Hi Everyone:
Some of you know if this accesory works for a 1,8" 3,3V SSD hard drive.  I have a X301 with a 64Gb solid state disk.
This disk:

I don't know if my HP laptop can  support a solid-state drive (SSD) (also known as a solid-state disk or not.

    Thanks a lot,
I really checked out the prices of SSD at amazon.com
However, I found that the prices were relatively expensive.

    $88.49
    250 GB
    $132.00
    500 GB
    $231.99

Do you think it is worth purchasing SSD? Did you find any noticeable benefits since 439.95 dollars would let me purchase another laptop

  • Database performance on Solid state disks

    Folks,
anyone has experience on running database on solid state disks ? what is the performance improvement ?

Dumb question-- is your database I/O bound? Or is it CPU bound? Or does it spend a lot of time reading data that has been cached in memory?
Many systems will bottleneck on things other than physically reading and writing data to disk, in which case improving disk performance won't help much. Some systems that are bottlenecked on disk performance will actually be slower on this sort of architecture because the faster physical reads swamp some other resource (i.e. the CPU) creating an even bigger bottleneck. Some systems that are bottlenecked on disk performance will be faster with faster disks. That's not something we can predict from a forum post.
As of yet, I haven't worked with a system that would derive sufficient benefit from solid state disks to justify their cost. I'm sure there are systems out there, though, that would.

3.- I run all type of diagnostics and all  pass OK.
    4. I restore windows, aplications etc.  and all work fine, but in any random time, the hard disk lost all info and another time apear 0 Partition and 0 bytes used.
    5. I try to install, bios, firmware or any update of the lenovo web, and no resolve my problem.

  • Solid state disk

    Hi All,
I recently have started using a solid-state drive (SSD) in my laptop, and it really flies (Intel X-25).
However, I am quite perturbed about the performance of Diadem 11.1 in loading files off this disk. Loading medium sized TDMS files (300 MB with 20 MB index files) seems to stall, ie the progress bar does not really move for long periods of time.
There is no problem with the disk, random reads and writes are exceptional on this SSD, and have not noticed this slowdown with any other applications. Any idea what is going on here?
Also, to muddy the situation, I am using this on Windows 7. Reading from a USB hard-drive seems to work as normal, so I figure its not the OS.
Any one else notice these kinds of problems?

    Brad,
I tried using the load menu, it seems to make a bit of difference in that the loading progress bar goes a bit quicker, but it still seems to take its merry time, around 5 to 10 minutes. The hard drive light on my laptop does not even come on for tens of
seconds at a time when it is loading the original file, then there is a
burst of activity, then nothing again for like 30 seconds etc. Diadem CPU utilisation is very low during all this time and there is nothing else being done on the CPU.
The data is mostly DBLs, about 10 to 15 channels.
Slightly more weird, if I save the dataset once it has loaded (to compact the index file), then the subsequent loads are amazingly quick. I know you are probably thinking its just cached in memory (I have seen this before with a traditional hard disk), but the file loads in about 5 seconds from a cold-boot!
SSDs have very very good random read speeds, so even if the file was highly fragmented it should still be quite quick.
I have a pretty quick laptop (dual core mobile processer) with 4 GB of RAM. I have no problem loading four of these data sets into memory (reloading them after they have been saved), the load goes very quickly and when its done Diadem is happily using 2.5 GB of the RAM and there is no paging to the swap file.
I will never get permission to post the file unfortunately...
    Any other ideas?
ps: you are right, 300 MB is more of a baby TDMS file...  about 1 GB is medium sized ;-)

  • Anyone try a Solid-State Disk as PS Scratch Disk?

Has anyone tried using one of the new solid state drives such as the Intel X-18M as a Photoshop scratch disk? These have very low latency and ought to boost performance quite a lot. But I'd rather not spend the money without hearing if anyone's made the jump and likes the results.

I'm waiting for price to come down....the OCZ's are to avoided for now as they have issues with the sata controller bottlenecking the data causing stuttering/freezes.
But, this year should be good for SSD's as we are seeing 240mb/s and 200mb/s read/write speed drives starting to emerge....and the price is starting to fall......a bit...finally.
Best bet is to hold off until the SLC drives are affordable. MLC drives are OK, from what I can tell, but they will be slower.

  • Solid state "disk" problem (additional to benchmark PPBM5 problem)

Just to give the discussion the right name from this point on. The benchmark PPBM5 test, as discussed in an earlier discussion, has led (thanks to Bill Gehrke) to the conclusion that the disk setup is very poor, and possibliy causes the problems in my system.
Asking the company who build the system they answerd that the OS and programma's are located a solid state (principally a faster system than a normal drive)  C.
The projects run on two other disks D and E (1T),  7200 rpm and a third disk H (750G) 7200rpm.
    The question is:
    1.     Does PPRO and Audition  accept the "solid state configuration? Can this maybe gives the problem of slow working drives
    2.      If solid state is not accepted by Adobe, is is advisable to run the OS (Windows 7)  on the solid state C and place all other programms on a seperate disk D?
    3.       Or is it advisable to replace the (principally faster)  solid state module for a fast normal drive 72000 rpm. with the OS and all the programms on it?

  • MTron Pro 7000 64gb Solid State Drive (SSD) in my Mac Pro: Am I the first?

    All -
Just purchased the MTron Pro 7000 64gb 3.5" SATA SSD drive a couple of days ago and popped it into Bay 1 of my Mac Pro (2.66ghz Quad - 4gb Ram).
Installed Leopard on it -- unbelievable! Boots in about 6-8 seconds! (I don't even see the swirling wheel appear under the apple symbol!).
Used bootcamp to partition it evenly (32gb/32gb) and installed Vista Ultimate and it is working nicely as well.
Under Vista, I've run into the Intel speed "Cap" and the drive tops out at about 75-78MBps (almost 10MBps slower than the Raptor it replaced) -- but with such low latency (.1 ms) it definately seems snappier than the Raptor was. I hope Intel issues a driver fix for this.
Under Leopard however, using XBench, I am seeing sequential reads in the 99-100MBps range!!! This is why I think the problem under Windows is an Intel driver issue.
Anyway -- just wanted to share my findings with you guys -- happy camper here!

  • Solid state hard drive space problem

    hello to all,
my friend owns the macbook air, we bought the one with the 64GB solid state hard drive.... we checked all the folders within the user folder (application, library, music etc.) and they total a 12GB or so of space! but it says the hard drive is full and he has 1GB left..... what might be the problem???

You may wish to try this application: Omni Disk Sweeper
    http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/
It'll scan the HD for you and give a break down as to where things are and hopefully assist in resolving the issue.
At least then you can determine if the number it returns equals the number you expected. Also, is your friend syncing a local copy of his iDisk? Or a FileVault user?

  • Wicked fast dual G5. Solid State HD For the win!!

Just go out and buy one..period. I got a 64gb solid state SATA 2 HD at Micro center. Installed and ran a fresh copy of leopard on it. I use it as my boot drive for the OS and Apps. The original HD is now a storage drive for iTunes , iPhoto , aperture and other storage hog apps.
The speed gain is incredable. The machine starts in under 20 seconds and is fully loaded ready to rock. Apps open right on demand. Even a RAM and HD hog program like Aperture completely opens in under 3-4 seconds. Internet speeds are burning too.
FWIW.. My Machine. Power Mac Dual 2.5ghz G5..4gb of RAM.
Trust me folks...Its like my G5 just found the fountain of youth!
IMPORTANT Make sure you get a SATA 2 device!               SATA 3 will cause problems.

Nice to know that it works for you, but a 64 GB unit would be unusable as a boot drive for me or even as a Photoshop scratch disk drive.  If there are ever affordable SSDs in the 300 GB range and higher, I'll take another look.
That being said, your post is refreshing as up until now I had read only negative comments on using SSDs on a Power Mac.  Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • Solid State Drive Upgrade Questions

    Hello!!
I'm looking at removing the optical drive (recently deceased) from my MacBook Pro as I rarely use it and can use my friend's external one for the rare occasions I'd need it, and replacing it with a second hard drive. I've heard that this port can't reliably handle 6Gbps speeds so I'm going to put my 1TB mechanical drive in place of the optical drive and put a 64GB solid state in as the "main" drive.
My intention is as you might expect, to use the SSD for OS X and applications.
My first question, is what folders do I need to copy onto that SSD? I'll be using Carbon Copy Cloner to do this task. Do I have to select every folder on the source drive and just unticking any media and data that I'm going to keep on the mechanical 1TB?
When I have the two drives installed, where will my 1TB data appear? Will it still show up in Finder as it does with a single drive, or will appear as another storage device as if it were external? If it's as another device, can I make OS X make it look like everything is on the same drive?
I don't know a huge amount about this stuff, I know enough to do the copying and changing of hardware but not that much about working with OS X in Terminal or anything like that so please be patient if I ask lots of "How to" questions If there are online guides already answering my questions it'd be great to have some links, I've had a hard time finding them!
    Thanks

Solid state drives have yet to become a worthwhile venture as their use in high end computing has not yet been proven.  One of the biggest problems with SSD's is the fact that they cannot come to par with traditional drives in terms of random write speeds.  Most people take a performance hit with these types of drives except for the exception of one company, which has gotten speeds up to traditional drive speeds.
However, sequential read and write speeds are marginally faster than traditional drives, which gives u a boost on boot, which is noticably faster.  For most business users, the upgrade to an SSD will not yield any tangible results except when transferring bulk files back and forth, at which point one would notice a significant performance hit.  Regarding battery life, the first time I used a SSD, it didn't help with battery life at all that was noticable.  However, it was well worth the upgrade as it made the laptop literally silent and cool.  It's surprising how much sound hard drives make these days ....
My two cents is that the SSD is really an expensive looks-only aesthetic mod but in terms of CG heavy users - not worth it yet unless you can run it in RAID 0 or 5 with 4+ drives, bringing performance quite up to par.  At that point, a desktop machine running RAM drives from Gigabyte might even be better....
