X6270 change root password in preboot menu

Hi, I try to change password how write in official manual http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19474-01/E21604-02/troubleshoot_recovery.html#50458662_48218 but I can`t give Accessing the Preboot Menu. Can you write all step by step? I plug console cable in SER MGT port run commad "reset /CH/BLn/SP", then I plug cable with *3-Cable Dongle II* (like this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19474-01/E21604-02/intro.html#50458659_60545) & see hot to blade boot. But I can`t see The ILOM Preboot Menu

Hi.
After you type command reset .... and press button, you should push this button and wait preboot menu on display.
Possbily, more easy way - Connect dongle with monitor to this blade. Remove Blade from chassii ( not fully). Install blade again and immedeately push button "locator" and wait.

  • [SOLVED] Need to change root password - current one doesn't work

    Hey everybody,
    Not sure where to put this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong forum.
    I just installed Arch on my Dell netbook and all is well, except for issues with the root password. I am having a great deal of difficulty getting it to work. I know for a fact that I am typing it correctly. However, I did have trouble getting it set during the installation. When I try several times, I have gotten it to work, but I am getting tired of having to do that, and now I can't seem to get it to work at all. I have even tried a different keyboard, but with no luck.
    Is there any way to change the root password short of a reinstall?
    Thanks in advance for any help, but please keep in mind that I am relatively new to Linux and would greatly appreciate detailed instructions.

    Solved. Should anyone else have this issue, I solved it by entering this command:
    sudo passwd root
    I set a new password and it seems to work fine.
    Didn't know if it was possible to change the root password that way, but glad it worked!

  • Changing Root password  in HP-UNIX will affect any R/3 servers

    Hi,
          we are running R/3 on HP-Unix  with Oracle as database and we would like to change the Root Password of UNIX for security reasons and would like to confirm changing the ROOT password will affect any SAP R/3 servers or will it change any of the parameters at OS level that will have affect on R/3.
    Please do let me know what are the changes that will take place once we change the root password at OS level and R?3 level.

    Hi,
    Hardcoded passwords into the scripts isn't a good practice, but if you're not sure about yours, go to the directory(es) where you have them (p.e. /usr/local/bin) and run
    <i># grep <b>your_pwd</b> *.sh</i>
    It must show you if there's this word into one of the shell scripts.

  • Preventing local admin from changing root password

    Is it possible to prevent a local admin from changing the root password? I would like to set up a computer so that the user has admin rights, but cannot change the root password via a terminal shell to gain root access.

    I can't provide you with details, but I'm sure that all you need to do is to edit the sudoers file. It needs to be edited with <visudo> when logged in as root in a Terminal. The location is </private/etc/sudoers>, but you don't need to know that when using <visudo>. From a first look I'd suppose you only have to uncomment the %admin line, but better get some more information. I never did this myself.

  • Can not change root password for WCS

    Need to change the root password for the web gui.
    WCS is running on linux, i have tried to do the passwd user-root but it cames back saying it can not find the username.

    Alex
    You could use the recovering password procedure for wcs as a workaround (chapter 14 of the following link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/wcs/7.0/configuration/guide/WCS70cg.html )
    Recovering the WCS Password
    You can change the WCS application root user or FTP user password. This option provides a safeguard if you lose the root password. An executable was added to the installer /bin directory (passwd.bat for Windows and passwd.sh for Linux). Follow these steps to recover the passwords and regain access to WCS. For password recovery on a wireless location device, refer to chapters 8 or 9 of the Cisco 2700 Series Location Appliance Configuration Guide.
    Note If you are a Linux user, you must be the root user to run the command.
    Step 1 Change to the WCS bin folder.
    Step 2 Perform one of the following:
    Enter passwd root-user newpassword to change the WCS root password. The newpassword is the root login password you choose.
    or
    Enter passwd location-ftp-user newuser newpassword to change the FTP user and password. The newuser and newpassword are the FTP user and password you choose.
    Step 3 The following options are available with these commands:
    •-q — to quiet the output
    •-pause — to pause before exiting
    •-gui — to switch to the graphical user interface
    •-force — to skip prompting for configuration
    Step 4 Start WCS.

  • Keep changing root password, keeps telling me password is wrong in terminal.

    I used the migration tool to copy my documents over from my PC, but it created a separate user account. I want to move those files to my current account, but I don't have permission to access the folder unless I'm logged into that account (in which case I don't have access to the folder I want to move them to). I tried to change the folder permissions, but it said my root user password was incorrect. I changed it, got no error in doing so, and tried again. Still got the error. I found a thread with a similar problem (but not the same one) and followed the instructions in it. Still got the same error. How can I fix this?

    In the title of this thread you list "keeps telling me password is wrong in terminal"???
    When you open terminal have you tried the command, without the quotes "dsenableroot"?  You must be logged in as a local admin to do this.
    If you try this, terminal will ask you for your admin account password then you can enter a new password for root and verify the new password.  Exit terminal Log out and log  back in with username root and the password you put in for the root account when you were in terminal.
    There is a definite problem, or actually a couple of problems, with the directory utility when trying to enable root from directory Utility / edit.   Going the dsenableroot in terminal clears these problems out.

  • Lost root password  Can't get in to reset.........Ultra 5/10 Solaris

    Just bought an Ultra 5 Sun desktop at the thrift store. This thing is brand new and was still in the box. Fired it up and come to find, it has never even been configured so I did so myself. I entered a User name and then followed that with setting up a new password for the first time. The system reboots on it's own and goes to a point asking for my Name and then password. Only problem is the password will not even type into the bar that requests it. Do I need to reset it and if so how?

    Hi, boot with single user mode using cmd boot cdrom -s,then use passwd cmd to change root password.if it doesn't work.mount your root slice as /a,then edit /etc/shadow file and delete root passwd entry.I hope this tip fix your problem. : )

  • I changed the password from the root user - now: no booting up

    Hey guys. Im a new "unix user" and I learned a lot about using terminal and stuff and a few days ago I changed my password and I forget it after. So I changed my password over the following steps: when it booted up, i pressed apple + s to go into terminal as "root" and than i did that after a online toturial .. Bad idea. The first time, when i tried it i did the following:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    /passwd root
    I think, that that /sbin/fsck -fy not important is, in order to change a password. But after i changed it a few times, my mac is not booting up anymore. If I exit terminal right out of the open terminal window (I type in exit) it starts something. And then it does a few things i will write them down here, that you an see:
    i type in exit and than:
    logout
    jettisoning kernel linker.
    resetting IOCatalogue.

    So I have to say something else, too. I did, because i was so scared a command, also from youtube, to restore your mac. I cant remember, how that goes. Something with applesetupdone and stuff. But That resets the Mac to factory settings. And my Mac used to run Tiger, i upgraded it. I thing, that caused a error in the system. Can i fix it ?? Im in really big kaka .. haha. I hope, somebody ere has experiences with that stuff. I hope, somebody is able to help me.

    apple tv 2 - root password has been changed to non default.   I need to access apple tv 2.   how do i get access with a forgotten password

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    It depends on which password you are referring to, but generally speaking you can always restore the Apple TV.

  • I need to change values in a file owned by root (root password is constant)

    The file is parameter file has below contents. The file is owned by root. My script is run by normal user and root password is constant and we can hardcode it.
    ABCLimit: 90
    SpoolLimit: 200
    TimeLimit: 345
    I need to change the value of SpooLimit from 200 to 400.
    Can anybody please give code for this?

    Your application needs to be running as root, or the user that started the application needs to have root level permissions for at least specific funtions (i.e. /etc/group, RBAC, sudo, etc).
    Java cannot change the users permission level in anyway that the user cannot already do himself.
    If you wish to find out how to use the /etc/group file, RBAC, sudo, etc, find your local System Administrator and explain your intentions to him/her (yeah, now that's a conversation I want to hear).

  • Login as Root password problem (the changed password isn't working!)

    I have enabled root user. I've changed my password for root user a couple of time and I am still not cable to login as root!! (username: root).
    Any thoughts and help? thanks a lot! Alon.

    Hello Stephen,
    Change of password is not done via configtool. Configtool secure store just stores the current password which is taken by SDM during the deployment.
    To change the password of the administrator user, you will need to enable SAP*. Please follow note Note 669848.
    1. open the configtool: C:\usr\sap\<InstenceID>\JC<xx>\j2ee\configtool --> configtool.bat
    ex: C:\usr\sap\J9E\JC09\j2ee\configtool ---> configtool
    2. Activate the "super admin" and enter password(this is your choice) in configtool properties:
    In Config tool: cluster-data>Global Server configuration>services--> com.sap.security.core.ume.service
    find below ume properties and change values as i mentioned
    ume.superadmin.activated=TRUE
    ume.superadmin.password= < enter password>
    3. Save the changes in configtool. click on Save button.
    4. Stop the j2ee engine.
    5. Start the j2ee engine.
    6. Now you login to UME with username "SAP*" and password "what you entered in configtool"
    7. After logging into UME Search for user "administrator" then unlock this user; or if you want to change password you can change it.
    8. Goto config tool follow step 1:
    9. Follow step2: and change ume property values as below:
    ume.superadmin.activated=FALSE
    ume.superadmin.password= (note: seta as default or blank)
    10. Save the change setting in configtool.
    11. Restart the j2ee engine ( Stop and Start).
    12. Now login to user as "Administrator"; you will succussfully loging into ume;
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing root's password

    As my name says, I am new to Solaris. I inherited an x86 box running Solaris 9 and I do not know the password for the root account. I know that Linux allows you to boot into single user mode and change the password. Can someone tell me if there is a way to do this with Solaris 9?
    TIA

    This will only work if you're happy with the vi
    text editor, regardless of platform.
    If you've never used vi before, please find
    a cheatsheet/tutorial on the web before
    trying to edit /a/etc/shadow!
    Just a couple of things to watch on x86 -- the
    procedure will work, if you also:
    1. Get a copy of the Solaris 9 CD 1.
    2. Do a 'boot cdrom -s'. This boots into single-user mode.Instead of 2, let the BIOS boot from the CD,
    let it discover devices, then when it asks
    what kind of installation you want:-
    1 Interactive
    2 Jumpstart
    <etc>
    don't choose a number: this is where
    you get to type in
    boot -s
    and hit 'return'.
    When the CD boot completes, and you get
    a prompt, run the 'format' command,
    note the name of the disk (something
    like 'c0t0d0'), and quit with ctrl-D.
    x86 systems often see their disks
    as c0d0, not c0t0d0 -- that's why
    we're being cautious here.
    You then need to run the prtvtoc
    command, pointing it at '/dev/rdsk/the name of
    the disk you just noted', plus 's2':
    #prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s2
    or
    #prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0d0s2
    or
    #prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/yourDiskNameHeres2
    The final column of the prtvtoc output tells you
    which partition is doing which job.
    Normally, partition s0 houses the root (/)
    partion, which is why step 3 below generally
    works on a Sparc.
    Here's my prtvtoc output.
    # prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
    * /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 partition map
    * Dimensions:
    * 512 bytes/sector
    * 248 sectors/track
    * 19 tracks/cylinder
    * 4712 sectors/cylinder
    * 7508 cylinders
    * 7506 accessible cylinders
    * Flags:
    * 1: unmountable
    * 10: read-only
    * First Sector Last
    * Partition Tag Flags Sector Count Sector Mount Directory
    0 2 00 0 2049720 2049719 / <--THIS ONE!
    1 4 00 2049720 8194168 10243887 /usr
    2 5 00 0 35368272 35368271
    3 7 00 10243888 25124384 35368271 /var
    So for my machine, I need s0 on c0t0d0 -- on yours, look for the prtvtoc row ending in a '/', and note the
    partition number in the first field.
    You'll use this, preceded by an 's' for 'slice'
    in the mount command below. If your '/' is partition
    3, then use 's3' below.
    Now we're good to go!
    3. mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /amount /dev/dsk/YourDiskNameYourRootPartion /a
    eg
    mount /dev/dsk/c0d0s3 /a
    4. TERM=sun; export TERMhmm, on a PC monitor try
    TERM=vt100; export TERM
    5. vi /a/etc/shadow/And use your vi cheatsheet to navigate to
    the second field of the root row,
    and delete the field:
    root:dTomYcgqKJjoo:12527::::::
    becomes
    root::12527::::::
    6. init 6
    ok, you now have no root password -- after
    reboot, login as root and hit 'return' when
    asked for a password.
    To set a new password after reboot, run
    the 'passwd' command.
    Good luck.
    PS. A fresh install might be easier.

  • Root password changed

    Hi.. the root password of my server is changed without anybody's knowlegde.
    I'm now not able to login to this server. however i'm able to login to the sc> prompt.
    Is there any way to reset the root password from sc> prompt ?
    what would be the best way to recover the root password?
    Regards
    Nirvana

    You should be able to get to ok prompt after sending a break from the sc> prompt.
    Your zones should not be impacted except to be shutdown when the system is shutdown.
    Find out who changed the root password and why so that you can prevent
    this problem in the future.
    You have a couple of recovery options:
    1. Boot failsafe mode to either boot from a BE with a known, good root password or reset
    the unknown root password by copying and pasting a known, good root password
    into the /etc/shadow file. You can't reset the root passwd by using the passwd
    command from failsafe mode. At least, I couldn't.
    ok boot -F failsafe
    You are prompted to mount the BE.
    # export TERM
    # vi /a/etc/shadow
    # reboot
    2. Boot this system from media or from the network, import the root pool and mount
    the BE (if this a ZFS BE) and carefully remove the unknown root password entry
    in the shadow file.
    ok boot net -s
    # zpool import -R /a rpool
    # zfs mount rpool/ROOT/s10BE
    # TERM=vt100
    # export TERM
    # vi /a/etc/shadow
    3. Whether you boot failsafe (#1) or boot from media (#2), you should be
    able to log back into the CONSOLE as root and reset the root password if you weren't
    able to paste in a known, good password.
    # passwd -r files root

  • Can local admin change the root password in Mavericks

    One of my people and I keep going back and forth with this question. I remember reading somewhere (cannot find it now) that in 10.9 Apple changed it, so a local admin could not longer change the root password if it has been enabled by the IT group.

    AFAIK, any admin account user can set/change the root password. See OS X Mavericks: Enable and disable the root user for details. If you or IT don't trust your people, don't give them admin privileges.
