everything installed as should been,but when i insert usb 3.0 key win7 says that this device could perform faster in usb 3.0?!?!
also how to activate OC genie? is anyone ocing 3820?does anyone except me owns this mb?

I believe these references to be an error in the printing of the manual. That is why I recommended for the OP to contact MSI.
Its like they use one manual/ productpage and adjust it on the go when they bring out new boards

MSI X79MA-GD45 BIOS/boot problems.

Hi I've been having problems getting my board to boot consistently.
System specs are:
MB: MSI X79MA-GD45 (BIOS 3.1)
CPU: Intel 3820 (C2 stepping)
RAM: 32GB (4x8GB) Kingston HyperX Beast 2400MHz (Running 1333MHz, auto)
GPU: Zotac GTX 680 4GB
PSU: Corsair 860i
Most times I have to clear CMOS before the system will boot.
Soft reboots are fine, however, if I change stuff that requires a proper reboot, fx enabling VT-x, the system will need a clear CMOS again before it will boot.
The error I get seems to be videocard related, 1 long 2 short beeps, however the videocard works fine in my old system.
I can usually get the system to behave for a little while by reflashing BIOS.
After clearing CMOS the system boots EVERY time and runs flawless.
PS prior to BIOS 3.1 multiplier 43x (and 44x, partially) were working, now it seems to max out at 42 (regardless of BIOS setting) but this isnt really an issue as much as the system instability at stock settings.

In combination with an i7-3820 the new Win8 bios versions for all X79 boards seem to be troublesome (that's also the reason for the multi limit).
Downgrade to the prior version (1.7) with the attached archive and retry.
For flashing >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< and with it point to the attached and NOT unpacked bios archive (Mode 1: Point to archive).

MSI X79MA-GD45 + PNY GTX970 = No post

So I just got my MSI X79MA-GD45 back from RMA and decided to pair it with my i7 3960X and a PNY GTX 970. Problem is it will not POST.
I know for sure that neither the card or the mobo is bad because the mobo POST with my old Quadro card and the card POST in my HTPC. It's the combination of these two that brings about the problem.
I have tried:
1. Updating to the latest BIOS (3.8)
2. Enabling PCIE GEN3 (which gives a B2 beep code) and disabling it (which gives nothing)
3. Updating GTX 970 BIOS
4. Clearing CMOS, load factory default etc.
It's also definitely not PSU problem because I've tried running it without the power (the card would POST and give a warning that you must plug the power in) but the warning doesn't even come up. Beside my PSU is quite solid.
Basically everything that I can think of in my 6 years of PC building, I've tried. I am seriously going crazy now. If you guys can offer any more insights I am happy to hear. Thank you!

Might solve the issue. If it does not, contact both MSI and PNY for further support as if latest BIOS wont help, but both are known to work elsewhere then we are unable to help >>How to contact MSI.<<

Msi x79ma-gd45 onboard sata controller gone?

Hi,
My motherboard msi x79ma-gd45 takes 30-40 minutes before showing BIOS splash image with any kind of SATA configuration (IDE,AHCI,RAID),
and with any kind of hard disk (SSD, normal).
MoBo hangs up on 0xA2 POST CODE for about 30 minutes, then everything is working fine.
I tried to remove all the HDs and it does boot up fast. I think that the on-board sata controller is gone. Right?
I tried these bios version: 1.37, 1.5 and 3.4 problem persists
I tried to remove ram, remove GPU and disconnect all USB devices. Nothing changes.

X79MA-GD45 NO BOOT

Hello guys, having a serious problem here, i have no more resources so I hope you can help me.
The Computer:
MSI X79MA-GD45
INTEL 3930k SR0KY
PATRIOT SECTOR 5 DDR3 1600mhz 16gb (4x4) KIT
EVGA GTX 560
RAIDMAX RX-850AE 850w
WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK 1tb SATA2 7200
PIONEER DVR-219LBK DVD-RW SATA
The problem:
BIOS/UEFI is OK everything is detected as it is, both drives, CPU, temps are OK, RAM by default is 1066 but i can use XMP to set it a 1600 and loads ok, USB flash (if connected).
The thing is it wont boot anything after bios exit or by a normal start.
I just get a blank screen with a blinking dash in top left (after MSI gold logo), no matter which device priority i choose (HDD or DVD, even USB FLASH) even if I deactivate all other boot options, even if I left just one boot option.
I also changed the MoBo for a new one (thinking it was faulty) and the issue is exactly the same.
I have tried with another Hard drive ( SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA 3 ) and have no response.
I have tried with another DVD RW ( SAME PIONEER MODEL ) without response on boot.
I have left just one RAM chip, I have also tried another ram chips (Kingston HyperX and Patriot G2) with no diference at all.
I have tried another video card (asus GTX 560 direct CU) and see no diference.
I have even disconected the HDD and left just the DVDRW and it wont spin. Also just left HDD or USB flash with no response.
I have tried both SATA 3 and SATA 2 cables in both SATA 3 and SATA 2 ports and still the same.
I have tried windows 7 64 and windows vista 64 DVDs. (both original)
I have changed AHCI to IDE with no success.
I have activated and deactivated many things on bios, like C1E (disabled by default), hypertreading...
so, I dont know what to do anymore....
Bios version is 1.0, MSI claims i need V1.2 for 3930k C2 stepping (which SR0KY is supposed to be) but i don't get how to update the bios without boot options (I have also prepared an USB flash with MSIHQ tool but doesnt boot)
I've asked for technical support to MSI with no response yet, so I hope someone can help me...

X79MA-GD45 OS installation issues

Unable to install OS.
Upon starting computer I hear a single beep. It POSTs fine and I can set priority boot and have for both usb (sandisk 8g) and and LG usb cd/dvd multi disc player/writer. After selecting priority in bios and selecting from boot menu I get a flash of blue and black screen with blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. I tried both the UEFI and normal boot selection with no change. I have tried plugging in the player and flash drive in all available usb ports.
Please help, no idea what I can do from here.

Additional info: I used RMPrepUSB tool to make a bootable USB drive because I thought the cd/dvd reader wasn't recognizable being that it came with a driver disc (unable to update until OS installed). My RAM is 16g total at 4g each slot, it came 1866mhz but shows 1333mhz in bios.

Ok, so how do I update bios without an OS or ability to use a jump drive?

********Ok so I got the tool, downloaded the new bios from MSI and ran the tool to set it up and saw the following from the guide and pop up of MB info:The tool will first check, if an MSI mainboard is installed in your system and show you its model name and PCB Version in a message box.
Since the target computer is nonfunctional other than outdated bios and boot menu that doesn't recognize my drives completely... should I be using a different method for this? It seems like the tool is checking MB information to update on my crappy pentium4 32x win xp. I am basically using this comp as a researching tool to help sort out my inoperable computer at the moment. Is the tool meant for this set up?

MSI X79MA-GD45, Bios 3.2, ddr Voltage + multiplier

Hi, I just updated to the 3.2 bios on my brand new MSI X79MA-GD45 board, so not sure if it's the bios or something weird with the board overclocking. In the main overclock menu I can change ddr to the xmp or run linked and specify 1600, 1866, or 2133 etc (I also have access to the timing screen). Under the DDR voltage section it is locked and it just stays on auto (there are no [] brakets around it indicating you can change the value), same thing happens with the CPU multiplier, just stays on auto and unable to change it. Kind of pointless if I can change my ddr to 2133, but can't specify voltage to make it run stable.
Is there an overriding setting I need to enable or disable to change these values? I noticed that under the OC genie section it would let me change them all though, I would like to do the changes manually without using OC genie settings.

You have to use the keyboard numbers pad + and - keys to change the values.

MSI X79MA-GD45 and 64GB RAM

Hi,
I'm looking to build a compact server for virtualization and that's how i came across the MSI X79MA board. It's the only board I can find that supports 64GB RAM. However, I havn't found any place where I can get 16GB Unbuffered RAM sticks. So my questoin is, does that even exist?

I'm not here to get into any argument one way or the other about it but simply to post this info, from the manual for the X79MA-GD45:

MSI X79MA-GD45 64GB RAM

I bought a MSI X79MA-GD45 for my office a little while ago with 16GB RAM.
I would like to replace these 2 8gb sticks with 4x16gb, so as to have 64GB in total. However, despite the official specification stating that the board supports 64gb using 4 slots, there is not a single 16GB stick listed on the list of supported memory.
So my question is, is it even possible, to get 64GB of RAM working on this mainboard, or do I have to start looking for an alternative?

If 16gb stick have reached the market (Which they hadn't last I checked)

Why so much ram, might be better to look for a server mainboard if you really need more than 32GB right now.

X79MA-GD45 does not POST

Hello,
I have problems getting my newly acquired X79MA-GD45 to POST, what happens when I power it up is that it goes into an seemingly infinite reboot cycle. When pressing the power button, everything (fans, hds) lights up for about five seconds or so, then things shut down again before starting all over again. The speaker is completely silent.
I'm using a i7-3820 CPU, I've tried three different memory modules (Patriot PGD316G1600ELK, Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1600C9, Corsair CMV4GX3M2A1333C9) to no avail, the two latter modules were working fine in my old motherboard. When removing the memory altogether, the speaker beeps. I've also tried two different PSUs, a Seasonic X650 gold and a NZXT HALE90-850-M. I've also tried unplugging all peripherals, and also taking out all connectors except for the speaker and power switch cable. I've even tried taking out the video card, still I see the infinite reboot cycle with no speakers beeps.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Suspect the your MB still has an earlier BIOS version. You will need a supported CPU to flash the BIOS.
Trust that you know someone that has a supported CPU or that your retailer that you bought it from will assist you.

X79MA-GD45 BSODs, errors after flashing BIOS

Hi guys, I have an MSI X79MA-GD45, together with a 3930k CPU, Kingston Hyperx 4 x 4 GB RAM, a Seasonic X-660 PSU (660W), and for now the old GeForce 880GTS 512 [Waiting for Kepler ;p]. One old seagate 160GB drive and two WD drives one is a 250GB and the other the greenpower 2tb. Figured i'd keep them for now since i recently upgraded. Anyway the issues that i'm having looks like this: after i flash the BIOS to ANY version from the MSI site - i suddenly lose windows bootability with a BSOD - ok i figured as much So I tried to reinstall the system and i was getting a lot of issues telling me that the installer couldn't copy the files etc. These errors go up to 1.5 and happen all the time on installs - i tried disabling almost every feature i could think of in the bios settings. For now 1.0 version (the one that shipped works without any install hitches and the system runs fine). I just to update since there's some new microcodes for these cpus and i seem to lose the Enhanced Turbo Boost with 1.0 :( One thing that I realized after i found this forum is that the M-Flash module could cause these issues? But i reverted back with it a few times to 1.0 and it's not happening. Anyway thanks in advance for any tips - I'd like to update - if it was possible to avoid those install issues Cheers

Well i've checked that article. Nothing new there to be honest, i don't use indexing in fact i have search uninstalled, i don't need it. I don't have any activity on this disks from regular reads if i'm loading files. Really a weird thing Well the whole systems runs very well and stable so i won't complain, but it would be nice to have this feature which i thought was quite basic...

X79A-GD45 USB 3.0 problem

This is a new build and I am trying to add and activate new pieces of hardware. This issue is related to usb 3.0 support.
I have The Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual-Slot Reader. When I plug it into USB2 socket I am getting the usual 'this device could perform faster...' message. The reader works just fine.
If I plug it into one of blue USB 3.0 ports on the back all I see is a dance of device connecting/disconnecting/connecting again. The message windows pop up, on the device manager I see the drives appearing and disappearing every second or so, I have to pull the USB plug to stop it. Front ports behave exactly the same way (Antec Solo II case, with proper USB 3 blue headers).
If I disable UEFI support for 3.0 then the blue ports work ( as 2.0 I presume ).
I have the current Renesas drivers installed.
I have the latest firmware for the Lexar reader installed as well (via USB 2.0 port, with no problems).
The only other USB device are the mouse and a keyboard.
So the questions I have are the following:
- any suggestions, am I doing anything wrong?
- the motherboard has one internal USB 3.0 port and one external USB 3.0 port, yet there are two blue sockets on the back and the case header leads to two blue sockets up front. Why?

My case front only has one USB 3.0 port when it's cable is connected to the mainboard's USB 3.0 header. I guess your case connection cable splits it to two ports.

X79a-GD45 USB 3.0

Having some problem with the onboard usb3.0 with mediasonic proraid box. I have the udpated driver installed but once I connect the box windows said fail to install the drive. connecting with usb2.0 in the same mobo and others is totally fine. Any suggestions?
