X61 BIOS Settings - Help

I have recently purchased a second hand Lenovo X61 ThinkPad, the person who sold it to me has reinstalled windows from the recovery DVDs.
The laptop boots Windows no problem, but I have noticed that the following BIOS security settings are on:
‘Using PassPhrase’ – Enabled
‘BIOS Password At Unattended Boot’ – Enabled
‘Password Reset Service’ – In Progress
Not having the X61 BIOS user guide /laptop user guide (I cannot find this on Lenovo’s site) I’m not sure if these settings are normal or not?
If anyone can provide some further information I would be most grateful.
One extra piece of information (not sure if it makes any difference), the laptop is also fitted with a fingerprint reader.
Many thanks
Sparkey

Thanks, but please can you explain what these enabled /pending security settings do, or point me in the direction of a downloadable user manual (I have the hardware service manual from Lenovo's site) for the X61?
The ‘password at unattended boot’ setting worries me, as the BIOS help information implies that a password will be required when the computer returns from hibernation mode?

  • K7N2 Delta2 Platinum Bios settings help please

Please forgive me if I seem a bit stupid, but we all have to start somewhere.
As you can see from my signature although an old socket A set-up this should still perform pretty well when my son plays his games (Age of Empires 3) but the dam thing keeps crashing (back to the desktop) and performace is not what it should be.
I built the pc my self so I am ok to fiddle about with things but I am not as knowalgable as most people on this forum, So I would like someone to help me with some BIOS settings on this board, can anyone recommend some settings that would work well.

Having now read the excellent post by klondike on this board I want to update my bios to the 11.50 (B50) version.
I know about all the dangers of updating your bios but as I am having prob’s with my board and it seems like the B5 bios is better that the B4, I want to update it but I have tried now for 2 hours to update it and I am obviously doing something very wrong and it is doing my head in!
I have read the MSI guide to bios updating and others on this forum but I can’t get anything to even start to work.
I have downloaded and un-zipped the B50 bios update for my board. I have put the unzipped files in a folder in the C: drive I have named “test” I have made a dos floppy and set my bios to 1st boot floppy but when I boot to it at the A prompt you type C: (and enter) and it says bad file or command (I can’t remember which) so I then tried burning the bios files to a cd and once again after booting to the dos there is no option to get it to boot or find the cd drive you just get the A: prompt
I have also tried updating it though live update but live update says the latest version is 11.4 (B4) and that is what my board already has so I can’t update it from there as MSI have not updated their live update page.
I am almost at my wits end and feel like setting light to the dam thing, all I want to do is up date my bios its not that hard I have done it before on other pc’s but I can’t remember how I did it! (thats my age)
Please can someone spare me a few minutes to talk me though this.

Here is a good guide for your Bios settings :
    http://www.amdforums.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=186506
Your temps should be somewhere in the low 30's C idle and somewhere under 40C under load. That would be an average but not an absolute. I run 27 to 29C idle and in the mid 30's under full load.

  • 875P Neo FIS2R drive& bios settings help!!

    Greetings guys.
    Newbie here?
Would someone be so kind as to help me set up the following, using W2K as OS on the 875P Neo FIS2R board with P4 3.06 processor 2x512mb ram with a radeon 9700 and onboard sound, all the drivers etc are installed from the CD but am still using bios V1.2, not flashed it yet.......
I want my set up to be the following but I am having problems getting all my drives on the right chipsets.
IDE1= 1x120gb WD drive and 1x60gb drive for storage
    IDE2= Sony DVDR
ICH5R to be 2x37gb WD SATA individual drive not raided on ser 1&2
Promise to be 2x37gb WD SATA as raid 0 for my OS
but I cannot work out the Bios settings and how to acheive what I want, assuming it is possible to do it this way.
Yes I know the quantity of drives is OTT but I did a good deal with a local shop in exchange for the 4x37gb SATA HDD's
Please make it simple, it takes ages to sink into my head...

make sure the "AS raid" option is enabled in BIOS under intergrated peripherals then on-chip conf.
that should handel the promise controller.
then you will need to read the manual to manually set each conf listed.
    pg 3-24
    these settings may do it:
    ATA config set to P-ATA+S-ATA
    S-ATA set to enable
    P-ATA set to yes
    P-ATA set to Both
Combined mode depends on where you install OS: suggest SATA
if that, then S-ATA 1st ch.
    S-ATA RAID set to no
    try this,let me know

  • P55M-GD45 Memory BIOS Settings Help

    I5 750 (stock Cooler)
    Gskill DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH
    P55M-GD45 (latest BIOS)
I noticed after enabling XMP in the BIOS so the memory will run at 7-7-7-24 that the CPU frequency went from 133 to 160 I guess to get 1600 for the memory. I turned the Multiplier down to 17 to get 160X17=2.72ghz for the CPU. When it posted I noticed it said 160X17 2.72Ghz then a couple of lines down it said somethng like "OS SYSTEM 3.2Ghz".
I ran a few tests and found that with XMP enabled (CPU-Z) I was getting 3.8Ghz on a single core at 100% and 3.2Ghz whan all 4 cores were at 100%. I would get up to 80C and the VCore would hit 1.314.
With XMP turned off bois set to 133X20=2.66 CPU=Z says 133X21=2.72(four cores at 100% 63C and 1.232 Vcore) and 133X24=3.2(single core 100%)
Why does the system seem to ignore the multiplier with XMP enabled?
Can I change settings in the BIOS so the CPU runs closer to 2.66-2.8 with four cores at 100% and the memory timing at 7-7-7-24?

The I5 chip doesn't have the same memory multiplier as I7, so when you enable XMP for a 1600 profile the BIOS crank up the CPU multiplier to 160 and overclock the CPU heavily - that's the only way the BIOS can get the I5 to due the job!
There are several ways to get around this, and I have tried to get time to make a tutor about this. For now, just leave the multiplier at 17, or disable turbo mode and set it to 19 or 20, and you are on.
And - disable the OC in the BIOS, as it really can screw everything up.

  • BIOS Settings Help

    Heya
Recently built up a new comp and using a MS-7058 MB, I have a SATA HDD and an IDE CD. In the BIOS. it would be SATA pri./PATA sec...the SATA shows up as Primary IDE in the BIOS and CD as Secondary IDE. Thinking I have it right but double checking to make sure.
Also an suggestions on finding a high pitched noise...tried the ole mark 1 ear but hard to narrow down.
    D

Sorry I am not familiar with your specific board's BIOS, but I know that the BIOS calls all my HDD's ide drives.  I think thats just a quick in the BIOS.  Someday someone may update it.
Could be the noise is caused by a bad bearing in the cpu fan.  But check to make sure it is seated properly.
Do you hear the whine all the time?  Or just periodically?  Does it increase or decrease under heavy loading?
Sorry to be throwing out so many questions but just offering suggestions for you to consider.

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED (Bios Settings Failed)

    Hey Guys,
I am having problems with my MSI Board, and don't know what to do.  I am very much a noob to BIOS/and modding so I apologize in advance.  You guys helped me a few months ago getting everything up and running and all was great for months.  Then last night I walked away from my PC for a while and when i came back a starting screen was on saying my OC Settings Failed to load, i tried other versions I saved and they all failed as well.  I ended up loading failsafe options, and got the "double start" where the computer turns on, then instantly shuts off, then turns on again.  This allowed me to load windows 7, which then started to "install updates".   So i think while i was away Windows automatically updated and rebooted... but would that effect my BIOS settings?
As I said, I had my system running perfect for months no errors or crashes at all based on the Bios setting you guys help me with in this thread:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147854.0
However, last week I removed the heat sink and installed this cooler:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Water+Cooling-_-Corsair-_-35181010
All I did was unhook everything from the MB, install the cooler, and then hook everything back up to the MB.  The only thing I may have done wrong is not connect the SATA devices (my HDs and ROMS) back in the spots they were in originally.  However after I installed the cooler, they system booted right up, and I haven’t had any problems with my system for the past two weeks.  I also should note I didnt make any BIOS changes either after I installed the cooler.  So I don’t know if I should have done something there.   Yet, like I said the system has been fine for the past two weeks, no crashes or errors... it wasn’t until last night after Windows auto updated that this has begun.
The reason I need "URGENT HELP" is because of course I just a new job with deadlines due and so much video editing work I need to do.  I would be fine leaving it on failsafe settings, and forgetting the OC setting all together if I new that would make the system stable.  But considering its still doing the "double start" even in failsafe mode, im afraid if i start working my system will crash.
So I am begging anybody for any advice or help they could provide.  I will provide my system info below.  If anybody can guide me as to what settings I should set in BIOS i would appreciate it.  Or perhaps there’s a BIOS update that I should use now that I have a cooler and not a heat sink?  If you need any more information from me, just ask.  I will be monitoring this thread all day, as I desperately need help.

PROBLEM:  My OC BIOS setting wont load.  Even on failsafe i get the "double start".  I want to get back to my OC (stable) settings.
UPDATE:  Since I posted somebody messaged me mentioned I should have "reset the CMOS" after I installed the new cooler.  So I did that, and now they system starts fine without the "double start".  I am able to load one of my saved OC settings now as well (but any others causes a failure).
    NEW QUESTIONS:
          1.  Since I reset the CMOS and now the system is starting fine on my last OC settings, is it safe to assume the sytem is stable for now?
          2.  I never made any power changes or BIOS changes after I installed the new cooler.  Should I have?
          3.  After I reset the CMOS was I soupposed to reinstall the drivers from the MSI disk again?  I did not, and the system seems to be fine, but I thought I was soupposed to do that after a CMOS reset.
          4.  Is there a new BIOS version for my setup that may be better now?   Im currently on v1.5
Here is a screenshot from CPUZ of the system information currently.  This is with it booting normally after my CMOS reboot.  I just figured id post it incase it helps with any of my questions.  Thanks so much for helping guys!

  • Changed BIOS settings, Monitor won't turn on (Help with resetting CMOS)

    Hello,
I have an HP Envoy 700 PC Series. Running Windows 8.
Everything was working fine, until I changed/disabled some settings in the BIOS, an dnow the PC turns on without any display.
I need to reset my Bios settings.
I tried removing the CMOS battery for an hour, still the monitor doesn't turn on.
I tried playing with the jumpers (assuming I'm doing it right)..  Any pointers?!
Pc turns on normally without a display.  This all happened when I changed my BIOS settings.
    Any help would be great.
    Thank you

The fact that you removed the CMOS battery usually resets the BIOS so this may not be the problem, however, the computer must be left on for up to 24 hours to permit the battery to charge itself.
You may opt to try another monitor.

  • BIOS settings: please help

    Hello,
You can see my specifications below.
I have been busy for weeks with my graphic card to reduce it's crashing.
Now I hope that someone, seeing my specifications below, might be so kind to help me
with the system BIOS settings, who are still at "default values".
I do video editing, burning etc. but no gaming.
I don't intend extreme over clocking.
I have removed the NB-fan as reducing noise is important to me.
Could someone give me some system BIOS settings and values,
    for a good performance.
    tia
    Azerty

Seems we do something similar. See my signature for details. For me, it
worked out better to use 5:4 rate and to increase overclock the CPU only,
because MPEG2 encoding seems still to be CPU bound and mem performance
is not that big issue. The increase of speed is aproximately the increase of
    CPU performance.
To enable 5:3, you have to set DRAM timing from AUTO to 333. Still a clock
rate like 227 in my case is x15 fot the CPU but x4 /5 for the RAM, giving you
some potential with DDR400 RAM. In my case, the Corsair allow me 2-3-2-5-8
    at the rate.
For me, setting ram timings to SPD allows the MB to do a lot of nasty things.
MSI is somewhat nasty anyhow. 200 MHz FSB is 203. To get something like 200,
you have to set it to 201. I prefer manual settings. PAT is enabled and disabled
just like the board wants. A lot of different behaviours for different settings
and BIOS versions. I use 1.8. Here, PAT is alwasy disabled in 1:1 when you
set RAM timings manually. When setting it SPD, it will be on in Fast and up.
For me, PAT is switched on in 5:4 even in manual. Some say, in 5:4, PAT
can never be enabled. But for encoding, I saw no difference. For cutting, also.
Disable spectrum spread. Let PIC/AGP work at 33/66 fixed. To ackomplish this,
you might have to enable SATA, even if you don't use it. It's a bug. If you
anable Parallel only, you can set "keep yes fpr Serial" in IDE settings. Look for
other hints in this forum. (Sorry, just saw in your sig that you have SATA).
For the fan: I asked the question and a lot of people said it's no recomended to
simply switch off the fan. So I decided to by a cheap manual fan control. I use
it to reduce NB fan to minimum, so I nearly not hear it. I also have a case fan
that is alread reduced and reduced further by this control. The Zalman Cu
fan is also quite silent, I also reduce it. For cutting, no problems. CPU in idle
is about 35-38c (case 33c), will not go beyond 40-42c when cutting. When I do
encoding, it will raise. In this case I have to give aprox. half throttle (I normaly
leave the room for some 12-15 hours of encoding 90 minutes CBR 6500 and
switch them to full). Otherwise temps will raise to 60c (and crash). With a bit of
fan, they will stay at around 50c, which is ok.
If you have further questions, you can also email me.

Change your user config mode in dram configuration to manual and change your memory timing to 1T.  The 1T setting will speed up your memory slightly.

  • Help - Changed BIOS settings, now no video signal

Please help -- I changed my BIOS settings to "High Performance Defaults" and configured my boot sequence, etc. Now I get no video signal when I boot.
    Thanks,
    -RE

I presume you mean you can't get back into bios by holding down DEL. quickest way is to reset the JBAT1 jumper. /take power lead from PSU, remove JBAT1 from pins 1 & 2, put jumper on pins 2 c& 3 for 5 secs, then pur it back on pins 1 & 2, put power lead back in,  Boot, this will reset bios to defaults, you will need to enter setup at prompts and set your boot sequence etc. Did you have turbo on as well as high performance?  Better using Safe defaults, then using core center to see what you can set it up to.
    cheers

This topic has been moved to Intel P4/Celeron boards.

    Nope. Didn't work.
I can try things all day but this doesn't make sense. Surely someone knows what bios settings are required (especially on the MSI board site) to set the bios on a MSI 945p platnium motherboard. I have the sata drive plugged into the Sata 1 connector and bios still says it is ide channel 4 master. The computer will boot with just the sata drive plugged in but the problems start when I plug the ide drives in on ide 1 or 2 or 3.
