  • X79A-GD45 windows 7 freezes during boot after bios upgrade/usb 3.0 drivers inst.

    Hello,
After I upgraded my bios from 1.3 to 1.4 I noticed I still had some not properly installed hardware in the computer management screen, so I used live update 5 and found the the Renesas USB3.0 Drivers. The system runs fine, except from a cold start.
When starting the machine, windows freezes on the 4 colour logo, before the usb initializes (this I can tell from the keyboard not lighting up).
A forced reboot does not help. However, going in the bios (to check if all drives are functional) and then booting, does. After this the machine runs fine again.
Now my question is, is this caused by the new bios or by the Renesas USB3.0 Drivers? Or is it something completely different?
    Thanks a lot,
    Floris
    X79A-GD45

Using LU5 often ends up this way doing UEFI/BIOS updates dead board!
In the future, recommend to use the forum flasher found here with instructions on how to use it; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.0
After a flash, it is also recommended to remove the power cord from the PSU, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS & reset.

As it just applies to certain versions they might really have removed those. Time will tell if C3 and other missing ones will be available soon.
In the meantime the beta versions are still available here and have proved to work so far.

  • MSI X79A-GD45 8D - B2 at boot

    Hey,
Just bought a Asus GTX680 4gb graphic card to replace my gigabyte HD7970 GHz edition card.
My system works just fine with the HD card but when putting in the GTX680 card it stucks before the bios windows and only shows the message B2.
However if i wait about a minute it does proceed but then for a second there was a lot of color streaks (looks just wrong) and then it jumped into the start of windows 8 screen where it froze..
I have seen some threads talking about B2 could refer to cpu problems and such but wouldn't i have had about the same problem with the HD7970 too then as it's quiet equal to the other one?
Bought the computer in december and got the following setup:
    MSI X79A-GD45 8D
    Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz
    Corsair 32GB (4x8192MB) CL9 1600Mhz
Corsair SSD Force 3 Series 120GB
    Noctua NH-D14 SE2011
Corsair AX 750W 80+ Gold Modular
GK ATI Gigabyte HD7970 Ghz Ed 3GB
Anyone here that might have any knowledge about this? Would be very grateful for any assistance
PS. i did see a thread mentioning turning of legacy which helped someone with this problem but did not help in my case.

My fault, I mean an update for the VGA, not the mainboard. A brand X UEFI/BIOS would in fact kill your mainboard. Using a HDD with an OS on it from another machine is not really a good test as the drivers, chipset, etc. can be completely wrong. X79 default is AHCI Mode, and if the other HDD OS was installed under IDE Mode, that makes sense it wouldn't boot past the log in.
Just an FYI, but have a look in this section of the forum that is VGA related, and as you can see, there are a lot of issues with GOP VBIOS and graphics cards with Windows 8. MSI files will not work on your VGA though.

Do you think a work around could be to install the latest bios update and install windows 7 instead? i.e would that hypothetically reset drivers in the bios that might been install with windows 8?
I've heard horror stories about once Windows 8 is installed with it's embedded key, trying to install Windows 7 is a total disaster. It might work if a switch is made to the other BIOS chip and then installed Windows 7?     Might be worth a try. It would sure maybe answer the question about the GOP VBIOS being needed on that VGA.

  • Msi x79a-gd45 - Continuous restar loop - Code 67

My computer was working normally yesterday installed my 2 vga and the problem started:
Problem: everything appears to power up correctly, but it only stays powered up for about 5 seconds, then it switchs off, and then continues to repeat this process.
It also restarts and does the same thing in a continuous loop.
Debug display flashes 19, then 67 OR 6F
The vga This Ok, tested it on another computer, also tested other memories and nothing remains the same.
I tested with only 1 vga and the same thing, do not know what to do.
    My Pc:
    Msi x79a-gd45
    i7-3820 - Bios 1.4
    8gb 4x2 G.Skill Eco 1.35V 1600mhz
    3x MSI R6970 Lighting
    Antec 1200w PSU
    Someone can Help me?
    thanks

31 is a memory problem. Is this two separate 2X2GB kits mixed together? UEFI/BIOS v1.4 is the correct basic one to support your CPU, so that should not be a problem.
Added additional info: The memory manufacturer does not show X79 platform as being supported. Also, if using two kits, please see note 3..

tested with one memory on list and got same error..
I will send the cpu and motherboard to RMA...
I do not know what happened
    thanks!!

  • MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) Prime95 Error

I am currently trying to get my system stable and i have the following parts:
    -MSI X79A GD45 8D with latest official Bios 7760CV6
    -Intel 3930K
    -8x2GB Corsair Dominator
    -GTS250 512MB
    -Seasonic GS650
I tried running prime95 blend test and it gave me a rounding error for 4 out of the 12 threads in about 20 minutes. I rebooted and ran prime95 again, everything went fine or 45 minutes, so I turned it off. I wanted to prime95 this morning before I left, but it failed 4 out of 12 threads again.
I reduced timing of RAM to 10-10-10-34 2T timing @ 1066mhz with 1.55v on voltage. Still failing prime95. However, I ran 3 full loops of memtest and no errors.
So if anyone can recommend me settings that can help possibly stabilize, that would be great. I know running 8 sticks with 2GB isn t ideal and thats most likely the root of error but if I can find a way to stabilize and not have to buy new RAM that would be great.
Im more worried if it is motherboard problem or CPU problem. RAM has lifetime warranty so I can fix later, but my CPU and motherboard only has one year of warranty and I want to make sure everything is running okay. To be honest, I haven't had the time to even use the PC so thats why I'm barely even finding time to make sure it is all stable, one year later...

8 filled DIMMS at that speed is probably too much from the IMC. Try increase the dramv to 1.65 and the I/o to 1.1 but most likely you will need to slow down the ram. The difference will not be noticeable.
Corsair is also very accommodating, you may be able to get them to rma those stick for a 4x4 kit which should work better.

  • MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) BIOS help??

Hi guys, I'm new here as I've only just managed (barely!) to build my first PC. Although I'm slightly worried that once I turn it on the BIOS of my motherboard won't be the version required to run the i7-3820. I've read in a number of threads from different forums and it seems to be a recurring theme of this motherboard being slightly problematic.
I'm still waiting on my PSU so I can't check it quite yet although everything else has been assembled.
My question is, can I find out the BIOS version of my motherboard from something like a serial no., and if so, where?
My system is as follows -
    MSI X79A-GD45(8D)
    i7-3820
    R9 270x Hawk
    2x8GB G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 2133
    Cooler Master Hyper 412s
    Corsair RM650 80 Plus Gold 650W
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as advice on what to do if the BIOS is an old man.
P.S. - there is a ''revision history'' inside the ''software & application'' user guide which notes an update of something (not sure if BIOS) up to ''v1.6 - Update Control Center 2.5 and add MSI SUITE''.
    Thanks!

That's a fairly new board. It is manufactured 2013-02-08. All Sandy Bridge E cpus (all 3820s) should be supported out of the box then. It is most likely at bios 10.7 (7760vA7) one of the last bios versions before Ivy Bridge E support had been implemented. A newer bios (12.1) came 2013-02-21.
Sounds like good news, although I'm a pessimist by nature...

It is doubtful if that reseller has done anything with the board's initial factory installed UEFI/BIOS version. An admin or moderator will be able to determine the date of manufacture for you and what course of action will need to be done.
You could always try the CPU and see if it will POST or not. No harm should be done trying it. If it doesn'r POST, then you have a pretty good idea it needs the UEFI/BIOS updated. Be sure to 'barebones' the system (minimum hardware installed) outside the case on a plain piece of unprinted cardboard or untreated wood. One RAM stick in the DIMM1 slot.
Hopefully I wont have to follow this advice, took me so long to set everything up!
I did manage to find a few dates on the mobo itself, including one mentioning ''EuP 2013'' as well as a sticker ending with the numbers ''2014''. I think it's a good indication although I may just be seeing what I want to there. Any idea what EuP means?
Thanks for your help so far guys.
