It's have pci and sim slot   X61 Can add MC8775 or not ?  Please recommend me about link document
Thank You
Keng

Any 2.5" 9.5mm or 7mm thick SATA drive will work. A 7,200rpm HDD will be faster than a 5,400rpm unit. An SSD will be much, much faster still.
You can upgrade the BIOS to support SATA-II speeds by looking for the so-called Middleton BIOS. Use Google to find the download on notebookreview.com.

  • X61 3G Wireless WAN Configuration

    Deal All,
Does anybody knows how to configure the 3G Wireless WAN Setting?
I understand that there is a Sim Card Slot behind the laptop, but don't know how to configure it.
    Anybody can help?
    Thanks..

Yes you need a WWAN card too, preferably one on the X61 BIOS 'whitelist', and the antenna.
If you configured your X61 with the WWAN card, then there is already a SIM card ready to be activated, and the provider's connection manager (AT&T in the USA) will have been installed for you in the factory. There is normally an activation nag which appears every couple of restarts.
The SIM card is under the same cover as the memory cards.
If you did not factory configure the WWAN, you can add it later, but it is a pain. Not only do you need a WWAN card, but you need to install the antenna around the screen. It's possible, but not easy. If you use a WWAN card which is not on the BIOS whitelist, you need a hacked BIOS.
I totally recommend getting the WWAN setup configured when you buy an X61, even if you only think you MIGHT need it in the future. It is not that easy to add later.

  • Question about replacement hard drives and clean win7 install fo x61

We are getting a X61-7674 from my wife's job- they are removing the original hard drive so I need to get a new one and do a fresh install of Windows 7.
Two questions-  can I get any laptop hard drive or are there certain brands that won't work with the x61- I have looked at the prices on the Lenovo site vs. newegg so would like to be able to buy a generic 2.5 drive.
second question- in terms of doing a clean install of windows 7, what is the sequence for installing drivers- assume I load w7 first- what drivers will I need to load- do I have to put them on a thumb drive to load them? Basically wondering what will work once I have loaded W7 and what drivers i'll need to download.
Would appreciate any help on either question-
    Thanks.

    1) you can use any 2.5 inch sata hdd of 9.5 mm thickness.
    2) Windows update should pick up most of the hardware and install the correct drivers for them. However, there are still some stuffs that you have to install yourself. Such as:

  • X61 WWAN can I replace preinstalled card from Verison to GSM type.

    Hi,
I have a new x61 I have purchased in the USA, with a preinstalled wwan card for Verison services in the USA, however, my mobile services provider is Orange, 3G GSM system.
My x61 model # is 7675-59U and is equipped with an auxiliary antena attached to the right side of the screen (telescopic one).
OS Windows XP PRO, 4GB Ram (only 3 usable).
My question is: can I change/replace the existing preinstalled Verison card (by Sierra) with another card which will work with GSM providers, I have found available, unlocked, Sierra GSM wwan cards  #MC8775 on Ebay, these are the cards listed at the Lenovo System Service Parts list.
    Will the Bios support it?
Will the existing aux. antena support it?
If yes, what else (beside a contract with the providers) would I need to be able to configure it and activate the services.
    Thank you!
    Avi.

I have not done this myself but based on the specs and other posts you can do this.
If you buy a non-Lenovo aftermarket MC8775 you will need a hacked BIOS to stop the startup warning error (search for Zender).

  • May I know how to check whether my WWAN is HSDPA or EV-DO Verizon?

Hi I just bought a new IBM Lenovo Thinkpad X61. The type is 7675-4KU.
May I know how to check the WWAN is HSDPA or EV-DO Verizon?
After I install the driver, how should I do to connect to internet using WWAN??
    Thank You.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

All X61's have the SIM slot, whether they have a WWAN card or not.
You would also see the WWAN card under Vista: right click Computer > Properties > Device Manager > Network adapters.
If the Advanced button under ThinkVantage System Information is disabled, either something is wrong with your ThinkVantage Productivity Center setup, or you have a permissions problem.
I doubt that you have a WWAN card. Your system does not have one by default. You would have had to ask for one to be added when you bought it.

  • X300 WWAN - works in XP, fails in Windows 7

There have been a few threads on WWAN and Windows 7 but I can’t find an answer to my problem. I haven't been able to get my Sierra WWAN card + Vodafone UK (pre-pay) to work with Windows 7. I had more or less given up but thought I'd have one last try. Fortunately, I still have dual boot into XP available and the card works under XP, so it isn't a hardware or SIM card issue. When I try with WIn7 and the latest drivers from the download site, it just won't connect. It tries for ages and gives up. The XP and Win 7 drivers are the same version. The error messages from Access Connections are: Error Code 068 1) Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or sign-up period is expired. Please contact your service operator or click on "Repair" button for sign up. 2) The mobile station is requesting a service option for which it has no subscription. Please contact your wireless WAN service provider. I can’t find anything useful via Google on this – can anyone help? Rgrds, F

my problem wasn't exactly the same, but somewhat the same. i have an at&t 3g wireless adapter that wouldn't work with windows 7.  i don't use access connections.  the adapter came with a sierra wireless utility so i brought up the utility and it connected okay with it.  i also have an azio 802.11n usb adapter that windows 7 can't connect with. so i use the utility that came with it and it works okay.  i know that access connections kinda takes over everything so i wonder if you were able to use the sierra connect utility whether it would work or not.

  • Lenovo X300 WWAN card

I know that the Lenovo x300 supports the Verizon and IBM WWAN cards, but I need to know is it possible to get a Sprint card that will work in the Lenovo x300.

    Hello,
I have done some deep research on this matter for myself, I have an x61 and would like to swap the factory installed wwan card with a gsm card by Sierra but not with Lenovo FRU.
The Thinkpad bios will not accept parts other than the ones approved by lenovo and on which there is lenovo FRU#, even if from the same manufacturer, the "Whitelist" is here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62906
if you would install a generic part non lenovo approved, the bios will not boot the system, give you an error message  and tell you to remove the card.
There is a solution for this issue, it can be found here:  http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=55837&start=300
but it involves flashing your machine with a modified bios which could be risky.
I am going to try it because my preinstalled wwan card is for services by Vrison in the USA, I need a GSM card for Europe and other locations with GSM providers only, I will remove the original which is useless for me and replace it with a non Lenovo Sierra MC8775 WWAN HSDPA 3G card and flash the bios.
    Hope this helps

  • X61 wireless problem

Hi, I bought a "new" x61 and I have some problems with the wireless pci card. In the first PCI slot isn't even seen from the system (both linux and windows xp), I tried to change it to the second PCI slot and finally the system finds and install it but windows keep giving me "This device cannot turn on (Code 10)" and Linux "The device is hard switched off". The front switch is turned on and the wireless card is enabled in the BIOS, I even tried using the wireless card from another x61 which i know it works but nothing change. Wireless card is the original Intel 4965ag and I tried both with the last official bios 2.22 and with the one from this forum with sata2 and whitelist removed.
I'm starting to think that the problem is in the mainboard.

Hi tatarimoke and welcome to the community,
If you have Hotkeys installed, what  is shown if you press Fn + F5?  Are you able to turn it on from there?
Installing the card in the second slot makes it the same as a WWAN card.  You would need to install Access Connections in order to turn it on from there.

  • WWAN - Sierra Wireless MC5725 Modem

    Dear All,
    Is it possible to help?
I bought Lenovo X61, 7675-K2U, Windows XP with built in from Lenovo Verizon Sierra Wireless 1xEV-DO Network Adapter, Hardware version MC5725 with antenna and all other necessary things. I am using my Laptop in the Europe, actually in Latvia where are available such providers as: Tele2, Bite (partner of Vodafone), LMT (partner of Telia Sonera). I would like to use WWAN services in my country and I am going to understand that I must to change my current adapter to WWAN Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA adapter. Is it right way and it helps and is it possible to change?
    Thank you and best regards,
    xAlexx

Your provider may have their own WWAN software (in the case of Vodafone it is Mobile Connect, for AT&T it is Communication Manager, etc. Vodafone even have a Lenovo-specific version of their Mobile Connect).
Or you can use Sierra Wireless' 3G Watcher.

  • X61s 3G Network Communication Possible?

Hi, I have got an X61s notebook. Now, I am interested in getting it working with local 3G networks.
How can I reveal that my X61s can work in this mode?
So far I have learned, there are some models equipped to, but some are not.
To clear up would be questions concerning 1/ locating / positioning a SIM card; 2/ availability of an antenna; 3/ buying a modem card; 4/ activating the 3G mode.
Please, can it be helped anyway?
    THX
PS. If no answer comes, I will merely have to buy a USB G3 dongle, alas. - However, I have always considered an IBM PC to be a marvel. However, if a G3 modem being integrated, any add-ons are not quite reasonable...;-)
On the other hand, they say, in specs, that Verizon Wireless is deemed as service provider, which is not in Europe.
    Wireless Broadband (WWAN)
    Generation 3G
    Technology CDMA 2000 1X EV-DO Rev. 0
    Service Provider Verizon Wireless
Does it make a difference while making use of a SIM card within a tablet that accepts nearly any SIM card from any provider possible?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Welcome to the forum!
If your X61 left the factory with WWAN, it will have a visible rectagular "bulge" on the RH side of the lid, and you'll be able to pull the antenna out of it.
Presuming that the antenna is not there, the simplest way to go about it is just to get a dongle for the provider of your choice.
    Cheers,

  • HSDPA RAdio on X61???

On the model 7674-cto there is a sim card holder. I also found on the driver page drivers and software.
    The question now is;
Does it have a HSDPA radio build in?
And what software should I use, Currently only Vodafone and another vendor where listed, but what if I am subscribe with another vendor.
Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have film

I've seen X61s with and without the SIM card holder which do not have UMTS / HSDPA.
A WAN card may or may not be installed, looking in device manager should answer this one.
Whether or not it is simple to upgrade, i.e. adding a WAN card, depends on the presence of the antennae cables, if they are not present it's major surgery time.
