X48C board from HELL can't flash bios -- board freezes on post -- help!

I am a pc builder who follows the sheep. I don't push limits or overclock.
Bought an x48C Platinum board because of its superb features. Shipped from Cali to Florida.
Resurrected an older case replaced old power supply with new 750w power supply - expensive - quiet and has the advanced board connectors (8 and 24 pin) Runs almost silently.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3ghz)
Video: Asus Nvidia geforce 8600 card
RAM: SuperTalent, high quality dual channel ram, 2x 1mb  for 1333 bus
Inserted the ram (as shown in manual) and added turbo cards...
Discconneted everything else inside the case. Just wanted to post to the bios.
Power On
1- system light ups, fan on CPU starts for two seconds -- then everything STOPS
2- a few seconds later, system awakens and starts again
3- system freezes on Microstar logo screen post
4- Turbo cards never light up
(sometimes the system quits and reboots -- forever -- or until I shut it down)
Read the support threads and saw my problem was NOT unique. Tried these variations.
One RAM mod - with and without turbo.
Tried usb mouse and keyboard - instead of ps2.
If I hit the TAB key the very moment I boot, I can see that my post will switch to dos -- and goes as far as identifying my ram, the cpu -- and a message about engaging the USB ports -- and that is where it freezes... or.. sometimes starts its reboot.
Thought it was the RAM --
Replaced Supertalent RAM with Kingston RAM -- that the configurator on their web site recommended for this specific board.
Still, same issue.
Tried downloading the flash drive bios solution. System freezes before the usb drive can engage. So, no, I cannot flash the bios.
I'm thinking MSI knows about the problem -- because the board has fallen 80 dollars in price and other competitor boards with the x48 chipset is still higher priced.
Any ideas other than calling Tech Support and chewing their ears off?

You can find the official CPU Support Liste here:
http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1393&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
It should show all the information you need.
If you want to go for a cheap processor just to update the BIOS, look for a supported Celeron processor (Celeron 420 / Conroe-L for example).
In case you have an internal floppy drive laying around, you can also try to force a BIOS Flash via the AMI BIOS Recovery Procedure:
http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_AMI_Recovery.asp
That does not work in all cases and not with all floppy drives.

  • How can i flash bios without floppy drive

i need help with flashing bios without a floppy because although the floppy is in windows and the bios every time i try to use it, it says to insert a disc i have seek floopy enabled and it post as if it is ok the drive works i have tried 2 drives 2 cables and turned the cables round tried all i can i think lol ....
    thanks guys

it can also be done using a CD-rom. I flashed my BIOS twice using cd-rom. Use Nero or any cd-writing program to write the bios files you download to a CD. Afterwards, just use the Windows 98 installation cd to boot into DOS, then take out the Windows 98 CD and put in the CD with the BIOS files on it and run the program just like from a floppy.

  • Can I flash BIOS with 5.6?

    Hi!
I've been running my KT3-Utra2 for a year with a XP1700+ an BIOS 5.5 and 5.6. Two weeks ago I upgraded to a XP2500+ Barton, before I installed that CPU I flashed the BIOS with 5.7. Well now I have alot of problems with the stability og my computer... So can I flash back to 5.6? Does 5.6 support 2500+ (Barton)?
I've sold my 1700+ so unfortunatly I can not use this if 5.6 doesn't support my CPU.
Hope someone can answer my question.
    Regards
    Anders

Well, that was my question in the first place.
In order to flash it I have to put the CPU in, turn on teh computer and then flash it. If the CPU won't work on the mobo until I flash it, how can I flash it?
I hope I'm not missing something, here.

  • Can't flash bios on DV6000 (DV6408nr) laptop.

    Hi all,
I downloaded the current bios update from the HP site. When i try to flash the bios, the utility finishes all the steps then just sits on the last item > Flashing Bios and never really updates the bios. I waited almost 20 minutes then I just pulled the power plug and luckly, the computer rebooted.
Has anyone seen this problem before?

    As a note, I'm running Windows 7 x64.
I'm trying to update to bios F.42 from F.3D.

  • Can't flash kernel in nokia n900, please help.

My nokia N900 has suddenly has gone into weired loop of showing error message>>rebooting>>again error meesage...
message says "can't flash kernels, required files not found
    Guru Meditation #00000025.62017712"
I tried flashing and downloaded "Flasher", "WinFlasher_3.12.1.exe", since I've windows 7 in 32 bit operating system.
It opens properly, but after i give first command "flasher-3.5.exe -F pr1.2.bin -f". It shows prompt command and says nothing about detecting, as lot of post refers to.
Please someone help me on this.

First, Thanks a lot for replying.
Second, I'm not very familiar with linux. I followed the instructions posted by ceroberts75 as sticky at the first page.
    1. Download the Flasher
    2. Download the latest firmware image for your N900  (you will need your IMEI of the device)
    3. when you save the global variant of the firmware to the "flasher-3.5" folder, save it as "pr1.2.bin"
    4.  When you save the vanilla file of the firmware to the "flasher-3.5" folder, save it as "vanilla.bin"
    5.  Turn your phone off
    6.  launch the flasher-3.5 program
    7.  type this command:   flasher-3.5.exe -F pr1.2.bin -f
it will then scroll a bunch of gibberish and then say it is looking for a unit.
    8.  with the phone still off, hold slide the kb open and hold the "U" button while you connect the usb cable to the phone.  continue holding the "U" until you see the faint "NOKIA" logo and/or the USB connection symbol in the top right.  The flasher will find the device and automatically flash the unit to the original rom
    9.  after about 1.5 minutes, it will be complete.  DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR UNIT!
    10.  type this command:   flasher-3.5.exe -F vanilla.bin -f -R
    11.  now it should reflash the device and wipe the emmc clean of EVERYTHING.  after it reboots, you can disconnect it.
My problem starts after step 7. It doesn't scrolls any thing nor it says its looking for the unit. It keeps going back to prompt command.
I hope somebody can tell me what mistake I'm doing.
    Thanks.

  • Max supported cpu by K7N420 Pro? & can I flash bios with a CDR?

And, does anyone know if I can flash a bios onto a board using a cd writer? Has anyone tried? And do you have to do anything special or just write the programming software and bios to cd (just like floppy) and just boot to dos using windows ME startup disk to use commands to open and program bios?
    Thank you,

    Thank you,
In theory, you should be able to create a bootable CD, boot from your writer, and never use a floppy at all. TO be safe (since you never know about DOS one-size-fits-all drivers like the Oak Tech ones in common use) you could boot from the CD, then copy all the BIOS related files to the ram drive and do it from there. Since the ram drive method is the recommended one with NTFS systems it should work perfectly.

  • Can't Flash Bios on new Neo2-FISR2 . . . Says can't erase.

The subject says it all. I can't update to the latest bios. Every time try, the bios update utility says it can't erase the boot block. The windows program says the same thing. It's a good thing I had a recovery disk and an extra stick of memory lying around or I would be out of luck. The reason I say that is that I have 2 sticks of Corsair 3200LLPT Ultra Low Latency memory. They won't boot when the cmos is cleared. The timings are too tight. I have to manually set them. From then on, no matter what I've set them to, they are 2.5-4-4-8. The motherboard does it's own thing with the memory.
Question: Is my bios bad. It looks like I'm stuck with 1.3 forever . . .
    Mark ?(

No. Read all I wrote initially. I've tried everything. Everytime I clear the board I can't boot, nothing unless I take the Corsair out and put in a stick of Samsumg. Contrary to what the manual says, the insert key doesn't work. Clearing the Cmos doesn't do a thing unless I power down again and change memory and manually set timings. I followed the instructions to the letter and booted to dos, then tried to flash from a directory on my C: drive. I also used a Windows Based Utility, Live Bios. Nothing can erase. I only gets to 87%. It tries a few times without success. I then have to pull my computer apart again and go through the above. A couple of times I didn't think she would come back to life.
I think the bios chip may be defective. The thing appears to be soldered in. You can't just change it out.

  • Can't Flash Bios on P43-C51 Mainboard

Specs: Intel Quad Core 2.5 ghz overclocked to 3ghz
    4gig memory
    500gb 7200rpm Hd
    Nvidia GTX 460 gpu
    Bios Version 5.4
Hi. I am having trouble updating my bios. I have used the MSI HQ USB Flash too b. 1.9 and it does not work. All it does is freeze when I attempt to boot from usb, (black screen, moving cursor, thats it), I have also attempted to use Hp usb dos boot files and no results. Note that I tried formatting the usb stick with windows and HP formatting tool and it still does not work. This is not the first time I have flashed a Bios so I feel that i'm not a novice with this kind of stuff., but in this case, i'm lost. Nothing seems to work. Out of all Motherboards I have ever encountered I always seem to have the most problems with MSI OEM boards. I am really considering switching to a different manufacturer! Please help!

have you tried to use "fix my usb key" tool's option 1st?[before prepare the stick]

  • Can't flash bios on KT3 Ultra2

I am putting together a new system and I have an athlon 2400+ cpu.  I want to flash to bios 5.6 before I install windows xp.  When I run the flash utility it tells me that my chipset is not supported.  And I may have bios flash protection turned on.  I cant find any bios protection in the bios.  I am trying this using a windows 98 boot disk and the ram drive flash.

Thanks for the reply.  I wanted to get it flashed before I installed windows since I was doing a clean install.
I got it to work.  I downloaded the bios again from a different spot on MSI 's sight and that one worked perfectly.  I now have Windows XP up and runing and stable.  So far no problems at all. :D

  • Do I need to buy the development board from Phytec or would any LPC229x board do the job?

    Hi,
I am planning to test LabView embedded on an LPC2294 development board.
Should I buy the PhyCore development board for LPC2294 or would any other LPC2294 development board do the job?
I have seen a huge difference in price  between the PhyCore LPC229x development board and a standard LPC2294 from other parties. However, the other party's development board seems to have more features than the one from the PhyCore development board.
Please, let me know your advice and recommendations.
    Thank you
    Kolemale

    Hi,
The example target in the LabVIEW Microprocessor SDK is designed specifically for the Phytec LPC2294 development board, so it would be easiest to start there. You can certainly modify the example target implementation to fit your needs for alternate development boards (in fact, that's the idea!).

    Perform SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Flash Bios Update 1.60 Posted 9/21/09

Get it while it's still hot and fresh.

This one is a minor upgrade. 1.50 was the major change. I assume that 1.60 includes all of the improvements that were in 1.50 since 1.50 is no longer available.

  • Flash cs5 interface freeze! please help!

Other data, im not the only one with this issue... and everithing happen in mac...
Sorry my english, im from argetina.
I hope somebody help me with any suggestion or solution.
    Regards

I don't know the specs of your computer (and I'm a PC guy, not a Mac guy), but it might be that Flash CS5 is too much for your computer to run effectively. Maybe I'm wrong, but try this: Download and install the trial for an older Flash Professional program, like CS4 or 3 (which might be easier for your computer to run) and see if that makes any difference.
This is just a guess, I'm not sure what the deal really is. But one thing is certain - this is a computer-related issue, and most likely not a Flash issue. Also check that your computer meets the minimum requirements, and has plenty of free hard drive space.
