X48C - Problems

Hi all,
I hope someone can help, I bought this board because it does DDR3 and has IDE connectors. I returned the first one becuase it wouldn't do anything and got a replacement. After too many hours to count i got it to where i coudl amost load windows 7.
It took 15 hours to load it on a new 1TB drive, and ofcourse the only way to get past the bios without continous resetting of the power is to set it to failsafe defaults. When it's set that way it goes to the first part of finishing windows installation(After the first reboot). now i can get it to come up and it only goes as far as "windows cannot finish the installation due to improper shutdown, windows is rebooting your system. That's all it will do, reboot and go to that window telling me it needs to reboot. rinse and repeat.
The bios version is 1.1.1.6 i think + or - a 1. i can't set it to boot from the dvd or it goes into the power on power off mode eternally. so i looked at flashing the bios and was reading that the system has to be able to run windows for 3 days before flashing, but i cant finish windows due to the bios needing to be updated.
Is there any way to flash the bios at this point or just return the board and get something else?
Thanks for any help.
Faf
Thanks for the reply i tried to edit the post and add specs but it wouldn't let me.

That is definately not your BIOS Version.  Check your BIOS Version in BIOS Setup under STANDARD CMOS FEATURES//SYSTEM INFORMATION.

Leave the BIOS alone for now.

  • Another X48C problem, yet again

I read some threads and found that some are having same problem as me, however, my problem is slightly different.

The problem actually started a few wweeks ago when everything, including the mouse, hangs. However a few weeks ago this problem can be solved by a rebooting
Yesterday when i rebooted, the fan turns on and off, sometimes it spinturn for merely a second, or it will spin at a very fast speed then slow down, and then turns itself off again
I tried reseting the cmos a few times(i duno why). I did get into bios and optimised default settings, it hangs after my windows vista loading bar, after another restart it gets into windows, but hangs.
Now when i push the power button, it just spins for a sec, or for a long time, before offing itself.
I took out my ram and gpu and put them back again, but still having the same problem
Is the board dead? anyway to get it to start? i need to use it for more 'demanding work applications'
ADD ON: I cannnot get into bios, i have seen replies of booting from usb, but i cannot get into bios to set 'boot from removable'
    Thanks in advance

Try switch off Alimentation cable few minuts (2-3) Do clear CMOS 30sec try again if it don't boot can be damaged bios

  • MSI X48C Platinum - Graphic card identification problem

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for a long time which I still haven't been able to solve.
When I plug my graphics card to the PCI-E slot 1 (Slot closest to the cpu) I get nothing on my monitor. I have to plug it on to the  PCI-E slot 2 (PCI-E 4) to get anything on the monitor. I am running Windows 7 (64bit) Professional.
With this configuration (That is, the graphics card being installed in slot PCI-E4) I am getting a lot of blue screen failures due to  graphics card being non-responsive, especially when running graphic intensive programmes.
Here are the details of my PC configuration.
Motherboard - MSI X48C Platinum (MSI MS 7353)
    RAM  - 6GB DDR3
    Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300  -  2500Mz
    BOIS - Version 7.4V
    Graphics card - Hightech Radeon HD4870  1GB DDR5
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Cris

    Hi go_for,
    Thanks for the reply.
I am using a Aerocool 750W  (model VP-750)power suppy and the graphics card is connected with 2 PCI-E power connectors from the power supply.
The problem is that it runs on the other pci-e slot not the first one. Could the first slot be defective?
    Thanks

  • MSI x48c PLatinum and Intel E8600 Problem

    Hello, I'm from Greece
    My computer Setup is:
Mobo: MSI X48C Platinum (bios version 7.0)
CPU: INTEL CORE 2 DUO E8600
    PSU: HEROLCHI 525 Watt
    RAM: OCZ OCZ3SOE10664GK DDR3 4GB (2x2GB)
    VGA: Albatron 8800 GTS
    HDD: WD 300GB SATA
    The problem is:
I bought them yesterday because i want to upgrade my system.
I connect them all properly in my case and after i turn the PC on it freeze in the MSI logo screen and cant even enter BIOS Setup.
The first time i turned the power on a message like: "Your previous overclockinn atempt was not succssefull. Press a button except del to load defaults and continue." i do what it said and freeze after that message.
This just the first time, the other times it just freeze on the logo screen. Some times it beeps one time and reset by his own and sometimes beeps four times and then reset. The most of the times it just freezes in the logo screen.
I took everything off and reinstall them. Nothing Happen.
I tried with one dimm of RAM each time in deferent positions. Nothing Happen.
I did o clear CMOS from the back button. Nothing Happen.
I perform a clear CMOS with the old method (unplug power, remove battery, wait for a couple o minutes). Nothing Happens.
I believe the problem is with the bios version i have and the CPU compatibility. I look at www.msi.com.tw and it said that this board its compatible with the INTEL E8600 but only at the 7.2 version.
How will i update my bios if my computer doesnt even enter bios setup?
Please help me. any suggestion. I'm losing my mind here!
    Thanks you in advance.

the only thing i can suggest is to drop in a 7.0 compatible CPU (if you can) and flash the BIOS to 7.2 that way then switch back in your new CPU.  A painful process, I know ...  Alternatively, if your retailer is friendly they might set it up on a test bench for you and flash it.
    Andrew
Like Andrew mentioned, this is the only way out though it is a long painful process.
The other is to get a board that is compatible to the E8600 right out of the box.

  • MSI x48c platinum bios? ram? problem

I bought myself the following system (all brand new/ 1 month old):
    mobo:

    CPU:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16Ghz FSB1333
    GFX:
    Asus HD4870DK 1GB
    problem:
sometimes it does not boot at all, it just starts up and no screen displays, then after 5 seconds it shuts down and starts up again.
when this happens I power down the pc and push the reset button on the back of the motherboard.
It then starts up and there is display on the screen but then it gives the message: CMOS Settings Wrong, CMOS Date/Time Not Set, Press F1 to Run Setup Press F2 to load default values and continue
When I press F2 it boots into windows and the cpu runs fullspeed but the time is wrong and when I shut down again it starts up with no screen display and shuts down in 5 secs and follow the same process.
I have updated my bios to v7.3 since I did read through the forum and saw that there were other people that had almost the same problem like me, but I did it through Windows Live Update, and now everytime I do a bios update through live update it says that there is a newer version available (7.30), but I allready flashed it before with the same version it found on the update.
is there any settings that would help to stable my system with my current components or is something else the matter?
I have tried changing settings myself in the bios but everytime I do change something it does not work at all or the cpu runs at half speed in windows (1.58GHz)
    Thanks in advance

  • MSI X48C Platinum Windows boot problem

    Hi,
I tested the MSI X48c Platinum motherboard with windows xp Pro 64 bit, Windows 7 RC1 and Windows 7 Retail, all of them share the same problem so it has to be caused by hardware.
When I boot up at the logo of windows it freezes, when I reboot and chose to start the operating system normally it runs through. This freezing up seems to be random, sometimes when I power my machine it runs through it with no problem.

    For testing only:
    - use only one memory stick and one DDR2 Switch Card
    - reduce the memory frequency to DDR2-667 in BIOS Setup and set the Memory Voltage to 1.9V
    - disable Spread Spectrum
See if that changes anything.  If it does, we have reasons to look for a memory problem
I run 64 bit operating system running it with only 2gb is not a problem? (i'm testing boot so gues not?).
memory frequency , voltage and Spread Spectrum should be all set or test them individually?

I have disabled Spread Spectrum and rebooted 12 times and all went good, have to test still with complete power down and boot to see if that works

  • MSI X48c Platinum boot problem

    Hi,
I recently bought a X48c Platinum and it was working fine for the last 3 weeks, but when tried to turn on my computer this morning, it failed.  (I did not change anything in my configuration.)
The power led turns on and the HDD led blinks at a fixed interval.
All the fans start and keep going at full speed.
After a while the computer turns itself of and goes into a "reboot" loop, it turns on for half a second and shuts down again and repeats this every 5 seconds.
At the moment the only thing installed on the motherboard is the CPU (and the PSU connections) and it's still not working.
Is this a known problem, has anyone ever had the same problem, or is my motherboard just dead?

I went back to the store and got a new motherboard, after I got back it still wasn't working.
Bought a new PSU and it's working again, my motherboard, PSU and DVD drive were all broken
Probably a power surge or something.
Anyway, thought I'd post how I "fixed" the problem

Manually set the memory clock speed to DDR3-1066 for testing and see what happens.

  • Problem Boot MSI X48C Platinum

    Good evening,
Sorry for my not perfect english. I have a big problem, please help me .
I have assembled my new pc with these components:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
    Ram: Corsair XMS3 2x2GB kit PC3-10666 1333Mhz DD3
    MotherBoard: MSI X48C Platinum
    Video Card: Gainward HD4870X2 2Gb DDR5
    HD: 2x500gb Seagate barracuda 7200
    Music Card: Creative Audigy2
Power Supplie: Cooler Master 700w Silent Pro
When i try to power on my pc, it reboot in few second (4-5 seconds) again and again since the first time.
What can i do? Please help me....

Your Bios is to old for a E0 stepping CPU.
For a E8500 stepping E0, you need Bios 7.2 or higher.
For a E8500 stepping C0, you need Bios 7.0 or higher.
I think you have stepping E0.
    What can you do:
    1. Flash the Bios with a CPU supportet from Bios 7.1
    2. Let flash the bios from a local computer dealer
Here you can check the bios version you need:

    The motherboard overview states:  http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X48C-Platinum.html#/?div=Detail
    Quote
    • Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600 DRAM, 8GB Max
    • Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 1.8 Volt DDR2 667/800 DRAM, 4GB Max
With the last BIOS, it states that 4GB modules may be possible, but looking at the memory test report http://www.msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_1393.pdf  it seems this was only done for DDR2 modules, as these are the only ones reflecting this.
Suggest you check with MSI technical if the BIOS should accommodate DDR3 4GB modules as well.  >>How to contact MSI.<<
Do a CMOS clear, then once in the BIOS, set your DRAM ratio so that the DRAM is at 1066. See if that works.

  • I have a mainboard X48C freeze problem

Hi I'm new to the forum, sorry to jump on the band wagon but I have the same problem which has only just started, since I bought a Q9550 (previously had a E660) and instead of starting a new post (can if you want) thought I would ask for some help here.
    I have the following system:
    Windows 7 x64 Enterprise
    Q9550 CPU
    1x ATI HD4870 1Gb GPU
    MSI X48c mobo (2x 120 case fans)
    2x (4Gb total) Corsair CM3X2G1333C9 DDR3 RAM
    Noctua CPU heatsink
    2x WD2500KS SATA HDD (RAID 0)
    1x 1Tb SATA WD Green
    1x SATA CD/DVD burner
    OCZ 600w (OCZGSX600) PSU
Tsunami Dream case (2x 120mm fans)
USB ports in roof of case (standard fitting)
With the E6600 all was good in the land. Slightly OC from 2.4GHz to 2.8Ghz but nothing to set the world on fire. System was very stable. Introduce the Q9550, cleared all CMOS Windows is ok(ish) but when gaming I have random PC freezes, black screen for a few secs then it comes back to life. Occationally the PC will reboot it's self too. All drivers are up to date, latest BIOS, just reinstalled Windows 7 x64 and the problem is still occurring (in fact I had a 7e error whilst installing Windows...) Graphics card has been tested on a friends rig and no problems there.
Even setting the CPU and RAM volts manually hasn't resolved the problem. In fact it appears the RAM needs more volts than it is guaranteed to run at; they state 1.5 but this BSOD during windows install, 1.63 and I was able to reinstall Windows fine but after a few mins of gaming the PC froze again. I havent waited for a full blown auto-reboot again. I have set the CPU to 1.3v. Memtests have not produced any errors. I monitor with RealTemps and nothing is getting too hot.
Furthermore I seem to now often get the problem of the PC not booting at all. Power on, fans start and continuously spin fast, I know when it will boot as the GPU fan slows down. PSU underpowered maybe..? I dunno
I am interested in the fact that advice was given to remove the Switch Cards... I was under the impression they had to be installed? What benefit will this bring? I have also thought my PSU might not be up to the job but I have had conflicting responses there.
After having a scan around the forum here it appears I may need to lower my RAM settings?
    Taken from datasheet:
 Tested and packaged in pairs
 Packaged together immediately following system
    test
SPD settings of: 7-7-7-20 at 1066MHz
     Guaranteed at:
Timings of 9-9-9-24 values at 1333MHz
Would you advise to lower to 1066? Will try when I get home (was so hoping to get the most out of them!)
    Regards,
    Spanky

Thanks for the reply and peeling my post off Mike, sorry I didn't start my own initially.
Well @ 1333Mhz I was using the rated timings 9-9-9-24 (as per Corsair) but it wasn't very stable as I said.
I have since changed the FSB/RAM ratio to get 1066Mhz and it seemed much happier. (@1.5v) It would be nice to run the RAM at it's rated setting but my OC skills aren't that extensive. I imagine it would need alot of tweeking? Or could I have just relaxed the timings a bit?
Would removing the Switch Cards make any difference?
    Thanks in advance.

  • X48C Unstable system and somtimes booting problems

Bought last week a X48C Platinum Mainboard with the following system configuration:
    Intel Q9550 Processor
8 GB GEIL 1333mhz (turbocards installed)
Asus nVidia 9800 GTX Dark Knight
Cardreader and WLAN PCI card also installed.
    BIOS Version 7.3
    Windows Professional 64bit
Everything works fine, but after a few hours, the OS is going to run unstable and when I reboot the system. The BIOS is posting and after that, the Marvel Adapter is initializing and doesn't boot further. After turning the computer off and turn on it again after 10 minutes, the CMOS is cleared, but Windows is starting again.
I don't know what the problem exactly is, do I need a BIOS flash?
Memory is running on 1,79V and other settings on Auto, so no overclocking.
As said before, Turbocards are also installed.
I hope someone has a solution!

Do you use DDR2 or DDR3 ram?

  • X48c startup problem

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem with my x48c. It starts and shuts down within a few seconds. I have tried everything including a new power supply and it still does it. I've tried disconnecting everything too.  Just started happening. If I hit the restart button right after I hit the on button, the computer starts and runs fine all day long. I am using it right now to post this message. Could it be a bad cmos battery?

It could be the battery, it could also be bad connections from your case on/off and reset buttons to the board.
Maybe do a test by removing the case connections and starting the PC by shorting the on/off pins with a flat screwdriver tip and see if that makes a difference.
Other thoughts are ageing/failing capacitors. How old is your PSU ? Can you test with another known good PSU.
Do a visual inspection of the MB for any bulging or leaking caps.
