X79A-GD65 (8D) memory issues.

Greetings Everyone! I've just joined this forum.
My issue is that i cant use all eight memory sockets without the board getting stuck in POST with the debug code 67.
I currently use the mainboard on this computer but with only 5 sticks in.
The memorysticks i use are two sets of "Corsair 16GB (4x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE Quad Channel" totalling 32GB.
I cannot add any of the remaining sticks in slot 4, 6 and 8. I've done it in all thinkable methods even test booting with every stick placed in every slot. took me a good two hours of testing.
I've also tried the sticks in a Gigabyte 1366 motherboard with four slots and both sets run on it.
I contacted Corsair and it looks like i have to send the memorysticks to them for a checkup but i wont know for sure until i hear from them later next week. I'll discuss the issue further with them then.
This is my current set-up (i point out that the parts i've changed are the Mainboard, CPU and memory from the 1366 computer)
Mainboard: MSI X79A-GD65(8D).
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820.
Memory: Two sets of Corsair Vengeance Quad channel 4x4Gb 1600MHz.
Graphics card: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 OC.
Main boot device: WD 500Gb.
PSU: Corsair HX-650

Hi everyone and i must thank you for such speedy answers and support.
On the server issue. I do use alot of servers, not normal servers as you would think but gameservers. I like to run dedicated servers for like CS:S, Minecraft and such and i have startded playing ARMA:2 alot lately and i want to run them simultaneously for extended periods.
I was planning to install ARMA:2 in the RAM because of its extreme loading times when editing maps and missions. And also i like to run Firefox, Java, WinRAR and other background programs from the RAM.
I also want the amount of RAM for the pleasure of just having it. I understand how a primitive feeling that is but it feels good.
I understand now that i will never get all sticks to work but i do run 5 of them at this moment so i got 20GB of memory and already have set up a 12GB ramdisk.
I will discuss the issue with Corsair when we get in touch on the Support thread i've created hoping to send my modules to them and change them to a 8 stick kit and me paying the shipment and differance in price.
EDIT: Should i flash the BIOS anyway according to xmad's statement? Should i in that case default the BIOS and run only 2 sticks?
p.s. I have got to stop editing these posts....

Been having issues with BSOD's and random boot issues (has trouble posting on occasion). Everyone of my error codes pointed to memory (0x1A for example). I had 4 sticks of 4GB ram in DIMM slots 1, 3 , 5, and 7. Memtest86+ ran smoothly overnight, however, Prime95 detected a hardware issue. Reading online told me that RAM is usually the culprit, so I switched down to 1 DIMM of RAM and so far Prime95 is running fine. I have heard of issues with slots 5 & 7. Can anyone confirm this? Also, this is just two packs of dual channel RAM. Would I be better off getting a quad channel pack?
    Thanks,
    Devin

Doesn't always matter. Henry, one of the forum mods has reported having three identical part number sticks, and all three had different makers chips on them. +1 on the recommendation to get a matched quad kit for your rig.
so true, i have had many packs of  dual channel memory kits that have different chips even though there the same make and model! (even though there the same type kits doesnt mean there the same chips on the ram modules, manufacturers will update them after only a few months of in some cases weeks as better ones become avalible or the ones there using run out)

Previously, I was having a few issues with my board. I was having the common error of CPU posting as well as memory issues. Since then, these have all mostly subsided.

My current issue occurs at start up. When the computer has been turned off for some time, and I want to start it back up - it will not. In order to start up my computer, I have to hit the CMOS Reset on the back (on the io board) and then start up my computer. It's a minor inconvenience - but I shouldn't have to.
The board originally shipped with possibly Bios 1.0-1.1 (as stated by others, mine has a sticker with a red dot)..... I've since flashed to the latest (which I believe is 1.6 - successfully).
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to remedy this?

Sorry I didn't wanted to hijack the post. I'm new on this forum, and on another foruns I've been (mostly cars and engine preparation forums) people used to not post new topics about the same subject.
Anyway I found my solution. I updated the board with a C1 3960X and found that my PSU were 8 pin cable were not working properly with this board, but starngely worked well with my other board (Gigabyte Z68X UD4), so I just swaped PSUs and I'm fine.

  • 890FXA-GD65 Small memory issue.

Hello, I am having some difficult getting my memory to run at rated speeds when I try tweaking my bios settings I cannot get to to read at 1600, they default to 1333 1.5v so i changed the voltage in the bios to 1.666 reason i used 1.666 instead of 1.65 is because MSI control reads 1.65 as a lower voltage and 1.666 as 1.653. My first question is should I go by bios voltage or trust msi control in windows.
After changing my voltage my speeds stayed at 1333 so i changes the ratio when changing the ratio i can only set it to 1333, 1500, or 1800. So this brings me to my second question, why cant I get my memory to run at 1600.
Third question, should i just run my memory at 1800 and try CL 8 instead of 1600 and going for CL 7. Currently I have my memory running at 1500 with CL7 since i cant get it to 1600.
I'm a bit new to this so if I am missing so info on how memory speeds adjust please let me know

    Hi Scooter31,
Go into Bios and then enter Cell Menu. Before doing this if you are using any oc utility turn them off. After entering cell menu check CPU FSB, it should be at 200.(I suspect it is at 225). If you want to run cpu at 3.8 put fsb at 200 and set cpu multiplier at 19.
Next go to memory and enter fsb/ratio, should then see 1:2, 1:2.66, 1:3.33, 1:4. Enter the 1:4 and exit this category. Line below fsb/ratio should read 800 which being DDR is x2=1600!
Possibly move this topic to OCing and Modding.
    Hope this helps.

  • FX990A-GD65 serious memory issues

i have recently purchased a new motherboard with the FX8320, the problem here is : (please follow me carefully :p )
    - when i place my 4Gb in single channel mode BUT in the last slot \"from the CPU and go on), the config seems be working fine with no problems at all.
    - when i place my 4Gb memory in the 3rd slot, the pc boots normally BUT it reboots after awhile (when gaming or using resource intensive programs).
    - when i place my 4Gb memory in the 2nd slot, the PC boots BUT it does'nt last long before the reboot problem strikes again !!
    - when i place my 4Gb in the first slot, the PC doesn\'t boot at all, no matter what i try, it gives me no bios or whatever !!
now this is the tricky part, when i activate the dual channel ( putting 2x same memory stick \"ADATA btw\"), the PC boots normally, BUT ,boom, it began its restart loop problem
please help me, I've tried every thing, i am actually in Algeria, and the tek service is so BAD, and i cant afford another mobo for the moment ( i am a jobless poor young man ^^)
OH yeah another problem i am facing, the OCII genie functionality is NOT working !! when i enable it, my PC wont boot to bios untill i reset CMOS
    thank you in advance

some people told me that in that board, memory DIMMs are ordred in inverse .. DIMM1 is DIMM4 an so..

What model is that PSU? I think part of your problem may be due to it not being powerful enough for your system. With that graphics card you have you need a PSU that can supply at least 28A on the +12V rail. Recommend a quality PSU with a single +12V rail such as Corsair, not a PSU that has 2,3 or 4 +12V rails. Another thing you should do is download memtest and run the tests on your memory.
       http://www.memtest86.com/
DIMM1 is slot closet to the CPU socket. For proper dual channel operation use DIMM1 & DIMM3, the 2 black slots.

to fix it I goto bios, load default and then set the exact same settings, im guess its auto-detecting some setting wrong

First of all, overclocking & overvolting are faulty activities.
With new components you might get some stability for a while.
But sooner or later you'll pay the price.
    Secondly, that link again:

    4x4GB DDR3-1600 means double dual channel, in other words 2x12.8 = 25.6GB/s
I'm sorry, your posts have nothing to do with my questions, I get that you want to run stock, but I don't and haven't since my 486

It's quite possible that the actual voltages are lower than whats indicated in the BIOS. This is what I observed on the Z68 board when I use a Digital Multimeter. So increasing the voltages ever so slightly may solve the problem as the actual may be just a tad too low. Don't know if your board has V check points, but if it does, its worth your while checking them with a DMM.
I can look into that, dont have info yet on measurement points, but increasing the SA voltage is definitly helping.  I'm able to run prime95 for hours now, before max ~20-30 min

  • X79A-GD65 (8D)+ memory 2400Mhz ?

    Greetings to all.
    Has faced the following problem:
    Firmware 1.3:
Kingston HyperX KHX2400C11D3K4/8GX isn't started on 2400Mhz, and on 2133 Mhz too  . Input manually doesn't help.
Kingston HyperX KHX2133C10D3X2K2/4GX is started without problems with XMP (It was possible to start at 2219 Mhz ).
    Firmware 1.48 (Beta):
Kingston HyperX KHX2400C11D3K4/8GX it is started without problems on 2133 Mhz, to start on 2400Mhz it is not possible. Input manually and increase of voltage doesn't help).
Kingston HyperX KHX2133C10D3X2K2/4GX it is started only on 1866 Mhz. Input manually and increase of voltage doesn't help.
There is at whom a successful example of start of similar system on 2400 Mhz?
What probability, what new UEFI will correct this problem?

You have already tested with the latest beta available to date. Best advice would be to open a ticket with MSI Tech Support with your findings so they can work on developing a solution or compatibility resolve. Reaching a stable 2400 was not possible with Corsair's flagship CMGTX3's modules here either.
Everything that is set by default goes by the SPD programmed profiles on the chips. Even though the mainboard supports 2400, the CPU IMC does not. It is natively 1600 @ 1.50v's + or - 0.075v's.
If X.M.P. doesn't set the RAM to it's 'rated' speed, or won't reach it's 'rated' specifications manually, it can be a problem with the RAM itself, or a compatibility issue. Another suggestion would be to visit the Kingston forum or manufacturer's Website for any assistance they may be able to provide. Most RAM manufacturer's have disclaimers concerning 'rated' speeds, & state that results may vary.

Much like Douchbag in this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=157198.msg1156258  I am having almost the same problem. When I boot the PC, all the proper LEDs light up and all looks good however the debug LED panel displays: 19, 61, FF. After about 5 seconds of showing FF, the PC shuts off. Five more seconds later it powers up again. The process starts over.
Below I have listed the steps I have taken during troubleshooting all with the same result upon boot:
    - Try booting with RAM in DIMM 1 and 2
    - Try booting with RAM in DIMM 3 and 4
    - Try booting with RAM in DIMM 1 (all 4 modules)
    - Cleared CMOS

Eventhough i had to pay for the upgrade (mailing and 30 min work for the support guy) and they only upgraded one of the bios', it got fixed. And the system is now running like a charm.
    Glad to hear it is now up and running. To flash the other chip, please use the forum's USB flasher found here;

Double check the exact model of your mainboard as the UEFI/BIOS version may not be the same, and download the file from one of MSI's Websites. The reason I mention this is because there is a X79A-GD65 and a X79A-GD65(8D). They may use different versions.

  • X79A-GD65 (8D) with 8x16GB memory, anyone?

I have a X79A-GD65 (8D) motherboard. Started by setting it up with Kingston 2x4=8 GB (KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX) and this works just fine. Trying to install 8 x Kingston KVR16R11D4K4/64I for 128 GB fails. Tried two modules in DIMM 1 / 3. The three blue LEDs light on the motherboard, LED display says 'b0', but no screen activity.
    Also updated from BIOS v 1.70 to v 1.80.

You messed up badly here. The 16GB modules you've got are registered RAM. Server boards can deal with the clock driver of those modules but desktop boards cannot.
If it was just ECC RAM (not registered) then it might have worked even if the CPU and mobo didn't support ECC modules (according to standards at least, ECC RAM is not officially supported by X79A-GD65 nor Core i processors), registered RAM however is really not going to work.
How the heck did you end up with this kind of RAM modules anyway? Shops with personel having even the very basic technical expertise would never give these to you for use on a desktop board.

That 128GB RAM is the max theoretical value.
The real memory amount depends on your processor.
But you didn't say anything about it ...
Anyway, in most of the cases you are limited to 32-64GB RAM.

If you are going to fill all 8 slots, you are better off getting an 8 stick matched and tested kit. Reason, mixing kits even though the same part number may have different chips on them and not be compatible with each other. That particular RAM manufacturer even has some disclaimers about that with some kits.
    That's right.

    3. G.SKILL guarantees module compatibility within this specific Quad Channel kit. Combining with other memory kit or module (even with same part number) is not recommended to avoid any compatibility issue.
In fact, 8 memory modules is not a good idea at all.
There will be a huge bandwidth demand and you'll need to raise the voltages and/or to slow them down.
Otherwise you'll get into stability issues.
