X79A-GD65 8D - Won't detect drives during Windows Install

As the title suggests, Windows installer refuses to detect the SSD/HDDs in my system. I'm guessing I need to preload a driver but Im completely in the dark about what driver.
Anyone have any insight?

RAID Mode on the Intel Controller, correct?

  • X79a-gd65 (8D) won't pass bios

     Hi,
I'm back again with my x79a-gd65 (8D)...I did a stupid thing I tested the "OC genie Software" from inside windows 7...
The program asked me to reboot so it could complete OC setup - so I did. It passed BIOS, loaded Windows login. Then I revieced  an error when logging in (something and userenv.dll), then getting a black screen (apperently "logged in"). Hit "ctrl+alt+del" and logging out, then "shut off".
Started it up, passed BIOS, I got the choice to Repair Windows or Start Normal. Trying Repair Windows first, it loads the files, then straight back to the choice again Repair Win or Norm... Testing start without repair i got a Blue Screen, reboot, and back to the choice after passing BIOS.
Shut off my computer, killed the PSU, switched on the PSU and then my computer. Now it doesn't pass BIOS check, I recieve a debug code "B2" (Legacy Option ROM Initialization)...
I've had the same setup since i bought it 14 months ago with no problems before this.
Any ideas? I'm in panic mode atm.

    32gb gSkill RAM
    Nvidia Quadro 2000D

Perform a full cmos clear of the bios and re-test.
Remember that when you are done you are going to need to re-set the Hard drive mode (IDE / AHCI / RAID) etc.

  • X79A-GD65(8D) won't boot/enter BIOS

Hi, just got my new board and after rebuilding, it won't let me enter BIOS . POST seems to finish, i see the graphic, then the screen goes blank with a flashing cursor top right of screen.
    specs as follows
    X79A-GD65(8D) board
    32gb Corsair ram (8x4gb)
    Gigabyte t560TI
    Seaget 2TB and 1TB HDD's
    i7-3820 proccessor
Cant find out what the BIOS verion is
I have stripped it right back to 1 stick of ram and one HDD, no change.  Have completely dismantled and checked all connectors.
All help gratefully appreciated, this is/was my main work PC and i'm stuck badly without it.

I'm thinking the UEFI/BIOS version may be the problem. Early production mainboards may have been shipped with v1.0 or v1.2. To support the CPU you have, v1.4 is required.
Added: Standard USB keyboard and mouse? Initial startup should be with minimum components, not 8 sticks of RAM and all the HDD's. Makes it hard to troubleshoot if there is a problem. With just the one stick in the primary dimm slot, power off, pull the PSU power cord, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS and see if you can get into the UEFI/BIOS when tapping the Delete key. Was there a code number in the bottom right of the screen also?

how do I update the bios?
Do you have a bootable USB stick? Try the CMOS clear first.

Just updated my bios to 4.1, unable to overclock after the update, multiplier stuck at 32 or sometimes 38.  I've set everything as before with bios 1.8 but no success.  Bios boots normally (does not say failed OC)
Is there some new setting to enable OC in 4.1 or

  • Black screen during Windows install

    Hello,
I have a late 2012 27-inch iMac with the GeForce 680MX 2GB graphics card. I'm trying to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 using Boot Camp, but neither works.
In either case, I can use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a bootable USB install disk, download the latest Windows support software from Apple, and partition the drive to allocate space for the Windows installation.
As soon as I partition the drive, the iMac restarts and tries to boot into Windows. But the only thing I ever see is a black screen (no blinking cursor), no matter how long I wait.
This seems like the exact same issue that plagued the late-2009/mid-2010 iMacs,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
In other words, it looks like the drivers included with the default Windows install disk don't work on the late 2012 iMac, at least not when configured with the 680MX.
Since this looks like the old problem but Apple doesn't appear to have provided drivers for the new iMac yet (the older iMacs above used ATI graphics, not NVIDIA), I tried to add the latest NVIDIA notebook graphics card drivers to the Windows install disk using the directions here,
    http://superuser.com/questions/501812/corrupt-graphics-during-windows-8-installa tion
In particular, I used these drivers,
    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/55125
They're not explicitly supporting the 680MX (I couldn't find any drivers for it in NVIDIA's website) but they do support the 680M and a whole slew of other cards. Thought it was worth a try.
Anyway, that didn't do the trick. Still the black screen for me.
Any ideas? Have others had this issue with the new iMacs?
    Thanks

    OK, I figured it out.
You know how the Boot Camp Assistant gives you three options? Create Windows Boot Disk, Download Latest Drivers, Install. You basically need to do all three at once, from scratch.
I'm not sure exactly when in the last couple of months, but Apple updated their drivers. A few days ago I gave this another shot. Initially I tried using the USB stick I had previously created, but using some of the links at the first post above, I tried to inject the new NVidia drivers provided by Apple. That didn't help. I got the black screen and all that all over again.
But then I just tried to start from scratch, remaking the USB stick while simultaneously downloading the drivers. It then also asked me if I wanted to install a new helper tool. I never got that prompt before. Either that tool solved it, or when it was creating the boot disk now it was injecting the new drivers itself in some different way.
Whatever it was, try starting from scratch and going through all the steps and you might be successful in classic "it just works" Apple fashion. Took them a couple of months, but they got there.

  • X79A GD65 8D Won't Boot

    Starts OK. Proceeds to message:
Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.90 IDE Mode
    S.M.A.R.T. Supported
    Using PCIE Gen 2
    Can't find any device.
And then it just hangs on a black (ish)  screen with just the cursor blinking.
I thought that the BIOS needed updating to the latest version to support the i7 3820 but I took it to my local shop to do this and they were able to boot it up on the bench no problems and left the BIOS as is. I get it back and assemble it again into the case and it wont boot again.
    Any ideas at all folks?
    Regards
    Alistair

What vga do you have? Did you try switching to alternate bios?
Problem is solved. When I tried flobelix's solution it was late at night and I lazily just used DVI on the graphics card and it did not work. This morning I pulled out my old vga monitor and presto it worked (once I connected a drive that is - without one it won't find a UEF map). So I am now going to update video drivers etc. and finish off the build.
As it transpired the message I get at the startup was a red herring and quite normal as I still get it on successful bootup, The message is:
Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.90 IDE Mode
    S.M.A.R.T. Supported
    Using PCIE Gen 2
    Can't find any device.
    Thanks flobelix for you help!

  • X79A GD65 8D Won't Boot/Post/No Display

    Hi,
Just recently bought this board with the following hardware
    Intel 3930K C2 Processor
    32 GB 4gb x 8 Gskill 2133 Memory
    2 x 590 nVidia Graphics
    2 x OCZ Vertex 3 SSds
All but the processor were in my last PC and worked fine.
I installed the board/CPU but when I boot the PC lights up but nothing else happens.
There is no video displayed and the LED debug screen stays blank.
I have tried it with minimal h/w (1 graphics card/1 or 2 Memory) but this has no effect.
In fact taking all the hardware out entirely gives the same result as does taking out the CPU.
I have read on the forum that the original BIOS didn't support the C2 stepping ; would this cause this issue ?
If so is there any way to resolve without getting a 2nd processor ?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks

Err... Just reading the manual (don't usually bother I'll be honest) .... is JPWR3 important ?  I thought it was for the external SATA connectors (since the expansion card has the same type of power adapter on it) but the manual says it's for 'use to provide power to the graphics card). This obviously sounds like it would cause a problem with video display (!)  but I had assumed that the 2 x 8 pin power cables to each graphics card would be all they would need. In any case I would have assumed that the motherboard would still boot/error codes display.
I'll be really embarrassed if this is the problem .. I have sent the board for testing back in the UK (can't get a local shop to do it) so if this is the problem I can let them know and avoid too much diagnostics.
    Thanks

  • Samsung Convoy 2. Won't load driver for Windows XP

I am trying to use any of several programs to access data on my Convoy. I am using Windows XP, on a laptop and another XP machine that is a desktop.
When I plug the phone into the laptop, a box pops up that says, "Software is available that will help your Convoy 2 (SCH-U660) communicate with You PC. Download Now?"
I click "Yes" and I get a downloading and installing box but right after clicking "Yes," I also get an error that says, "Windows cannot find 'C:\Documents and Settings\mlzbb\Local Settings\temp\VerizonRCFile.EXE'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
The thing is, I did not type any name. The software did this automatically.
The install box just stops and looks as though it's complete, but it still says "Installing."
On the original error, when I click OK, it says, "Error installing Samsung Mobile USB Driver, Exiting..."
When I click OK on that box, the installing box goes away and nothing else happens.
I manually installed VZAcces Manager but it does not see the phone.
On the destop machine with XP, it detects that something has been connected to it, but it just sees the phone as a USB storage device. I don't get any pop-up for the software.

Here's what has worked for me for installing drivers for a Samsung non-smartphone and an LG non-smartphone on a PC using Windows XP. Hopefully you'll have the same outcome that I have had.
    - keep the cellphone unplugged from the computer
    - head to http://www.vzam.net/download/download.aspx
    - navigate through  these menus
    1. What operating system are you using?
    2. What device are you using?
    3. What hardware are you using?
    - and select Samsung U660 ("Convoy 2")
    - Download the vzam file
    - This file downloaded from that vzam.net link is set up to install two things: a driver and VZAccess Manager.
After you click on the file downloaded from vzam.net, the file will install first the phone driver. A message will appear on the screen such as
"Installing LG USB Modem Driver, this may take a moments ..."
    or
"Installing Samsung Mobile USB Driver, this may take a few moments ..."
When the file is finished installing the driver and is ready to install VZAccess Manager, this message appears on the screen: "Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for VZAccess Manager". And that message has two options -- "Next" and "Cancel". Because the file from vzam.net already finished installing the phone driver, we can click "Cancel" to cancel installation of VZAccess Manager.
At this point now that the driver is installed, when I plug the phone into the computer I now don't have any problems with the computer recognizing the phone.

  • During Windows install, says the Bootcamp Windows partition is incorrect file system and won't install

I had another Macbook Pro retina which I installed Windows 8 on with no problems via bootcamp.  I just updated to the late 2013 model of the Macbook Pro, and attempted to do the same thing but have had problems.  I create the partition for Windows with Bootcamp, restart the computer, and after I enter my security key in the Windows installation screen it comes to the screen where you have to select the appropriate installation drive.  When I select the drive I created for Windows, it says that it can't install due to the file system.  I have no idea why I'm having this problem because I had done this once before....I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong and I'm at a loss.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I will greatly appreciate it...also let me know if there are differences from the early 2013 model and late 2013 model that would've created this problem.  Thanks!!
    Robert

    Well, here is what happened...
Somehow in making a Windows partition then removing the partition so many times I created an error where it only showed 1/2 of my hard drive...like it was starting to create the second half for the windows side and ran into an error.
So this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because what I had to do was go to "Command + R" when I was starting up and format the entire drive, all 500 gb.  This formatted the whole drive and must've erased whatever was causing the trouble.
Of course, then I had to reinstall OS X, and reinstall my Time Machine backup, but then I opened bootcamp and created the Windows partition again.  This time, when I ran the EFI installer you were referring to on the far right (which I had tried before), it allowed me to click next and continue once I selected the Windows partition.  Thank God!  It must've fixed whatever file system error was hanging it up there every time....because it's installing now.
What I would suggest if all else fails, just format the whole dang thing.  Then try from square one and see if you can install

  • Blue Screen during Windows install on SATA Raid1

    Hi Folks!
I have a BIG problem with my brand new Eclipse SLI.
I can't install Windows (tried Vista and XP x64). It crashes already in the beginning!!!
I'm not an OC,yet so all my settings are like default or AUTO. Only my memory I set to 1600 through automatic settings.
Flashed in a brand new 1.6 BIOS.
Now, anytime I start the Windows setup if crashes with a blue screen when it comes to the point it tries to access the hard discs.
I was already able to set up a new partition and then Visat was extracting files. But after a few minutes (1% finished) it crash.
The blue screen indicates that it had problems to write a file.
Thing is ... it's always at different times, but still at the beginning of the setup. Sometime it don't get the setup even running.
I tried the Drive Booster RAID and the JMicron. Always created a new RAID1!
Sometimes the board freezed even by entering the BIOS.
I already figured it my be to hot.
Here my temperatures.  CPU: 28- 35C, IOH: 50-68C, System: 35C
But I already read that IOH temperatur seems normal.
    So what's the problem?
    PLEEEEEAAAASSEEEEE HEEEEEEEEEELP !!!!

    Thanks!
Found myself a solution. Deactivated all additional features in the BIOS. Now it'S working even with 1600 RAM frequency.
Trying now to still do some OC without getting into the same trouble.

    Hi,
For some reason my drives are not showing in windows or in device manager or anywhere. The show in bios. I'm not sure if it is a windows issue. I have a new build and the drives all showed for the first few days then after some updates they have gone.
Do I need to update the bios? I have not updated it but I only bought the motherboard about 20 days ago.
