X58A-GD65 USB3 problem with WD MyBook

Hi,
I have X58A-GD65 with i7 processor, 6 GB RAM, 4 internal HDD, 4 external HDD, Win 7 x64. Two of the external are WD MyBook Essential USB 3.0/2.0.
My Renesas drivers are v 2.0.34.0 (the ones from the board page).
When I plug two of the WD drives, only ones can be seen. Both on BIOS level and Win 7 level.
Any insight or any newer drivers that work?
Sincerely
Bülent

I memory serves corretly, there is a firmware update available from WD that pertains to this.
Also have you checked in the disk manager? Perhaps one needs to be set up.

  • X58A-GD65 overclock problem

    Hi all,
I just got the X58A-GD65 and updraded the BIOS to V2. I'm trying to get my Dominator 2000GT and intel i7 950 to 2000mhz and 4ghz respectively.
I can get the memory up to 2000mhz using XMP on auto and manually giving it 1.65v. Very stable!
I can also get the CPU to 4.2ghz with the base clock and multiplier to 175mhz and x24, again stable.
The problem is I can't get them both working together, when I enable the XMP feature on the memory, it remove the multiplier value on the CPU and doesn't allow me to change the base clock speed.  It just runs them at it's own speed of 3.42ghz which is a good speed, but I know i can get 4ghz+ from my CPU.!
Where am I going wrong guys?

I'm trying these settings as you recommend but I can't get it to post.
Probably need more CPU V. Raise in small increments & check for post. In no way should it need to get up to 1.400, so the limitation will most likely be RAM speed & a limitation of the CPU IMC. In this case, recommend manually setting your CPU to the speed you want & set the RAM to 'best speed' in conjunction with the bclk you have selected.

    Memory timings  1T - 8 - 9 - 8 - 27
The XMP profile at 2000, uses CR of 2 not 1. That 'may' be the problem at that speed.
    With a bclk of 176, mine are currently running 1760 CR 1, 8 9 8 24, tRFC 88 @ 1.62V's.
Added: In the spirit of the pursuit of science, I did some more testing. The mainboards are capable, the RAM is capable, but it does seem to ultimately rest with the CPU itself what it can handle. This screenshot is most likely an 'exception to the rule' & 'non' typical of capability for a standard 1366 i7 9xx series. This is with an i7 970 which has much different operating limits. * DRAM V. 1.68V's with VDroop reads 1.66V's in CPUID H/W Monitor.
    * WARNING.....Maximum DRAM voltage for other than i7 970 or 980X is 1.65V's! Permanent CPU damage/degradation may be the result!

    Merry Christmas all.!
I've just purchased a MSI X58A-GD65 and I'm have a few problems overclocking with it. My setup is MSI X58A-GD65, Intel  i7 950. 6gb dominator 2000 GT.
The problem I'm having is I can't access any voltage controls for the CPU and memory in the BIOS. They are all greyed out and say [AUTO].. No matter what I change I can't access them. What am I doing wrong guys?
I have updated the BIOS to v.2.2 also..

I bought the MSI X58A-GD65 because I am a complete moron who wanted a hardware Easy Switch.
It works really well, but I was pissed when I noticed that my 12GB's of RAM was no longer recorgnized. Only showed 8GB's..............
So I set the Easy Switch to deafualt ( 133 ) and decided to overclock the CPU and tweak the RAM.
I just read every forum where people had problems w/ various settings, and since I only want 3.2GHz w/ 12GB's of RAM @1.4v it was a walk in the park.
Clearing the CMOS after a day of torturing myelf and committing Human errors,I easily was able to simply undervolt the RAM from the 1.65v default, and raise the 133 default setting up by a factor of 5 and rebooting.
So this is my first OVerclocking experience and MSI seems like a worthy board..
I use this to perform hardware and virtual musical synths and instruments 6 nights a week.
Since I cam from a solid 32bit DAW that ran 100% for 3 yerars,I didn't upgrade, but actually did an entire new rebuild since I wasn't sure ofthe stability in x64.
But this DAW has worked for days on end now flawlessley.

    Hi there,
I have been trying to overclock my mainboard and it doesnt change my Clock Frequency, actually it changes but when I try to reboot system, it comes back to 133mhz again! I'm sure that it is not failure of overclocking, what should I do about this problem?
Every detail can change but clock frequency...!
I updated mainboard by the way to the last firmware.
NOTE: I manually change frequency on mainboard to 200mhz. now Setup says 200 mhz, while computer starts, startup says 200mhz, in Windows, it says 133 mhz! even CPUZ says 133mhz!... what is going on :S

  • X58A-GD65 boot problems

hi, i am having problems with my computer not booting right. there is  a single 750 gb hdd on it and it refuses to boot without using f12. I have changed the boot sequence in the bios settings, but to no avail. also it refuses to boot off of the cd drive as well. i got the computer used and the person i bought it from said that there would be something i would have to download from the msi site to get it to boot fro the drive automatically without having to use f12 b/c he had wiped it before resale. i downloaded the live update 5 program and installed everything i could find, but it didn't help. i am getting a little frustrated here! two other things, while i was changing the bios settings my cpu fan wound up to 4k+ speeds and became 3 -4 times as loud. my cpu is running under 50*C tho so i don't think i have a problem there, but it is really annoying. It doesn't matter that i restored it to optimized defaults either. and secondly it has just recently started giving me an 'X64 Exception Type......bla bla bla...' error occasionally  that blocks me from even being able to boot via f12. my bios version is v23.1 031911. idk if there is a newer one that i can flash or what. thanks for reading this, i would appreciate any help! i can post pics or more details if needed.

Some information about the systems other components may be of assistance in the troubleshooting process.

Live Update is a dangerous path especially if it tried or did flash the BIOS. Exactly which mainboard version do you have? There are two versions. It will be printed on the mainboard's PCB.

  • Z77A-GD65 USB3 port with Seagate Freeagent go desk issues

I have a Z77A-GD65 motherboard, with an intel i5 Ivy Bridge 3570k processor. Kingwin LZP-550 PSU and have attached via USB3 (using a USB3 cable of course) a seagate Free Agent Go Desk 2TB external hard drive.
On my old system the drive when the system is on, is running just spins down when its not in use.. power light stays on for the drive all the time. That was also a USB3 system, just another USB3 chipset.
On this motherboard, sometimes the drive when the system is powered up doesn't turn on and I have to unplug the USB cable and replug it in, after that the drive power LED comes on and spins up.
Any reason why this motherboard is acting like this? The drive should come on with the system like it did on my old system.
Anything I can do to fix this or change the USB ports behavior? It's almost like its not telling the device it's on.

Attached is the latest beta bios for your board.(MSI recommended this)
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
MSI tried to duplicate the problem but couldn't does this testing procedue seem right to you?
    1.   Install System driver and reset
    2.   Connect USB HDD to USB 3.0 port. The device can be recognized.
    3.   Reboot the system
    4.   Check Computer and still can find the USB HDD
    5.   Power off the system
    6.   Power on and check Computer.
    Z77A-GD65
    BIOS: E7751IMS.A50
    WIN7 64 bit
    USB 3.0 driver: 1.0.4.225
    Seagate FreeAgent Goflex STAA1500301 1.5TB
I installed that BIOS and still have the issue, one easy way to reporduce this is to power up the system into windows 7 x64, sleep the computer in (sleep mode in bios is set to S3) when you wake it, the USB3 drives are offline

  • Tecra S10 - e-SATA problem with WD MyBook

I have Tecra S10-10E loaded with win 7/32 ultimate. From the begining there is the problem attaching e-sata WD MyBook - most of the time cannot be attached
and Device Manager hangs up in refreshing devices. Only reboot helps, after what sometimes it can be attached, but only ones per boot. All other devices works fine. Before win 7
I have worked with XP without such problem.
I have tried to update the chipset drivers for win 7 - but it has failed with message that computer does not meet the minimum requirements.
The BIOS is 2.0. Trying to upgrade BIOS to 3.0, it responded that Intel TXT must be disabled, but it is fixed in BIOS, option cannot be selected.
Any idea how to fix e-sata?

    Hi
    > I have tried to update the chipset drivers for win 7 - but it has failed with message that computer does not meet the minimum requirements.
This could appear if you would use wrong chipset driver.
But this could also happen if you have tried executing the chipset .exe instead of installation from device manager.
The notebook seems to support the Mobile Intel(R) PM45 Express Chipset.
Download it from the Intel page and update the driver in the device manager.
There you will have to use the advanced installation procedure which allows you to point to the Intel Chipset driver files (inf files) stored on the HDD.
    Regarding the BIOS update:
Please ensure that VAP has been installed before trying the BIOS update!

  • Z87-GD65 Boot Problems With 16GB installed

    Hi All,
    My machine spec
    Intel 4770
    16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro
MSI GTX 780 Twin Frozr Gaming
    Corsair RM850 power supply
    SanDisk extreme II 240GB SSD
    MD Bios 1.8 default settings.
and that's all I have plugged in the board at the moment.
The problem is once I add the second stick of ram and do a real cold boot (like the next day) the machine doesn't boot. The leds just keep cycling.
The funny thing is if I take the second stick out it will boot. Then if I add the second stick back it boots fine and will work all day, no blue screens.
Then next day back to it not booting and cycling leds. I've tried swapping the ram sticks etc and they are in slots 2 and 4.
one other thing I've noticed is it takes a long time to shut down. I'm taking a minute after windows closes.
This is my second GD65 the first one wouldn't boot at all with the GTX plugged in and the same with my old 7870.
    any ideas??
    cheers
    Johnny

Don't the Sandisk Exterme 2's use a Marvell chipset?
The previous generation SanDisk Extreme SSD used a SandForce controller, with largely unchanged firmware. This new drive however moves to a much more favorable combination for companies who have their own firmware development team. Like Crucial’s M500, the Extreme II uses Marvell’s 88SS9187 (codename Monet) controller. "courtesy of Anandtech.
Its time to do a manual memory setting. Set it to 1600 at 1,545 or the closest you can get to 1,575 and ensure your memory timings are set at 9.9.9.24. Retest

  • X79A-GD65 8D problem with built in BIOS utilities (browser, etc)

Good day. I have my X79A-GD65 8D running for about a week now paired with i7 3930k. The board is working wonderfully, however there is just one issue. After installing winki from the cd and returning to the bios to use the built in browser or MSI live update, the white splash screen appears for a while and shortly after a black screen appears and remains.
Ive tried leaving the disc in the drive and have the browsre run directly from the CD but still no luck. I've also borrowed the install DVD of a friend of mine who has an identical board but it still doesnt work.
Please note that I am on the latest BIOS, version 1.7.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Must be talking about Winki? The Software Application User Guide covers it pretty well how it all works and such. Using Live Update is not recommended to be installed or used. Do all UEFI/BIOS updates and driver updates manually from the downloaded files available at the MSI Websites.

  • Z68A-GD65 (B3), problem with multiplier!

    Hello!
I'm trying to use 50x multiplier on this board, but everytime I do that, it goes down to either 48x or 47x. I'm reading this is an issue with 23.1 bios?
Anyone else have a solution to this? The latest bios on the homepage for the motherboard at MSI is 22.4. Where is these new bios everybody uses to get to 50x?
    Thanks in advance!

Which BIOS do you currently run as Primary ?
What is your CPU Adjust Ratio set to ? and what are your Core 1, 2, 3 and 4 set to ?
btw I removed your double post in the beta section. No need to duplicate your posts.
    Hello! Sorry for my doublepost!
Well, just to remind you again, I have the G3 version and I'm using the latest BIOS posted in the beta-section. They are the E7681IMS.N37 posted by Junior on 21st October.
This problem was in the shipped BIOS aswell. 23.1 I think they where.
I'm using 100Mhz BLCK, with a multiplier of 48. If thats what you mean by CPU Adjust Ratio. I have turned off Turbo-bosst and EIST (Doesn't make a diffrence, it downthrottled to 46 and 47 anyway).
Otherwise, everything is default on the bios except my vcore which is set to 1.430.
I might add that this was not a problem when I wrongly flashed my BIOS with the betas for the B3version (If you read the second post in this thread). But I don't want to use BIOS'es for other motherboards. Also, these bioses for the B3-version showed correct readings of FSB in CPU-z, whereas the the BIOS I'm using right now are showing 99.8Mhz.
Sorry for my English, I hope you understand. And again, thanks for your extremely fast answers!

Am i doing something wrong, i uninstall and install. :(

    Quote
the 7.043 is for a windows update, which doesn't work correctly.  It wouldn't be on windows update unless you werent meant to upgrade it.
That's not entirely true. Windows has made mistakes in the past of supplying incorrect updates to components & devices. Safest way to get correct drivers is from the MSI Website for your board. MSI tests them when they are received from the vendors & then posts them on the Website.

  • MSI X58A-GD65 bios problems, I guess.

    Hello.
Like the title says, I believe there's something wrong with the bios. I installed Live Update 5 - wanted to update my bios (in a window), it finished deleting the flash, but once it reached 20% of the rebuilding part the screen went black, I waited for about an hour, tried rebooting and the screen is now.. Always black, I've followed the "Clear CMOS guide"  nothing happened. So forum... What do?

    Quote from: HU16E on 18-June-12, 07:05:46
Recommend to send the mainboard to MSI for service, or if a pc shop in your area has an SPI flash programming device, they may be able to revive it for you. Since the BIOS updates are only available to use with LU, you would need to contact MSI Technical for a .zip or.rar BIOS file the pc shop can flash.
    >> How To Contact MSI <<
I'll do that then, thank you, Gentlemen.
