X61 Tablet with Windows 8 - no tablet function

Hi I have just updated an old laptop with Windows 8 (Microsoft has a great offer right now = it is only a great offer if it works ;-) )
The PC is a: Lenovo ThinkPad X61 tablet 7767.
But I am having issues with the tablet interface. Windows 8 has been designed to tablets...
With the virgin installation, the tablet interface does not respond.
The tablet is found in the Device Manager:
+ Human Interface Devices
HDI-compliant device (3 lines)
Wacom Penable Dual Touch
All control programs are in place, calibration program can be opened, but there is no response from the tablet (pen or touch). I have looked at the lenovo support site, and downloaded various drivers, most with no effect, others caused windows blue screen - which in windows 8 is more light-blue greenish.
I have also Installed ISD_DualTouch_710-9 from Wacom.eu, this gives the most positive result.
Both pen and touch works (no dual touch), but is unaligned (when in a corner, pointer is 2cm from corner x and y. center of screen is aligned)
I cannot calibrate, neither pen nor touch. Running tabcal (from control pannel or commandline) gives 4 popup windows with error messages:
1) Failet to enumerate the installed digitiser devices.
2) No suitable hardware was found to calibrate.\nWindows supports calibrating only integrated digitisers.
3) Invalid display was specified.The Device manager lists the tablet as working:
+ Human Interface Devices
HID-compliant device
Wacom Device
I have tried to find a file holding the calibration; I found a ISDTablet.xml, that looked right, but editing it has no effect and rebooting resets to original value. (The file has a calibration section with coordinates of 4 points)
Secondary, I can't get the buttons on the tablet to work (Ctrl-Alt-Del, Rotate, Toolbox, Esc and cursor joystick).
Any ideas are greatly apreciated ;-)

  • Why ('ontouchstart' in window) is false on a touch tablet with Windows 8

    I use Java Script to determine if my Web-Site is running on Tablet touch device
    The device is Assus tablet with windows 8

    Are you assuming that the return value is false because it is not true? According to [https://github.com/phoboslab/Ejecta/pull/173 this], null is sometimes returned instead of true. If false is actually returned, then I would think it is a fault with the tablet's browser. Either that or in the browser's settings there are options to pretend the device is something else (for testing purposes); there is no reason why these should be selected by default though.
    If that's no help then please give us further details (such as the browser you are using).

  • Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with Windows 2003 forest functional level Supported after Windows 2003 support ends in July 2015

    Hi
    Anyone knows whether Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with Windows 2003 forest functional level will still be Supported after Windows 2003 support ends in July 2015 ?
    Thanks

    When Windows Server 2003 support ends, you should not have a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller running if you would like to be supported by Microsoft. This means that there will be no reason to have a DFL or FFL that is lower than Windows Server 2008.
    So, if you are keeping Windows Server 2003 FFL to keep DCs running Windows Server 2003 then this is not supported.

  • How come iTunes is not compatable on my Surface tablet with windows 8?

    I got this tablet and it wasmeant to replace my older laptop. But everytime i try downloading itunes for my phone, it says 'The app cant be run on my PC". This is a huge reason of why  even got the tablet. As i talked to a technician for windows, they said it was up to apple to make it compatible. I was curious when this is going to happen because it not being compatable is a big pain considering how iTunes hold all the info that my iPhone holds.

    Okay, here's what's going on:
    1. The Windows 8 name is actually applied to two operating systems that are designed to look and feel the same- one for your standard "x86" processors like the ones made by Intel and AMD that power most PCs and laptops, and one for "ARM" (and ARM derivitative) processors, like the ones that frequently power tablets and phones.
    2. The x86 Windows 8 devices are backwards compatible with stuff designed for Windows 7 (and Windows Vista, and some Windows XP stuff).  So they'll run itunes, etc..
    3. The ARM version of Windows 8 devices is only compatible with stuff designed for Windows 8 specifically, usually sold through the Windows 8 store and displayed as a tile on the main screen once purchased (The major exception being Microsoft Office, which can run in desktop mode).  This is because stuff designed for Windows 7 and before was compiled for x86 processors, an ARM processor doesn't know what to do with it.
    3. Your Surface RT device is powered by an ARM processor, so you have no backwards compatibility.
    4. Itunes is right now compiled only for x86 processors, and those will only work with Windows 8 machines with x86 processors, which you don't.
    5. Apple may or may not decide to release a version of itunes that's compatible with the ARM version of Windows 8 (frequently referred to as Windows 8 RT).  We just don't know, because they haven't said that they will or they won't.  Right now there is no compatible version.
    6. So your options are to use music software that is compatible with Windows 8 RT (I am guessing it comes with some version of Windows Media Player), wait till Apple comes out with a version of Itunes for Windows RT (Which it may or may not do), or return your Surface RT and buy a more traditional laptop with an Intel or AMD processor instead (The version of Windows 8 that can run on those chips can do itunes in desktop mode).
    Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  I can see where this would be a little confusing.  Microsoft probably should have given it's ARM-based operating system a name other than "Windows".

    Hello all,
    I hope all is well, I am having a very odd issue.
    One user when they access a particular network drive, and try to use the explorer search function it prompts the following error
    Runtime error
    Program:
    This application has requested the runtime to terminate in a unusual way. Please contact application team for support.
    I have checked the event viewer on both the user machine and server hosting the share, not events show up regarding the issue.
    I have tried with the user machine in safe mode with networking, and the issue still occurs
    It of course is not telling which application or program is causing this.
    I have confirmed all windows updates are up to date.
    I have gone to the windows search in services and swapped the 1 for a 0, that opened up three of the four network drives for search
    the last one is still causing this error.
    User computer is windows 7 professional 64 bit
    server is windows server 2012 64 bit.
    I am at a total loss as to why this is happening on two machines out of ten.
    any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Cheers
    Josh

    Hi Josh,
    What operation did the user act and how to use the explorer search function to cause the issue? Please check if the issue still exists after the user does the same action locally.
    You could refer to the thread below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Yoga Tablet 2 With Windows 8.1 as a Point of Sale Device and Clerking an Auction

    First of all, the touch response within Windows 8.1 is excellent.  I do physical labor and my hands have a lot of calluses and scars on them and I've always had problems using touchscreens.  It's thus a joy to use this tablet with Windows, as I must say that the touch response is excellent.
    Clerking an auction in the company I am with using  Android and Windows are pretty much similar. However, the differences come at the end of the auction during checkout.  Using Android, the bidders still have to queue up at the checkout counter to have their credit cards scanned and their pick tickets and receipts printed.  With the Yoga 2 with Windows, I can scan their cards with a Windows app and the camera and print their receipts wirelessly through our wireless printer.
    We recently opened a store in the auction facility and decided to use the auction program as a Point of Sale application.  We figured we could use tablets and the program would give us a good accounting of sales and expenses and inventory control.  It worked!!  We've been using tablets for awhile now and was able to do away with all the paper except for the pick tickets and receipts.
    To start with, we have to enter the inventory in the system.  It's time consuming with pen and paper, it all has to be counted and then transferred into the computer.  Using the tablet, it's counted and entered into the system all at once and there's even the ability to take a picture of the item being counted and entered also.  Each item is assigned an item number which is labeled on that item. We also take consignments, we have the ability to list the products by consignors and generate a report so we know what we need to pay the consignor at any given time.
    (The Yoga Tablet 2 with the dashboard open.  The Yoga Tablet 2 is on the left.)
    Anybody who wants to purchase an item in the store or bid on an item at one of our auctions has to register and be issued a buyers number or a bidder number.  We can enter their email address on this form and send them coupons or sale notices.  A buyer or bidder can opt out of this if they so desire.
    Once a buyer is registered, they are now free to purchase an item in the store or bid on an item in an auction. For the most part, this is the window that a clerk will see.
    Once the items are sold to the buyer, then it is time to check out.  Enter the buyer number in the box and options will come up to pay, either by cash, check, credit card or Paypal and this is where a tablet with Windows comes in handy because Windows will recognize a credit card scanner and will print receipts wirelessly to an online printer.  Android will also scan a credit card, but I haven't been able to get Android to print from an online printer yet.
    The Yoga 2   makes an excellent Point of Sale device, it is light, fast, small, and it runs cool.  There is a video below that shows the hands on experience.
    Thank you Lenovo for giving me the opportunity to try this out.

  • MenuManager in TableViewer does not work on mobile device (tablet with Win 8)

    Hi
    Welcome everybody This is my first post on this forum. I really hope you can help me out with this. It is kind of strange.... Ok, so I am developing RCP/SWT application, and it has to work on mobile device with windows 8 as well (10' tablet with windows Cool. So far so good - everything work pretty nice, except one thing that is really annoying. So I have this table, and user has possibility to use right click menu (context menu) on each row. Problem is that it does not work at all on mobile device. Right click on tablet is actually defined by pressing finger for longer period of time - then after 1 or 2 second menu should appear. Problem is that it does not at all. Funny thing is that when I connect a mouse using USB port to tablet I am able to open this menu Smile - it works completely fine. Menu works also with finger action when I press on empty (e.g. table without any data) I noticed that this issue is related with constructor style option SWT.FULL_FULL_SELECTION that is used for creating table. When I remove it from the constructor, right click works fine but there is not any data (no record is selected), so I can not perform any context menu action. Menu is dynamic, so depending on what data is loaded, the contain of menu changes. Main problem is that method menuAboutToShow is not called at all!. The code looks like that:
    Table table = new Table(parent, SWT.FULL_SELECTION | SWT.VIRTUAL | SWT.H_SCROLL | SWT.V_SCROLL | SWT.MULTI);
    table.setLinesVisible(true);
    table.setLayout(myTableLayout);
    createColumns(table, layout);
    table.setHeaderVisible(true);
    tableViewer = new TableViewer(table);
    tableViewer.setContentProvider(myContentProvider);
    tableViewer.setLabelProvider(myLabelProvider);
    MenuManager contextMenu = new MenuManager();
    contextMenu.setRemoveAllWhenShown(true);
    contextMenu.addMenuListener(new IMenuListener() {
    public void menuAboutToShow(IMenuManager mgr) {
    contextMenu.add(new MyAction(action)); // THIS PLACE IS NEVER CALLED WITH RIGHT FINGER CLICK!
    // dynamic filling context menu engine
    Menu menu = contextMenu.createContextMenu(tableViewer.getControl());
    tableViewer.getControl().setMenu(menu);
    getSite().registerContextMenu(contextMenu, null);
    Additional info: this tap-hold functionally is standard equivalent for right click on tablet device with Windows. I did not do any additional implementation for that. I think it should just work. I have several tables in my application and in all of those this problem appears. Any idea what may be wrong ?
    cheers,
    Pawel

    I have just installed SWT Example on my tablet (from here: https://www.eclipse.org/swt/examples.php#standaloneOutsideEclipse) and this same problem appears on the table example. I think it is general problem/bug. Should I report this as a swt eclipse bug ?

  • HT201272 Download apps/games to the Dell Venue 8 Pro (Windows based tablet)

    My daughters each received a Dell Venue 8 Pro (windows based) tablet for Christmas. I was told that the iTunes apps and games can be transferred to this tablet. I am having trouble doing this. I can pull up the iTunes accounts with all the apps online, but not play or use them on the tablet itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    That's normal. You can use your Windows tablets with Windows 8.1 to store your device data with iTunes, but you cannot use iPhone and iPad apps. They are designed to run only in iPhones, iPads and iPods touch with iOS, not in computers

  • Multitouch zoom in google maps on a windows 7 tablet leads to a zoom of the whole browser window including tools.

    Using a tablet with windows 7 and multitouch screen and the actual firefox version. If i open google maps and want to zoom the map with the zoom gesture, firefox zooms the hole browser window including the tools instead of the map. If i open another empty tab and closing it before using the zooming gesture, everything will work. Would be helpful if someone could give me a hint how to overcome these problems without always opening a new empty tab.

    Well, the touch problem was first observed with Firefox Version 21. The Versions 21 to 23 offers the workaround with opening and closing a new tab. Since Version 24 also the workaround didn't work anymore and the problem, that the multitouch gestures zooms the hole browser window is still present. Maybe this makes it clear for now. So would be helpful if anybody could give me a real hint how to overcome these problem.

  • Windows 10 Tablet - Good or bad

    I installed the Windows 10 upgrade on my Surface Pro 2 the night before last. So far, I am really liking it. It allows me to switch between tablet and desktop mode with the addition or removal of my keyboard.
    When I transition to tablet mode, my start menu turns into a smart screen and I can see all my apps right there, and on my task bar the search bar disappears and the icons get a little more spaced apart so I can click on them easier.
    It's such a minimal thing but I love the task view icon; it really makes switching between screens a breeze.
    Overall, I'm really happy with it. My Surface was the one device that I didn't mind having 8.1 on, so I am greatly relieved that the Windows 10 tablet mode worked out for me.

    I am curious to know how windows 10 works on a tablet compared to windows 8.1. I have been running the insider version of windows 10 for months, but since I use my tablet for a few important things, I didn't want to try it out on it.
    Personally I am happy with the way windows 8.1 runs on my little Dell Venue, but I also like the way windows 10 works on my desktop and laptop. I have heard that they have removed some features from 10 that I enjoy in windows 8, such as swipe to change apps, but I am not positive of this.
    Can anyone tell me what the pros and cons are on a touchscreen tablet with windows 10 vs. windows 8.1 before I upgrade it?
    Thanks for the help!

    Help! Going mad! My printer use to print wirelessly and then stopped. I reset once by looking on google but now don;t know what to do. I have Surface tablet with windows 8 (i think!). Prints with USB fine. Thank you so much. Ruth

    Hi ruthk726,
    I'd like to help you get the printer working wirelessly again with your tablet.
    Use the solutions in 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print. This document does address these other symptoms as well:
    Printer won't print
    Print jobs are stuck in the print queue
    No response from the printer
    Please Note: Solution one will advise you to download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor; however, the HP Print and Scan Doctor does not support Windows RT for ARM-processor based tablets or computers. Please proceed to the next solution. (Solution two: Restart the computer and check the print queue)

  • BASIC Help With Windows 8.1 tablet

    I just bought the HP Stream 7 tablet. I'm an experienced computer user (since the early '80s). My desktop runs Windows 7. I have used an Android tablet for more than a year. This tablet is my first experience with Windows 8. I installed the Classic Shell so I could navigate in a more familiar setting, and this has helped somewhat. I also installed the driver for a wireless Logitech mouse, and that helps. But there is SO MUCH that confuses me about -- is the tablet or Windows 8.1 or both? -- this system, that I need some guidance. Two examples: Internet Explorer always displays pages that I don't want, yet closing those pages is not always successful. And then there's getting access to the keyboard. Sometimes just tapping into box where I should enter some text displays the keyboard. Often I can tap and tap and.....but no keyboard appears. I have looked at both the quick-start guide and the user manual, but they don't help me. Maybe I'm overlooking some obvious things, and maybe I've just become too impatient to solve these issues. I imagine I could search the Net to find some help, but I'm hoping that someone in this forum can point me toward Web pages that will help. Thanks.

    To the best of my knowledge, mouse input in metro apps does not load the on screen keyboard (OSK). Whereas touch does. Having the mouse connected before the app loads is likely causing the app to recognize the mouse as the primary input device.
    As I don't know the exact app in question to really reproduce the problem I downloaded a few of the top crossword apps and tested them.
    Each of the apps I installed performed in this way:
    Booting the device without a mouse connected resulted in the OSK loading.
    Booting the device without a mouse connected, loading the app and connecting the mouse resulted in the OSK failing to load.
    Booting the device with the mouse connected resulted in the OSK failing to load.
    Booting the device with the mouse connected, loading the app and disconnecting the mouse resulted in the OSK failing to load. (Reloading the app resumed OSK functionality.)
    This would confirm my earlier assumption that metro apps do not load the OSK with input devices connected, but was a surprise that disconnecting the mouse required me to restart the app before the OSK would work in the app again. It would appear to me after testing this in multiple apps on multiple machines (including a non-HP device) that this is simply the way WIndows 8 metro apps work.
    Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!
