X301 external monitor can't go above 1440x900 resolution.......help!

I am running an x301 which has Intel GMA4500MHD graphics.  I am using Windows 7.  All drivers and BIOS have been updated to the latest.
When I connect the x301 to my Vizio VF550M HDTV via a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, I can only goto 1440x900.  This is in clone or extended multiple monitor modes using either the Windows video control panel or the Intel control panel.  If I run the external monitor as a single display it lets me goto 1920x1080 as well as numerous other resolutions above 1440x900.  My Macbook Pro can connect via MiniDisplayPort to HDMI just fine to my Vizio TV and get full 1080p resolutions.
Does anyone know what I should check to see why this is? I see several people claim they run external monitors at many resolutions above 1440x900 or even above 1920x1080 in multiple monitor mode with no issue.  There is no specific "driver" for my TV, Vizio does not put one out, and their FAQ says you do not need a driver, so it just shows up as a generic device in Windows Control and in the Intel Control Panel it shows up as VF550M which is the correct model.  It does not allow me to change the refresh either.
Any ideas?
Brian

Ok, I got this fixed.  I had to go into Extended Display mode instead of Clone mode.  I also had to turn off my TV and turn it back on.  now I am jamming away at 1920x1080 and it looks great. I only wish the X301 sent audio over the DisplayPort for an even cleaner install.  I am using the monoprice.com DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
All is good, sorry for the false alarm!

  • How many external monitors can I support with 13" rMBP (late 2012)?

Device has two DisplayPorts and each is powering an external display properly. It also has an HDMI port. Can I connect a third monitor here?

I got my new 13" Retina in the other day (late 2013 model ME865LL/A)
I was all excited to see if the two Thunderbolt 2 outputs and the HDMI output would work together, but plugging in the HDMI output knocked out one of the Thunderbolt outputs, so what I read was right, the 13" model will only power two external monitors.  Before I got this I kept reading over and over how it wasn't possible, but that was dealing with the Late '12 or the Early '13 models, I was hoping that the upgraded video card on the newest Haswell versions may be different, but alas, not to be....
But I did implement a work around as I have a Matrox Triple Head 2 Go DP Edition for my old Macbook and what that does is make my two Lenovo 22" widescreens look like one big 3840x1200 monitor to it's host (tricking the MB to thinking "hey, this is one monitor"), so this allows me to use one Thunderbolt output to power these two monitors and then I am using an HDMI --> DVI cable to power an HP 23" widescreen monitor I also have running at full resolution, all this in addition to the Laptop display as well:
Here is a quick 20 second video of all monitors playing video....   the one on the left in the middle row was staggering but that is more a problem with AMC's website more than anything, I never get good stream speeds from their site

I just installed iStat 4 an hour ago and am showing CPU temps around 150 degrees, not really sure what "normal" is or what is acceptable......  I'm going to keep tabs on what the temps are as I finish up my workday here (another 6 hours to go)
I still want to re-arrangle things so i only have two levels of screens to deal with, but still formulating that setup with my desk

  • After connecting a late 2008 MacBook to an external monitor can I show different images on them?

After connecting an external monitor to my MacBook(late 2008) is it possible to show different images on the two screens at the same time?
    TIA

Yes. Open System Preference (under the Apple menu) and select Displays. See the instructions in this Apple article for how to continue.
    Best of luck.

  • External monitor will not go to native resolution on my macbook pro

Hi, I have just bought a 22" Westinghouse monitor connected to the dvi and I have no idea on how to display its native resolution of 1680x1050 I have tried mirroring the two monitors and it will not allow me to view the native resolution on my new monitor.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    earnerich,
When mirroring, your Macbook Pro will default to the highest resolution of the lowest-resolution display. In this case, your external monitor must be driven at your Macbook Pro's highest resolution; 1440 X 900.
If you configure the external monitor as an extended Desktop, you can increase its resolution to its maximum. In extended Desktop mode, both displays can be driven at their highest supported resolution.

  • Trying to run 2 external monitors, can't turn off clone mode

I have the 13" macbook pro running snow leopard, and recently bought two acer VGA monitors with a Matrox DualHead2Go. My problem: each monitor shows the same exact thing no matter what i do. I understand this is called "clone mode," and i can't seem to turn it off. I downloaded the driver for the matrox, and have tried a million different things to get clone mode to turn off. It seems like my computer only recognizes one monitor. When i try to arrange the displays under the preferences, it only shows only one external display. I have scoured the internet--no one else seems to have this exact problem. My guess is something's wrong with the dualhead2go, or maybe the one i have isn't the right one, or isn't for mac. Help please!
    thanks,
    hcm

If it's not too late to look at other products, you may want to check out Tritton's USB for multiple monitors.  Before I switched from a PC, I had used Matrox Dual Head2Go with hit and miss luck.  I then switched over to Tritton's product - it was a lot cheaper and worked better for me.  When I switched to my MacBook Pro, I was able to continue to use the Tritton USB.  I am currently running two monitors (VGA), plus my MacBook montor, for a total of three monitors.  For my two VGA monitors, I am using a DVI to VGA plug, and the Tritton USB.  It's been working great for me, and no problems with using extended desktop (as opposed to clone).
Good luck, and let me know if you have any folow-up questions.

  • How many external monitors can the i7 Macbook Pro run?

I have two external 22" LCD. Can the new i7 Macbook Pro run both of these?

Yes, (assuming the minidisplay port is as capable as on the earlier models) but you will need additional hardware.
    Have a look at http://daggle.com/macbook-pro-multimonitor-4-monitors-at-once-1577 and http://www.codza.com/triple-monitor-setup-unibody-macbook

  • X200 External Monitor -- In High Resolution, Tablet Pen Won't Work

I have an X200 Tablet running Windows 7 and need everything I write on the tablet with the digital pen to be simultaneously visible on an external monitor.  The problem is that when using both monitors simultaneously, the X200 will only display on the external monitor at the X200's maximum resolution (1280x800) even though the external monitor can go to a higher resolution (1680x1050).
I've tried the Ultramon app, which allows the Tablet and external monitor to both be at their max resolution (which is my goal) but then the digital pen won't work on the Tablet.
    Any thoughts on a solution?

    • Went to Best Buy
    • Paid for a DYNEX Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter ($25)
    • Came home and plugged in the adapter then the HDMI to DVI cable to the monitor. (Note: Monitor is a LG Flatron L22WTG) - DID NOT WORK
    • iMac knows monitor is plugged in and I can change the resolution on both monitors and mirror. (Note: Changed to every resolutions with/without mirror image.) - DID NOT WORK
    • Restarted computer - DID NOT WORK
    • Turned off/on LG monitor many times - DID NOT WORK
    • Unplugged/plugged back in many different ways - DID NOT WORK
    • Changed the HDMI to DVI cable with a better cable - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed BootCamp with Windows 7 - *BOTH WORK 100%*
    • Rebooted to OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed Windows XP - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Reinstalled OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Updated OS X from 10.6.4 to 10.6.7 - DID NOT WORK
Seems to be a driver problem with the new update (10.6.7). I will not update again till drivers are fixed.

  • If external monitor is placed above laptop screen, dock won't appear on external monitor

I've just migrated from PC to Mac and I've found something that drives me crazy.  The dock won't appear on my external monitor if the external monitor is placed directly above the MacBook Air built in display.  At home. I plug in my external monitor into my MacBook Air, place my laptop on my physical desktop just below my elevated external monitor.  My MacBook Air is open and I use its keyboard and its display, but my main display is my external monitor. I configured displays to match the physical arrangement:
Darn:  the DOCK REFUSES to appear on the "main screen"!!  This drives me crazy -- this did not happen in Windows!  The task bar obeyed my "main display" setting.
I can get the dock to appear on the main screen if I tell Mavericks of an arrangement that suits Mavericks -- somewhat side-by-side, as follows:
Now the dock shows up on my external monitor which I'd identified as my main screen before all these shenanigans.
The problem with the workaround is that the mouse does not track correctly between monitors so it's not an acceptable workaround.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to work around this for real?

Try booting your laptop normally, and then plug in the external monitor when the computer has fully logged in (or when it's waiting at the login screen). Does the problem still happen when you do that?

  • Can T43 drive 2 *external* monitors?

Hi folks -- this is my first posting and I didn't see this exact question asked before so I thought I'd try the experts! I have an IBM ThinkPad T43, model 1871-4CU, with Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family (according to the Device Manager). I also have a docking station P/N 74P6734. I'm trying to run two external monitors instead of using the laptop's display and a single external monitor, but my system doesn't seem to support this. I can certainly run the display and a single external monitor (off the VGA port on the dock) with no problem, but when if I close the laptop and try to run two external monitors, the Display Settings control panel doesn't seem to recognize the second monitor (run off the DVI port on the dock). The Intel GMA Driver for Mobile control panel also doesn't recognize that a second monitor is attached. I know the second monitor and the DVI cable are fine because if I remove the VGA monitor the DVI one works just fine. My hunch is that since the laptop itself only has a VGA port on it and no DVI, that by design it can only support one external monitor at a time and not two. I was hoping, though, that since the dock has both ports that I'd be able to to drive two external monitors (again, just two external monitors, not those two plus the laptop's display for a total of three). Am I correct in thinking I can't get around this or maybe there's something I'm overlooking -- like a driver update -- that would allow me to drive two external monitors? Thanks in advance for your help here!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The reason your T41 works with DVI is it has the ATI 7500 discrete graphics. The original poster had a T43 with the Intel integrated graphics which did not support DVI.
I don't have my T42 with the ATI card with me so I cannot check using it on my 1680x1050 DVI monitor but I know I have used it with an external VGA 1440x900 monitor.
Did you upgrade to the latest driver?

  • Macbook pro(2008 later) can not recognise external monitor(NEC UXI2090) with mini-DP to DVI adapter with 9600GT

I bought mini-DP to DVI frome Apple several monthes ago and it worked well in that time until yesterday the external monitor show me no signal sign. Other PCs were connected with the same cable and monitor and they are fine. I am wondering there is something wrong in the adaptor or macbook pro. Furthermore I found the external monitor can display nornally when I switched to 9400 graphic card and used mini-DP to VGA adapter. If I switch to 9600GT no signal again. If I switch 9400 using mini-DVI, it is shown on the external screening: Out of range... In a word, In the mode of 9600GT, mac can not recognise external monitor(I can not detect it in the systerm preference even I press detect display buttun) and 9400 works in VGA mode. However when I connect adapter to mac, the screen showed blue flash.
I reseted SMC, no use; I created a new account or enter mac to safe mode, no use; so far I did not reseted PRAM beacuse of something wrong of my system. I am downlaoding Mountain Lion OS and will install it. Then I will reset PRAM and try again.
I do not know whether I shoud change the adapter or the single-link DVI cable to dual-link. Someone said it is useful in their condition. I tried some methods from BBS, such as connected when devices were off and then open, and so on. I failed.
    Any suggestion for this problem?
    Addition: OS: 10.7.4(Lion)

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

  • External monitor shifted to the right

i just got an external monitor (acer v223W) which support max resolution of 1680x1050. but when i try and use xrandr like:
    xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1440x900 --output VGA1 --mode 1680x1050 --right-of LVDS1
what i see is shifted by about 100px or so to the left. so on my right had side i have a black bar and when i move a window from my external monitor to my laptop i can tell that the window disappears for a bit before staring to show up on my laptop. before i had a different monitor with max resolution of 1600x900 and xrandr worked great.

    @ewaller
interface is VGA. i have tried changing the H. Position on the monitor to "slide it back" but even when it's completely at 100% on one side i gain back half of the black area. i don't know what else i can change on the monitor that would help me out.

  • No Signal to External Monitor

I use KDE and have a HP ProBook 6560b with a dock/port replicator.  My problem is that signal to my external monitor doesn't automatically work on login rather it be via VGA or DVI (currently hooked up over DVI).  I tinkered around with it and got it to work sometimes but not consistently.
Edit:  This also seems to happen in Gnome using Gnome's display config tool.
That aside, my even bigger issue is when I click KRandRTray down in the system tray and change the display settings to what I want, my external monitor goes to sleep and says "no signal."  The settings I want are for my laptop's attached LCD panel (LVDS1) to be "Disabled" (since I keep my laptop lid closed in the dock) and I want my externally attached monitor (HDMI2) to be set to 1680x1050 (Auto).  The even stranger part of this is I can eventually get this to work if I start it dual monitor, pick my secondary external monitor (HDMI2) and set it's resolution to 1680x1050 (Auto), set primary display to HDMI2, hit apply then go back in and set LVDS1 to "Disabled" and hit apply again.
To add to this, if at any point in time the external monitor goes to "no signal" mode and the settings restore after the countdown, the external monitor will never show signal until I drop out to a console and killall X and it restarts KDM, etc.
I don't have any Xorg.conf (or config files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d) that relates to video settings.
The following is my graphics card that is integrated into my Core i5:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    Also, the xf86-video-intel version:
    xf86-video-intel 2.15.0-2
This is the entire Xorg.0.log file up to the no signal situation on the external monitor:

Since this is a multi-part problem I guess my initial task is to understand why going directly to disabling the laptop's LCD and setting my external monitor to 1680x1050 (Auto) doesn't work without going through the other steps.

First step would be to create the necessary entries (easier to make a complete xorg.conf versus xorg.conf.d/##-whatever.conf).
All Desktop Environments / Window Managers rely on X.  Man pages are helpful, possibly some headaches ahead as I fought a dual-monitor display this way.
I currently run a xrandr script to switch displays on my hp pavilion: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xrandr#Scripts

  • EXTERNAL MONITOR  - FCP 5 - G5 QUAD

    Hi everybody,
I am having problems with the external monitor using FCP 5.0.4.
I get no video signal at all in it. The screen mantains the usual desktop piucture .
I just moved to the Quad from a G4 where I used to edit with my external Monitor without problem.
My External Monitor is SONY DVI - and the Quad is plugged to it via one of the two DVI back connections of the Quad (as I used to work on my G4, meaning no fw).
On the VIEW> VIDEO PLAYBACK menu appears
CINEMA DESKTOP PREVIEW - MAIN as the only choice wich when selected turns my main monitor ( not the external) into the video output.
Of course I´d like to operate FCP via the Main monitor, and receive External Video in the External Monitor.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Monitor thru your camera or deck...
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Re: Dynadock not able to configure properly external monitor

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I found a problem with my Dynadock (PA3541EY1PRP) in terms that it is not able to configure properly the monitor (LG Flatron E2250V-PN).
I would make clear that my PC is working under win 7 64bit.
    Thanks oodles for your support.
    Regards
    MAx

    ok,
when I connect VGA cable to the dynadock, external monitor apperas to be in low resolution.
Checking in the "screen resolution", windows shows "no monitor" (can I attach a file to show the screenshot?) and the maximum resolution is set at 1440X900. Therefore, I am forced to connect directly the external monitor to the pc. In this case the monitor is properly recognized as "VGA monitor" and the resolution appears to be rightly set at 1920X1080.
    thanks
