X6 - problem with 802.1x wlan

Hi, finally my university has joined eduroam, they use EAP-PEAP and EAP-MSCHAPv2. I have the right Authorithy Cert installen in the mobile. However, i cannt connect. Either the X6 shows something like "Error: Wlan not found" or "EAP_PEAP: Authentification failed" Is there anything i can try? Non-802.1x-wlans work without problems.
greetings malte

Hello,
thanks for your link. Of course I will read. CiscoTac think that we have bug CSCtq32145 and we are working in this way.

  • Slow wireless speed with new iMac Intel- problem with 802.11g?

There IS a problem with the new Intel Mac, I have tried both the Intel iMac and the new Intel Mac mini and they both have the same problem with slow wireless speed (or rather it variates, if I do a ping to another computer on the network the speed goes from < 1 ms up to 1000 ms and then down to < 1 ms and so on). The older mac minis, my Linux boxes and my Windows PCs don´t have that problem. I have also read reports on the net and it appears that most users experiencing this problem have wireless card firmware version 101.3 (3.120.28.3) . A possible "fix" is to change to 802.11b on the router and then it works. No speed fluctuations and a stabile network! I know it is a bad solution, I would prefer to use 802.11g and get the speed. However I think this points to a problem with the drivers regarding 802.11g. I am starting up a new thread on this and those of you with problems, please try to switch to 802.11b and if it works let us make Apple aware of this.

  • Windows 7 Wireless Logon - Problems with 802.1X Machine & User Authentication

    Hello All,
We’ve had difficulty with our Windows 7 clients authenticating to our wireless network. I’m hoping someone out there has experienced the same thing and can offer some help.
    Some info about our environment:
Single Windows 2008 R2 domain with 6 DCs
    MS Radius server
    Aruba wireless controllers
    The Problem:
    The client computer boots,
    Auths as machine (802.1X successful)
    User enters creds
    User auth (802.1X successful)
To this point, everything is working normally. Next is where it gets weird.
During the logon process, there is another machine auth
2-5 minutes later another User auth
OS is up and usable (connected to wireless network); however, no homefolder is mapped and GPP didn’t apply properly.
From what I understand, after the user has logged in, Windows never attempts another machine authentication. When the user logs out, Windows can attempt it.
Can anyone offer some insight to what is causing this? I have logs available if anyone is interested.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
    Brett
    -- Brett

I did a network trace to gain more insight. I don’t understand why after 802.1X auth is successful on port 1, it then initiates 802.1X auth on port 2.
    Can you offer any insight?

  • Problems with 802.1x MS PEAP machine and user authentication

Using Microsoft PEAP 802.1x client on Windows XP SP2, if we enable machine authentication against a Windows Domain, the machine authentication is successful and the machine gets access to the network. However, when user logon occurs to the domain, contrary to the flow given in ACS and Windows documentation, no user authentication takes place.
We need to differentiate user access based on their identities. We need machine authentication only to allow users access to the domain controller and also GP implementation.
Any idea why user does not get prompted when they logon. 802.1x is configured in users profile and I have tried with both integrated and non-integrated with Domain logon (i.e. "use my windows logon name and password and domain (if any) option"
There is no record of any identity request/response in ACS after the initial machine authentication (which appears in successful authentication log)
    We are using MS-CHAPv2.

Update...The problem of cached credentials in MS PEAP does not occur if "enable logon using Windows username and password (and domain if any) is checked. Using this option, MS PEAP always uses logged on users most current credentials.
However, using this option sends the username as "DOMAIN\USERNAME". Since we are using ACS internal database for user authentication (even though the ACS and Windows passwords are same - using an identity management system) ACS does not recognize the user.
I have tried proxy distribution with prefix stripping but it does not seem to work when it is pointing to the same ACS server on which proxy distribution is configured and which receives the request.
Any idea how the domain\ can be ignored by ACS?

  • Airport Extreme Problems with 802.11b router

I have a Netgear MR314 LAN and wireless router. I have a G3 iMac and 2 G3 iBooks with Airport Express cards and they work fine with the wireless connection with this router. I have a 12 inch G4 iBook with an Airport Extreme card running 10.4.3. Every time when this iBook connects with the wireless router it works for about 10 minutes and then the router locks up. If I re-set my cable modem and the router then the system will work again.
Because the router only goes up to the speed of 802.11b and not the 802.11g potential speed of the Airport Extreme I know that the card has to run at the slower speed when it connects with my router.
I am trying to determine whether my Airport Extreme card is defective. Any suggestions?

I have updated the firmware in the router and that seems to have fixed the problem.

  • Problems with 802.11b networks

My MBP did not connect to my 802.11b home network as all my PCs do. So I upgraded to an 802.11g access point and now all the computers are talking to each other and the Internet.
But the MBP will not connect to ANY 802.11b network. I have tried several and no go!! All are unencrypted so no WEP issues. Am I missing something with the MBP or is there something wrong with the software. The configuration test window shows a strong signal and green indications for the top three lights (802.11b stuff) while turning red for the bottom three (actual connection related stuff).
I am a returning Mac user after 20 yrs with the PC, but this is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your help

I've connected to 802.11b networks with no problem so it isn't a general problem.
I'm not clear on what software you are using. What software shows red and green status indicators?

    Hi,
    My components: ACS 3.3 running on a Server with Windows 2000 Server SP4 , 2950 Catalyst (AAA-Client) ,
Laptop with Windows XP SP2 (802.1x Client)
I have everything configured according to Cisco documentation, but I am getting one error in the ACS's log.( Failed Attempts active.csv)
Authen-Failure-Code : EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake
I have a valide certificate on my Radius(ACS) server and about machine authentication I have a valide certificate on my laptop. (I have installed this certificate before i started to login at the 802.1x port of the switch)
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?
Here is the Config of the Catalyst 2950 if that will help:

Yes we get to solve this problem. Because it is a only a test senario, we installed everything new, win2000 server SP4,the certificate service and the winXP on the client.
The config of the switch is ok, we set the reauth-period and quiet-period to default.
Then we test the whole configuration with the IAS-Radius (MS). After this we install the ACS, following this document:(Certificates were already installed)

  • Major Problems with 802.11n Upgrade:-(

Since I installed the new 802.11n update, my upload speed is virtually unusable: it stays at or below 10-11k.
I am connecting a Mac Book C2D to a D-Link 655, and everything worked great until I applied the update.
I've reinstalled several times, to no avail. Any ideas?
How do I uninstall the 802.11n Update?

this is why they call the N specification a "draft."
it's beta. uncompleted. devices from different manufacturers cannot be guaranteed to work at all until everyone's using the final spec.
i would NOT RECOMMEND following the advice on macfixit.com to replace parts of your airport driver with older versions. instability will result in a system with mixed software versions when apple's software updates are installed.
at the very least... when 10.4.9 is released, USE THE COMBO UPDATER, not the delta. it will write over the version discrepancy you created, allowing you to "re-apply" your hack if you're still experiencing trouble.

  • Problem with wlan sticks module, not able to write to disk any more

    Hello everybody,
when I booted my PC today, a strange and some sort of severe problem occurred concerning my wlan stick(s) that I think, I'm not able to solve without your help. I searched for a solution but it didn't seem that somebody else has had a similar problem before.
    Here is the description:
I have two wlan sticks (but I do not use both of them nor are they both plugged in at the same time), and both happen to malfunction since today. My "main" stick (used most of the time) is a BigTec Wireless 11N Adapter with a Realtek chipset. My second one (only used to solve problems with the other stick) is a Fritz! WLAN USB Stick (to be used with ndiswrapper).
After bootup, which makes no problems at all, my "main" wlan stick is not able to connect to the network. When I run wicd-curses (I use wicd as network manager), the virtual terminal freezes (when I use urxvt under openbox to run wicd-curses, only the window freezes). After one minute, a message appears that says something about a dbus problem but I am not able to read it because of the screen clears. Then I'm able to use the terminal again, but (and this is the very, very strange about this) when I run any program that tries to write on my disk it stucks, so I can't cancel it with ctrl-c nor can I kill the process. Wicd-curses, ifconfig or iwconfig also crash after entering the command and show the same behavior. At this point, my wlan stick does not show any sign of being plugged in (normally it blinks...).
My second stick makes the computer crash: After a few moments a stacktrace is shown (like when a kernel panic occurs), saying something about "stack being overrun". But I can't find the message in the log files so it is difficult to post it.
When I tried to figure out a solution, I saw in pacman.log, that yesterday udev and hwdetect were updated... But also downgrading all the packages that were updated yesterday did not solve the problem!
I'll post now the last lines of a few logs here (but nothing concerning the ndiswrapper stick, else it would be too disturbing), I hope they help you at helping me!

P.S.: Excuse all the mistakes I made because of being new here, please!

This seems to be a problem with r8712u on all 3.2.x and 3.3-rc kernels on all distros.  I've had it for weeks on Gentoo, Arch, and several other distros.
If you are running a 3.2.x kernel, this is almost definitely the problem.  All 3.1 kernels don't do this.
I posted a temporary work-around on the Arch bugzilla, and Larry Finger (kernel dev with wireless) is currently working on it (a patch).
In the meantime, If you compile your own kernels, you can get 3.2.x's to work normally- see my comment here for more details.   https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27996
Top of page doesn't say r8712u, but it's the same problem, and after the first 2-3 comments it deals with r8712u specifically.
There is also info on the Gentoo forum 3.2 kernel quirks thread, towards the bottom of Page 1:  http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-901702.html

  • 802.11n 5ghz Connection Problem with OS X 10.4.11 Tiger

I've searched the communities for answer to this vexing issue to no avail, so I am trying a post.
    Situation:
I have a dual-band 1TB TC at home set up with three networks: 802.11g/b/a, 802.11n ((5ghz), and Guest Network (g/b).  There are four Macs accessing it: (2) mid-2009 15" MacBook Pros, 2009 MacBook Air, mid-2006 24" iMac.  All are running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 except the 24" iMac (Core 2 Duo) running 10.4.11.
All Macs can connect to to all networks EXCEPT the iMac which has a problem with the 802.11n (5ghz) connection ONLY.  The iMac has the n-enabler installed (can see it registered when looking at Network Utility).  In fact, the iMac will connect but any attempt to access to the Internet or TC disk stalls the system.  Switch back to 802.11g and everything is fine.
I've looked at the Console for guidance but cannot find anything problematic (to my eyes, anyway).  I booted this iMac to Snow Leopard from an external disk and the problem cannot be duplicated, so I am assuming this is not a hardware issue with the iMac.  I also, did a fresh install of Tiger and updated it to 10.4.11 plus all Airport updates and n-ebabler on an external drive, booted from this drive and have the same issue with the 5 ghz n-connection.
By the way, when connected to 802.11n (5ghz) network with the iMac, I have full bars on the menubar fan, but then one bar drops after a minute or so.  When this happens, I cannot access the Internet nor the TC disk.
I've tried various tweaks as described in the many, many discussion threads here: resets, establish new locations, clear/repair the keychain, and many others.
I did not have this problem in the past with this iMac, so don't know what has changed with the system configuration.  The g-connection is rock-solid, so Internet access is fine, but file transfer speeds ober the network are obviously much slower now than with the 5ghz n-connection.
Anyone have any ideas?  Without suggesting an upgrade to 10.6...clearly that should do the trick.  I have other reasons for running Tiger on the iMac.
    Thanks.

I wonder if all the activity was too much for the hard drive and it failed....you might contact Apple about this repair extension program to see if you qualify...

  • Ipad 2 802.1X PEAP Authentication problem (With profile from IPCU)

    Hi!
I'm in the processes of setting up a new wireless network for a costumer.
A little info about the hardware:
    Cisco WLC 5508
    Cisco AP 2602i
    Cisco ISE - radius server
    ipads gen 4 (iOS 6)
EAP-TLS (windows machines) and PEAP (Other stuff, ipads, andriod etc) as authentications methods
The radius server is using a server certificate from thier own PKI infrastructure therefor i need to push the root certificate of their CA to the clients in order to verify the authentication server. For this I use the iphone/ipad configuration utility.
I use the Use Per-connection password option
User that are allowed to connect are placed in a specific group in there AD.
The problem that I have is:
When a user thats not allowed to connect tries to authenticate to the network the ipad says stop and thats the way it supposed to be.
BUT after someone has faild to authenticate to the network and somebody else tries to connect the ipad only ask for a password and not a username.
I cant seem to get rid of this popup and therefor the ipad cant connect.
If I don't use the profile I can forget about the network and after that i can connect with a different user.
But then i can't verify the server-certificate and use the option per-connection password!
    Please help!
Has someone else seen this type of bug.
    //Simon

Hi, I am new with 802.1x, and was hoping that someone would help with these queries:
    1. How is a certificate requested without being allowed on a network that is not authenticated with 802.1x. I had to first connect to an active network, retrieve a certificate with the proper username and password, and then physically connect to the port on the 2950 switch which was enabled to do 802.1x
    2. My config is as below:
    aaa new-model
aaa authentication dot1x default group radius
aaa authenication login default group radius
    dot1x system-auth-control
    interface f0/1
    switchport mode access
    dot1x port-control auto
    end
I able to login using the radius server, so radius is working (on ports other than f1/0). However when connecting to f1/0, the port on the 2950 remains blocked.
    3. The certificate is issued by the ca server, is viewable via Internet explorer, and is issued to the correct username which is on the active directory.
I even tried using local authenication with 802.1x, this did not work
    4. If I have a certificate, will this automatically give me access to the 802.1x port?
    5. I have windows 2000, and authenication is set to 'Smart Card or other certificate.
    Am I missing anything?
Any advise will be greatly appreciated

  • 802.1x RADIUS authentication problem with Cat 2950 to CiscoSecure ACS 3.3

I wondered if anyone can help or shed any light on the following problem.
I am getting an authentication error when doing a RADIUS authentication to CiscoSecure ACS 3.3 running on a Windows 2003 server, the authentication request is coming from a Catalyst 2950 switch which is doing 802.1x for Windows XP clients. This problem only happens when the XP client connects to 2950 switches, Cat 3550s and 3560s work fine.
The Cat2950 is running 12.1.20 (EA1) which is more or less the latest IOS.
The error I get from ACS 3.3 is "Invalid message authenticator in EAP request" when the 2950 tries to authenticate an XP client for 802.1x to the ACS server using RADIUS.
Doing a RADIUS and 802.1x debug on the 2950 I see a message about 'Unknown EAP type', I am using PEAP on the XP client doing EAP-MS-CHAPv2 authentication, the same XP client authenticates fine with 3550 and 3560 switches problem only affects 2950s. Can anyone confirm the 2950 supports EAP-MS-CHAPv2?
I have checked and re-checked the shared secret and it definitely matches on 2950 and ACS.
One thing I noticed in the RADIUS debug is the 2950 sends 18 bytes for attribute 79 when the RFC defines attribute 79 should be 3 bytes or less, I don't know if this is related to the problem or is correct behaviour.

    4. If I have a certificate, will this automatically give me access to the 802.1x port?
    5. I have windows 2000, and authenication is set to 'Smart Card or other certificate.

  • WLAN with 802.1x

    Hi!
Since the sw upgrade to version 7.3.101.0 (wlc 5508) i have the following issue.
We have a WLAN with 802.1x (WPA2/AES) secured. Before the update the users need to enter user/ pw every time when they reconnect (WLAN switch off/ on again) to the WLAN.
Now the users don`t need to enter user/ pw when they reconnect to the WLAN.
I could not find any setting on wlc to clear this issue.
    Thank you for your help!

So i think there is now way, because the client devices are not managed (e.g. smartphones).
What i try is this setup:
    Layer 2 Security:
    WPA+WPA2
    WPA2 Policy
    AES
Authentication Key Management set to 802.1x
    Layer 3 Security:
    Web Policy/ Splash Page
...connection is working, but user don`t need to re enter credentials after reconnect (ipad; galaxy 3..)
