X301 battery reset question

I've been trying to reset the battery gauge on my Thinkpad X301 (Windows 7).
The reset function does run the battery down and then recharge it, but the test is never officially ended, even when left running for days. The Battery Maintenance windows remains on the the screen, with the "stop battery gauge reset" button waiting to be pressed.
Perhaps related is that my laptop keeps entering the sleep function during this test. Is that normal, or acceptable? It does this even when I instruct Power Manager to keep the laptop alive at all times.
I haven't been able to find any documentation that would explain these questions. In fact I can't tell whether this is a Thinkpad function or a Windows 7 function!
Can you anyone provide some advice?

I do not understand your question completely, I am guessing that you bought a OEM/Retail Window 7 and installed it? There is nothing wrong with it, and from the four X301 I have owned, it is much better than IMHO than the lenovo supplied recovery discs.I have both your setup (XP/vista) and have the upgrade discs during that period to upgrade to window 7.
The X301 is not under the enhance experience so there would be no difference between normal window 7 and lenovo supplied window 7 recovery discs (for X301).
What you may need to do is to download lenovo software update and install all the latest drivers and utility to bring it back to all the features you want. Obviously there is no blue button recovery function so you would need to use window 7 built in backup software to save your system image, burn a CDROM for recovery, and so on.
The SSD could be suffering from no garbage collection, have you tried running the TRIM/garbage collection software from the manufacturer? Eg Intel and samsung should have their own tools.

X301 "Battery 2: there is an error"

I have an X301 2777CTR, purchased from the Lenovo Outlet. The computer was spec'ed as having no internal optical drive, and I assumed the cover over the bay where the optical drive or a second battery would go was just that--a cover with no other function except to keep dust out. Also, when I charged the battery, Power Manager reported only one battery present and charging. I ordered a second battery for the empty bay. When the battery arrived and I went to install it, surprise! A second battery was already there.
Now, knowing that there really are two batteries in the computer, Power Manager shows "Battery 2: there is an error." I can't find any reference for this error message on these forums or in the Lenovo troubleshooting files. How do I get Power Manager to recognize the second battery and report its charge and health state?

It looks as though I have solved my own problem. I set Power Manager to do a battery reset of Battery 1. When it was done (draining and then recharging to 100%), Power Manager showed Battery 2 partially discharged, but in good condition. I am now running a reset on Battery 2. Assuming that results in the remaining battery being calibrated to the computer, I should be in good shape.

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox)

Encryption algrothim used for Password reset question and answer

We are trying to write a custom interface to the Password reset service.
The interface is supposed to allow the user to enter a question and answer, then using SAM SDK write the value to the iplanet-am-user-password-reset-question-answer.
The problem is SAM saves the values encrypted, so do any one know the encryption algorithm used and what is key or they are specified.

Your only option will be to contact iTunes Store support and see if they can help you. Click on this link and choose the Account Management option, and create a new case with iTunes Support.

Battery Big Question Mark Symbol

Battery symbol with a question mark indicates no battery present in the device. You can try cleaning the battery contacts with a pencil eraser, or replacing the battery.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

Black MacBook battery charger question.

Can I use the charger from a 2009 MacBook Pro on a 2006 Black MacBook Pro? I'm having trouble charging the battery on the MacBook and now think it might be the charger (I've already replaced the battery, reset the SMC, and run he battery update). The specs on the chargers themselves are very nearly, but not quite identical.

I'll be you anything it's not. With that many cycles it's not uncommon for weird things to start happening regardless of how well it performs. I would look into getting a new battery as well.

Battery adapter question

What does it mean when the adapter for the battery turns orange and then green and keeps flashing like that?

Orange means the battery is charging. Green means the battery is fully charged. The charging circuitry turns off once the battery is fully charged and will not turn on until the charge level drops below 95 percent.
If the light is constantly changing between orange and green then it means the battery is either not holding a charge or the control circuitry is not functioning properly.
You can try two things:
Have you ever calibrated the battery? If not that should be the first thing you try. The second thing to try is to reset the power management unit. If this doesn't resolve the problem take the computer in for repair (or replacement of the battery if that's the only problem.)

Pram reset question

hi everyone,
a co worker of mine decided it would be a good idea to reset the PRAM on a macbook here in our office (while I wasn't there, of course), because he said the charging icon just kept saying it was calculating even though the battery was full - anyway, he tried to do a PRAM reset and apparently held down apple/option/R/P and then held the power button down, to which he said the "breathing light" on the front of the macbook started blinking a lot and there was a noise from the speakers, he let go and the machine booted ok. I did a proper pram reset on the machine and repaired permissions and the battery charging/etc. is reading correct now... so my only question is, will this affect the machine? Is there anything that could have been messed up by this, or should it be ok because it was just a wrong button config? I can't see anything wrong with the machine, but I just want to make sure.
Being in IT is fun. ;P

thanks Troy, I think it's ok, everything seems to be ok, and the PRAM seems to be holding all info ok, like if I shut it down it remembers the previous volume settings, etc. so I'm sure it's fine. Thanks for the help, it means a lot. I was just worried because of the whole "weird noise and the light blinking a lot" thing... mostly I was worried that the RAM could have been damaged because the power was held down while the PRAM reset keys were held down, that didn't sound good to me, but these machines are pretty resilient, so I think I'm ok.
