X58 Platinum does not post unless I clear CMOS

I have to hit the 'clear CMOS' button from a cold start (unplugged power cable) on the back of the motherboard in order for it to boot. It restarts just fine.
Once it is booted, everything runs fine. It is just weird that I have to clear the CMOS every time, and reset the clock. Running default settings in the BIOS, no OC. I have changed batteries and it still will not boot or remember what time it is. I have seen some other posts about this but the usual answer is memory swap or memory put into the first black slot, etc., etc. Do I really need to RMA this board or is it just a BIOS fix?

What BIOS Version are you using?

Have you tested any of that (e.g. try to boot with one memory module only?)

You are using factory overclocked memory modules which real specs are DDR3-1066 or DDR3-1333 and you CPU's memory controller natively only supports up to DDR3-1066 (according to Intel Specifications).  What memory related settings are you working with?

Problem: The MoBo suddenly stopped booting. When I press the powerbutton the fans start spinning, the green LED on the MoBo lights up, hd's spin up, and that's about it. The monitor goes into standby. There's no POST, not even beeps.
    Tried:
    Clear cmos (multiple times)
    Replace PSU (tagan > corsair)
    Replace VGA (radeon > nvidia)
Bare boot (MoBo, 1 stick of RAM, CPU and VGA)
Other RAM (kingston hyperx ddr2 800)
    Other CPU (q6600 > some core2duo, 2 cores)
    Reseat CPU, RAM, VGA, cables..
Can it be that my MoBo is just.. dead..?

    Hello and welcome,
by the looks of it, it could well be.
Look on the board for leaking/bulging caps/condensators, if you find a few the board is probably dead.
They have a habit of breaking/bulging when they age and then they go kaput, unfortunately.

  • X58 Pro does not post?

I have an X58 Pro with a 920 processor 3 GB DDR3 10666 a BFGTech LS680 power supply. It is all brand new and has never powered on . I swapped the MB and CPU but to no avail. The Power supply is brand new as well. I tested it on another computer and it powered on. Here is what happens. When I power up the PS when everything is connected the Amber LED lights showing power. When I press either the on board on button or the plug in the power button header, the cpu LED and CPU Fan turns on. I forgot to mention I am doing this outside of the case on a wood surfice.  I have 1 stick of DDR3 10666 memory in A0 and have tried three different sticks.  Both motherboard processor combos exhibited the same.  Is it the memory? Is it the power supply? Need a sanity check I used to know how to put a computer together.

I may have found a resolution. I will have to RMA the power supply.  I'm pretty sure the the 12V rails are not supposed to be 10V. Amazing that a $120 power supply would not have a factory end of line test for power.

    Hi Kiran,
The error message clearly says that "Cost Center validity starts from 01.10.2014" i.e. in the future period.
Change the cost center from period in the past date and try.

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck

  • System does not post after Bios Flash

After using Live Update to flash my Bios to the new version, the computer does not POST. The Bios Flash was successful - it rebooted and started normally. When I tried to restart it the normal way, it will not boot. The fans run when the "power on" button is pressed but nothing more. I cleared the CMOS using the jumpers but the problem was not solved. Can any one help?
Can some good Samaritan give me a step by step method to resolve this problem?

I followed the link you provided and managed to resolved it:
    1) Removed one memory stick and floppy;
    2) Cleared CMOS and rebooted successfully;
    3) Inserted floppy and reverted to the previous BIOS;
    4) Inserted the other memory stick and brought system back to full power again.
Thank you very much for your assistance. I am sure MSI is aware of the problem and will take steps to rectify it ASAP

  • K9N2 plat does not post

I have been having multiple issues with my system and I later determined that it was the power supply. I replaced the PSU and I also got a new case in the process. I installed everything in the new case including the PSU. I turned it on to test the system before I put all the USB stuff and peripherals into the mobo and it works good, everything is normal, but once I hooked all my peripherals like my keyboard, mouse, monitor it completely stopped posting the little LEDs are all red and the speaker does not make a beep. I unhooked it all and the problem still persisted. Then i took out my GPU and tried to turn it on and still and the LEDs are red I took out the mobo out of the case took all but one stick of ram off the mobo and hooked it up to the PSU and still it does not post,  and the LEDs are still red. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem or do i need to get a new mobo all together?

Read the posting guide as Stu says and post your system specs.

  • FSCM 9.0: COBOL Process GLPPPOST does not post Journal Entry correctly

    Folks,
Hello. I am workin on FSCM 9.0 General Ledger module. "Edit Journal" is AE program that works correctly. But "Post Journal" is a COBOL program that does not works correctly.
COBOL process GLPPPOST posts only debit accounts of a Journal entry into table PS_LEDGER but does not post credit accounts of a Journal Entry into table PS_LEDGER. When run the Ledger Report, the report has only column headers and has no data.
Does FSCM 9.0 have a problem or COBOL process does not work correctly ? Can any folks help me ? Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
I linked my Ledger Group RECORDING with my Business Unit BU01 using "Set Up Financials/Supply Chain > Business Unit Related > Ledgers For A Unit". Then linked UserID VP1 with BU01 in User Preference. I have checked all information about the 3 concepts (VP1, BU01 and RECORDING) and don't see anything wrong.
I suspect the problem is in the Journal Line page because its Chartfileds belong to 2 SetID (SHARE and FEDRL) and 2 Business Unit (BU01 and BU02).
When define Chartfields value using "Setup FSC > Common Definition > Design Chartfield > Define Value", I see Chartfields "Fund", "Class" and "Program" with SetID "FEDRL", and other Chartfields with SetID "SHARE". The 2 SetIDs are default in the system.
Because one Business Unit (BU01) can link to only one SetID (SHARE), I create one more Business Unit BU02 and linked with SetID "FEDRL". Thus, when create a Journal entry using "General Ledger > Journal > Create Journal ", we type in Business Unit (BU01) and Ledger Group (RECORDING) in Header page, but in Line page, some of Chartfields link with SetID SHARE and BU01, and some of Chartfields link with SetID FEDRL and BU02. The journal entry indicates "Inter/Intra Unit Journal". When select "Edit Journal" and click "Process", the message comes up as follows:
"Ledger Group RECORDING is not valid for Business Unit BU01. Ledger Group defined for this journal is not valid for the Business Unit BU01".
My question is: That the Chartfields in Journal Line page link with 2 SetIDs and 2 Business Units causes the above error ? Can any folks help ? Thanks.

  • HP MS218 Not Booting - Does not POST - Cannot reach BIOS

    Hello,
I have an MS218 (product number: BR372AA #ABA) that I have been having issues with. It used to work fine (ran on WinXP), but currently will not even boot properly at all. No software or hardware changes were made to cause this problem to begin occurring, it simply just started happening one day when I went to turn the computer back on. The issue that I am currently experiencing is as follows:
    - Power stays on, but nothing is ever displayed on the screen
    - Does not post, cannot reach BIOS
    - Acts almost as if it is resetting itself constantly, the fan in the back will start to spin for a second or two, then stop, then start again, and repeat indefinitely until I unplug the power adapter.
I initially figured it was a hardware issue, likely the motherboard, and began to troubleshoot the problem. As I removed non-vital components, the problem would persist. For instance, it happens regardless of external things (keyboard, mouse, etc.) being plugged in, or regardless of the hard drive or optical drive being plugged in. It still appears to happen in the absense of memory, however, I will instead hear beep codes (likely telling me that I don't have any RAM in). Ultimately, I decided to order a replacement motherboard, which recently arrived. Upon replacing the motherboard, the exact same problems happen, which leads me to believe that the motherboard was somehow not the culprit. I have also tried multiple power adapters to no avail, as well as resetting the CMOS battery without any luck. I'm really at a loss for what to do from here, and am currently sitting on hold with HP tech support.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

    Hello Jaycera,
There are two more components that we haven't replaced or look at and I would approach them in the order listed.
    1. Power supply
    2. Processor
It sounds like it's a power issue the computer is getting enough power to start booting up and then losing it. Thus anytime I hear a power issue the first thing I think of is a power supply issue.
The other thing is it could be the processor. The computer starts booting, makes a call to the processor, fails, boots down, starts booting up, makes a call to the processor and here we are in a vicious cycle.
It could just be the processor needing reseated. Take it out, put it back in and make sure it's in properly and no pins are bent, or the processor could be bad.

  • Deactivate a depreciation area (Real area but does not post)

    Hi Guys
I want to deactivate a depreciation area.
It is a real depreciation area but area does not post in GL.
Is there any risk in deactivating the depreciation area in the asset class ? We do not want to use this area any more '
    Thanks

    Thanks Anil
    But my question is
Should I only have  to deactivate the depreciation area in the asset class OAYZ ? In this case new asset won´t see this depreciation area , but old asset still show this depreciation area in AS03. It seems no issue with this approach.
Someone has suggested me also to deactivate it in OABN (but this depreciation area did not post) If I untick ordinary depreciation field  in OABN when I go to the asset I have an error message:
"You cannot manage ordinary depreciation in area 60
    Message no. AA656
    Diagnosis
According to Customizing settings, ordinary depreciation cannot be managed in area 60. The posting being processed changes ordinary depreciation.
    Procedure
Check the amount entered and the transaction type."
So, what is the safety procedure just go to OAYZ (I think this is the right way) and unclick the field "deact" ?
    "Indicator: Depreciation area is deactivated
Set this indicator if you want the depreciation area to be inactive in this asset class or asset (although it is defined in the chart of depreciation)."
    Any other suggestion ?
    Regards
