X61s, Video driver, Win 7, External Monitor, Low Res

I've seen this problem posted before or similar, but no solution mentioned so far has any effect. Replaced totally failed HDD last week and moved up to Win 7 Professional (so something good came of it). Now the X61s can't run external monitors at anything higher than 1280 x 1024. The old OS (Win XP) went to 1600 x 900 and 1900 x 1080 with no problems. Latest BIOS is in (2.21) and the 965 Express Driver is the latest Lenovo 8.15.10.1867. One monitor is Samsung P2250, the other an LG 19 inch. Intel says the driver is manufacturer-tweaked, so best not to move to a generic from them directly. Anyone any ideas? 1280 x 1024 is a waste...

  • Surface Pro 3 Display/Video/Graphics Driver Issues - DisplayPort, External Monitors, Windows 10 Build 9926

Surface Pro 3 - i5 with Intel HD Graphics 4400
    Windows 10 build 9926
    All Latest updates installed
    Intel Graphics Driver 10.18.15.4079.
Latest system update released on Jan 22nd (which I understand is just the latest intel graphics driver?).
The display driver status has this error message: Windows has stopped this device because it
    has reported problems. (Code 43)  - I assume it's
reverting to the basic Microsoft driver when this occurs. Which explains why my displayport (External monitors) will not work.
I have uninstalled the driver completely (and deleted the driver files), tried the Windows basic driver,
and rebooted several times with no luck.
I cannot get my docking station displayport or the  displayporton my surface pro 3 working.
According to Microsoft (see below), this is a known issue UNTIL you update to display driver
    version 4079  - which I have.
Known issues on Surface after updating to Windows 10 January Technical Preview
On Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3, the Mini DisplayPort won’t work on the Windows 10 January Technical Preview until you’ve installed graphics driver 4079 or later. Check Windows Update often for the most recent graphics driver.
On Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3, you’ll notice poor graphics rendering on the Windows 10 January Technical Preview until you’ve installed graphics driver 4079 or newer from Windows Update. Check Windows Update often for the most recent graphics driver.
If you’re using video driver 3496, you may need to start in safe mode and remove that driver. Then restart Surface in normal mode and go to Windows Update to get the most recent graphics driver.

    Hi Nicholas,

  • My macbook has problems streaming video when using an external monitor

I have a MacBook from 2007.  I have a converter so that the MacBook can be connected to an external monitor, and have connected it to my TV.  This works fine, but if I am streaming videos and trying to watch on the TV, the streaming becomes very choppy, almost like the wireless connection is too slow.  If I unplug the computer from the TV, however, the streaming returns to normal.  I previously connected to a TV with an S-video connection and the problem did not seem as prominent.  Now I am connecting to a HD tv using an HDMI connection.
Any suggestions for how to alleviate this?  I haven't updated or upgraded the memory or RAM, possibly that would help?  Would the amount of files I am storing be causing the problem?  I currently have 50 GB available.
    Thanks for any help!
    Conor

Make sure your Mac is set to a resolution and frequency that your monitor supports.
The other possibility is that your graphics card is fried, but that seems unlikely since your computer is new. Before too long, you should make sure your graphics card is OK using the Apple Hardware Test, but I'm not sure how reliable that is because it claims that my partially broken graphics card is OK.

  • How do I get a video signal to an external monitor via the mini-display port on my Mac Book Air?

I can't get a video signal out through my mini-display port on my Mac Book Air (version 1).  Thus I can't feed BBC iPlayer to an external monitor.  There is some connectivity - the MAC wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible and sound is transferred.  Is it likely to be a cable connection problem (though the cable works with a Windows operating laptop)?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

  • QuickTime and iTunes video playing fullscreen on external monitor automatic

Hello, on my Toshiba laptop with nVidia video card, I have an external monitor hooked up to the laptop. Every time I go to play video from QuickTime or iTunes, it plays the video at full screen size on the external monitor while also playing in the normal small window of QuickTime or iTunes on the main (laptop) LCD. I don't have the QuickTime Pro key installed on this machine, nor have I somehow selected to play videos at full screen. It does this whether I want to do it or not, which is quite annoying as the full screen version is usually flickering to boot.
Help please. I've looked in the QuickTime Control Panel and don't see anything that would cause this problem, nor in iTunes.
    Cheers, Andrew.

A couple of things you might want to try. Open the QT Player settings, not to be confused with the QT Control panel. There should be settings in there for monitors and dual monitors I believe.
For the flickering, open the Display control panel>Settings>Advanced>Monitor. Listed under Monitor settings-Screen refresh rate: try changing the setting to 85 Hertz.

  • Video playback in source monitor low res, fuzzy

    Hello-
I encoded a slide show ( in PP CS4) using high res pics, the .avi output ( from Media Encoder CS4) looks good. When I use this as a clip in a new PP project, ( after choosing the editing mode with the correct PAR), the video playback in the source monitor has a distinct loss of resolution. I have verified that the video is pretty sharp in an external player, so I'm mystified why it looks fuzzy in PP. I have two different CSes, one is 4 and one is 5, if that could make a difference( production premium & elearning suite ). To date I have been forced to let another department encode final version with an Avid product. Very humiliating.

  • How to see Canon HDV native 24p video on a CRT external monitor?

Mac Pro 2009, FCP 7, brand new install- I'm trying to view Canon HDV native 1080/24p video in my timeline via s-video to a JVC TM-H150C external 15" CRT monitor (or via component if I buy the additional JVC card). The footage is from a Canon HV40 camcorder.
I've spoken with BlackMagic Design and found that the Intensity Pro card CANNOT handle display of Canon HDV native 1080/24p on an external CRT monitor. Apparently the 24 frames per second rate is the problem. Some people on various forums have said that it can do 24p, but BMD says it cannot, and I can't confirm anything without plunking down $200 to test it myself. With all the various flavors of HDV out there, I can't go by what another user has experienced on his system.
I don't need a card for capture, only display, so I don't want to spend a fortune just to be able to use my little CRT production monitor to view the 24p video. What can I do? Is there a setting in FCP or a plugin that can do this?

The no cost way is to nest the 16:9 sequence in a 4:3 sequence. The 16:9 sequence should be letterboxed and will play back at the correct aspect ratio on the monitor.
Otherwise, you'll need a 3rd party device (AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox) to do the letterboxing for you.

  • MacBook Pro retina display goes black while outputting video through HDMI to external monitor??

I frequently connect my MacBook Pro to my 42inch Panasonic TV to watch movies/videos. I use VLC media player for all my playback. The problem I'm running into is that when I put VLC media player into fullscreen mode on my external display, my retina display goes black (I can still see the finder bar at the top and when I mouse down the dock appears but the rest of the display shows all black. If I click on Safari it will open but I can't see it on my MacBook display unless I take the external display out of fullscreen mode.
I would still like to be able to do things on my MacBook while video is playing. I've played around with the display settings but they're pretty limited and I can't figure out how to get it to work the way I'd like. I've seen people having up to 3 or 4 displays hooked up, I'm just trying to hookup one. I would consider this a severe limitation of OS X if I'm not able to separately manage the displays. Hopefully there is a setting or something I'm just not seeing. Thanks.

Yeah, fullscreen mode still doesn't play nice with multiple monitors. The common workaround is to stretch the window out to the edges of the screen instead of using actual fullscreen mode.

  • S-video or BNC for external monitor connection?

Just picked up an NTSC monitor (not a great one, but better than nothing - Sony PVM-14L1)
And I'm wondering what the best way to hook it up would be. Here's a description:
"The monitor is equipped with 2 composite and Y/C inputs and an integrated speaker that enables users to monitor audio."
So, it's got S-Video inputs (y/c), and BNC inputs (for composite?). As of now, I'm going to have to go through my capture camera, which has the composite out.
Do I get a composite to S-Video, or composite to BNC adapter? I'm guessing S-video would be better...
    -brown

You'll gain nothing going from composite to S-Video. If your camera doesn't have an s-video out, just use the composite input.

  • When in windows 7 can i connect a thunderbolt hard drive and an external monitor

i was wondering if i can daisychain a drive and external display in windows 7 via the thunderbolt port
    many thanks

    ok guys
    i got it all working
bit of a fannying around but heres the info
you need a bit of third partysoftware for window 7 to see the lacie little big disk (thunderbolt)
    first up
you need to let it add a few drivers
    re boot
let it add a few drivers
    reboot
then for some reason my ethernet and wifi adaptors had vanished
so right click, my computer, device manger
click on the 3 drivers that i think were in other devices that were not yet fuctioning
and reinstall drivers for each the devices are
    ethernet
    wifi
base device (once driver reinstall this is actually THUNDERBOLT)
    then jump to
    http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/pro/
this allows you to mount apple raid volumes
quick 69.99 usd later and a reboot and your LACIE THUNDERBOLT LITTLE BIG DRIVE is fully accessable in windows 7
it also allowed the daisychaining of my external display
so alls good in bootcamp land
thought id share as it took me 2 hours or so to find the solution that LACIE says does not exist

  • Record a selected Video, Audio and Subtitle track in low res for proof.

I am moving my DVD Authoring from Spruce Maestro to DVD Studio Pro.
The DVDs I create have 25 languages on them that need to be proofed by 25 different people all over the world. In the Spruce system I could just manually record the output with whatever video, audio and subtitle track that needed to be proofed in a WMV file format and then email the proof version before final burn.
Now in DVD Studio Pro and can not seem to get an analog output to do a manual record. I have purchased an additional video card for my Mac Pro that has S-Video and that does not work. I have the DVI to S-Video converter cable but I can not select that output when it is active. I have tried the export function but that only changes the m2v file into a mpg file, so that does not work.
Do you have any other suggestions - this is very important for my operation.
    Thank you, Ron Cole 209-604-5415

very interesting. I do a lot with translation, though my maximum has been 16 languages on a single disc.
There are a couple things you could do.
    1) One is just to do a screen capture using something like Screenflow to capture and process the single streams you want to output.
    2) I think the first approach is a little arduous. Better would be to use the power of Final Cut even before you get to DVD SP. Unfortunately I don't know your entire workflow. But subtitles can now be done in Final Cut and then carry forward into DVD SP. I'd lay out my edit and soundtrack and subtitles in FCP, and then export a file of my choice and size and have it automatically uploaded. This could be done right out of FCP or by creating a batch in Compressor. Changes, as they came back, would be applied in FCP. Once you had final approval (golden words), I'd move into Compressor to create M2v and ac3 files.
My projects are done with similar workflows. I then have to ship off translated graphics for the DVD menus. That can be dealt with at the end in a finalized disc or preferably sending off stills for an early approval.
    Make sense?

  • Video tearing on external monitor

I'm trying to get video playback on an external monitor which is connected via HDMI.  It all works but the vsync signal seems to be coming from the internal monitor (laptop computer).
Is there any simple solution to this?  The two monitors have the same refresh rate, but that seems to just make the tearing appear as a line the slowly moves up the screen.  Is it possible to tell the application (totem in this example) which monitor to take the vsync signal from?
For what it's worth, I'm using intel graphics and the most of the videos I'm watching is being decoded via vaapi in totem (gstreamer).

*Everyone* will have this issue, regardless of hardware or driver. It's not possible to sync to two displays unless their timings are exactly the same. And by that I don't mean just resolution and refresh rate, I mean all timings.
nvidia-settings allows you to choose which display video should be synced to. The other display (unless it's completely identical) will have tearing. No way around it. I think the Catalyst Control Center has such a setting too, I can't remember, all I remember is my friend uses Catalyst and we were playing around a bit trying to remove tearing on his TV. No idea if open source drivers provide such a setting.

  • X61s running external monitor on native (1920x1200) resolution

    Hi,
I'm running a X61s with an NEC 2690WUXi monitor. Trouble is that I can't get the Thinkpad to output a 1920x1200 signal (even though I know it is capable). I select the 1920x1200 resolution, but it always outputs 1920x1080 (with panning up an down).
Have installed the inf file for the monitor and did the usual settings check. Also downloaded the latest drivers from the Lenovo website (although these are older than the version on the Intel site).
Anyone care to share ideas ?
    Thanks in advance, CraigS
    Solved!

    Hello,
I have Dell 24" monitor connected with 1920x1200, so hardware/driver is capable of doing so.
    I would try the following:
    1. Check in the video driver settings if the monitor is detected correctly and if the video mode is listed as supported.
    2. Check the same monitor with different cable.
    3. Try reinstalling the Video driver. Uninstall, Reboot, Install, Reboot.
    4. Inspect the socket pins both on the PC and on the monitor, possibly one of them is broken?
Hope the problem is in points 1-3.
    Wojciech
P.S. Once done, calibrate (manually) your monitor. The VGA by default will deliver image much worse than DVI would.

  • Video playback on external monitor

I have a problem with video playing on my external monitor.
I have been editing a 30 second commercial with several split screens and quad screens. After my last render, the video no longer plays on the external monitor. A frame plays, and then it freezes. I went thru the "Stock Answers" section and played with the RT settings and the memory/cache settings. Nothing seemed to make a difference. I also opened some older projects and they will not play thru the external monitor either. Finally, another note that may offer some clues is that when you print to tape it sometimes plays perfectly and other times it does not.
Any help provided will be greatly appreciated!

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • External Monitor Viewing - ALL FRAMES Unchecked

    Hello FCP gurus
I cannot get a video signal on my external monitor.
For some reason I have lost the ability to check the ALL FRAMES option in the View Menu under External Video. Each time I click ALL FRAMES it stays in the OFF mode. I think this may be the reason for the external picture loss? I have also just relocated my edit suite so somewhere in the move I might have upset the 'workflow'. Not sure, can't see why? Before today I was getting an external picture no problem.
The configuration I have is: A Firewire connection from the Hard Drive to a DV Cam (PD150). RCA Vid connector from the cam into a domestic TV.
I have followed all of Shane's #8 Stock Answer and still nudda!!
    Can anyone help?

Heck, I don't know, but reading your question helped me to finally figure out how to get my external monitor working.
Would it be okay to add to your question. Now that I have mine working the audio goes through the monitor instead of my nice Cerwin-Veg speakers. Is there a way to fix that?
P.S. Have you tried a power down, hooking up the monitor and then coming back up?
