Hello Volker, welcome to Lenovo forums!
Unfortunately it seems you have already tried everything to force it to work.
If it´s not recognised in bios, I would suggest to call support.
You might try a Linux live CD, but there´s no really hope
and you already know it too, as an experienced ThinkPad user, I think.

  • HP Laptop doesn't recognize Hard Drive

    Hi,
I have a HP 620 (Pentium D 2,3GHz 1GB Ram) and it doesn't recognize the Hard Drive. The battery doesn't seem to work too.
If i try to install Windows, it says that there are no hard drives found. The diagnostic test in the BIOS says the same.
The DVD player is also lousy as **bleep**.
Do you guys have some tips about cause of this problem.

Have you entered the UEFI PC Diagnostics to see if the component tests show the hard disk?
Had you considered removing the original hard disk, then reseating it and trying again to see if it is recognized as beong installed?
You can also put another hard disk in its place to see if it is recognized.

  • P965 won't recognize optical drives and can't undate BIOS thru LiveUpdate

Changed mobo's from amd x2 to P965 Platinum and all went well except that mobo won't recognize optical drives either through USB  or IDE channels. Heard I needed to upgrade the bios but every time I use Live Update it gives me a "Copy file fail" error. The floppy drive works fine for other tasks and copies fine. Changes floppies and no luck and same result. Tried at least 10 times.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks

Before I waste any more time let me try a clean install and see what happens. My old  program drive was an IDE drive and I will see what happens when I install on a SATA drive. I'll be back if problems arise. Thanks to all.

  • Hard drive from G3 to G4, can't get it to recognize DVD drive, HELP!

Hi, the hard drive in my G4 laptop went kaput so I replaced it with the one from my old G3 (I cannot afford new parts). That HD had OS X 3.9 installed on it and seems to run fine, however, the old computer didn't have a DVD player and now since I put the HD on this one that does, it doesn't recognize it. It seemed to detect all the new aspects of the newer computer like how much ram it has and the processor speed, but it still says it has the old CD-rom drive. Can I do this without wiping the HD and reinstalling OS X because I don't have the installation disks and cannot afford to purchase any? Is there something I can run to auto-detect it? It is crucial that I get this working, I have kids and this computer was our only TV/DVD player! Any ideas? Thank you! In case it helps, the system profiler says this (The model should say DVD too, right?):

I don't know how hardware specific OSX installations are but you're jumping a bit from G3 to G4. I also take it you had some version of OSX on this G4 before as otherwise it may need a Firmware update.
You can try resetting the PRAM and/or CUDA to get the computer to have a fresh look at hardware present.

  • Latest iTunes update: computer doesn't recognize DVD drive

I updated iTunes and my computer doesn't recognize my keyboard and my DVD drive.
I was able to get the keyboard back by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

  • My Ipod Touch Won't Charge Properly and My Laptop doesn't recognize it.

Everything was fine until this morning.
I was charging my iPod Touch while my daughter and I were playing with it. Since I have to do some errands, I removed the charger even though the battery was not yet full. I did played a bit, even took some photos. After an hour or so I decided to plug in the charger again. I was waiting for the BEEP sound it does whenever it charges, but it didn't make any beep sound nor the battery display didn't turned green. I tried plugging it on my laptop, and my laptop just gives me a message saying it doesn't recognize the device. So I went to borrow my mom's speaker (she have an iPhone and charges it using a speaker for iPhones/iPods since her own charger is broken), it still doesn't charge but when I play music on my pod, the speaker reads it. So I tried turning off then turning on my iPod, same thing happens, still not charging. So I asked my brother about it, he said I should try pressing the home button and power button for 10 secs til the Apple logo appears while charger is plugged. So I did, then VOILA... the much awaited BEEP sound and the green battery.. IT IS CHARGING!!!... so I left it for like two hours, expecting the battery would be full (waiting for the plug icon on the battery)... but all I got is like a 99% green. So I left it charging for 10 more minutes. Still the same after ten minutes, and gave it another ten minutes, still the same again. So I unplugged the charger and replug it again... I went back to NO BEEP, NO GREEN BATTERY CHARGING SIGN. I did the hold for ten seconds home and power button til the Apple logo appears, there goes again the beep and the green battery. I checked it again... it seems like I need to do the ten seconds home and power button press every time I plug in the charger.
Now I tried it on my laptop, same troubleshoot, but this time, it didn't give a beep sound nor a green battery sign. My laptop still doesn't recognize the device. I dunno what to do. Please help me. It's really frustrating me. I tried looking for answers online but only got the same troubleshooting I did.

  • ITunes Won't Recognize Optical Drive / Can't Burn Discs.

Hi. I’m having some problems w/ an installation of iTunes on a Windows 64 bit PC.  Specifically, when iTunes is installed, Windows 7 no longer recognizes the optical drive, and I can't burn discs via iTunes.  I’ve attempted to implement all the solutions identified here,

, and still find myself trapped in a vicious circle; i.e., (1) with iTunes installed Windows 7 no longer recognizes the optical drive, (2) Upon clearing the UpperFilters Value  of GEARAspiWDM  in the registry at  {4De36E965 … } Windows 7 functions as expected and I can play cds in iTunes, but iTunes produces an error messages at start up along the lines of “iTunes did not install properly. Or, there’s a registry error ”  In either case, I am not able to burn cds via iTunes.

  • Mac Pro no longer recognizes Optical drives

I was working on my mac Pro and it suddenly restarted itself. After that happened neither Superdrive would be recocnized by the OS. Oddly it took a very long time to boot, approximately 2 minutes. I have a Apple OEM DVR-111PB and a Pioneer DVR-112D. I disconnected the drives and it booted normally fairly quick. So I tested the two on another mac and the DVR-111PB will not recognize anything put in it. The other one works fine.
So I just installed the DVR-112 only, in the Mac Pro and it took a while to boot up and it still would not recocgnize it.
I have zapped the pram, reset the SMC and attempted to reinstall the upgrade to 10.4.11 to no avail.
Any thoughts on why the OS is not communicating with the drives? I do get the -70012 "A valid DVD drive could not be found." error message when I tried to run the Apple DVD player.
I have an external firewire DVD and I'm thinking I may have to reinstall the OS from it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

After getting into this a little further it is looking like it may be a power supply issue. I ran the extended diagnostic utility on an external firewire drive and everything passed. I measured voltage at the power connector for the optical drives and on the 12V side it is only getting 9.7VDC and the 5V side it is at 4.9VDC. As I mentioned in the OP the drives spin up and such attached to another computer. I'm wondering if the powersupply is going bad and the 9.7V isn't enough to run the drive. I hooked the DVD drives up to an external power supply while the data cable was connected to the mac and viola, the drive is recognized, actually both DVDs are recognized when hooked up in this manner. So essentially the DVD drives are OK as well as the ATA bus.
Now to the power issue. The power supply on the 12V side of the connector seem to vary all over the place, anywhere from 6 to 11.55 volts on the 12V side of the connector. The 5V side is a constant 4.9VDC.
I'll see what I can find for power supply diagnostics. I'm wondering if the 12V comes straight from the power supply or does it go through some voltage regulator on the main board to reduce the voltage to 12VDC. There are 4 connectors on the power supply marked PS1 through PS4. I need to find out what is what. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • My Pavilion g7 no longer recognizes optical drive.

Over weekend, notebook no longer recognizes DVD drive.  Compuiter lists C: and its two partitions, Drecovery) and EHP Tools), but no DVD drive (I believe it was) H:  When I put in a DVD, the drive spools up a bit, then stops.  Auto-play does not work.
How can I get it to "see" the optical drive again?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now listed and working.
If it still iit's still missing, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now listed and working.

  • IPhoto doesn't recognize iPhoto library - HELP!

When I opened iPhoto today, there are "no photos" in the library, and when I open it holding the option key and try to select the iPhoto library (which does exist) it says it can't recognize those files. I can't get iPhoto to be the default application for jpeg files either - it says it doesn't recognize those either. I know the photos are there in the library but iPhoto won't open them - please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Further, iPhoto is a database not an image viewer and it cannot be be set as the default application to view files.

  • Leopard Issues When Installing, Doesn't recognize external drives

Is the partition scheme and format consistent with that machine and Leopard?
    Were the drives password protected?
Can you mount the drives using the terminal?
Do the drives show up on any another computer running Tiger? If they don't then going back to Tiger won't help.
