X58 Pro (Pro-E) resuming from S3 sleep fails at high BCLK

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem as me.  When I have the system bclk set above ~170 MHz, S3 no longer resumes from sleep mode and simply stays at a black screen.  The power and fans spin up, but the system simply hangs there.  This overclock is 100% stable, as I can run prime95 and memtest for hours without errors.  I'd just really like to use the S3 sleep feature if at all possible.
I tried contacting MSI tech support, but their engineers were not able to reproduce the problem.

I'm using an Eclipse SLI which is also using the X58 chipset. With every BIOS so far, I've got the same problem: When I resume from S3 sleep, the RAM timings are incorrect. Sometimes it would make the CAS Latency slower, sometimes it did reduce it from CL 9 (as specified) to CL 4 (not even manually selectable). It doesn't matter whether auto or manual RAM timings have been set in the BIOS, after S3 the timings are changed. If I hibernate, the timings are always correct. I actually use hibernate to correct the wrong timings caused by S3 sleep. Luckily, my RAM so far has been able to run all of the resulting bad timings.
I would not be astonished if the many problems with S3 sleep I've seen so far on this forum, all reported by users with X58 chipset, could be related to such a bug.

I have the exact same issue on my X58 Pro-E.
I can confirm that from 133 to 166MHz S3 sleep works as expected.  But above this, the PC appears to go to sleep normally, but cannot wake up.  After pressing the power button, the drives spin up and peripherals are powered on, but bios does not load and screen stays blank.  Once the PC internal speaker emitted a continuous buzz as well. Machine is unresponsive to power and reset button at this point and I need to hold power button her several seconds to force power off.  Then when powering on again, the machine will fail to post again, but this time will automatically reboot, pass post and load windows with all previous applications running as if returning from hibernation.
This issue only occurs when "ACPI standby state" is set to S3 in the Bios.  S1 standby state (the default) works fine at all clocks but of course leaves all the fans running.  I have tried both states of "Re-call VGA Bios from S3" (Enabled/Disabled) and this has no effect on the issue.
Since this board can happily run at 200MHz FSB with my CPU, and pass all thermal and stability tests I throw at it, it is disappointing that I cannot use this very convenient feature.
I look forward to a beta bios revision to address this issue.
I have the exact same issue on my Pro-E. i've tried everything I can think of, but have had no success. Only S1 works. What's odd is that when I had everything stock, sleep mode in S3 worked great.

  • Intel 3160 in 15t-k000 cannot reconnect to networks after resume from OS sleep/standby

Quite often the Intel Wireless-AC 3160 will be unable to reconnect to a network after Windows resumes from standby/sleep (or perhaps it's Windows' deeper hibernation).  The only fix (other than restarting Windows) is to disable the 3160 in the device manager and then re-enable it.  Upon re-enable, it immediately reconnects.  This happens sporadically, not every resume.
    Attempted resoluions (besides disable/re-enable workaround):
Tried multiple networks on both 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz bands.  Updated the Intel drivers, the issue persists.
Ran Intel PROSet/Wireless "Manual Diagnostic Tool", which passes tests until "Association Test", which fails.  Even "Scan Test" passes, but it just can't associate (connect?) with a network.
Windows automatic troubleshooting tool.  No resolutions, useless.
EDIT:  The issue looks a lot like this one on the AC 7260.  No resolutions on that forum, unfortunately.
    Windows 8.1Pro 64-bit

As an aside question, what network cards are usable with the 15t-k###?  For example, like the list here for the 15t-j###.  Is there a simultaneous dual band card that can be used instead of the 3160?  Thanks!

    Hi @chappjc ,
Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to try and help!
I understand that you are unable to connect to the network when resuming from sleep or hibernation in Windows 8 Pro.
If is possible that you card is not set to connect when waking from sleep mode.

  • T450S and WIN8.1, "resume from deep sleep" woes

I installed retail win 8.1 on my T450S. I prepared the "Intel resume" partition at the end of the disk.
Now when it returns from deep sleep it randomly selects between the intel partition (displays "resuming from deep sleep" in preboot screen) and Windows own deep sleep state. ( displays the Lenovo logo and the windows "rose" in preboot screen)
Maybe the intel partition is not needed on win 8.1 ?
    Can someone please enlighten me?
PS, I run the Hyper-V hypervisor that presumably disables some of Windows sleep states.

I have a variatio of this issue.  Brand new t450s ...arrived yesterday.   Power management set to suspend when I close lid (battery or AC).  However 50% of the time (randmonly distributed), it shuts down ... hence closes all applications etc.   I called Lenovo tech support and they tried to defer me to the "premium OS support" to which I promptly declined.  Its a frustrating issue as it defeats the purpose of the suspend function ... any thoughts ?

  • Mac Pro won't wake from prolonged sleep in Mountain Lion

My Mac Pro won't wake from sleep after it is in sleep mode for several hours at a time.  It will wake if the sleep period is short.  But if it sleeps overnight it will not wake the next morning.  Nothing seems to work.  It requires a hard restart.  I am running OS X 10.8.2.  I read in another site that this problem was fixed for Macbook Air and Macbook Pro by turning off hibernate mode in Terminal.  But I doubt this would help with my Mac Pro.
    Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Build 9926 - blue screen after resume from long sleep

I installed Windows Technical Preview build 9841 in October, 4 days after it came out, via an upgrade, keeping everything, from the factory 8.1 (Toshiba with all the bloatware). The drive was almost empty at this point and I had installed only a couple
of programs when I made the upgrade. I successfully upgraded to 9860 then 9879 the day those came out, and hadn't had any issues. Two days after installing 9879, I installed Linux Mint 17 KDE on a seperate 66GiB partition. Now I run a dual boot between Windows
10 Pro Technical Preview (build 9926) and Kubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet preview. I hadn't had any problems with my laptop except for the very rare blue screen, until I tried installing Google Chrome Canary (under build 9879). It blue screened (BAD_POOL_CALLER
I think) and it now does it after I resume from sleep (an overnight sleep where it hibernates or something) and I lift up the login screen. I think I'm the only one with this problem, so what can I do about it? Thanks

    PH
These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Please run verifier  first
If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
    In other words STOP!!!
If you do not know what this means you probably are not
1-Driver verifier (for complete directions see our wiki here)
2-Memtest. (You can read more about running memtest here)

  • Z68A-GD55 B3 Freezes when resuming from S3 sleep

When resuming (waking up) from S3 sleep, the computer freezes after about 1 second.
    I've tried
    * Removing all USB devices
    * Disabling all USB controllers via BIOS
    * Removing external video card and only using integrated graphics
    * Resetting CMOS and using all BIOS defaults
    * Updating to the latest official BIOS (M5)
The only clue I have is an event logged in the Event Viewer each time this happens: Driver PCI returned invalid ID for a child device (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF00).

This is a link to the topic I have going https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=154271.0  where I have had similar issues with the same board.  The same message you receivedQuote from: bomax on 19-November-11, 11:31:36

is the one I got on the Blue screen freeze after flashing the BIOS.  I am not freezing or BSODing now during gaming but when I come out of sleep or when I have went to shut the PC down.  I am about to check the voltages but I will try you fix too.  I have wondered about the BIOS for the (G3) compared to the (B3).  I have the latest (B3) beta BIOS for this board, I just curious.

  • Resume from suspend occasionally fails.

Sometimes when I resume after suspending to RAM, all that shows up is a blank screen with a single underscore at the top left. There is no mouse cursor and the system is completely unresponsive. It only happens occasionally (maybe 1/4).
I have not found any related messages in the logs. Memtest completes successfully too. Does anyone have any idea of what might cause this?
It's like the system is playing Russian roulette with itself whenever I resume.
Last edited by Xyne (2013-02-06 11:54:41)

This happens to me 100% of the time with 3.11.6 and 3.10.17, resuming from suspend results in naught but an underscore top left. VT switching appears to work temporarily, I was able to enter in my user name in the VT, but then everything hung on pressing enter. Not sure about earlier kernel versions because this is a fresh install on this hardware. Happens with and without X.
Hibernate results in an underscore before the computer is able to shut down. I tried using pm_trace and dumping logs before/after as recommended around the internet, pm_trace didn't match any hashes & there are no logs after suspend that get written out as far as I can tell. The computer is also unresponsive to the network. I also tried using pm_debug but I wasn't really sure what I was doing, running the core test I thought shouldn't cause the computer to actually suspend, but it did & there was my underscore again in all its glory.
Wish I knew a way to get some more information..

  • Macbook Pro Won't Wake From Deep Sleep

I'm having issues from my Macbook Pro waking from a deep sleep after my battery dies. If the battery dies and it goes into sleep, my Macbook Pro won't wake even if it's connected to power. I can remove the battery, hold down the power button, press keys and nothing happens.
I know the obvious thing is to not let the battery die, but I don't always work near outlets.
I've tried resetting the nvram and smc and nothing has worked. I'm probably going to bring it into Apple soon, but I really can't be without my computer for class.

Yes, I've tried that. It doesn't work. I've left the battery in, I've taken it out and left it out for a bit and nothing seems to work. It just turns back on whenever it feels like it.
I just had a sort of similar issue with a restart (no dead battery this time though). After my computer shutdown from a restart, it didn't want to boot back up. After holding down the power button and doing a few other things, I gave up. Then I closed the lid and set it down. It then decided to turn itself on.
I think I'm going to bring it in. I do massive amounts of design and web work on this thing and I can't have it messing up.

  • MacBook Pro freezes when waking from deep sleep

When I plug in my Mac to charge overnight and go to unplug it in the morning, it will make the sound it does with the CD drive and then it acts like it's coming on. the first time I use it  after I've unplugged it, the screen will come on like normal and show the login screen, when it does I can't move the mouse or type my password in for a minute or two. after about 20 seconds, the screen turns off...however I can turn it back on by clicking the power button but most of the time it still won't let me enter my password or move the mouse around. I'm not sure what the problem is. but it's only been doing this since I've updated to Yosemite.

Try turning off "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" under the advanced section of the Bluetooth System Preferences.  Hope this helps.

  • Log-In Screen Does Not Appear When Resuming From Standby/Sleep

We are running T400s with XP SP3. From time to time when the computer comes out of standby the login screen will not appear. You just get the background image and your mouse. The mouse will move across the screen. However there is no screen saying press Ctrl+Alt+Del or swipe a finger to login. Also swiping a finger, or pressing ctr+alt+del, typing in your password and hitting Enter does not work either. It seems to be a random but frequent occurence. The couple of T400s with Vista installed do not have this problem. Any ideas?

After doing some troubleshooting I narrowed it down to the FingerPrint reader software.  Sure enough after uninstalling it fixed the issue but then the finger print reader is useless.  I looked at the latest Version, 3.2.0.116, readme file and it states:
    <3.2.0.116>
     - (Fix) Fingerprint Reader is not working ater 1 minute idle.
     - (Fix) Fingerprint Reader is not working after standby/resume.
I am wondering if they are still working out the bugs, nothice the "l" missing from later. Any help would be a big plus as I need to roll out about 200 or so for my employer in the next month.

  • ATI RADEON HD 4870 - Resume from display sleep issue

When my monitor wakes from power-saving mode, the screen is all snowy.

I have issues too- though they are different. Monitor comes on showing a blue screen, this last 5-10 seconds, either at this point or just before the blue screen I get a flash of the desktop. The screen then goes blues again and the desktop appears. Sometimes there is a brief flicker of corruption.
I did a safe reboot and redid permissions. After that the monitor would not come on at all until i reset the PRam.
I also cannot the seat the card properly so i cannot reattach the bracket the screws the card into the case...

  • Macbook Pro random restart during wake from Safe Sleep

When my Macbook Pro is waking up from Safe Sleep, sometimes it spontaneously restarts halfway through the process. The Safe Sleep progress bar gets half way, then you hear the startup chime, and then the login screen appears. Obviously, all my unsaved but supposedly 'safe' work is lost at that point.

    Hello there DaveWoo,
It sounds like your computer is occasionally restarting on its own when you wake it from sleep. There can be a number of reasons for this to happen, and I recommend you use the following article to help you resolve or isolate the issue. Its pretty thorough and has a lot of information.

  • W520 resume from suspend issue

My W520 is about 2 years old now. Been a good machine. Lately I've had this odd issue where the W520 will not resume from suspend/sleep (not hibernation). It pretends to, but then gets stuck in an endless loop of the keyboard flashlight coming on, one of the green LED lights below the screen, and then repeating itself. This is exaclty my issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48Mi4tqUaZc
Anyone seen this? Please don't pile on with sleep issues that are different. There are lots of similar isues, but most have different symptoms than this. Googling has shown me that this issue happens on Linux as well as Windows.
    Thanks

Okay, I looked at your video.  I have this exact issue too.  It started about a month ago but I am not able to pinpoint when exactly.  What version of BIOS are you running (and other specs)?
This is frustrating!  Most days now for the past month or so, sometimes multiple  times per day, when I try to resume from sleep it fails just like you have described.  I then end up removing power and rebooting into Windows.  This typically also creates file allocation errors (and the need to check my disk).  I have gone through all of the system updates with the exception of BIOS, which is still at version 1.36.  I was going to check tonight what experience others have had with the newest BIOS.  I will post any solutions I discover.  Let me know if you find out anything.

  • Kernel panics waking from deep sleep after SSD upgrade

    Hi
Kernel panics every time a 15-inch mid 2012 MacBook Pro 9,1* wakes from deep sleep** following upgrade from original HDD to an SSD***. The first SSD was replaced under warranty and the issue is still occuring. The extended Apple Hardware Test reports no issues. Following physical installation of the SSD, it was formatted—one Mac OS Extended (journaled) partition—and Yosemite (10.10.1) installed from a USB using the only-slightly-less-easy-way instructions from arstechnica. The original RAM was upgraded about a year ago with Crucial 2x8GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM.
It is a very nice MBP if only these kernel panics could be resolved.
