X300 , Win7, Alps (7.2.1616.107) trackpoint driver reset on reboot

Sinse installing Win7 (Build 7100) I have an issue with the mouse driver resetting every time the machine goes to "sleep" or reboots.
The "sliders" for mouse speed and touch sensitivity do not reflect the "reset" but remain in "my settings" (I prefer to have them both on maximum) - despite that the actually used settings are the "default" settings.
Is there anyone out there who has an idea on how to solve this problem?
 Thank you in advance!

I have now updated to the "real" version of win7.
Current Mouse driver:
Alps
30/11/2009
Driver Version: 7.202.1616.206
And still my trackpoint settings are "reset" everytime the computer goes into sleep mode or reboots.
The "GUI" does not reflect the reset.

This question has been asked and answered several times in the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.
You should read the Boot Camp Installation Guide. The new Boot Camp drivers are a download. They are not included on a disk.

  • Win7 install does not see new hard drive (640gb Samusung) on MacBook Pro

Replaced MBP 5,4 (mid 2009) hdd with a Samsung HM641JI 640gb drive. OS X installation went fine using SL install disk, updated software to 10.6.4. Problem is with Windows 7 installation using Boot Camp. Partition is created (tried 32 to 300 gb). Windows 7 install disk loads but after "Install now" and accepting license agreement, it does not recognize the drive or any partitions. XP install works fine. Had same Win7 problem with 2 identical hdds and 3 different install disks which were full version, not upgrades. Installed Win7 using boot camp on 320 gb Samsung drive (also 3.0gb/s SATA) without a problem. Tried formatting the bootcamp partition on the 640 gb drive to NTFS, but still not recognized. Any suggestions?

Odd you can't see anything. I'd use Windows 7 recovery tools to do a full initialize and map out bad blocks if necessary. Or initialize from OS X drive and then do full slow format etc from Windows DVD.
Every drive vendor has their own linux/dos/windows utility to recertify and test sectors and does a better job than anyone else's. WD Lifeguard for all my WD drives, can be very handy.

  • Trackpoint driver works differently than the older one

I made the jump recently from Vista 32 to 64 and after  installing drivers i noticed that i can no longer tap the trackpoint instead of left click - have you guys noticed that ?

Win7 Pro is now installed on my nc6320 but the Fingerprinter reader software does not work. I have seen similar requests but they do not work for the nc6320.  Thanks.

    Hi:
Below is the fingerprint driver you need:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
Additionally, if you want to use the fingerprint logon feature you need to download and install the Protect Tools security manager
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
If you are missing any other drivers, just use the Vista drivers.
You card reader won't work unless you install this driver which is not listed on your notebooks support and driver page.

  • SQLDev on 64 bit Win7, Connection to Access DB without Default driver

I need to look after my club's database, created in Access97. Thought I'd use SQLDeveloper on the club's laptop, a Win 7 64 bit version. I've installed the 64 bit version of SQL Dev, it works fine.
When I create a new connection and browse to the .mdb file in the Access tab, I get 'Data source name not found and no default driver specified'. I have defined an ODBC data source in the 32-bit 'Data Sources' manager using the 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe' utility.
I can't find instructions how to get SQLDev to connect to such a data source using the DSN - it seems impossible given there is no JDBC-ODBC bridge?
I can't find a way to install a default driver on Win 7; any advice?
    Much obliged,
    Irene

    Irene,
this kind of error might be related to the ODBC driver you've installed.
When you use the 64bit SQL Developer release you'll need the 64bit ODBC drivers. You've mentioned you've used the odbcadm32 from syswow64 => this would be the 32bit ODBC admin.
The 64bit ODBC admin is located in %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
    * The 32-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
    * The 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
Could you please open it and define a 64bit MS Access DSN?
If you don't find a 64bit ODBC driver for MS Access, you can download it from:

    Hello.
It's impossible for me to find a good working graphics driver ?!!
Actuelly I have installed the 195.81 from laptopvideo2go, but there are some problems, like yellow lines at the screen when looking pictures, or problems with 3D-programs like sketchup ......
    Has anybody the same problem?
    with kind regards

    Hello
Im not wondering about these lines on your notebook screen because you are using display driver from latptopvideo2go I also dont have good experience with these drivers like overheating. So at the moment Im only using Toshiba display driver
Have you tried this driver? The Toshiba website shows for Vista 64bit a driver that should work on Windows 7 too.
    Check this!!!

  • X300 XP build - trackpoint locks up

I rebuilt the X300 with XP SP2, it was easy with good documentation from Lenovo and the system update tool.
I have 2 bugs hoping someone may have some information on:
If I connect a USB WWAN card the trackpoint stops responding, if I connect an external mouse its fine but the trackpoint wont work again until I reboot. Anyone come across this?
Other bug is the integrated camera, it gives a " Max Headroom" take on video :-) picture is really jerky. I tried Netmeeting and Office Communicator 2005 and both behaved similarly
    appreciate any help..

    Hello Mcardgl,
I think the USB WWAN card may be related to the AT&T software overwriting the trackpoint driver (assuming you are using AT&T WWAN). I believe this is fixed with the latest version of the comm manager software:
    http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/solutions/wireless-laptop/software.jsp#download
I have not run into the other issue around Office Communicator personally, however I have heard the 2007 version fixes this.

  • To Lenovo: Still unfixed common and reproducable X300 problems

Lenovo, following problems with the X300 are still unsolved, ordered by most annoying first. PLEASE FIX THESE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! The X300 (most apply o X3001 as well) is/was an EXTREMELY expensive Notebook. These problems ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE for a Notebook of that price!!!
All these problems mentioned below apply to Windows Vista Business x86-32, I don' t know about other OS because thats what I use and got from Lenovo.
    1. The X300 and X301 do FREEZE at random times (1-2 times per week). When that happens, the screen is totally frozen and shows the last state - Neither mouse is movable nor any keys work. You also can't reach the machine via network anymore. No BlueScreen, Log entries or anything. Only a real hard-reset by powering off the machine via pressing the power button for more than 4 seconds can help you to get out of this. Of course you loose your data.
    No fix available.
    No workaround available.
    2. Battery drains a LOT faster if ANY USB device is enabled. This can be a simple external mouse, the internal Bluetooth or the WWAN card since they all use USB. Power usage increases about 3-4 Watts which is FAR too much for a simple mouse. Also the Notebook becomes more hot when USB is being used. You loose around 1 1/2 hours of precious battery lifetime just because of this. You can check Wattage using Lenovo Energy Manager (look under battery tab).
    No fix available.
Workaround. Don' t use USB/Bluetooth/WWAN when on battery. Not acceptable!
    3. Tapping using the TOUCHPAD (Trackpoint and buttons work) does not always work as expected. Sometimes you have to tap twice to produce a single click because a single tap is not always recognized as such. This also depends on the used application.
    No fix available.
Workaround: Use the buttons. Not acceptable!
    4. "Scroll by x lines" using mousewheel (Setting in control panel -> mouse -> wheel) always gets reset to "1" when scroling using the touchpad. This is quite annoying considering the fact that people use both, Touchpad when only mobile or a mouse when possible. This slows down scrolling via the mouse EXTREMELY.
Easy to reproduce: Set it to 3 (Windows default and a good value IMHO) and apply. Then scroll in any application using the touchpad. Go back to the setting (re-open control panel -> mouse) and it will show that it has been reset to 1. Note: Changing this setting only applies to applications that have been started AFTER changing the setting.
    Fix available: Install Ultranav2 driver
    Version 7.2.1616.107
(New) Added support for scrolling function on WPF window.
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the setting of "The following number of lines at a time" in the Wheel tab of Mouse Properties reverted back to 1 when using Excel (And luckily not only for that!)
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the UltraNav tab of Mouse Properties was missing under the remote desktop environment.
(Fix) Fixed an issue where Constrained and Slow motion features did not work with the Shift and Ctrl keys.
    5. Fan is not fairly adjusted. Its okay for a notebook to make use of its fan. But the way the X300 does this is NOT ACCEPTABLE! When the fan kicks in, it immediately accelerates to around 5000rpm which makes a very loud "jet" noise. There are more rpm speedlevels needed. Its okay if the fan is running more constantly but at a lower and quieter level.
    No fix available.
Workaround: Configure fan behaviour using TPFanControl to kick in at 60°C at lowest level (2000rpm which is level 2) and accelerate to 5000rpm at 70°C which is level 6. Of course this causes the X300 becoming more hot than with default behaviour, but it is really quiet. Silence is a MUST for business users!
    6. Fingerprint sensor sometimes does not work right away after resuming from standby oder hibernate.
No fix available. At least none that really solves the problem for good.
Workaround: Wait about 30 seconds and retry. If fingerprint sensor still not working, you're doomed to use manual login using password. Not acceptable!
This has been reported and helps but problem still rarely occurs: Apply this Patch. You may also try UPEKs more recent generic driver from here (Install via device manager for the fingerprint device).
    7. Sometimes the Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA Module does not reconnect properly after resuming from standby or hibernate. Also activating "USB selective suspend" (active by default) in power manager causes packet loss and connection stallings. Also the drivers Lenovo has to offer are extremely outdated.
    No fix available.
Workaround: Update the cards Firmware (current is v2.0.8.19). Look around at forums of www.thinkpads.com to find the update since Lenovo seems incapable of offering firmware for their card. This makes the card far less buggy and also doubles possible speed to 7.2MBit/s if your carrier allows that.
    8. Windows Boot hangs when Power Scheme in BIOS is set to Adaptive every now and then. Sometimes it boots right away, sometimes it just hangs on Vistas Bootloading-bar (it shimmers softly through, not fully visible and does not move).
No fix available yet. At least not officially from Lenovo.
Workaround: Set Power Scheme in BIOS to "Max Performance". This is a BIOS problem.
    9. This problem applies to all ThinkPad models: Access Connections is BROKEN. After using it for a while, a few standbys and resumes, reboots etc., it stops roaming on its own. You then always have to select and apply the profiles manually. I know this problem was supposed to be fixed by several updates in the past, but none of them ever actually fixed it. Please consider a complete rewrite of the roaming code, it just does not work.
This has been fixed in Access Connections v5.21, at least for me on Vista x86-32. But this version still has the old bug of crashing when trying to create a new profile and you have Firefox installed and your prefs.js file seems to big for Access Connections. Rename the file, create your profile and rename it back.
I will keep this thread updated when updates or fixes that actually work are available.

    VPN-User,
Ok - I see the list of issues and will ensure our X300 specialist takes a look at it.
Please do understand that while you have put together a very coherent list, I try to ensure priority to threads in which multiple customers are focused on a single issue, as we deliver the most benefit to the community in working on those.   This forum is primarly a peer to peer discussion forum rather than a Lenovo chat / tech support where we try to solve each and every issue put forth.
Individuals with a long list of issues on a particular machine may find benefit from either contacting technical support and working through their list, or publishing it as you have done and wait for other users of the same system to share their experiences.
    Thanks for your patience

  • [X300] Mouse Wheel Scroll Lines Setting does not stick

I often use an external mouse (no additional driver needed). After every reboot, the setting "Mouse Wheel Scroll Lines" in Control-Panel -> Mouse -> Wheel is reset to 1 (I am using Vista). This is really annoying because it slows down scrolling extremely.
Does anyone have the same problem?
I think its caused somehow by the ALPS touchpad driver (The X300 has a really bad one, the Synaptics pads built in previous Thinkpads were WAY BETTER).

    wfaz wrote:
    VPN User ...
Have you made any progress?  I am having no luck getting the X300 touchpad to scroll with MANY applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, Access to mention some.  I use Windows XP - another user has complained that with Vista he does not getting scrolling to work with iTunes, Live Search.  Plus, wheel events are not handled by the Remote Desktop, so anytime you are tunneling, you don't get touchpad scrolling.  I have been expecting a new UltraNav driver for months - but nothing yet.  I think I have tried every combination of touchpad and trackpoint settings possible, but maybe you know something I don't.
    WFaz
I am sorry but the problem you describe is a completely different one. Personally, I don' t care for these few applications, especially iTunes and further rubbish. Fact is, the quality Ultranav2 Driver is much much worse compared to the Ultranav1 which uses a Synaptic touchpad. Responsiveness, accuracy, supported applications, bugs are much worse with the Ultranav2 used in X300.
AFAIK adding applications to support the touchpad needs just adding them to some list in registry or what. But as I said, I never cared for that. The problem that the driver resets mouse settings when using it, I find much more disturbing.

  • Windows 7 X300 SSD drive recognition

I just upgraded my X300 OS to Windows 7 ultimate (fresh installation), however, I can not verify that Win7 has recognized the Samsung mccoe64g8mpp-0va drive as SSD (as it should). The system temp is higher than it should be and system defrag is not disabled by default. I have already installed all the drivers and patches that is available in the Lenovo site. Is there a way to verify that Win 7 see the drive as SSD and if not, is there a way to make it see the drive correctly? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

If I may, I have a slight different situation in that I have two HDD installed rather than a single HDD and a SSD. I cannot seem to install Vista on a dedicated 500GB HDD (replacing the Superdrive, it's now external) using Boot Camp. I create the partition (the whole drive) and it wants to reboot for installation. When I do this, I only get to the white Apple logo screen where it also flashes a file gif with a ? in the middle of it; back and forth without accomplishing anything. I even removed the OSX drive so that only the 2nd drive was visible, but upon option boot, the drive isnt' recognized. What am I missing?

  • Fixing Trackpoint Scroll for ITunes, Picasa, Safari, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Writer

The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.
Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations.
The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."
In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).

Thanks for the tip by Matthew Kohut of Lenovo for mentioning that this technique had previously been done for other programs such as OpenOffice.
