Problem Installing HP Officejet J4580 Full Feature Software and Driver
Hallo !
I recently installed a new 2T harddrive and performed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my e-Machine Model ET-1331-g-05w. The clean install of Windows 7, installation of the e-Machine drivers, und 325+ Microsoft Updates was successful. The System is running fine and protected by Kaspersky 2015 Internet Security. Please note this WAS NOT an OS upgrade from Vista to Win7 - just a clean-install of the original Win7 64-bit OS.
After creating an ISO and Full Backup(nothing else has been installed at this point) I wan't to re-install my HP Officejet J4580 All-in-one. I have the original CD but I know that it can only be used on an XP or Vista OS - so I went to the www3.hp.Offical HP Drivers and Support downloaded the Product Installation Software for:
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
File: OJJ4500_FULL_13.exe
Released: 2014-09-03
Version: 13.0.0
My printer wasn't connected via USB - the install ran for about 30 and when I asked to connect the USB cable the splash screen told me it was finishing the install but then it failed with a message unable to located J4580 Drivers. The install that place the Solution Center, HP Document Manager, and HP Photosmart ICON's on my Desktop - when I opened the Solution Center - it said that it couldn't communicate to the printer. The printer and USB cable work fine on my Vista Desktop, my Vista Business Notbook. and my IBM X40 running WP SP3.
I've also tried running:
1) HP Update Software Utility - hpsetup.exe
2) Hp Print and Scan Doctor - HPPSdr.exe
3) HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility - OJJ4500_Scrubber_13.exe
but the 2nd attempt to re-install failed too.
I then reloaded my clean ISO - and tried the Product Installation Software for the Basic Drivers
HP Officejet Basic Print and Scan Driver
File: OJJ4500_Basic_13.exe
Released: 2014-09-03
Version: 13.0.0
The Basic Drivers worked fine -but I need the Full Driver. I double checked and the WIN 7 64-bit is shown as a supported OS for the Full Driver - any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile installing XP virtual machine and installing the Full Drivers in VM. If I go that route - it creates other issues such as sync'n file from 64-bit to VM, then switching back & forth between VM to process other work, and then the issue of having to scan in VM then sync the folder to 64-bit side.
My System Info is:

tjHello @Tom_Ma,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with installing your HP Officejet J4580 All-in-One Printer on your Windows 7 computer. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps you have already attempted and your Operating System details in your post. At this point I am going to run you through some additional troubleshooting steps to get this Officejet successfully installed with the Full Feature driver. Please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers:
It is important that we have a nice clean slate to work with for troubleshooting. Therefore, I am going to have you uninstall the existing software on your computer.
Click on your Start menu
Select All Programs
Select the HP folder
Select your HP Officejet
Select Uninstall
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall of your printer. Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Clear Temp Files:
Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start after you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboard
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
Step 3: Unlock System Administrator Account:
There is the potential that there is something within your User Account that may be blocking the drivers from installing properly. Therefore, I am going to have you unlock the hidden System Administrator Account and install your device under there. Then, when you log back into your normal User Account the printer and all Full Feature software should be installed and functional for you. If all goes well, we we 'hide' the System Administrator Account once troubleshooting is complete.
Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD
CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'
Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter
Next, close CMD and restart your computer
When your computer comes on log into the new account that should show. It will be called Administrator and will not have a password on it.
If your computer automatically logs into your account after restart than go to your start menu click the arrow beside 'shutdown' and choose 'switch user'. Now log into the Administrator account we just unlocked
Under the Administrator account download and install the drivers: HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
Please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of your printer
Once the installation is complete, please test printing and scanning to confirm that everything is now working properly.
If everything installs fine, log out of this account and back into your normal User Account. All the Software and Drivers for your product should show installed now on your account.
Under your User Account please test printing and scanning again to confirm that everything is still working.
If everything works fine, you will want to Hide the Administrator account.
Step 4: Hide System Administrator Account:
Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD
CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'
Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:no and hit enter
Next, close CMD and restart your computer
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!

(SOLVED) Can't Connect Wiimote after Windows 7 64-bit install (T61p)
Hello. I have a T61p that originally had Vista 32-bit on it. I used to use my Wiimote as a gamepad, I'd just have to press the sync button and it would work with the computer. Since I installed Windows 7 64-bit though, it won't. I've turned the Bluetooth adapter on and off with Fn-F5 several times.
I tried BlueSoliel and it worked yesterday but not today. Also it is an evaluation copy, and I do not plan on buying the full product.
edit: okay I uninstalled BlueSoliel and installed the 64 bit Vista driver and I can connect the Wiimote to the computer, however, it won't register any buttons being pressed, and when I go the the Game Controller Test screen it is empty.
edit2: I forgot you need to use GlovePIE. Seems to be working fine now. Sorry for wasting anyone's time.No problem, thanks for posting your fix.

Windows 7 Only Cancel Button at Clt+Alt+Del After 6500 Driver is Installed
Hi,
We have a fleet of X201 Tablet Laptops and We use the HP Officejet 6500 Printer.
As soon as version 14.00 of the driver is installed on these machines upon restart rather than a username to click onto to login at Clt+Alt+Del a cancel button is displayed.
The only work around we have found is to rebuild the laptop and then install an earlier version of the 6500 driver.
What is causing this and how do we fix it as some users are installing the latest driver themselfs and breaking the laptops. The same thing is happening all over the hp forums. People are updating printer drivers and then the printer doesn't work. Or some functions are taken away. I have an hp 4280 printer and I'm still using the driver from when I first installed it. Every time hp wants to update, I say no. Mine still works perfect. There have been 4 updated drivers since my version.
It's not Lenovo and it's not your machine. It's hp's buggy drivers.

X40 POP/SVP problem after loading bios defaults
Hello
I have recently bought a second hand IBM X40 (2372-PG2) laptop in good condition and have worked with it happily until a couple of days ago. I booted to an existing installation of WXP and proceeded on to update the Embedded Controller Program and BIOS and then install Arch Linux.
I had disabled some features I don't use in the BIOS such as bluetooth and set a power-on password and a supervisor password. The passwords for both are exactly the same, containing upper & lowercase letters and numbers and being 8 characters long.
I then went on to set BIOS to default settings by using the F9-key on the BIOS menu, rebooted and haven't been able to boot or enter BIOS again as the password is not accepted.
I have done some research on the subject and haven't yet seen a similar thing happen to anyone - however, i did find this recent thread which deals with the same problem but with the HDP (Hard Disk Password).
All input is appreciated. To me this appears to be a rare bug.
edit: is it possible that this is a "custom" laptop made for a company that has certain default passwords?
Message Edited by tpx40 on 02-06-2009 12:08 AMHello and welcome,
What error, exactly? What operating system? Is it a Lenovo install or from Microsoft media?
Total WAG: you need to go back to BIOS and set the SATA mode to "compatibility" or "IDE emulation" or whatever it's called in that machine's BIOS.

Download drivers for another pc, but firefox will only install them
I am trying to download drivers for a new (used) pc I obtained. When I try to download the proper driver, The only option available to me is to install. There is no question of do I want to save, only to install. Is there a setting to overcome this?
Hi bussoboy,
Adding to sarbin's instructions, you should probably run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from MS . That will show you what is compatible and what is not.

Unable to update BIOS or Embedded Controller Program on X40
Hi,
I have an IBM Thinkpad X40 laptop. I currently have BIOS version 1.43 and Embedded Controller Version 1.32. I am trying to upgrade both of these separately using the following programs:
BIOS update (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad X40
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-53881
Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad X40
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-53882
I download and run them, go through the 4 step wizard and then the machine reboots. The problem is that it doesn't update the BIOS or the ECP but it also doesn't tell me why or even tell me that it's failed.
Has anyone experienced this issue or know what causes this? I am unable to do this via a diskette because I don't have a floppy drive on this model.
Solved!
Go to Solution.OK, I've fixed this now.
I had Kaspersky Internet Security installed and had disabled it manually but it was obvisouly still blocking fundamental system changes like these. I uninstalled KIS completely and then ran these updates again and all worked fine. -
Trouble installing Windows XP on X201
I am trying to install Windows XP on a thinkpad X201, Machine type 3249-CTO and after booting up with the Windows XP installation disc, I get the error:
i386/ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded
Error code 7
Has anybody else had this problem and has anybody found a fix for this yet.
Edit: System has 4GB memory. I read that 32bit OS will not read more than 4GB, or even report 3.5 due to how the memory system works, however I haven't heard of an install not working at all under these conditions. I'm installing the 64bit version and it's working, however, I would like to get the 32bit working if possible.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318729
either the bios settings are wrong or you have a faulty ram chip.

Audio Driver for X40 Windows 7?
I have Windows 7 installed on my x40, it works well besides the audio not working, Ive tried troubleshooting the device, installing the xp driver, and nothing. The Lenovo website has a Vista driver but it says "Included with Operating System" It does not have a link where I can download this file.
Windows update gave me mine. Go into control panel, windows update, check the optional updates. There should be an audio driver in there.
What does it show in device manager? Any unknown devices? Not there at all? If it's in there with no yellow tag on it, you might have to uninstall it to get a new driver to install.

X220 Clean Install: It is time.
I've had an X220 for three years now running essentially the original factory install, which I restored from the built-in back up onto an mSATA SSD (80GB Intel 310) and then imaged over to a replacement (256GB Plextor M5M) last year. I'd like to now do a clean install without losing my existing Lenovo Windows 7 Professional license. There was a sticky, or something, about how to do this, but the link inside led to an IBM-hosted site that no longer exists. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
BTW - I do, in fact, have the original Lenovo backup discs somewhere, however, I'd like to do a clean Win7 installation and then add drivers and software as needed, to get rid of the cruft and ensure the best possible performance on my SSD (which is admittedly limited by the SATAII speeds of the mSATA port).Hi alanbrenton,
Did you put this one in there.
This has to go with the Hotkeys and Power Manager.

X40: Can't get WLAN / "Ethernetcontroller" driver to work
Hi, I experince problems with the the wireless network driver. After formating the hard drive and installing XP with SP3 a lot of drivers were missing. Now I have the most of them installed after following the two step installation. But one is missing.
The wireless network still doesn't work and in the device manager it appears that an "Ethernet-controller" isn't working.
I have tried to install the wireless drivers for X40. Can anyone help me?TLDane, welcome to the forum,

I have an IBM X40 with a failed HDD and no way to hook up a cd drive, i was just wondering if there would be some way for me to install windows onto a flash drive and have the laptop boot from the flash drive, yes the bios does support booting from a flashdrive and i know how to make it boot from a flashdrive, so really i am asking whether i can install windows onto a flashdrive. I have heard of it being done but i have had no success with doing it myself, also i don't care that it would be unbearable slow and i would be installing windows XP Pro. I have a 4gb flashdrive.
you would be much better off buying a cheap external drive at walmart or kmart or best buy or staples or whatever dept. store you have around. i assume you have access to another computer to copy the flash drive, right? what i'm getting at is you will have to reinstall all the drivers anyway and doing that with a flash drive will be lots of fun. you should download all the drivers on disk first. the cd will attach by your usb port. they are cheap nowadays. i guess i'm assuming that your usb ports work though. if they don't you can get an adapter card that plugs into the pc slot that has usb ports in it although they will only be 1.1 ports. the ports on your machine are 2.0. i cloned a hard drive once through a 1.1 port and it took 6 hours. it takes 20 min. through a 2.0 port.

X40 Win Xp Core Dump - No CDROM -How do I even hook a cd to this machine?
Hi,
Win XP dumps core with some registry corruption error right before the OS completes loading. This X40 has no CD ROM so all this talk (in other forum messages) about Restore CD's is a bit confusing... First off. How would I get the boot loader to even see an external CD ROM?. If I had a CDROM I would proably try to repair windows first (XP PRO). IF that didnt work then I would also consider getting restore CDs to get it back to its ideal state. Any suggestions from any crazy lenovo experts out there? My original thought was to pull the drive and stick it in a desktop PC for data recovery and a re-install of XP. However, sounds like there are proprietary form factor issues there so a regular laptop to ide converter might not work - I havent opened the laptop yet and would just assume avoid if possible.
Thanks
Scootarskiwhen you first turn on the computer the ibm logo comes up. push f12 at that screen and it will show you the boot device list. if you have your cd rom hooked up it should show it in the list.at the bottom of the list it shows startup. if you hit that it goes into bios and then you can choose startup and at the top of the next page it shows boot. choose it and it will give you a list of what you can boot up with. read the instructions on the right and move usb cd to the top of the list. good luck
