X58 Heatsinks Garbage Here is my Mod.

I know this topic has been introduced many times in this forum, but I wanted to share some info I collected before and after my modification. I had read the notorious thread about removing the original heatsink and re-applying some better thermal paste, but that didn't work as good as what I did. I purchased a ThermalTake Chipset Cooler CL-C0034. I also purchased a Enzotech Forged Copper Low Profile Heatsink for the SouthBridge. First I obviously removed the crappy MSI Heatsink and installed the ThermalTake on the chipset and cut the pipes at the original SouthBridge Heatsink and re-installed it. The ThermalTake did wonders for the X58 Chipset dropping my temps into the low 40's at idle and with prime never got close to 50. Once I played a few games though the SouthBridge which before any modding with original heatsink intact was at about 37 Celsius (measured with a Fluke temperature meter). After modification the Southbridge was now idle at about 44 Celsius, not to bad. Only lost about 7 degrees on the Southbridge. Once I loaded a game though (FUEL) and played for a while the Southbridge went up to the mid 50's, which is probably not horrible, but I like COOL. So I picked up the Enzotech Heatsink, which by the way, depending on where you find it it is labeled as a Northridge heatsink on one website and a Southbridge heatsink at another. Well it fits the Southbridge and also worked wonders. My idle temps are now back down in the mid to upper 30's on the Southbridge and at gaming time never even thinks about 50. MSI really needs to go back to there P35/P45 heatpipe design on these boards. That was excellent achievement for MSI and I do not know why they did not incorporate it into the new x58 lineup. Maybe someday we will see a version 2 board with this modification so that we as consumers don't have to do it ourselves.

well then it looks like we would want 2 of these instead of 1 and 1 CNB-S1(L): http://www.xoxide.com/thermaltake-extreme-spirit2-chipset-cooler.html
looking at Intel's drawings, the ICH10 case is 26mm x 26mm (substrate is 31mm x 31mm), and the Extreme Spirit II is 48mm x 40mm (though it is round, I don't get the 2 different measurements - it could be where the heatpipes stick out) - so it will cover the ICH10 and leave at least 1mm (if not 9mm) for the radius of the bolt. The ESII has very flexible mounting solutions, so it should fit well.
Also, the X58 IOH die is only 10.6mm x 13.8mm (substrate is 37.5mm x 37.5mm) which is less than the smallest dimension of the ESII, so with the nice mounting system of the ESII it should work for the both the IOH or the ICH as OVERKILL.
The extra weight of the ESII will help reduce the thermal resistance of the TIM, too. You could probably remove the fan from the ESII on the ICH, I bet.

  • No Thumbnails, no fullscreen mode

Apart from the fact that it is practically impossible to empty the iPhoto trash (I've tried each and any piece of advice suggested here) sometimes fullscreen mode is suddenly no longer available for some pictures (although it was the day before) so that I only see grey blank squares. Another interesting little feature if iPhoto 6.0.4 is the fact that some pictures suddenly show up as ghosts in the thumbnail view (i.e. I only see black squares). The comments, however, are still there. I can of course re-import the pics, but doing this a couple of times really annoys me.
Is there any way to make iPhoto 6.0.4 behave and cooperate?

    mdlamh
    1. The important thing is that your originals are safe. If you have any doubts, back them up to your external hard disk. Whatever about iPhoto, the pics are most important.
    2. Given that you have tried to re-build the database with no luck, plus tried to restore it from back up (it's likely that the backup is of your corrupted file by now) and that none of these have worked, would you consider trashing iPhoto and it's associated files and starting over with a re-install? This would allow you to begin again, and allow you to build and review your library as you recreate it. It's possible that this problem is caused by a corrupt jpeg file, or even a faulty installation of iPhoto.
    3. If you do conside this option, I can only re-emphasise BACK UP YOUR ORIGINALS in a folder away from iPhoto, and away from the Library folder.
If you need help with this option - which files etc. to trash - feel free to ask.

  • Apple TV: Safari-only mode (stuck)

    Good afternoon,
I opened my mother's apple tv/internet screen in guest-user mode, expecting that all I needed to use youtube was safari.  Unfortunately for me, not only does her safari-only mode NOT support videos, I cannot seem to get out of safar-only mode and back to her regular login screen.  Even when I restart the whole system, it opens back up to safari-only mode.  How can I reset it back to her correct login screen (before she comes home/finds out/kills me)?  I can't seem to find an answer that works for me!
    Thanks very much.

Oops.  I'm not exactly Apple literate (and neither is my mother...that's why I'm trying to take care of this before she comes home).  I don't know exactly what it is, but the internet that she has connected to her tv/apple tv.
Regardless of whether or not Apple TV has a safari browser, the (Apple) computer on her television is stuck on safari-only mode and will not switch back to her account/let me log out/do anything, really.  Maybe you have a suggestion to where I should move this post, then?

  • RSA SecurID and Cisco ACS integration for user(s) with enable mode

I thought I had this problem figured out but I guess not.
I have a Cisco 2621 router with IOS 12.2(15)T17. Behind the
router is a Gentoo linux, RSA SecurID 6.1 and Cisco ACS 3.2.
I use tacacs+ authentication for logging into the Cisco router
such as telnet and ssh. In the ACS I use "external user databases"
for authentication which proxy the request from the ACS over
to the RSA SecurID Server. I installed RSA Agents with
sdconf.rec file on the Cisco ACS server. I renamed "user group 1"
to be "RSA_SecurID" group. In the "External user databases" and
"database configurations" I assign SecurID to this "RSA_SecurID"
    group.
Everything is working fine. In the "User Setup" I can see dynamic
user test1, test2,...testn listed in there as "dynamic users". In
other words, I can telnet into the router with my two-factor
    SecurID.
The problem is that if test1 wants to go into "enable" mode with
SecurID login, I have to go into "test1" user setting and select
"TACACS+Enable Password" and choose "Use external database password".
After that, test1 can go into enable mode with his/her SecurID
    credential.
Well, this works fine if I have a few users. The problem is that
I have about 100 users that I need to do this. The solution is
clearly not scalable. Is there a setting from group level that
    I can do this?
Any ACS "experts" want to help me out here? Thanks.

That is not what I want. I want user "test1" to be able to do this:
    C
    Username: test1
    Enter PASSCODE:
    C2960>en
    Enter PASSCODE:
    C2960#
In other words, test1 user has to type in his/her RSA token password to get
into exec mode. After that, he/she has to use the RSA token password to
get into enable mode. Each user can get into "enable" mode with his/her
    RSA token mode.
The way you descripbed, it seemed like anyone in this group can go directly
into enable mode without password. This is not what I have in mind.
    Any other ideas? Thanks.

  • What is the font used within Single User Mode (CMD+S)?

Upon holding Command + S, you'll be taken to what's called "Single User Mode", where a black screen with a bunch of white text appears. Does anyone know what the font here in this mode is called?

    Everett
To mount a disk in 10.3.9, look at the first part of this FAQ: Resetting the System Immutable Flag in 10.3.
You will need to replace the "mount -t hfs" with "mount -t msdos", but I don't know if you would need further options.
If you can find a 10.4 system, it may be easier, since "autodiskmount" appears to work again. See: kmosx4: Resetting the System Immutable Flag in OS X 10.4

  • Shooting 16:9 "squeeze mode" on DVX100B

One of the things that has been keeping me from buying the DVX100B has been the lack of a "true" 16:9 CCD. I notice that the "b" version of the cam features a squeeze mode and am wondering if anyone in here uses that mode.
What I would like to know is this:
When capturing "Squeeze Mode" footage in FCP, does it import as true 16:9?
When exporting this footage through Compressor/DVDSP will the footage change per users T.V.? (letterbox on a 4:3, then widescreen on a 16:9?)
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
    -Jason

I use squeeze quite a bit. When imported it comes in as anamorphic... that is 720x480. BUT it is flagged as anamorphic so it is edited as 8??x480.
People will tell you that the quality suffers when shooting squeeze vs letterbox because of the 'squeezed' pixels... but it's minor.
When going to DVDSP with anamorphic footage you just tell it to force the track letterbox and it will show letterbox on 4:3 tvs and widescreen on WS tvs.
    Hope that helps.

  • Complaint against abap development mod

    Hi there,
I want to draw attention to how posts are deleted right away and for weird reasons as per what I feel. Threads are deleted as per the mod's discretion, there's no option to send the thread for review, I do not know if the mod(s) who deleted my threads sent it for review to another mod before doing so. SCN is the only forum on the internet to get quick answers to one's doubts and I think the mod's don't realize there are beginners around here. They don't even seem to realize that people put it 10-15mins to post a question and another 15mins to wait and come back for replies just to find the thread gone with a one-line reason as wisdom behind it.
As an solution to this I believe the mod's name must be mentioned when he wants to delete a thread after all it's not like one's going to track down and shoot him but at least such irresponsible behavior will be out and the man can be removed from the mod position.
    here's the "reasons":
    1.don't link to SAPTECHNICAL
I have no idea what the mod has against that website when a lot of threads have linked to other websites. And I had followed the steps from a tutorial on that site so it's obvious I have to mention those steps here when I am seeking help. Does the mod expect to copy and paste content here?
The mod could have just removed the link to saptechnical and be done with it instead of deleting the whole thread.
    2."Interview type" questions:
Whenever I google for "Interview type" as per mod's definition I am brought to SCN, there are 100s of "Interview type" questions and this is just as per the mod's personal opinion of what an "Interview type" is.
    3. And the height of it all: "All this stuff is covered in ABAP programming courses and help.sap.com. If in doubt, you can always run in debug or try to change bits and see what happens."
Well genius I did my course from a different city so you expect me to call up my prof or enroll back to another one. And help.sap.com? I'm pretty sure a lot is covered there so let us just shut down SCN and spend 2000yrs there searching for answers.
Debug? Yes that's what I was trying to learn and maybe somebody would have told me how to go about it before you came in to save space on the SCN servers!
    here's a screen:

A Jürgen points out, any rejection is one moderator's decision. It's not voted on, my decisions are not routinely reviewed, nor are any other moderators' decisions. I'm dealing with many entries on the moderator queue each day. Most people seem to be quite happy with the one line explaining the reasons. For those who are not, I'm happy to give a very detailed explanation here.
I certainly rejected some of your posts.
First of all, a rejection doesn't mean that you've done anything criminal. It just means that in the opinion of the moderator, your post has some issues that mean it should not be published. So there's no need to feel offended or slighted in any way.
    1. Linking to saptechnical is one of these. You weren't to know, no blame is attached. Links to sites that contain SAP copyrighted information without permission are routinely rejected. Yes, I could have edited your post - I chose not to. I find this is generally more effective in preventing recurrence
    2. Any question that appears to be an interview type question will be deleted. I say "interview type", because sometimes they're genuine queries. Your questions were:
Can views work on one table
A not very clear question on FAE (btw - FAE loses compared to INNER JOIN, so why you thought it was the other way, I've no idea).
Can a structure be of any use without it being used in a report/program or some other application of some kind. Can I just view data by defining it in the dictionary?
Taken together these look like interview questions. Of course, with a little thought, you should be able to arrive at an answer to them yourself. For example - try to create a view on one table. Or read the SAP help - it's very clear.
    3. No. I don't expect you to call your professor or re-enroll. I expect you to look at your course notes. You question was about how interactive ALV works. However, in my view, they were things that you would benefit from working out for yourself. It isn't hard to learn to use the debugger. It's not difficult to find and read the relevant parts of help.sap.com. It's not difficult to play around with a program to try to understand what different bits do. It just takes time and effort.
Basic questions are permitted, but - and this is the important bit - not questions that you can easily work out for yourself. When I started in this business we didn't even have the internet - yet somehow we managed to get the information we needed by reading the documentation, asking colleagues and playing around. I'm more than happy to help anyone, but I won't help people who appear not to want to put in a bit of effort themselves.
Moderation is largely subjective. No-one will ever agree with all moderator decisions.
I hope that clarifies things for you.

  • Which Heatsink for a XP2400+

    Hi!
My girlfriend has a AMD system that runs a Athlon XP 2400+.
Usually her idle temp is about 45C to 50C (no idea of load temp soz).
First of all do u think this is too hot?
We r thinking of getting a new Heatsink for her. I am looking at 2 heatsinks atm but not sure which is better. They are both about £20. Could I have your suggestion which is the best
    1. Coolermaster Aero 7+
(I know this is very popular but is it better than...)
    2. ThermalTake Volcano 11
I know both of these heatsinks r meant to be good but I dont know which is better.
Btw if I wanted to overclock her 2400+ then what speed would you suggest. Which multipler and what FSB
    Thanks guy
    SAspaz

my temps bounce from idle about 97f to playing games it will get up to about 117f
i havent used the  Aero 7+ so i dont know what it would be on that i went with the volcano cause it does do a good job plus i like the looks of it   i gues syou could say its all in preference too if your a modder like i am then you'd wana decide what you want to show off in the case ya know but im sure either one will do a good job so good luck with it.

  • Will a MSI Interceptor Case hold a CM V6GT Heatsink?

As the titles states, does this tower have enough space for this Heatsink?
Here as some more specifics if needed
    Case: MSI Interceptor
    Mobo: ASUS M5A99X Evo
    Proc: Bulldozer 6100
    H/S: CM V6GT
Hoping for some good news, I really like the look of this tower but I must make sure it will hold this H/S.
Look forward to reading your responses and thanks in advance.

As the MSI cases are only available in the USA region, best to ask your question here:

  • Start up problems - only boots in safe mode

Hey community of amazing computer lovers, to preface my question... my setup is:
    Macbook Pro, mid-2009 15in.
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Recently, after a move to Hawaii my laptop has begun having issues starting up normally. With ample power in the battery, and even when plugged into the wall via (a slightly damaged adapter), the macbook will do a number of abnormal responses to pushing the power button.
    1. The indicator light (small white mini rectangle near front right of base) will blink once when power button is depressed. Nothing else happens. No boot up.
    2. Holding power button down, indicator light will turn on, a boot up screen appears for a moment, then power cuts out and boot up ends.
    3. (When holding the power button down) The indicator light will light up, then flicker and turn off.
    4. (When holding shift for safe mode) System will boot up and has allowed me to work here in Safe mode.
I have restarted the machine while holding command+R, ran disk utility and repaired the disk. This action has not solved issue. Last night I left the computer in sleep mode after doing this, and woke up to a shut down machine with power left in the battery...
What is the issue at hand? Hardware?
How can I take steps to fix it myself?
    Any help much appreciated,
    Parker

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Looking for a CPU Heatsink for a AM socket motherboard

I am trying to upgrade my motherboard to a Angelica2.  The support information sheet stated that I can use a Zambezi FX processors.  The list is long so I want put them all down.  I ordered through Amazon the FX-8350 processor.  The processor went in the sockets with no problem.  The heatsink stated that is supported the AM3+sockets.  Well the motherboard did not have the supports around the processor sockets holes for the new heatsink. Here is the problem.  I can not find the heatskink that will support this board.  Please help. I have the parts number which is HP#656333.001.  The HP# for the processor is 657914-011.

AM3b is also known as AM3+. I am assuming you had another motherboard in the computer before you got this one and you wanted to swap over the old heatsink/cooler. That is why I want to see the old motherboard or maybe just the old fan/heatsink. I think you need a bracket adapter plate or they might be mounts on the old board you can just detach and move over.  http://www.amazon.com/AMD-CPU-Bracket-Base-socket/dp/B006JA9PTC
