X60 battery suddenly died

Hi - my battery just died from one day to the next. It is frozen at 30% but the moment I remove the mains cable the battery dies...so there is no electric connection between the battery and the laptop. Any idea why? It was working fine yesterday and the battery holds 2-3 hours charge no problem. I wonder if this is a software problem? But then why would the power be 30%?
Many thanks for any help.

Reckon you're right, there's a problem with the battery - fused or sudden death for some reason. I've just ordered a replacement so hopefully I'll be able to prolong the life of this super X60 beast I've had for 9ish years now!
Thanks again

  • MacBook Pro Battery suddenly dying

    Hi all,
    I've had my MBP now for just about 3.5 years. It's a 2.4 GHz C2D, 4GB RAM mid-2009 model. It's currently running 10.8.2 (I keep up-to-date quite religiously).
Anyhow, my battery life has always been quite decent -- lasting variably between just under 2 hours and 3.5 hours. I try to be quite cognizant of what is "good" for the battery by avoiding constant charging and occasionally letting it drain to 0% in order to recalibrate. In the last several weeks, it's "condition" appeared to start deteriorating..at least according to Mac OS X's discretion, and changed to "Replace Soon." This worried me, so I installed the "Battery Health" app and consulted iStat Pro to see what they were telling me; both indicated that my battery was still an upper 80% in health.
This brings me to yesterday. I had taken my MBP all over with me throughout the day with no issue, and then brought it back to my apartment that evening. I left it charging and took a 1 hour nap. When I woke up, the charger indicated green but the battery indicator was flashing when I clicked it; when I opened my computer, it had a "charged" symbol but was at 0%. The condition had also suddenly changed to "Replace Now." In other words, if I disconnect the charger at all, the computer immediately dies.
Do y'all have any advice about what could have caused this so suddenly and dramatically, and whether it's at all remediable without getting a battery replacement (this model doesn't let you easily replace the battery)? To speak the obvious, it's incredibly inconvenient and ultimately untenable, but I'm not sure if I can hold Apple at fault since it's obviously OOW.
    Thank you!

Thanks for your response, Csound1. I am confused, however, at your assertion that Li-ion batteries need not, and even should not, be recalibrated by draining them (as opposed to Nicad). This really flies in the face of what I have learned, heard, and read over the past several years. Note just a couple sources:

Try different USB Cable, try different Charger. Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. If still problem and you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, most likely it could be battery or charging port assembly that need replacement.

  • How come all of a sudden my iPod touch 5th generation battery is dying so fast?

I'm very picky on how I charge my battery because I don't want to complete kill my battery. But all of a sudden my battery is dying fast. Overnight, it kills about 30 percent with no apps open. It used to last all day but now it doesn't even last half the day

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

my phone suddenly died and work only by charger please help

That would mean the battery has failed and the iPhone needs to be taken to an Apple store genius bar for testing.  Call/email ahead for an appointment to speed your time there.
Make a backup, preferably in iCloud, before going in case they want to replace the iPhone...if they do that they can restore the backup from iCloud to the replacement iPhone.

  • Why did my iphone suddenly die?

I bought this iphone two weeks ago and now it suddenly died. It will turn on by pressing the power button and when it is connect to the charger. No beeping sound is signed that it is connected. It seems to be completely dead. Is there anyway of reviving this? Stressed.

Without full diagnostic testing no one can say why it behaved that way.  Could have been the battery overheated, misbehaving software, a number of reasons.
Worth trying if it happens is to plug the iPhone into the wall charger, then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, release the buttons and let it proceed through its startup routine.

  • X220 battery sudden death

Hi, my quite new x220 with 9-cell  battery  was working perfectly fine last week and the battery life was excellent with the battery condition at somewhere around 90%.
The laptop was left to hibernate for bit less than a week and when I tried turning it back on it had no life, finally I connected the power supply and the laptop started but the power manager showed that the battery has failed due to normal wear.
This seems really strange considering the battery was perfectly fine the last time I used it and the cycle count is just 10. As the laptop is used the battery is allready out of warranty and I really would not like to buy new battery when the other one was basically unused.
So is there anything I could do or do I have to buy a new one?

This is almost known issue. Lenovo consider different battery manufacturers as "similar" battery component but the quality differs significantly. The best are Panasonic ones, the worst Sanyo. Unfortunately there is no way to get battery made by exact manufacturer.
You have to buy a new one, Lenovo does not care about well-known failing components. I am sure you can find more related reports about Sanyo batteries (made for Lenovo) https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/9-Cell-Battery-just-DIED-not-by-normal-wea...
You might try to complain about poor battery quality in General Discussion forum http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/bd-p/Special_Interest_General
I was also "lucky" to get the Sanyo one in my X220 so I'm waiting for its sudden death as well. There is nothing I can do about that.

  • IPad suddenly died

My IPad suddenly died and won't reboot.  It was at 75% battery before it turned off.  I held down the on / off button and the select button together for 30 seconds,  plugged in a power cord - and still won't reboot.  The IPad is only about 1 year old!  Can I try anything else to get it to reboot?

    Hey Sandy533,
Thanks for the question. Have you tried resetting the iPad while it was connected to a power source that has sufficient output? You may want to let it charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to reset it:

If iPad won't turn on, or the display stops responding
Follow these steps, testing after each:
    1. Turn the iPad off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Reset iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • 5800 suddenly died.

anyone knows how to fix my 5800? when i plug in my earphone my 5800 suddenly died. and every time i try to qwitch it on, it just vibrate and wont turn on.

Is the battery fully charged ? Remove it for about 30 secs. Insert it and see if the phone switches ON.. If not connect the charger.. Try switching ON after about 10 minutes of charging ( keep the charger connected when you switch ON..)
If both these do not work.. try the Hard Reset..

Sorry to inform that if you have not kept any back-up.. then you are bound to lose your data..
If this also does not help.. take the phone to Nokia Care..

  • Battery has died and am not sure why

Hi, my macbook battery has completely died and I cant work out why, I accidently let it run to empty and now when it only works when connected to the adaptor and the battery icon in the top right simply has a X in it and it doesnt register that theres a battery there. The battery is securly fastened and wasnt removed at all before this happened, Ive taken it off and wiped the connectors, but there was no obstruction of anykind and its not been near water or anything. Can any one help, will I need to take it to an apple store or is there something else I can do? Many thanks
PS in the 'power' section of the 'more info' bit it simply reads:
    Battery Information:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 0
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 0
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 0
    Battery Installed: No
    Amperage (mA): 0

weird. I don't know what to say.
it doesn't matter if you leave it to die because no matter what it should work.
I'm a student with a low health battery caused from constant use so my laptop dies completely 5 times a day and the battery still works for 4 years.
leaving the battery to die should be a problem.
the X definitely means your battery is dead. this could have been caused by a sudden electric shock, maybe while you were away. since you already cleaned your battery it means it is still dead. get a new one.
p.s. Merry Christmas to you all!!!

My phone suddenly is staying lit up while in standby and battery is dying quickly

  • Battery probably died?

    Hello,
Yesterday, I put a dvd in my mac book pro while running on battery. suddenly, the mac shut down! Since then my battery seems died because as soon as i unplugged the computer, it shut down directly even if the battery shows a 9 percent filled.
My computer is from the US, I came back for one week to europe and did use an adapter(us-europe) but not a voltage transformer. I have checked the mac transformer and it can support voltage from 100 to 250v, so I don,t think this could be the reason.
    I am under apple care.
Is this really a battery problem?
    Would my battery be changed?
Can I still use my computer with the plug until I get the new battery?
Where can I check the battery life on my computer?
    Many thanks!
    Aude-Line

You can get the battery data from the Power tab in System Profiler. You can use the computer without the battery but the CPU will run at 50%. Have you calibrated your battery recently? The instructions are in your manual.

  • Why does my fully charged iPad 2 battery keep dying at 50% charge? I have updated to iOS 7 and this started happening. What could be the cause of it?

My iPad's battery keeps dying. When I plug it in and put it back on, the screen shows a drained battery. After a few moments it boots up. However, when I check the battery charge, it's at 52% or so. Can someone tell me what's causing this? And what can I do to fix it?

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • HT5012 I have a first generation Iphone 5 and my question is why is my phone heating up so bad to the point where its almost to hot to touch on the back. On top of that the battery is dieing so fast that it usually lasts about 3 hrs on a full charge. Help

So basically my iPhone 5 has been heating up so bad that it feels like its about to over heat and die. I've never had this happen to any other of my iPhones.  On top of that the battery is dying so fast that on a full charge is lasts about 3 hrs give or take. Ive tried closing all my apps like i usually do anyways, i tuned down the light, I've reset it and booted it back up, reset it and used iCloud backup, ext... Nothing is working. I'm to the point where i  almost want to get a new phone. I even tried calling apple support and they couldn't help me cause from what it sounded like they had no idea what they were doing. If anyone has any comments on how to fix this i would greatly appreciate it . I do love apple products and i have a upgrade and plan on upgrading my phone when the new one comes out but for the time being IDE like to fix the phone i have now that I've only had for a little bit anyways. Thanks

You are probably going to have to take a trip to the Apple Store, but you can also make sure that:
Bluetooth is turned off when not in use
Location Services are only turned on for those locations that you want a constant update to
Background App Refresh is turned off
    Automatic Downloads is turned off
Cellular Roaming is turned off when you don't need it
Go through your Settings and take a look at all of the settings to determine if you have any turned on that may be using a lot of battery, and which you really don't need.
    Cheers,
