X3500 wont work in Bridge mode with ASA 5505

Hi Everyone, I am currently running Linksys X3500 v1.0.0 and plan to use ASA 5505 as a PPPoE client. While PPPoE connection is working fine when i configure the linksys for PPoE, but When I configure the ASA 5505 to act as PPPoE client I'm unable to get the Linksys get the Internet up and running. I have opened support ticket with Cisco and per them X3500 is unable to provide PPPoE details in bridge mode. Cisco Ticket # 62968611 (PPPoE connection not working) The error on Cisco console is - asa5505# PPPoE: send_padiSnd) Dest:ffff.ffff.ffff Src:c8b3.735d.4e13 Type:0x8863=PPPoE-Discovery PPPoE: Ver:1 Type:1 Code:09=PADI Sess:0 Len:12 PPPoE: Type:0101VCNAME-Service Name Len:0 PPPoE: Type:0103:HOSTUNIQ-Host Unique Tag Len:4 PPPoE: 00000002 PPPoE: padi timer expired Can Linksys help.. What's the issue. Regards, Sumit

Hi! I'm not so familiar with the Cisco ASA 5505 device. If you set your X3500 to a Bridge Mode, it will not give any PPPoE mode details and vice versa. Which of the two devices would you like to connect to the ISP's connection, is it the X3500 or the ASA 5505?

  • Can't get my TC to work in Bridge mode...

I installed Time Capsule TC to my exsisting network, that has a Linksys router.  Can't get my TC to work in Bridge mode.  Suggestions?
I have the TC directly connected to the router and want to use the TC for wireless Time Machine back ups and to share other hardrives via
the network.  I also have an old airport express for airplay speakers in one room.  And an airport extreme that I thought I had set up to extend
the network wirelessly.  I have yet to find a concise and clear list of steps to make this happen.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Holly

The problem is the steps changed with the new airport utility..
I can tell you the steps on a 5.x utility. If you run Lion then download the real tool.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Go to manual setup.. internet tab.. connection sharing.. select off, bridge mode.. update the TC..
    Wasn't too hard was it.

  • Is anyone using a 1252 ap in bridge mode with channel bonding?

Is anyone using a 1252 ap in bridge mode, with channel bonding?
I had a question a while ago from a customer with regards to bridging with a 1252 ap to increase throughput for a wireless link he was using, from the throughput improvements in 802.11n. At the time I spoke to Cisco Pre-Sales, and they indicated that the bridge function in the 1252 exists for 'testing' purposes. I advised our customer that although it should be possible to implement, we may run into difficulties with TAC support ect. in the event of problems with the link.
Can anyone comment if this is a Cisco validated/approved design now?
Also, has anyone done this and tested the throughput achievable?
Has anyone bridged both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios on a 1252?
The reason I ask is I've seen a note about a Cisco 5Ghz 802.11n bridge being launched.
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex.

    Hi All,
Thanks for all the feedback; I have finally done some throughput testing with the 1252's. Please note, this is very rough, just to give an idea on throughput that's achievable, and what you can enable. Did this a few weeks back, and have now wiped the cnf, so dont have the show runs any more....
The two devices were set up a few feet apart, with the standard 2dBi and 3dBi antenna.
All tests done on the 5GHz radio with Autonomous AP IOS.
I did data transfers via a laptop either end of the link; transferring data using the Test TCP utility (wasn't going for scientific tests, just getting some idea of throughput).
    802.11a @ 54mbs (20Mhz chan) WGB - root to non root = 2.43 - 2.5MB/Sec = 19.44 - 20 Mbps
    802.11a @ 54mbs (20Mhz chan) WGB non root to root = 2.42 - 2.44MB/Sec = 19.44 - 20 Mbps
    802.11n @ 'n' rates( 20Mhz chan) WGB root to non root = 6.18 - 6.33MB/Sec = 49.44 - 50.64 Mbps
    802.11n @ 'n' rates ( 20Mhz chan) WGB non root to root = 4.77 - 5.00MB/Sec = 38.16 - 40 Mbps
    802.11n @ 'n' rates ( 40Mhz chan) WGB root to non root = 8.59 - 8.58MB/Sec = 68.64 - 68.64 Mbps
    802.11n @ 'n' rates ( 40Mhz chan) WGB non root to root = 6.35 - 7.20MB/Sec = 50.8 - 57.6 Mbps
    802.11n @ 'n' rates ( 40Mhz chan) Bridge root to non root = 9.73 - 10MB/Sec = 77.84 - 80 Mbps
    802.11n @ 'n' rates ( 40Mhz chan) Bridge non root to root = 8.40 - 8.57MB/Sec = 67.2 - 68.56 Mbps
So basically, as per the above posts, you can implement bridging on the 1252's and utilise the 802.11n rates and features, SGI, Spatial Streams and Channel Bonding etc, to achieve higher throughput.
Also, as per the above posts, this is still not supported by Cisco, so, in my case, I'd be highlighting that to customers straight off, but don't see it as too much of an impediment to deploy, as long as the customer weighs up the risks.
On a side note, I attended a Cisco session recently, and was told that the 802.11n Bridge, (the 1430?) was on hold indefinitely. My feeling is that this makes it more pressing that Cisco introduces support for bridging on the 1252.
Get in the ear of your local Wireless SE's, the more they hear it, the more they'll moan to the Wireless BU in San Jose! ;-)
Bridging with 802.11n has some interesting possibilities, I worked with Alvarion 5GHz bridges 6 or 7 years ago, that could do 'near LOS' - Worked well in cities, using reflection of the RF from buildings. I had never heard of 802.11n back then, but I'm guessing Alvarion was using MIMO to achieve good non-LOS connectivity in the 5GHz band.
    Cheers,
    Alex.

  • Using a Dlink router in bridged mode with Airport Express

I have a broadban connectiond via a Zyxel P-660 wifi modem + router.  I have connected the Airport Express to this modem via ethernet and set up a wifi network. The wifi on the Zyxel has been turned off.
Since the wifi signal is weak in the other rooms, I am planning to link up a Dlink DIR-600 router running on the DD-WRT firmware on the bridged mode with the AE.
What settings do I need to have on the Dlink ?

I am planning to link up a Dlink DIR-600 router running on the DD-WRT firmware on the bridged mode with the AE.
If you are planning to have the Dlink device pickup the wireless signal from the AirPort Express and then "repeat" that signal, it is extremely unlikely that this will work.
Apple uses proprietary settings for their "extend" feature, which will only work with other Apple routers. It is....as far as we know....not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.
What settings do I need to have on the Dlink ?
All you can do is try to follow Dlink's instructions to setup the device as a "repeater" or "relay". The DD-WRT Forum might provide some tips. As you might imagine, there will not be much chance of a Dlink user ever seeing your post on an Apple forum.
    DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - D-link DIR-600
There are no settings on the AirPort Express to adjust for this other than the obvious setting to check the box next to "Allow this network to be extended" on the Wireless settings page.
    Good luck

  • E2500 Web Interface doesn't work in bridge mode

I recently bought a Cisco E2500 for work, and after setting the router to Bridge Mode, I am unable to access the router web interface.  I tried both the old IP address (192.168.1.1) and the IP address that I entered when I was configuring Bridge mode, but I couldn't get either to work.  I have always tried resetting the switch to factory defaults and trying again to make sure I didn't type anything wrong, but to no avail.  The wireless and everything works as it should, I just can't get back into the router to change any of my settings.  Any suggestions?

OK, it's working now for me : you must put a static address on your bridge that is on the same range of your Internet network.  I also update the firmware to 1.0.03 after a factory reset (just in case...).
    here's my Working Config:
    - Linksys WBR router (for Internet access) with LAN address 10.100.2.1 (DHCP enable from 10.100.2.100 to 10.100.2.199).
    - E2500 Router in BRIDGE Mode with Static address 10.100.2.201, gateway 10.100.2.1 (My WBR router).  I configured the WiFi settings and the Guest WiFi settings and everything works fine !
    - My laptop are obtaining IP address from my WBR router in the range 10.100.2.x and I can access the Web Interface of the E2500 at address 10.100.2.201 if a have to change config.
    Hope this help !

  • Ace module in bridged mode with client nat

Could someone confirm whatever a NAT is supported for ACE-20 module, please?
Let me to explain technical details.
I do need to convert working CSM(SLB) config to ACE configuration and I am not quite sure
if the configuration below is correct. ACE module should be configured in bridge mode with two
vlans - vlan 36 (client) and vlan 436 (server) - bridged with interface bvi 36.
NAT on ACE configurad as "nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436" into corresponding
    "policy-map type loadbalance"
Could you check two parts of configs and advise me if the ACE config is
properly converted from CSM and will be working in the same way (especialy for NAT).
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello F.Makarenko-
You will want to use PAT while you do nat, so change the natpool configuration to this:
       nat-pool 1025 10.36.3.100 10.36.3.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 pat
You also need to apply the nat like this:
    policy-map multi-match IFVLAN36-POLICY
    class WEBMAIL-80
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-80
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436
      class WEBMAIL-443
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-443
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436
If you are going to build out a lot of classes, you can instead do source nat like this:
    policy-map multi-match IFVLAN36-POLICY
    class WEBMAIL-80
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-80
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    class WEBMAIL-443
        appl-parameter http advanced-options HTTP_ADV_OPT
        loadbalance policy WEBMAIL-443
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    class class-default
        nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436

  • ACE in bridge mode with FWSM as gateway

    our design
FWSM--vlan 7--ACE-vlan 8---servers with default gateway as FWSM
originally there were no plans of servers looking to load balance traffic when they wanted to communicate each other. now there is a need this
since ACE is in bridge mode, there are no ip address to VLAN configured on it and cant do source NAT
what we want servers in serverfarm A can contact a single ip which can be load balanced and traffic to be sent to serverfarm B. both serverfarms reside in vlan 8 and ace is in bridge. with VLAN not having IP how can we get this working. we were looking to create a policy on ACE with an ip address in vlan 8 and then do a source NAT to send the traffic to serverfarm 7.
with FWSM as the default gateway, by enabling permit intra traffic , it doesnt work because the command routes the traffic, dont think will send the traffic back to the same vlan
    e.g static (inside,outside) 10.7.0.1 10.7.8.13 and allow intra traffic.
so when a machine 10.7.8.11 pings 10.7.0.1 it goes to the FWSM but fwsm doesnt look for 10.7.8.13
with ACE in bridge and FWSM doing above how to get around. can something be done on ACE in bridge mode with source NAT
    Thanks

First, why don't you have an ip in your ACE vlan ?
Then, for traffic hitting a vip, we can do source nating even in bridge mode.
But if the vip is not an ip in vlan 8, your server will anyway send the traffic to the FWSM and ACE will first bridge the request.
The FWSM should then send the request back to ACE (not sure how this can be done).
So the request from the server will actually hit the vip on vlan 7 (not vlan 8).
So your policy-map with client nat must be on vlan 7.
Another option would be to configure a static route on the server to point the vip to the ACE vlan 8 ip address (which you should have configured).
In this case, the policy-map will have to be in vlan 8 with client-nat.
    Gilles.

  • Setup airport extream in bridge mode with ethernet

how do i setup airport extream in bridge mode with ethernet connection to extend wireless coverage. thanks for help.

We need some additional information to be able to provide the correct answer for your question.
What is the make and model of your "main" router?
What device will you use to set up the AirPort Extreme?  Mac?  iPad/iPhone?
If you have a Mac, we need the operating system that you are using on the computer. If you are not sure, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • Westell 6100G in bridge mode with Linksys BFSR41 wired router

I have had a long go-round with V tech support over slow DSL speeds since March 2011. They sent me the Westell 6100G to replace an ancient Westell that had provided satisfactory service for many years, connected through my LInksys BFSR41.
Initially, I connected the Westell directly to a PC and did not see any improvement in speed (always around 1.3M since March). So I re-connected it in bridge mode with the LInksys. Slow speeds continued, plus periodic hiccups, where the connection would simply not exist, although the lights were all good and the LInksys said "connected. Cure was to wait or power down modem and router. The following week a V tech called and said they had made changes to the network and fixed a problem with my line.
Thereafter I did  see a vast improvement in speed as tested by Speedtest.net and Speakeasy.com (usually 2.8 M or thereabouts). But I still had the "hiccups". Now you see it, now you don't.
V tech support said, "connect the Westell directly". This indeed solved all intermittance problems. But I need the router  and I need it to do the DHCP addressing dynamically as I frequently swap out machines. FYI this is a PPOe connection.
I hope someone on the forum can help me before I spend anther 2 hours in voicemail limbo.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, my heat/humidity solution helped, but has not solved my problem. My connection still disappears at unpredictable, though less frequent intervals.  Any and all ideas willl be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Doomtrooper,
When you updated your iPhone 4S and iPad3 to iOS6, what exactly do you mean when you can't access the iTunes store? Have you checked your connection to the network?

  • Problem with ASA 5505 VPN config

    Hi to all,
I have a problem with ASA 5505 remote access vpn. I have site-to-site VPN and I need that my VPN clients can access IP subnets that I have behind site-to-site VPN. All that I have tried I get and error to my log “Flow is a loopback”.
So what I need : for example I need that vpn client with ip 10.0.0.1 can go to 192.168.1.2
    My config:

    network-object host 192.168.3.55
    network-object 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
I hope that someone can post an answer and solve my problem

    A few things are required:
    1) You don't need the following 2 lines, so it can be removed:
    nat (outside) 0 access-list nonat_outside
    nat (outside) 1 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
    2) On the ASA, you need to configure:
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    3) Object group: DM_INLINE_NETWORK_2 needs to include 10.0.0.0/24
    4) On the remote lan-to-lan end, the crypto ACL also needs to include 10.0.0.0/24 as the destination subnet.
    5) The NAT exemption (NONAT) on the remote lan-to-lan end also needs to include 10.0.0.0/24 as the destination subnet.
Hope that will resolve your problem.

I recently moved from a house a few miles away in which I had a solid DSL connection with a Westell 7500 in routed bridge mode that worked just fine with my Asus RT-N56U that I use for browsing, streaming, and online gaming.  When I moved, the technician insisted I take the newer Actiontec GT784WNV.  Needless to say, Verizon support was unsuccessful in getting it set up in bridge mode.  After about 4 hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting, I suggested swapping it back out with my 7500 which worked fine just 4 days prior in my old house.  Surprise!  It miraculously started working just as it had previously.  As I began to use it more, I noticed the connection was unstable.  I would get dropped from Xbox Live and lose connection temporarily on my iPad.  I ran the Verizon speed test and it would drop to about 0 and spike back up 3 or 4 times during the download test (don't think this is normal but could be).  Every day I would talk to Verizon who escalated it to a supervisor about 4 times.  They would then close the ticket without calling me.  When i would follow up, I was told the supervisor talked to me and I verified the connection was good.  Lying makes me livid and there is no accountability whatsoever at Verizon and it happened more than once.  It appears to be a way for them to pass the problem on to someone else.  I can go on and on about being put on hold for 40 minutes before disconnected, the 20+ hours I have spent re-telling my account info and story to every Tier 1 technician on their payroll for the past week, or the lack of competent customer service supervisors.  This weekend, I finally got a call from someone local who said my line had some faults on it and that the problem was somewhere between my jack and the central office and they would send someone out today.  Well....today the tech showed up and said "your problem is this old modem" and plugged in the Actiontec that I started with a week ago.  I asked if he tested my line or the jack as the lady on the phone told me, and he said no.  The problem is the modem.  I said, I don't want a modem/router, I just want a regular modem and he said he had one, but it would cost me.  How on earth is a plain modem going to cost me when they just installed an 802.11n router/modem combo for free?  Absolutely terrible.  I told him I want it in bridge mode because I don't want to use the wireless or the routing capabilities of the Actiontec.  He said I have to do that and people normally just call Best Buy to have the Geek Squad come out.  This really **bleep** me off as I used to run a network shop and configure Cisco routers and switches for a living.  Once again, I have spent the past 6 hours tonight on the phone with Verizon only to end up back where I started.
At this point, I need to make this Actiontec GT784WNV a dummy (bridge) and let my Asus Rt-N56U do the work on my network.  My Asus has all the port forwarding in place that I need for Xbox Live, etc.  I have tried releasing the IP, changing the modem to RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging, disabling DHCP, changing the LAN IP to 192.168.99.1, etc. and it just will NOT get an internet connection.  My router is configured correctly, unless there is something different between the Westell and the Actiontec that would require a setting change.  Verizon is stumped, Asus hasn't called me back yet, and I am ready to just switch to Cable unless someone can help with a solution.  I've been at this for a week.  I have spent WAYY too much time fighting with a company that has no desire to deliver or to follow through and with absolutely zero accountability or business sense.  Westell 7500 + Asus RT-N56U in old house worked fine.  Move houses, change modem, doesn't work, switch back to old modem, works but unstable, tech claims old modem is my problem, plugs in new modem, doesn't work.  I just want to use my router.  How hard can that be?  Can anyone please help?

Unfortunately that didn't work.  I ended up putting my router in the DMZ as a workaround but it still had it's share of issues.  After another week of trying to get Verizon to fix my connection (constant dropped connections forcing reboots of modem and router multiple times daily) I had Cable Internet installed today.  Went from an unstable 6Mb/s to a stable 30Mb/s with Cable.  I should have done this weeks ago.  I wasted over 50 hours of my time with Verizon bouncing my issue around to others hoping someone else would be willing to fix it.  Still no accountability with everyone tinkering with my setup taking a stab in the dark.  The last person I spoke with set up a technician to come to my house later this week...AGAIN because he said there is something wrong on the line.  I've known that for weeks but the tech that refused to fix my issue when he was in my house last week instead tried blaming it on something completely irrelevant because he had no clue what to do.  One would think someone from Verizon would have reached out to me from this thread but they did not.  In fact, the last tech's supervisor called me when i wasn't home, said "hello, this is XXX from Verizon......hello?"  and hung up.  Never a follow up as I was left once again to solve the problem myself.  Well...I did.  The incompetence of Verizon, it's poor training, and awful follow up procedures has cost them a customer. I am truly disappointed.

  • How do I configure my Airport Extreme to work in Bridge Mode and provide specific IP addresses to clients

My Airport Extreme is working with an Airport Express to wirelessly extend my wireless network.  Both Airports are configured in Bridge Mode per the instructions I found on Apple's support site.  I want to assign a specific DHCP address to a wireless camera that is in range of the Extreme, but I understand that the Extreme needs to be in DHCP Only mode to do this.  But if I change the mode to DHCP Only, the Extreme will lose contact with the Express.  How can I get both functions to work - wireless network extension and specific DHCP addresses?

Then what device is providing DHCP? Only once device per subnet should be the DHCP server. One should be DHCP and NAT and the other in Bridge mode for most home setups. The unit with DHCP and NAT should be the one connected to your cable or DSL and the other set in Bridge mode only extends your network.
On the wireless config page set whichever you're using to extend your network to "Extend a wireless network" and give it the details of the network to which you're attaching it.

  • Time Machine not working in Bridge mode

I have a AE6400 setup in bridge mode. The reason that it is in bridge mode is because I have my apple backup hardware on the other side and I believe having it in a Firewall mode would not allow this to work ( at least not easily). I have a client on the inside (Mac book Pro) and a WD Cloud Mirror on the outside. The Mac can see the standard shared folder that comes with WD.
However, the shared timeMachineBackup drive does not show in bridge mode. I thought that was the whole point of having a bridge mode?!! Am I missing something?
I have tried connecting the Mac directly to the other side (outside) of the Linksys, hence bypassing it, and every thing works like a charm. Is there a secret sauce here or am I missing this? Thanks

Is there a Wireless Bridge mode option listed there?

  • Wireless works in Bridge mode but refuses in Share a Public IP

This might seem like the easiest problem, but after searching the forum for ages I am still clueless.
I connect to the internet by plugging the ethernet cable straight into the wall. Living in a student flat connecting through the uni's network. MAC-address is not required to log on. In order to access the internet however, username and password is required at a greeting/log on page.
Things were working fine with multiple laptops and streaming iTunes, having the AE setup to share a public ip, until yesterday when iTunes could no longer find the AE. After resetting the AE (plug out, plug in) internet could no longer be accessed. The log on page can't be found, it just times out.
I've been trying a few different setups and the only one that works is using the AE in bridge mode. I want to have it set up to share a public IP but nothing seems to work. Although the router gets an IP assigned and so does the laptop (the AE seems to communicate with the uni network, and the laptop communicates with the AE) internet can't be accessed by the laptop.
Any ideas? If I missed providing some vital info please let me know!
    Thanks!

From your information, the main router at the school's network has been configured to only accept a certain type of connection. Bridge mode is the correct setting for the AirPort Express in this type of setup because you have another router (the school's router) ahead of your device.
Unless you can convince the IT guys there at the school to modify things to allow you to connect using "share a public IP address", I'm afraid there is nothing more than can be done.
In more technical terms, the school's router will not allow another device to handle DHCP on the network.
