X61 Thinkpad overheat problem

I bought this ThinkPad X61 last Sept. I downgrade it to win xp instead of vista.
When I charge it, it becomes very very hot. It is over 80C. When I unplug the battery and just plug in the charger, it is fine. Does anyone have the same problem?

If the overheat problem happens after installed additional RAM, is this RAM you bought from lenovo or somewhere else? Maybe this is the problem. And another reason, if your machine has been used for a long time, maybe is because the dust, and you need to do some cleanning.
Also, you said you didn't run much things but machine gets hot, please open Windows Task Manager, and open process tab to see the CPU utilization, if it's 100% for a long time and you think you didn't run lots of things by YOURSELF, maybe is some apps automatic runs when system startup and need lots of CPU process, or virus something, please look for process that takes a high CPU utilization, and do something about that, such as uninstall unnecessarily programs, or scan for virus, or disable automatic start items.
In the end, I still suggest you buy a laptop cooler pad. Before using that, my X61 always overheat, especially when CPU is busy working for a long time, and sometime the whole system will crash because the heat. But after using these pad, crash never happens.

thinkpad keyboard problem - some keys generate multiple keys when pressed
For example, "t" generates "tr", "y" generates "yu", "backspace" generates "backspace" plus "IBM access connections", "m" generates "mn" and "n" generates "mn".  Not all keys are wrong.
For what it's worth, the odd behaviour started shortly after a trip to Miami in which I had a meeting at a cafe in which we were undercover but it was pouring cats and dogs - it was like having a meeting in a sauna - so I am wondering if the high humidity could have caused the behaviour.
I tried replacing the keyboard but the new keyboard has the same problem.
The machine in question is a Thinkpad T23 running Windows XP Pro

  • X61 Thinkpad. Inserting power cable Stops Sound coming through the Jack Port

A very confusing Situation has arisen for me with my new(ish) x61 Thinkpad. When I connect power to the device Audio stops coming through my external speakers plugged into the microphone jack, And instead plays on the onboard speakers. It will remain like this until I disconnect power.
I have no idea what has caused this and sofar all my Google searching hasn't Given me any relevant information, So any idea's or solutions you may have are greatly welcome and appreciated.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • This baby burns... for real (overheat problem)

I just had in my hands for a few hours this new laptop. He's sure pretty fast on the internet and very fluid on other basic apps(e.g. GarageBand, Iphoto).Did not see much difference with my PB anyway except for the fact this one looks more cool. But I'm not very good at benchmarking.
It runs hot anyway. Very HOT. After 30 mins the part closer to the power button and generally all the area under the screen feels like is going to melt down in minutes. My friend is really worried about this, mostly because it bought it in the States and doesn't know if he'll receive assistance over here in italy too..
Question is.. is it a common feature or do you think it is just like that and he should not be worried about it?

    this baby does burns.
i Just purchased mine 2 days ago.
I checked the vent there was no plastic cover blocking the way
I just leave it there with sleep mode for 40 min and i begin to check all over, everywhere else steems to be fine but the buttom of left(opposite side of the power button) was extremely HOT! I almost caught my pants on fire when i put it on my lap. I hate to return this macbook but overheat problem is way over image.

  • X61 Thinkpad 7675-CTO Heat problem

My X61 tends to overheat upper left corner where the fan and heat sink are located.  I haven't noticed any performance issues, but it is too hot for your skin to come into contact with it.  My 2 year old son accidentally touched the corner and let out a pretty good yelp!  Is there a fix for this?  I'm running Windows Vista Business with 4 GB ram (only 3 GB gets used).  Thanks,

what CPU do you have on the X61??? The overheating problem is due to the heatsink/fan assembly couldn't dissipate the heat from the CPU. Do you have warranty??
Install the HWmonitor from the web, it would tell you what temperature it is running at, i am guessing probably around 75+ Celsius.

  • Thinkpad X201 - problem with microphone and speakers

    Hi,
My thinkpad X201 is a professional computer set up with Windows XP. Although I cannot check, I am reasonably sure that the computer was installed with the latest drivers and is regularly updated to the latest SP and patches.
My problem is the following: in Volume Control window, when both the general "Volume Control" and "Mic in Volume" are un-muted and maxed-up, a feedback loop quickly builds. When I decrease the volumes of both to a lower values, I can actually hear myself speak with a slight delay. The same phenomenon can be heard if I use the internal mic or if I plug in a microphone.
So, it seems that the (internal or external) mic input is constantly sent to the speakers. This makes any recording with this computer very painful.
Did anybody experience this problem? Is there a solution?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks

Ok, I've fixed the Radio thing, I installed the Nvida drivers from the Nvida site, and then had to select the aux input twice. Still havn't fixed the Mic issue, any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Thinkpad 8 Probleme mit WWAN Karte

    Hallo,

  • X61 status LED problems

    Hi All,
i've just  bought an used x61 which is working fine, except the LEDs inside LCD cover. I replaced the inverter + LCD ribbon cable + BT module inside, but the only progress what i mention is that the ThinkLight LED is working fine and the Wifi LED only. The others has no light.
Anybody has an idea where can i search the problem?
    Thanks, zsici

It sounds like you have a blown fuse on the motherboard. There is a fuse very near the LCD connector that controls those lights. I cannot confirm that it also feeds the lid switch, but it is likely. There are 2 fuses near that area. The larger one drives the backlight and the smaller one is the one you need. The board is multi-layer and uses lead-free (high temperature) solder. If you try to change it without a good soldering station, you are likely to make a mess.

  • X61s OS Installation Problem

I am attempting to reinstall Windows XP on an X61s laptop, but I can't seem to get around a certain problem with Windows setup not detecting the hard drive. It returns that it can't find any hard disk drived installed on the laptop, even though both the BIOS and my Linux disc can both find the hard drive no problem. How can I go about reinstalling Windows?

    Tristanm, welcome to the forum,
you need to enter BIOS, (F1 at start), and change the S-ATA settings in the Config menu from AHCI to compatabilty mode and you will be able to install XP. The S-ATA driver can be installed afterwards which you can find on this site.
    Happy installing

  • ThinkPad L420 problems! Windows 7 problems! Lenovo support problems! and so on...

My company has bought 150 ThinkPad's, L420 model, with Windows 7 Pro OA installed but NO recovery DVD.
The problem comes when we had to reinstall some of the laptops, because we used 4 different types of Windows 7 Pro 64bits kits (downloaded from MSDN), all of them NOT willing to accept the serial no. from the sticker under the battery.
We tried to contact Lenovo Customer Support here in Romania, using the contacts we find on Lenovo.com: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/feedback/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76613. The surprise is that the phone number is NOT IN USE.
    So:
    - we got 150 paper weights for the price of 150 laptops.
    - we payed for Windows 7 Pro and we got almost nothing.
    - we trusted Lenovo to help us after sale and we were wrong.
    Now, my question is:
Do you think we will ever buy again or advise someone to buy something from Lenovo?

Did these machines have a Lenovo image installed initially?  Strange that they don't have recovery paritions.  Normally there is a way to make your own recovery DVDs using Rescue and Recovery.  That's why no recovery media is shipped.
My best suggestion is to try that image from a working machine and see if it requires activation.
BTW, what you describe is completely normal.  In my experience any Win 7 ThinkPad will require phone activation when using the CoA sticker key and non-Lenovo install media.  At least in the USA it's an automated process.

  • New thinkpad hardware problem?

    Hi,
My gf bought a thinkpad about 4 days ago, which came with windows 7 home. I promptly put windows 7 ultimate on it and installed all the drivers from lenovo support center.
Then just today, upon turning it on, the bios screen is flipped in the horrizontal plane (like if you look in the mirror) and extremely blurry. Windows is the same, everything flipped and blurry, making the writing unreadable. The mouse movements are also flipped.
So then i endure like 1 hour of being screamed at!!! because i **bleep**ed up her laptop! Yep, installing windows on it must be the culprit right?
Or is it more likely a hardware problem, since windows has nothing to do with the bios screen also being messed up...

Hi StoutBeer and welcome to the forum!
Please tell us which ThinkPad it is, specifically it's 7 character product number (looks like 2668-KHU), it can be found on the back sticker.

  • ThinkPad W550s Problems

    Hi,
I got my new Lenovo Thinkpad W550s yesterday and I'm having some troubles with it.
When I try to watch Videos on YouTube in higher Resolutions (720p up to 4k) my CPU Usage Jumps to 100%
It doesn't matter which Browser (ie, Firefox, or Chrome) or which Plugin (HTML 5 or Flash), It will react the same way.
I even deinstalled and then reinstalled the Video Card Drivers several times. It doesn't do the trick for me.
I can asure I have installed the newest Flash and Browsers and because it's a new System there aren't any Maleware or something like that (Checked that too)
    My System Specs are:
    15.5" 3K IPS (2880 x 1620)
    Intel® Core™ i7-5500U Dual-Core Prozessor (2.4 – 3.0 GHz)
    NVIDIA Quadro K620M (2 GB)
    16 GB RAM
    512 GB SSD
    Windows 7 Pro
Does somebody know, how to fix this? I'm really frustrated. Trying to fix this Problem the hole day..

    Hi Irgendbas,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I think this issue can be caused by confliction from one of the background programs. You may troubleshoot in Clean Boot Mode.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows 7 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Also try disabling all the browser add-ons except adobe flash player.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • X61s Thinkpad Enabling Wireless

Suddenly, my laptop is not reading my wireless in my home.   I get a message that says I need to enable wireless, but I don't know where to do that.  Any ideas?  Is there a switch?  Thank you!

Yeh, there's a switch, look around on the base.  It'll have the wireless symbol on it, then hit Fn+F5 and make sure it's turned on there, also.

  • ThinkPad 10 - Probleme bei längerem Betrieb

    Hallo,
