Options button. Select the option for Erase and Install then click on the OK button and proceed.
You do not have to install OS 9. If you don't then you simply cannot use the OS X Classic emulator.
I believe there is a separate installer on Disc One for restoring pre-bundled software.

Dual boot Win7 pre-loaded and XP

I have a T510 that came pre-loaded with Win7 Professional. I'd like to dual boot with XP that I have loaded on a different hard drive on the same T510.
I do have the recovery disks. I can't do a fresh install of XP because it have over 300 programs installed. Is there some way to run the recovery disks with Win7 Pro to not format the XP partition. Can I make the XP partition read only and then run the recovery disks?
Maybe someone knows of a way to install the recovery disks, then ( I know how to move Win7 and make a partition before Win7 then restore XP to the hard drive) then repair Win7 so it has the correct drive letters.

I'd probably do something like this, since I can't resist messing with a multiboot machine: clone the XP install to a large HD - or use the one you have if it 's big enough. I'm told you can use the Win 7 activation code that came w/your machine, but you may have to call MS.
Install TVSU for Win 7 and let it pull down the rest. Come to think of it, that's what I did with my XP T61.

Pre-loading images loaded from XML.

Hello,
I hoping for some guidance please.
I have a Gallery that loads thumbnails from an XML.
I have added a pre-loader to each one of the thumbnails as it is being loaded from the XML.
My problem is that I can't figure out how to remove the pre-loaders after it has called the Event.COMPLETE.
With my curent code,
As it completes loading the thumbnails, it throws an error and only removes the very last pre-loader.
