X61 Help installing ssd onto XP X61 machine

So I purchased a Samsung 840 ssd for my 7673-74u X61. My plan:
Fresh install of XP 32 bit
Install drivers
Install GT1 diagnostic software for BMW
Well I inserted the ssd into the X61 and the BIOS recognizes the ssd. In the BIOS settings I move the ssd up to #1 in the priority boot order. AHCI is enabled. Good.
I insert the XP disc into the optical drive in the dock (X61 has no opti dock). Windows runs through some driver installs then asks if I want to install XP to press enter. As soon as I do hit enter there's a msg that reads "no hard drive found".
I've attempted this 3 times with the same result and have given up for the day.
Can anyone give me instructions on how to install this ssd?

I know this is not what you want to hear, but I'll say it anyway:
XP on SSD is a very bad idea in my opinion, especially on a machine that is perfectly capable of running W7.
There is no TRIM support in XP, and there's way too much tweaking involved to get this combination to perform in a borderline acceptable manner.
If you *must* run XP for whatever reason, forget about AHCI and just install the OS in "compatibility" mode. The main reason for AHCI (enabling TRIM support) is a non-issue in XP anyway.
Good luck.
Cheers,
George

  • Need help installing photoshop onto new computer.....

Need some help installing photoshop onto my new computer. Way back when I was in college I purchased photoshop. It has worked fine for everything that I do, plus I know all the tricks to this particular version. It has only been installed on 2 computers before...both my own computers. Now we have a new computer because the last one broke & I haven't been able to download the program. I have the cd etc but wondering why I can't download it. Could it be because it is so old....?? It's Photoshop 4.0  I have several docs that I need to open but can't because they're in photoshop....ugh... Please someone help. Thanks!!

Photoshop version 4 (shipped 1996) or Photoshop CS4 (shipped 2008)?
The CS4 Trial version can be downloaded from

  • Help installing CS upgrade to new machine, old PS 5.0 cd not recognised as proof of ownership

Trying to rebuild a win XP system for my wife. Her machine with PS CS has crashed. When I install PS CS upgrade the install routine wants a PS 5.0 disc to verify the license. Then it give an error that "A qualifying version of Photoshop was not detected".
I tried phone support, they verified that we do own a valid copy of CS but could not help because the software is no longer phone supported.
So are we out of luck or can someone help out?
Thanks in advance if you can help.

Yes, you are qualified to download and install Photoshop CS2 free of charge, because activation for CS has ended and you can't install it anyway.  Check this link for details.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
Click on "Download and install CS2 Applications."
You will be given a link to the Photoshop CS2 download and a serial number to open it.

  • Need help installing apps onto iPad 2 (all apps appear as "waiting" ever since iOS 5.1)

Ever since I updated to ios 5.1 on my iPad 2, I've been experiencing a lot of difficulty in downloading and installing apps without the aid of my computer's iTunes. Every app that I've downloaded since the update has gotten stuck on waiting. Also, when I tap and hold apps (to sort and delete), I get the option to delete the waiting apps (it even warns me that I will delete all of its data off my iPad. What data?). Sometimes they show the icon, sometimes they just show white. Usually I get the icon after I reset, but still waiting. This also applies for any updates. What I have done to try to fix this:
    -reset the iPad
-delete the waiting app and try installing it again
    -check my Internet connection
-sign out and sign back in with my apple ID
-tap the waiting app to try to start it
-install only one app at a time
****I am well aware that I can sync to iTunes, so please do not tell me to do this. It does install the apps when I sync it to iTunes, but it's also very inconvenient to do every time, especially because I have so many apps (13 gb to be precise) and I'm usually away from my computer.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did some additional checkin' ; the same behavior applies when powering off ...
when starting up again after few secs it normally starts up (approx 20 secs). When starting up after approx an hour it takes about 2-3 minutes to respond ... weird ...
    anyone ideas ?

  • I have premiere elements 4.0  and have installed it on 2 PC's, which I have upgraded and am unable to install it onto my new PC.

Please help, I bought Premiere Elements 4.0 about 7 years ago and have upgraded my PC for a 3rd time and am unable to install it onto my new machine. Please can someone tell me how I can get it installed without having to buy a new version.

    sir don
    Several considerations.
Adobe allows you to use the same purchased activated serial number on no more than 2 of your computers. If you want to install that same purchased activated serial
number on a 3rd computer, then you are going to have to remove Premiere Elements 4 from one of those other computers. There is no Deactivation option within the opened 4 program, so I suspect the regular uninstall the Control Panel way will do the job. (There may be a deactivation message in the uninstall dialogs when you are uninstalling the program.)
What computer operating system does your new computer use? I have found Premiere Elements 4 to work on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit. But, I have not been
using it a lot lately except for troubleshooting for others here.
Please let me know if I have targeted your question. If not, please point out what I have not and give more details of what you seek.
    Thank you.

  • INstalling Labview application on vista machine.

As a fairly new programmer, I have written an application, in Labview 8.6, and constructed an installer which works fine on XP but when I try to install it onto a Vista machine, i get an error message as follows:
    z:\.....\Volume\setup.exe the parameter is incorrect.
As I say on XP Pro, no problem.  Does anyone have any ideas which might help?
    Solved!

I'm glad this works. It might also help to right-click the file on the network drive and select "Run as administrator". I didn't try it when I had the problem.

  • How do I install OSX onto a new SSD (in the place of my optical drive) without transferring all data across.  However, with the applications, system and library on the SSD to improve the speed, but keep non essential items (the home folder) on the HDD

I have a mid 2009 13 inch unibody 2.53GHz MacBook Pro.  I'm finding that it doesn't run as quickly as it used to.
A genius in the Apple store suggested that I replace my optical drive with an SSD, however only use the SSD for OSX, applications, system and library.  Keep all documents, pictures, music etc on the current hard drive.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with:
    1) installing OSX on the SSD without copying across data from the current hard drive
    2) transferring applications, system and library folders across to the SSD so that they still function
    3) changing my settings so that OSX reads the home folder from the current hard drive, as well as all the applications' data (documents, music etc...)
However, I would like to run iMovie, with all events etc solely from the SSD to speed up the process of editing movies.
If anyone could help with this, it would be much appreciated.

If you got the data transfer cable with your SSD, the procedure should be pretty simple - and there should be step-by-step instructions in the box. You're simply going to remove the bottom case of your computer (using a Phillips #00 screwdriver), take out the two screws in the bracket holding the hard drive into place (using same screwdriver), remove the drive and (use a Torx 6 screwdriver) remove the four screws that hold the hard drive in place. Then put in the SSD and reassemble the machine.
Then you'll plug up the old hard drive by using the SATA to USB cable and use the option key to boot from the old drive. I don't know what data transfer software Crucial provides, but I would recommend formatting the SSD  using Disk Utility from your old drive ("Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a single GUID partition) and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old drive to your new SSD (see this user tip for cloning - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4122). You needn't worry about getting an enclosure since you have the data transfer cable and you don't want to use your old hard drive.
There are a number of videos on YouTube that take you step-by-step through this procedure - many specific to Crucial SSDs and their data transfer kit - do a little searching there if you're unsure of how to procede.

  • How do I install Mavericks onto a new SSD HD in my late 2008 MacBook Pro?

How do I install Mavericks onto a new SSD HD in my late 2008 Macbook Pro, and then I  hopefully can reinstall my data from my Time Machine backup?
I presume the SSD will need some type of formatting, before I can install Mavericks from the internet? Then can I use my Time Machine backup to reinstall all my other software and settings?

In order to load Mavericks the SSD will have to be formatted Mac OS Extended with GUID partition mapping

  • I replaced my 2010-2011 iMac internal HD i dont have an install disk i created one with my external HD but when i go to install lion onto my imac it stays at the apple logo screen.HELP ME PLEASE!

I replaced my 2010-2011 iMac internal HD i dont have an install disk i created one with my external HD but when i go to install lion onto my imac it stays at the apple logo screen.HELP ME PLEASE!

Boot from the original Install disc that came with the computer and then format the drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID partition. Then  you can re-install OS X. If you no longer have the original media call AppleCare with the serial number of the machine (look on the bottom of the stand) and for a nominal fee they will ship you replacement media.
The chances are very good you will have fan problems if you used an off-the-shelf HD, beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's from vendors that incorporated heat sensors into the HD. If you did not buy the same type of HD your computer will think the HD is overheating causing the fans to run at full speed.

  • W510 can't install W7 onto new Lenovo 256GB SSD

So I have a brand new Lenovo (Toshiba) 256GB SSD. SSD THNSFC256GAMJ.  Lenovo Part Number 45N7990. When I attempt to install Win7 onto on my W510 Type 4389-A97 it says there's no drive to install to and asks for a driver. I can't find a driver anywhere. The 160GB Intel SSD I have works fine.  Is there a driver I need? If so, where do I get it from? I can't even find reference to this drive on the Lenovo site yet is has a Lenovo part number.

    hey StuartHickson,
is the Win7 which you're trying to install your own disc ?
anyway, have you made recovery media for your W510 using Rescue & Recovery? If you have, then I would like you to use those disc first and restore your unit.
once that is one, try installing W7 on your unit.

  • Problems installing Tiger onto G3 Imac - please help!

    hi all.
i've tried to install tiger onto a g3 imac but i'm having some problems.
basically, once i've inserted the install dvd and restarted, the screen is either totally blank or it's very very dark and the desktop is sliding off to one side, plus the text and icons are blurred.
i checked that i didn't need to update the firmware first, and the computer said that i didn't need to.
does anyone have any idea what i can do? i don't have the original OS9 install disk any more and i'm starting to panic ...
    thanks in advance
    ibook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Jon,
Not to be silly but do you you have DVD capabilities? Not all G3s (mine included) have DVD drives. Is the firmware 4.1.9? What is your machines specs? Do you have enough ram, hard disk space?
I haven't read about these types of going ons, however on the Tiger OS X.4 discussion board Gulliver has an excellent check list/ decision tree.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607363
You may want to check that out as well as reposting your topic on the Tiger board.
Sorry I couldn't help more than possibly pointing you in the right direction.
    Good luck,

  • How do you install CS5 onto a new computer without Time Machine/file transfer

I'm not getting a new computer, but my current one is getting a little old (Macbook Pro V. 10.6.8) and I'm afraid it might crash if I download the newest Maverick system, which is why I want to make absolutely sure I'm able to save and transfer all my old files and CS5 Creative Suite programs if this indeed happens. I don't trust Time Machine to do it; my boss had this happen and Time Machine did not transfer the Adobe programs. I also don't want to rely on Time Machine and any other file transfer (which all new Macs offer) because I've had brand new computers crash because of old corrupt files from my old computer converting over, and the Apple people said it's a bad idea (which would have been nice to know BEFORE the computer crashed and everything. . .) I've been told you can only use the CD to install CS5 onto your computer twice, which I've already done (thanks to my brand new computer crashing once already). So I would like to know how it's possible to install the program onto a new computer should this one crash, without the use of file transfer or Time Machine. I have no interest in upgrading to CC.
    Thanks!

Avoid using Time Machine for re-installing Adobe software. It rarely works and usually breaks the activation mechanism.
I've been told you can only use the CD to install CS5 onto your computer twice,
    Not quite.
You can install the software as many times as you like but you can only activate the software for use on a maximum of two computers at the same time.
To re-install you will need your CS5 serial number.
Download the installer from Download CS5 products
Install then enter your serial number when prompted.

About 3 years old...pretty dated now I guess.  Am thinking I may just need to have it upgraded by a Mac tech.
For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • Help installing PSE10/Premier onto Mac from PC without software CD

Help installing PSE10/Premier onto Mac from PC without software CD.  I can't find my software box anywhere..... Is there a way to locate my serial number within the programs?  AND how can I download the programs from your site- all I see are downloads for the new PSE 11.

You really need the DVD box which also has the serial numbers on the back. If you registered the product you can get the serial numbers by logging-in to My Adobe but that's not much help as only the current version 11 is available for download.
