X40 battery prblem

I needd a new battery for my x40. Since lenovo no longer sells these for this model I bought one from mobile tech ower. It is a China made model #LIBX40. I installed it and began charging it.It got up to 93% after a long while so I decided to drain it (not all the way) and charge it again. Well, now it wont charge. I let it charge over night and it stays at 3% (charging). Did I mess up the battery? Is the battery crap? Is there something wrong with my charger? Is there anybody in LA hwo can look at it? How can get answers to these questions? I don't have a lot fo money. I spent $90 on the new battery and now I'm filled with anxiety.

My latestattempt to get this new battery to charge involved me plling it out and letting it set for 5 hours and then putting it back in to charge over night. The next day, the light was still orange. So I left it charging when I went to work. When I came home the light was flashing orange. When I went to check the status, it was at 3% but no longer (charging).
I emailed the vendor of the battery (mobiletechpower.com)
Today they emailed me
I apologize for any inconvenience. What is your order number
I sent that along and now I'm waiting.
these are the various theories I have. If you can add anything let me know.
1. The battery is defective. NO physical damage as far as I can see. Looks new. Made in China Model LIBX40 Manufacturer. It has a warrenty. I'll send it back and see
2. My power supply is defective. It seems to work okay powering the laptop. I'll have to buy a new one to find out. If I gt a new power suplly and the same problem occurs maybe rule that out.
3. My computer is defective. How could I ever know this?
I really need to get this laptop portable in 2 weeks before I leave town.

  • X40 battery meter stuck

    My battery meter has stuck.
It is displayed in the toolbar, but it stays showing the same % remaining battery all the time.
When I switch off, or put it to sleep, and power back on again, it displays the correct battery level - but then sticks at that level.
It used to work perfectly well.  Does anyone have any hints about how to start it again?  I've tried rebooting, and I've tried reinstalling the power manager.

Hi rteather and welcome to the community,
What version are you running?  Your driver page shows version 5.05 but the ThinkVantage programs updates shows version 5.12.
Maybe you need a different version for it to work.  Your driver page also shows Battery Maximiser and and Power Manager features available for download.

  • X40 and new battery....again

    Hello,
I have aquite old x40 which have worked 100% pefect until now. I guess the battery is original, but to my luck it still have little charging capasity in it.
I bought from ebay new (China) battery, and it looked to work ok, except: it died alltough the gauge shows something betwen 65  to 75%. I have upgraded BIOS and Power Managemet s/w with no luck.
After several removings of battery and chargening between those two batteries the new on finally does not take any current anymore. The gauge shows 75%, but I think actually it does not have allmost anything current in it. The old one works perfectly well.
    What to do?

    lead_org wrote:
return the generic battery to the seller.
Probably that is the the right move. Definitely I won't buy genuine part for a machine which's value is roughly 40 eur or less. With new original battery it's value would rise for more than a double
I tired to google different wakeup seremonies (removing ACPi etc) but with no luck.

  • How to tell if a purchased battery is legit?

I bought an 8-cell battery for my x61s from what I thought was a reputable seller on Amazon. Now I am not 100% sure, as the data in the Lenovo Power software doesn't match what's on the box label or the battery itself. The battery & software seem to agree with each other except the software says the serial number is "175."  Hmm
Is there somebody I can find to verify legitimacy?

I would say you're right.  If that was a re-celled  battery, power manager would show two manufacturing dates and it only shows one.  The serial number matches and everything matches to the battery so I would say that you have a brand new battery from Lenovo.

  • X41 Weird Battery state

    Hi,
I have an X41, running XP. The battery status on this is weird. Here's what's happening:
The battery apparently has no charge - without the AC plugged in, the machine does not boot. When AC is removed when the machine is 'ON', it turns off. So far consistent with a dead battery.
Next, when I do turn the machine on with the battery in the slot, the machine boots. The Power Manager guage shows a constant charge of 42%. It neither increases, nor decreases. The baloon when the mouse points to this guage says:
    (42%) remaining
Then, I fire up the Power Manager, and go to the 'Battery Information' tab.
    Again, it shows:
    Remaining Battery: 42%
    Batteries installed: 1-main battery
Condition: Good (with a green battery)
The battery is in good condition.
At this point, I'm totally confused. I have checked the battery contacts, and the slot itself. All seem OK. I dont know what to believe. Do I have a dead battery? Or does it somehow have  a disconnect internally?
Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for responses.

i reinstalled lenovo's battery utility and opened it up to battery.  i ran the reset which is supposed to charge to 100 then discharge to 0 then charge to 100.  well it discharged just fine but wouldn't charge from 0.  so i put the battery in an x40 and charged it to 93. i have the utility set to charge at 96.  it said it was charging but the percentage remained the same.  i then put the battery back in the x40 and charged it to 100.  put it back in the x41 and ran the utility until it discharged to 90.  then i turned off the utility and turned it back on and it said it was charging but it wasn't.  i then called the co. that i got it from and me an tech support determined that the charging system on the board was bad.  there are no resets, no fuses to change the only thing i can do is change the motherboard so we agreed to exchange it for an x40 which they had.  i guess i'll go back to the old tried and true x40.   the funny thing about this whole thing is the green light indicator showed a battery, the utility showed a battery, it showed the voltage of the battery, the voltage of the charging system, the only thing that didn't show on the utility was the  time it was to take to charge it up to 100.

  • X41 (1866-ED5) Will charge battery but not run from it.

I haven't used this laptop for about 5 weeks.
I plugged it in it started charging from 27% up to 80% like normal.
Then it was slow to charge the next few percent. It got to about 83%
Then I unplugged it for a bit to move it.   It ran off the battery at this point.  I plugged it in again and it went up to 93% at a normal rate and stopped.
I went to move it again about an hour later and unplugged it and it lost power.
Now it will show the battery in windows but it will only start up and run if it has AC.
The battery report shows it's fine.  The battery is not very old and only shows 39 cycles.
    What should I try?

sounds like a bad battery. you could try running a cycle on it. let it discharge completely and then charge it up. see if there's any change. being that it didn't charge to 100% and it took a long time to get to 83% sounds like there's a problem with the battery.

  • Purchasing Third party battery

Anyone try or recommend buying third party battery? I don't need it but its a option for the future.
Here is an example of a battery
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/9-CELL-Battery-IBM-LENOVO-X200-X200s-X201-X201S-/200477548394?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Lap...
Sound too good to be true.

a lot of people on here will probably disagree with me but i buy everything on ebay.  you just have to pick the right seller.  the battery that you linked to.  the seller only has 243 feedbacks.  get your items from powersellers, the ones that have thousands of feedbacks and then go into the feedbacks and see what customers are saying about them.  i like ebay because the descriptions are usually very well detailed.  the descriptions on amazon are kinda sparce.  i've bought items on amazon that were clearly used. but the description doesn't say new or used.  so you have no recourse.  I have a service company and i have 2-x32s, 3-x41s, 1-x30, and 1-x40 that were all bought on ebay.  all the power adapters, wireless cards, batteries, ram chips, bluetooth chips, everything was bought on ebay and i haven't had any problems with anything. but, again, you have to do your homework.  don't just buy the first one you see, research the seller and the product.  i can buy 4 batteries on ebay for the price of one genuine.  if i get 1 year out of it all four will still last longer than 1 genuine.  and i've been getting 2 1/2 to 3 years use out of 1 battery.  and i don't do anything to prolong the life of batteries, i just use them.  ebay has come a long way from the old days, if a seller gets too many negative feedbacks, ebay will now yank their account.  or take away their selling discounts. so sellers now have to watch their Ps and Qs.  so it's a lot safer to buy something on ebay than it used to be.

  • IdeaPad V570 'Best battery health'

On the energy management panel under the option for "Best battery health," it says this setting will limit charge capacity to 0-45% or 0-50%. Is there any way to raise this limit above 50%? I'd ideally like to limit the charge to about 80%.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi Peano and welcome to the community,
Limiting the charge to 50% has been shown to give the battery its longest life.  Older versions kept the charge at 80%.
The only way to keep the charge at 80% using your version would be to change the setting to runtime and charging the battery to 80%, then changing the setting back to best battery health.  Your battery will lose its charge gradually.
    Probably about 1% a day.
Older versions might or might not work with your machine.  If you do decide to experiment, uninstall your current version first before you install a new one.  Also keep in mind that the Hotkeys utility is incorporated into the Energy Management.
Another version might make things work funny.

Is it possible to buy listed parts? Will everything be working fine?
    Best regards,

I would put a wanted to buy ad on the marketplace over there.  I would trust the sellers and the recommendations of the members there first rather than experiment with suppliers.  Most of them will ship worldwide or will know of suppliers who will.

  • X200 new battery question

    Hi,
I just bought a new thinkpad x200 (non tablet), and because I received an empty battery (0 %). I read in the official website, that I need to first recharge it till 12 hours. I have done this, and when I first turned it on, I find quite some inconsistency with the battery.
    1. It stays in 99% although I plugged into AC
    2. It is said that i should have a power of 4 hours battery, but here what I see is 98% for 2:56
Does this is a normal behaviour , or is there something wrong with this new battery? Thank you for the helps

new batteries also need to be calibrated, that's probably why it's reading 99%. there should be an option in power manager where you can calibrate your battery. i don't use power manager but i'll bet lead_ord knows the correct procedure.

  • Is my battery duplicate ?

I have Lenovo G570 laptop (brought very recently). So, today Windows 7 showed an update notification for Energy Management Driver (l1egc02us24.exe - Energy Cut 2.0).
I installed it and was working fine. But after rebooting, the software is showing a notification mentioning that my battery is not original one.
This is the information about the battery showed in EnergyCut2.0
    Battery Name: PABAS024
    Unique ID: 3658QCOMPAL
    Chemistry: LION
    Power state : Discharging..
    Manufacturer: COMAPL
I dont understand why its showing this message only after the update..

    Hi suryak,
What version of Energy Management do you have in there now?  You should have version 6.0.3.0.
One problem with Windows optional updates is that it will show the latest version.  That version might or might not be compatible with the system it is installed on.
I experimented with various versions of Energy Management on a U160 and most of the later versions said that I had an illegal battery.  So, I installed the version that the driver site said I should have and everything was fine again.
If you find that you have a later version   of Energy Management installed, then uninstall it and install the correct version from here .  That will give you the correct version for your machine and that battery error should disappear.

  • Battery or power cord?

    Hi there!
Today is a great day: I got my brand new X220 laptop!
I want to keep this machine for as long as possible. Therefore I have the following question: should I run on batter power as much as possible (charge, discharge, charge, discharge, ...) or is it better to have to power cord plugged in as much as possible? Which is better for the battery?
    Thank you very much!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Launch Power Manager.  Then click Battery, then Battery Maintenance, the next window that comes up there's a button for optimize for battery lifespan.
Or, you can click custom and change your battery thresholds manually.  I have mine to start charging at 50% and stop charging at 80%. Keeping a battery at 100% will decrease its life.

  • Battery question? 3000 N100

I just received a suposivly new battery I purchased off Ebay . I just happened to think about shaking it a bit and something is side makes noise like clattering around. Is it broke ?
My other extended battery in my other 3000 does not make clattering noise.
I charged it fully from 78% to 100% and am now testing to see how long the battery last.

I think once or twice should be enough.
If you don't like Lenovo's Power Manager, you could install something like this .  It has a battery tab which will show the full charge capacity and the designed capacity.  If there's a big difference between the two, then you should probably calibrate the battery by installing Lenovo Power Manager.
At least just to calibrate it.  You could always uninstall it when you're done.

outlet site or the normal site? It should be alright, most of the battery of that series are getting pretty old, as Lenovo have stopped using these batteries in the current Thinkpads.
It should be alright if it is stored properly with right amount of charge. Ideally you should get a freshly made battery, but i don't think it would happen for older Thinkpad batteries.
Boston Power also offer batteries for your laptop, which comes with 3 years warranty, so in the future you could use them as a backup source if you ever having problem finding new ones.
