X305-q725 freezing up, but not in safe mode

Yo hi you guys doing!
I have showed up on this website a couple times now regarding my qosmio x305 Q725 for support, And I always appreciate the help from some people in this forum . So here I am AGAIN XD !!
Today (Actually yesterday) the problem I am having with my gaming laptop seems to be just as unique as the other ones (the usual).
To sum it up, I was watching HD videos with VLC on my laptop, when the PC froze on me with a glitching and looping sound (like a CD player attempting to read a scratched cd). ctrl + alt + del wouldn't do a thing, mouse was frozen as well... Only the power off button held for a couple seconds seemed to do something useful (somewhat anyways).
Though my laptop originally came with a 64 GB SSD with vista (32 and 64 bit) and another 320 GB D drive, I replaced both of them about 7 months ago. The new items are now: a 128 GB SSD drive with Win7 64Bit, a 500GB 7200rpm d drive.
In order to make a quick check wether or not it was the windows at fault here, I changed the C drive quickly from the 128 SSD with Win 7 back to the original 64 SSD with vista 64bit on it. Normal start up with either drives will result in another freezing and lock up laptop a couple seconds after starting it up normally, so there really is nothing to be done on that front. But when I start it in safe mode, I was able to keep it running for a good 5minutes and actually shut it off normally!
From device manager, there was no exclamation points or irregularities (Like when my graphics card stopped functioning). The laptop seems to make the normal mechanical noises (vents, cd player, hard drives being waken up) as usual.
There you have it! Think I did not miss any points. So I guess I am wondering if this is a: Hardware problem?! though device manager won't see it... Or a software problem?! Though even my old vista exhibits the same symptoms, problem is definitely repeatable with both windows, and therefore 2 very different set of drivers (those in win7 being newer then those in the Vista drive). Maybe even a BIOS issue here?
Thanks for reading my wall of text this far , and maybe for the future help! (Using my room mate's Mac, I won't be online all the time! But I will check up asap!).
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Problem's been solved for a week now, I thought I would post the solution to help other users who would use the search index.
It was a VIRUS (Actually a couple of them) which was affecting my OS most likely on the D drive (not the C drive). Though I didn't thought it could possibly be one since my Norton Antivirus 360 never picked up anything, also I changed physical C drive (Replaced the C drive from a 128GB SSD with Win7 to a 64GB SSD with vista on it which was working well the last time I used it). Completely changing C drives didn't solved the problem at all, I had no idea viruses could also be taking shelter in the D drive as well. The good people of Geek squad solved my problem quickly by analysing both hard drives with an antivirus from another computer so that the affected drives wouldn't be in use by windows directly (Hopefully I explained this right, but roughly, if your drives are in the computer, scanning for viruses may very well proove useless.... yeah !!!).
As far as they told me, if I had scanned them using another computer with an up to date antivirus in a way that the concerned drives are connected through USB, and are concidered by the computer as external devices, the antiviruses should be able to detect the threats, but not if you connected it through SATA or other "internal" device. So if you guys don't want to spend $200 at best buy I suggest you try this!
So there you go hopefully I will help other people with this explanation. I know I am not very clear in explaining it but I did my best, my knowledge is limited with computers!

  • Some programs crash but not in safe mode or for guest user

Hoping that some talented and kind Mac wizard will help me solve a bizarre problem: Some but not all of my programs have started crashing immediately upon launch, but not in safe mode, nor when I log in as a guest user.
The problem began on February 5th, right after I installed an update to my OS (bringing it up to version 10.7.3), which included an update to the firmware for my computer, a Mac mini from mid-2010. The programs that began crashing upon launch *may* be those that were open at that time, but I can’t be sure. They include Adobe Reader, Picasa, Word for Mac, and a sweet little utility called uCalendarX.
Specifically what happens with, say, uCalendarX, is this:  After I launch it, nothing appears on screen for a few seconds, and then comes a message that it is trying restore its windows, with a choice of whether to attempt restoring them or not. After a few more seconds comes the news that it has quit unexpectedly. The first several dozen lines of the crash log appear at the end of this posting.
So far my troubleshooting has revealed the following:
    (a) When I reboot in safe mode, the programs that crash now work normally.
    (b) When I boot the usual way but log on a guest user, the programs that crash now work normally.
    (c) Fully emptying the trash made no difference.
    (d) The problem was not solved by restoring my hard drive (via Time Machine) to its state the day before I downloaded that update to the OS and the firmware. (This was a drastic step, the intervention of last resort, and I was sure it would work. But no. Perhaps I did not go back far enough for the restoration.)
    (e) Deleting the plist files and plist.lockfiles made no difference.
    (f) Deleting the files for the app under Saved Application States made no difference.
    (g) Disabing the user’s font cache (as happens in safe mode) made no difference.
    (h) Uninstalling Adobe Reader, emptying the trash, downloading the latest version, and installing that made no difference – this latest version newly installed continues to crash (but not for a guest user, nor for me, the administrator, in safe mode).
(i  ) Repairing permissions on the hard drive made no difference.
I will be mighty grateful for a solution to this perplexing, vexing problem!
B.t.w., I don’t know Unix but was able to do all those (fruitless) interventions listed above.

Thanks for thinking about my problem. I've already experimented with creating a new user, a co-administrator. The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.
    Thanks again for your suggestion.

  • Firefox crashes randomly even with all extensions disabled and new profile, but not in safe mode

Starting from about 2 weeks ago, Firefox has been crashing. The crashes is seemingly random, but normally happens when many pages/tabs are open. Also, all observed crashes happened in middle of some user operations. If I just leave it open(and loaded), it would never crash even after a long time.
Also, the crashes would still happen even after ALL extensions are disabled manually. However it doesn't seem to happen in Safe Mode.
After every crash, in the crash report dialog, the "Details" report would not respond. However I can open the reports using about:crashes.
Before the crash would happen, sometimes the following ill-behaviors could be observed:
    * Firefox fails to render CJK characters, displaying them as square boxes instead
    * CJK IME(Namely Google Pinyin, an IME for Simplified Chinese) could no longer be activated in Firefox, neither on a webpage element nor on UIs of Firefox itself(i.e. address bar or search bar)
The following has been tried but no luck:
    * Disable ALL extensions manually
    * Start a new profile
    * Reset Firefox
    * Uninstall/Reinstall Firefox
    * Switch from FX 14 to 15, then to 16 beta

hello Rainarrow, some other users who have recently updated the graphics driver for their ati hardware (to ati catalyst version 12.8) have reported similar crashes. please try disabling hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general & see if this resolves the issue of frequent crashes for the moment.

  • Crash Affecting only One Login - But Not in Safe Mode

I have an iMac (built-in iSight) that suddenly has problems with only ONE login (the other accounts on the machine work fine). The troubled login won't mount the desktop at all, even with the entire library folder removed. Ran DW utility, but that didn't help. The interesting thing is, if I boot in SAFE mode, the problem goes away.
What am I missing? If there's a problem with some bit of startup code, driver, etc., why is it only affecting one login?
I realize my info above is sketchy. Hoping it might be enough for somebody to offer a clue... thanks.

    Hi, Lonestar.
An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. In this case, it would likely be a Login Item defined in the affected account. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem. Focus on the instructions concerning Login Items with the affected account.
    Good luck!

  • Time Machine Kernel Panics, but not in safe mode - what should I look for

    Hi,
Time machine Crashes (Kernel panic) when Run normally.
When I boot in Safe mode, it runs fine.
Is there a list of programs known to cause issues with Time Machine?
If not where should I look?
I assume my ID's "Login Items" - but is there anywhere else to look?
Here's a list of what I have on my machine that I suspect gets bypassed with safemode:
    VMWare Fusion Helper
    Dropbox
    Clusters Helper
    GrowlHelperApp
    gfxCardStatus
    Cinch
    Sizeup
    whichdaemon
    Xmarks for Safari
    LMILaunchAgentFixer
    itunesHelper
    ThingsHelper
In addition to the above 'Login Items' I also have Mozy home backup installed, Logmein, and istat menus.

Well as luck would have it, we can rule out istat menu as well...
    After uninstalling istat menus,
It crashed around the 180GB mark.
here is the latest crash dump:

  • T510 Randomly BSODs - but not in Safe Mode

My brand new T510 randomly Blue Screens throughout the day, after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit aftermarket.  I've downloaded all the 64-bit drivers from Lenovo and installed them, I've updated to the newest BIOS.  I've rebuilt several times now and tried leaving certain drivers uninstalled.  It still BSODs.  Sometimes it's once every two hours, others it's 3 times in 10 min.
I am about to do a mem check.  The CPU doesn't appear to be overheating...in fact it usually freezes and reboots when I am on the web, or in a directory.  It comes back up with the 124 error.  I've looked at the minidump and haven't gleaned much info, as it's a different service or app that causes the BSOD each time.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is having issues with 64-bit Ultimate on the T510?  It appears to me it's a driver issue, as I can work just fine in Safe Mode.  But it may be a hardware issue,  I dunno....any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

No stability issues thus far.  It's the factory-installed Win7 Pro 64.  And I haven't updated any of the drivers or BIOS.  Once the new BIOS is out that fixes the keyboard issue, I'll update it and probably all the drivers and tools.
So, you didn't burn the recovery DVDs first before you nuked everything?

  • I want the cursor to be in the address bar when creating a new window; it works for new tabs and in a new private window, but not in safe mode.

I have tried following the advice offered in the few different threads I have found on this but nothing fixes it. I want the cursor to be in the address bar when I open a new window and/or when firefox opens without restoring a previous session. I fixed the issue for new tabs via about:config but this doesn't work for new windows. I tried safe mode and the problem persists. In new private windows the cursor is in the address bar.

The search box in about:home steals the cursor. Changing your home page to something else will cause the cursor to start in the address bar for new windows.

  • G4 iBook works in Safe Mode, but not in regular mode (stuck on blue screen)

    14" iBook G4 1.2GHz with 1 gig of RAM.
I recently had an issue with this machine in that the image on the screen would freeze but the cursor would be able to move around. This was narrowed down to an issue with the logic board. I wanted something a little more permanent than a shim, so I sent the board in to have it reballed.
After installing the maching back into my iBook, it seemed to work fine until I applied a software update to the machine.
It was then that I got to experience the first of many kernel panics.
Restarting at different times always brought me to the dialog box which states that the machine needed to be restarted in multiple languages.
Running the Apple Hardware Test off my install disks yielded this error code: 2ATI/2/4:113-xxxxx-125
I have no idea what that means. I do know that just before I got the results of the test, the screen changed to all kinds of colors. It was only for a few seconds and then the results (with the error code) were displayed.
Still, not sure what to do next, I tried resetting the PRAM. I also tried resetting the NVRAM.
I also tried booting up into Safe Mode which actually worked. There were no issues with the machine and everything seemed to be working fine.
When I tried to restart the machine in regular mode, I'm taken to the infamous blue screen and the machine just stays there. When I let the machine stay off overnight, it booted up normal, but after applying the software update, the machine was in kernel panic again.
I've tried running fsck, but nothing changes.
I'm still not sure why it seems to work in Safe Mode but not in regular mode.
I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

    Hi,
A couple of the things that are disabled in safe mode are AirPort and non Apple startup items. The easiest thing for you to test is the AirPort card. Shut down and remove the AE card under the keyboard. See if it starts. If it does your AE card is bad. If not, start in safe mode and go to System Preferences>Accounts>youraccount and disable all non Apple startup (LOgin) items by clicking on them and then the minus sign. Restart normally and see if it will start.

  • OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4: imessage works fine in safe mode, but not in "normal" mode. Any hints?

My iMessages does not work in "normal" startup, but it works perfectly in safe mode.
    Any hints?
I have the same problem on a MacBook Pro 17" and on a MacAir 13" mid 2011.
On my MacMini, iMessage work's fine.
I'm using same apple ID on all 3 devices.
Before update to 10.8.4, i had no problems.
FaceTime also stopped working after update to 10.8.4.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Lars O.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • BDC works in A-mode but not in N-mode.  Why?

We recently upgraded from 4.6b to ERP6.  I have a BDC that fails in ERP6 so I am trying to rework it.  Something odd is happening.  I find that some BDCs run through find in A-mode while you're stepping through them but not in N-mode when it's hands-off.
Here's the really odd thing.  I have re-recorded a BDC against tran CO01 that creates a PP work order.  I take the recording and product a function.  I test the function with all of the default values intact accept for the new work order# and the function runs in A-mode.  It FAILs in N-mode.  It appears that ERP6 cannot run it's own BDC recordings.
I notice in A-mode that there are sometimes green info messages on the status line.  What I'm wondering is if these are ok in A-mode because I can hit enter and move on vs. N-mode that perhaps gets stuck on them.  I say that because I have seen BDCs fail and report in the MSGTAB information messages as though this is what caused the transaction to fail.
Is there some config setting in ERP6 that tells BDCs globally not to fail because of informational status messages?
    Thank you.
    Crew

    Hi,
this may be an issue if you or the transaction is doing any updates on screens which may fail as call transaction by default updates in the asynchronous mode...
so try executing the call transaction in synchronous mode and then check if its giving you the same error message.
    use
call transaction 'TCODE' using bdcdata mode 'N' update 'S'.
    Regards,

Running Mac 10.5.8 Updated to FF 8.0 - keeps crashing whenever FF opens - can not launch safe mode either - looks like many people here are having same issue - solutions all keep saying it has something to do with roboform 7.6.2 (which is for windows) or the profile. I have created new profile and updated the mac roboform - still no luck - have sent in MANY crash reports with no response ( one was Crash ID: bp-0eea6eb2-aba3-478a-bfb1-8f00d2111110 ) - anyone else find solution other than roboform or profile, or how do i get back to prior version?

    Any suggestions?
