X79A-GD45 8D and 64GB RAM

I want to install 64GB of RAM in my X79A motherboard. What speed RAM should I purchase? Also, what settngs should I run the RAM at?

The best would be buying a four stick 64 GB kit. At that density (8GB modules) any faster than 1333 will cost a lot. Faster speeds will not make your system noticeable faster.
In any case make sure you buy a kit and don't mix two 32GB kits. Could cause a lot of trouble, would put a lot of strain on the cpu's mem controller and will most likely result in having to reduce the speeds anyway.

during boot i get b2 b4 and 92 messages but not bios splash screen.
When doing a test with an old ati card the system shows splah screen all is fine.
I have 4 systems like this all behaving the same
    any ideas

Hello I updated the bios, was not neccesarry but problems remains.
    cleared the cmos several times.
I have to inform you that i'm building 4 similar systems all suffering from the same problem.
During boot there is a black boot screen not splash screen. and on the top left a cursor and in the bottom right b2 b4 and 92 messages.
When I install and old ati x1050pro all is ok during boot I see the splash screen and i'm able to enter the bios.
    boot time approx 20 sec.
when running the system with the msi n680gtx boot times are back to 2 min and a long period with only the black boot screen and the bios codes.
As suggested I tested the card in a other system.  Motherboard is asus. And voila I get a splash screen.
STRANGE THING IS THAT THIS SCREEN IS NOT RESISED BUT IS I GUESS 800 X 600 AND CENTERED IN THE SCREEN.
Also after several reboots I could not get a screen filled splash screen.
Can this be a video card bios issue ?

  • MSI X79MA-GD45 and 64GB RAM

    Hi,
I'm looking to build a compact server for virtualization and that's how i came across the MSI X79MA board. It's the only board I can find that supports 64GB RAM. However, I havn't found any place where I can get 16GB Unbuffered RAM sticks. So my questoin is, does that even exist?

I'm not here to get into any argument one way or the other about it but simply to post this info, from the manual for the X79MA-GD45:
    Memory Support
    4x DDR3 DIMMs support DDR3 2400*(OC)/ 2133*(OC)/ 1800*(OC)/ 1600/ 1333/
    1066 DRAM (64GB Max)
Supports Quad-Channel mode, one DIMM per channel
This is from the specs page MSI website:
    Main Memory
    • Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1800*/2133*/2400* (OC) DRAM, 64GB Max
    - Supports Quad channel mode
Example info for MB supported Xeon E5-2670
    Memory Specifications
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type)  750 GB
    Memory Types    DDR3-800/1066/1333/1600
    # of Memory Channels    4
    Max Memory Bandwidth    51.2 GB/s
    ECC Memory Supported   Yes

I bought a pair of Astro A50's to enjoy surround sound music and gaming. I have surround for music but with gaming you need Dolby Digital Live to get 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound with this headset. I have a msi x79a-gd45 plus, now does anyone know if DDL is compatible with my on-board sound card? Apparently you can download DDL for 5 dollars and I'd love to for the sake of surround gaming, but only if it actually works with my card.

Have you checked with the Realtek website for that application?

  • Motherboard X79A-GD45 (8D) and bios 7760vC5.

In the bios I can activate "Fast Boot" but I am no longer able to set the following sub-options as I could do with bios 7760vC4:
    1. Network Stack Driver Support – Enabled / Disabled
    2. USB Support – Full Initial / Partial Initial / Disabled
    3. PS2 Devices Support – Enabled / Disabled
When I now activate that "Fast Boot" wat setting will be active for the sub-options not shown anymore?

I am not 100% sure, but if Fast Boot / Win 8 options are enabled all of those settings are moot and un-needed / un-available.
    PS2 = legacy
    USB support default to full
Network Stack Driver is bypassed during fast boot
Again these are only assumptions, you might want to contact MSI directly for an exact answer.

  • X79A-GD45 8D - 48GB RAM Configuration?

I have recently purchased an MSI X79A-GD45 8D motherboard along with 48GB RAM (6 x 8GB DIMMs). I can't seem to find a configuration for the 6 DIMMs without the endless boot cycle. 32GB is fine in slots 1-4 and I have tried adding the additional 2 in various combinations of the remaining slots but nothing seems to work.
Is it possible? If so, what configuration should I try?

most of the time you need to use either 2 , 4 or 8 dimms 6 will cause problems also what ram are you using?
what other componants do you have in your sysetm:
    >>Posting Guide<<
your unlikely to get any useful help with the highly limited and vague description of what your using!
are the dimms from a set of 6 matching dimms in a kit was it 3packs of 2x8GB was it a pack or 4x8 and a pack of 2x8GB dimms or 2 sets oor 3x8GB?
check my signature bellow this post to see the sort of info needed but ill put a check list below!
    what mother board?
    CPU model being used?
RAM (make and model and was its multiple kits)?
what VGA card do you have?
what PSU you using and its +12V rail/s ampage ratings?

  • X79A GD45 Slow start and slow boot into windows with SSD

Im having some major issues with my X79A GD45 board, When I start the system it takes about 30 seconds sometimes more for something to appear on the screen and from cold boot it starts stops and then starts again before loading.
Once its loaded it is taking forever to get into windows Im running 2 6gb/s SSD's in raid and the windows logo is able to appear and flash 3 or 4 times before I even get into windows.
Ive tried it with just a single drive and re installations of windows but get exacly the same thing its driving me mad as Ive spent so much money on this machine. Details of my system are below:
    MSI X79A GD45 v1.0 Bios 1.6
    Intel I7 3820
    Corsair Vengeance 16gb 1600 Cl9
    2 x GTX 680 in SLi
Creative Soundblaster 3D Recon Fatality Sound Card
    2 x Sandisk Extreme 240gb in Raid 0
    Silvertone Strider 850w PSU
    LG Bluray Writer

Updated the SSD Firmwares and it made no difference. Ive already tried single drives and the same. The drives are installed into SATA 1 and SATA2 ports the 6gb/s ones. The hang time is atleast 20 seconds at the splash screen alone before loading into windows. I checked the event log for booting and this is what it showed:

  • MSI ramdisk MSI-X79A-GD45 plus motherboard

    I have MSI-X79A-GD45 plus motherboard and i have 64GB of ddr3-1600mhz rams.
I want to boot windows 7 from ramdisk backup img using msi ramdisk. is it possible?
when the boot loader of windows loads the ramdisk?
I am designing a bootloader software for running windows on ramdisk.
    My strategy is
I install my bootloader/disk enumerator to ssd or usb flash drive. disk enumerator shows old hdd and ssd drives.
    i install 64bits w7 os on ssd
i install my usefull softwares to work(photoshop, maya etc)
i create a 36 GB sytem image file without compression. its name is readyos.vhd
i add an entry to my bootloader/disk enumerator when i power on my computer .
    bootloader> load readyos.vhd,ramdisk(0);
    boot;
it loads vhd image to ramdisk and sytem goes on.
when i restrart pc bootloader loads vhd and sytem runs but its frozen because i dont modify readyos.vhd file.
whats msi thinking about this idea?

You need to have WWindows running in order to use the RAMDisk application.  You cannot start the RAMDisk first.  You must start Windows first THEN load the RANDisk application.
AFAIK, it is not possible to do the opposite.

  • X79A-GD45-8D faulty or soemthing else

well the X79A-GD45-8D purpled screen the os(vmware)
    tried to reboot boot failed
    long story short
i had to pull 2 sticks of ram out of the right hand (looking at the board ) both out of the blue slots to make it boot.
i checked the mem in another machine and checked in different slots and they work
So it looks like 2 slots on the motherboard for ram have just died..
Any other options that may bring the 2 slots to life so the machine will boot with out excluding the sticks from the machine?

    Memory slots has a number.
It won't boot at all with those sticks or would it POST and crash later?
This a new build or it just happened after a while, how long?
I don't think memory slots die, it may be the CPU.

if you still have that Value RAM stick (by using that to post and get the system up and running) you could try updating the BIOS to Version 2.7 (Latest) by >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< using option 1 and pointing it at the archive for 2.7 found on the product page here http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X79AGD45.html#/?div=BIOS and retry the RAM you have that seems to be causing you problems as it may just be that which is the problem!
