X60 - no wireless adapters recognized, xp sp3

Hey Guys! Since this is my first post I really hope anybody can help.
I own an x60s(1703). I reinstalled Win xp from the RnR but now it says that there aint any wireless devices. I've installed all the recent drivers necessary and yes, did hardware-switch it on when i hit Fn-F5 it says that there are no devices installed(nor even bluetooth). there is no device shown apart from the intel wired adapter and the firewire. no unknown devices or such reporting any problems. wired connection works fine and apart from that i do not recognize any problems.
i even tried ubuntu-live-environment but even there no wireless device was recognized.
Any suggestions to this major issue?
regards

Sorry for lack of response, I've been away for a while so haven't been back here!
I've tried both Intel and Atheros drivers, none seem to do anything at all.
There is no unknown device in the device manager.
I'm still feeling a bit stuck so here's a bit more info, hope it helps!
There is a switch on the left side of the notebook for quickly enabling/disabling the wireless adaptor. Even when switched to 'on' the little indicator light stays off.
I'm not the only user of the laptop so I'm wondering if there's any way someone else may have disabled the wifi adapter in the same way that many desktop motherboards BIOSes will allow users to enable/disable on board peripherals? I have checked the BIOS but there are no wifi-related options.
Also, are there any other drivers/utilities that must be installed before the OS can find the wifi adaptor?
Thanks for your help!

  • Simple question about wireless adapters

I have recently acquired a original Bondi Blue iMac G3 that I have upgraded to os x 10.3. I would like to have this machine run wirelessly, so I brought out a spare linksys wireless adapter I had lying around (Model # WUSB54G ver. 4) to see if it might work. It didn't, as I expected it not to.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to make this adapter work with my original iMac
    Thanks!

I doubt that you will be able to use that adapter. USB wireless adapters require Mac OS drives. Linksys does not have a record of even recognizing that Macs exist.
A much better way to get your iMac wireless capability is to get an Ethernet wireless adapter. These require no drivers therefore they work with any Ethernet device regardless of OS.

  • Can I use powerline wireless adapters with airport extreme

can I use power line wireless adapters with airport extreme?

    Can this work?
    Yes
I read somewhere that powerline adapters are not compatible with Airport.
    That information is not correct.
If the AirPort Extreme is already set up as your "main" router, you would connect a short Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Extreme to the power line adapter.
Locate another adapter in the area where you want to use the AirPort Express and connect a short Ethernet cable from the adapter to the Express.
Configure the Express to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same security settings and and same password as the AirPort Extreme network and select the Bridge Mode setting for the Express so that it work correctly on the network.

  • OS X Lion Compatible USB Wireless Adapters

I, like many others (https://discussions.apple.com/message/18383471?tstart=0), have been having a very hard time staying connected to my wireless network in Lion.
This only happens on my iMac, my MBP is fine.
Sometimes it's not too bad, sometimes my iMac is just unuseable because it cant stay connected for more than a second.
I can sometimes get around it by:
    - disabling / enabling Wifi
    - restarting my router
    - restarting my Mac
Obviously all of this is a massive hindrance on my productivity as a web designer and is very frustrating, especially when none of these methods even solve my problem.
Anyway, rant over. Does anyone know of any USB wireless adapters that work on OS X? As I'm having trouble finding a straight answer online.
Also please note, I posted a message similar to this several months ago and people started trying to fix my Wifi problem instead of recommending USB adapters. I am through with trying to resolve this issue manually, it has resulted in far too much wasted time and I've completely lost patience with it. Also it seems impossible to fix, seeing as there are over 120 pages of problems in the thread I posted above
If anyone could advise me on the best USB solution that would be great.

I’m interested in some feedback as well. I have an iMac and want to install Lion but I don’t want to have to deal with a bunch of issues other than what has been posted on the Adobe web site under “Known Issues Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion”. I will be purchasing a new MacBook Pro this week, it has Lion preinstalled and want to install CS5 so some feedback would be awesome. Thanks

I would suggest checking out some of the wireless USB adapters provided by Other World Computing (OWC). They have a number of models to choose from. The link is to just one of their offerings.

  • Wireless adapters HELP

Hi i have a few wireless adapters one is a linksys wusb54gc and the other is a buffalo pci wireless pci adapter WLI2-PCI-G54S. Please help me find software or help me make this work! Thanks!!!!
Message was edited by: My g3 dose not have video

Suitability of these products with your vintage of PPC computer and OS X version
may be part of the situation, and adding to the problem of using them to connect.
If you are familiar with mucking about in Terminal, the first wireless adapter may
(or not) be configured to work in at least OS X 10.4.11 after changing the driver.
Though this link suggests Intel-based Mac (and later OS X systems) one PPC G4
owner replied and had managed to make the suggested modifications work:
    http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=151237
The indication is, the linksys item may prefer at least OS X 10.4.11 to work correctly
unless there are older driver installers for 10.3.9. And, if your linksys model number
happens to end in an S, that implies 'speedboost' technologies; and not likely to be
compatible with Panther, or other Mac OS X in PPC computers. (That adds a twist.)
The second wireless adapter, the Buffalo, (like the first one) depends on chipset and
driver availability; if it is too new, the support for OS X 10.3.9 may not be there. Unless
you can find the complete correct driver/installer or go into their driver & modify it.
With a PCI card, at least you get away from the USB issues that face using that kind of
wireless adapter; since older Macs with USB1.1 ports can't really use USB2.0 items.
The slow port speeds diminish the connectivity of that kind of device; where the PCI
card version is better when drivers are available; or if you can re-write the driver.
    And most drivers listed for your PCI card point to a Windows XP/Vista system;
a few suggest a later Intel-based Mac running Windows; then it works in 10.4.11+.
The Buffalo PCI card product model number has an "S" also, & different drivers apply
when using this one, compared to the model number without the final letter in it. After
reading around online for awhile, it would appear you could do better in choosing an
upgrade product by checking through Mac-friendly resellers, such as Other World
Computing, & if necessary email or call, to discuss the details before buying anything.
Maybe someone with more experience in these products will have suggestions on
what route to take, at this point. Perhaps a more suitable brand of PCI wireless card.

  • E4200 router, wmp600n wireless adapters and mapped drives with wpa2 don't work!

    Sigh
    I have a file server running windows 2003 and five computers (1 windows 7, 4 windows xp-sp3).
There are two shares on the server.
When the router is setup with wpa2, three of the windows xp machines will have problems with mapped drives. Directly after the drives are mapped, everything works, but 10 or so hours later, users can no longer access these mapped drives and there is no way to reconnect them it seems.
The other two machines (windows 7 and one windows xp machine) have no problems whatsoever.
The only thing that the three computers have in common is that they are also sharing a printer (an hp j4680) attached to one windows xp machine (not the server).
If I set everything to wpa, everything works fine, but of course my wireless network speeds drop to 56mbps.
    Thoughts?

Peanut, I appreciate your effort, but I don't think you truly understand what is going on.
FWIW and for those experiencing similar oddities, On a mixed network of Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 7 machines, several Windows XP machines would on boot up decide that the router was the master browser. This made file shares on the server inaccessible to these machines. All machines were using wmp600n adapters.
All computers had excellent signal strength and could access the internet without fail.
What was not immediately evident to me was I was also having email issues where certain XP machines could not receive or send (sometimes one, sometimes both) pop email. I suspected it was a port blocking issue by the ISP since this problem was intermittent.
What was clear though is that in each of the machines that exhibited the problem that computer was seeing the browser as the browser master. So finally, I swapped out the router with another branded router. This is not the only case of this router behaving this way--in my searches I have run into several other people who have had issues with file sharing so I don't know if it is a model deficiency or firmware issue.
All I know is the all the problems went away with the router switch.  File shares work. Email works.
So, I got a bad router that appeared to function properly--assuming this is not the case with other e4200s. I will know after RMAing this one.

  • X60 Micro Wireless Switch

I have an X60 (1706) that is pretty darn old and has worked great for years. I believe the micro wireless switch has failed on it. Mechanically, it works but I assume it has failed electronically. I have been having issues on and off (no pun intended) with it for a couple of months. I took the laptop apart and it appears that the switch needs replacing. In Linux live CD boot, it says the wireless switch is off.
I assume the part is not an FRU. Is that correct?
A replacement motherboard is the only thing?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OK, but you could still solder a shunt (or even just wrap a few strands of fine wire) across the switch. I can't recall the last time I actually had the need to turn the WiFi/BT radios off using the mechanical switch. Besides there's always Fn-F5.
It's also possible that the reason why the switch works intermittently is because the plastic button is broken. If that's the case then the eBay solution would address that.

  • Z60m Wireless killed by XP SP3

I just installed Win XP SP3 - which turned out to be a mistake. It seems there is an issue with SP3 affecting some wifi. Sure enough the Intel 2200bg card in the Z60m will now not power on the wireless radio.
Can anyone suggest a way out of this?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
If you're certain that there's a connection between SP3 and your 2200BG going nuts, just un-install the SP3.
    Good luck.

  • Recommendations on wireless adapters.

I need to connect my Mac Pro (specs in signature) to a wireless network.  Can anyone recommend a reliable but fairly cheap solution?  I've seen a few USB adapters on Amazon in the $10-$20 range, but I'm a little skeptical as to whether something that cheap will do the job adequately.  Thoughts?
    Thanks.

My Seagate wireless + disk will not be recognized by any computer (Mac or windows) any longer!
Wireless functions, but data cannot be accessed.
How can this be fixed? How can I retrieve the data? Any suggestion?

I used two Macs (MacBook Pro & Air)  with Mountain Lion, one windows XP and one Windows 7.
I also tried two different cables. All with the same result!
Seagate offers to replace the disk, which is correct. The problem is the recovery of the data.

  • Mypassport Wireless not recognized through USB on my Mac

I can connect to my Mypassport Wireless fine, but it's not seen through USB on my Mac.  I've done a manual reset several times.  And the Lock setting is off.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Btw, it's been working fine on both my two Macs for the past week since I've bought it.  I've also been plugging it into the USB port of the laptop while powered on and Finder recognized it right away.  Now, all of a sudden, neither laptop can see it through USB.  I've tried the manual reset, and then powered it down, plugged it into the USB port, and it automatically wakes up, but Finder doesn't show it.  Please help.  Thanks.

  • DPC Latency issues using wired or wireless adapters

I am experiencing terrible audio popping and skips on my HP Desktop when playing iTunes music or watching a video streamed from the internet.  I used the DPC Latency Checker and discovered that both the wired LAN adapter and wireless adapter were causing the problem. When I go into Device Manager and disable the drivers for both adapters the problem goes away.  When I enable either driver the problem comes back.  It's definitely being caused by the network adapter drivers.  I've enabled/disabled all the other drivers on my PC and its pointing to the network adapters. But the network adapters are from different manufacturers.  Realtek for the wired and Ralink for the wireless.  I've updated both drivers and it didn't fix the problem.  My only conclusion is both adapters must be connected to the motherboard and something within the mohterboard is causing the problem. If anybody as some feedback it would be greatly apprecaited.  I don't want to buy another PC.  But I can't seem to solve the problem.

Hello , I have read your post on how your desktop computer is experiencing an audio popping and skipping sound when playing iTunes music or streamed videos, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! Since you have already re-installed the audio drivers for your computer, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point before the issue occurred. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

  • Satellite 1410-S173 continually freezes when using wireless adapters

I just recently got a hold of an older Satellite, the 1410-S173 model.  Runs really good as long as you dont plug in a wireless adapter.  Have tried both a USB USR wireless G adapter and Windows XP just BSODs fairly quickly.  Tried a Encore Elec. 802.11g Wireless PC Card Adapter in the slot and that one will at least work, but for some reason when it is in the machine about every other minute or so, the whole system just freezes dead for about 5-10 secs and then un-freezes.  It continues this as long as you have the adapter in.  You take the adapter out and use an ethernet cable with the internal NIC and runs just fine, no locks.  I have reinstalled Windows fresh with a formatted drive and same thing.  I have reseated memory, reseated HDD.  Ran diags and still same thing.  Anyone have an idea for me ?
    Appreciate Any thoughts !!

That's a really old model. Perhaps you should stick with the a or a/b adapters.
