X800PRO TD256, monitor refresh rate override

I would like to know how to override the monitor refresh rate on x800 like in forceware drivers. Thanks
OK, just installed the Omega drives with multires and it works!

use the window options that allow you to adjust the refresh rate

  • Monitor refresh rates and Open Firmware

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the default monitor refresh rate of an iMac in Open Firmware and how?
    Thanks.

Thanks but I think the iMac G5 does have a refresh rate or something analogous to one, in this case I believe it is 60 hertz. I want to know how to change it in firmware because I believe it will solve an issue my display suffers from. See here:

  • Set permanent monitor refresh rate without xorg.conf

    Hi everyone,
Came back to archlinux, made a clean install with gnome 3. Found out that my GDM and Gnome monitor refresh rate is wrong. For GDM I solved it by adding   xrandr -s 1024x768 -r 85 to the gdm init script. Maybe it's ugly, but at least working. I've got no xorg.conf and I don't want to create it only because of this problem. Using GUI screen settings in System preferences I managed only to set permanently correct resolution (1024x768) but the refresh rate cannot be changed there, so every time I boot now I have correct resolution and refresh rate for GDM, but after login I have 1024x768@60 only, so I have to manually issue   'xrandr -r 85' every time I login. Can I fix it without creating xorg.conf file under /etc/X11? What I already tried was creating the config file under  /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/  and set proper resolution and refresh rate there, but it didn't help. If someone has advice or idea, i will be very grateful. Thanks a lot in advance.

I think you need to specify the values from the manufacturer's website.
    Here's my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    VendorName "DELL"
    ModelName "U2311H"
    HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0
    VertRefresh 56.0 - 76.0
    Option "DPMS"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nouveau"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
I probably don't need to specify "Driver" with open-source drivers, but it's easier to just replace it with "nvidia", since I sometimes switch to the proprietary ones.

  • External Monitor refresh rate conflict

I've got the PB 12" and for a longtime have been using a 17" Soyo monitor with the computer closed and Bluetooth devices. It's a great setup. Now one time disconnected it to take the powerbook, and now I can't run it with just the 17" monitor. I don't want two screens, and I don't want a 12" screen. However, every time I now try to close and wake up the computer, it says the there is a problem with the resolution and the refresh rate, it says it's "Out of Range". Now I figure it's because the computer is trying to send signals to my external monitor just like it was my Powerbook, but my screen can't show them because it has different specs than the powerbook monitor. Please help, if you need more information, please ask.

you have a CRT projector? If it is a 16:9 projector it doesn't really matter if the refresh rate is at 75 or 85 hz.
I know the x200 can do at least 75 hz at 720p, not sure if it can do any higher.

  • Changing default monitor refresh rate

    Hello-
I have just installed x86 Solaris8 on my system at home. I have a TNT2 Ultra card and I am using the default Nvidia TNT2 drivers included with the install on a Hitachi Superscan Monitor. I am capable of displaying the Solaris CDE at 1600x1200 but I have display issuesthat force me to reset my vertical and horizontal positioning every time I turn on the monitor or ever time the screen resolution changes.
This problem has existed ever since I got my videocard back whenI still had Win98 on the machine. The only way to correct it was to set the default refresh rate for all resolutions to 60Hz.
Is it possible to do this in Solaris8 and how?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Daniel J. Noah

stop the dtlogin, login on the text console, and run kdmconfig.
In kdmconfig, choose the video card menu entry, don't make changes
to the video card but use on of the multifrequency monitor entries.
For example, the multifrequency monitor entry upto 110kHz should give
~85 Hz refresh rate at 1600x1200, use one of lower freq. entries to
    tune down the refresh rate...

  • 27" iMac Monitor "refresh rate"

    Hello!
I'm considering buying a 27" iMac but there's 1 more thing that I need to know before doing so.
Before you go ahead and tell me that refresh rates on a CRT and LCD monitor are not the same: I'm aware of that. LCD screens still have a similar thing, though, refreshing the entire image. Let's call it fps as I've no clue to what it's actually called.
Since it'll be used, mostly, for FPS games I want a screen who's able to pull off at least 100fps (like 100Hz in the old days) at various lower resolutions. Do you know if the iMac's screen able to do this, and if you do, do you know the various rates for different resolutions?
    Nicolai

Is it less than two weeks old?  Check if your store has a replacement policy?
Is it less than a year old?  Check with the local authorized service centers if you feel you have done nothing that could have possibly damaged the machine, as this would be a hardware issue.
Is it under AppleCare?  Same thing.
If it isn't expect to pay more than just adding an external display.  If you are in the U.S. http://www.dttservice.com/ is a good company to check out for under non-AppleCare replacement costs.   Mid-2011 should still be under AppleCare unless you bought it really early on.   May 3rd was when it came out in the stores, so you probably are still under the 1 year coverage, but better hurry, unless you registered it with Apple early.   At minimum buy AppleCare so you are covered for an additional 2 years if you haven't already, since it is showing signs of possible wear not normal to be seen.

  • Get monitor refresh rate

    Hello.
So, is there a way to get this parameter from flash somehow? The Capabilities class can't do it.
I'm using the latest Flex SDK and the new Molehill API for FP11, if that matters.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
There is a screen object in AS3 but only in Air runtime:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/display/Screen.html
but it *does not* provide access to refresh rate is it is nearly 60FPS on modern LCD I think, this is noted in Adobe's docs:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/display/Stage.html#frameRa te
That doc provides some hints from Adobe on optimizing performance/memory in Flash applications:

  • Refresh rate settings

I got a monitor 20.1" Samsung SyncMaster 204b, which blinks on and off when using 1600x1200 60Hz resolution.
After extensive search I found information that setting the refresh rate to 56Hz would help, but unfortunately that option is grayed out in OSX 10.4.9. I downloaded SwitchResX program and modified the refresh rate via that and it worked! Now the problem is that the SwitchResX is about $15-20USD and to me it feels kind of silly to pay money for grayed out option that I should be able to use.
How can I enable this option and use OSX regular way to set my monitor refresh rate to 56Hz?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Here is the specs for the Mac Mini I have: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macmini/stats/mac_mini_g41.5.html
Well, unfortunately mine does not work unless the refresh rate is set to 56Hz. I searched internet quite a lot and it seems that Samsung SyncMaster 204B (or at least some models) does have this problem. I have two of these monitors for my company, as they were cheap and work well with my laptops. Now when I tried both of them on my Mac Mini the problems appeared.
Back to the original question, how can I force my OSX to use 56Hz instead of the manufacturer default setting? The option is grayed out for some reason and with the application mentioned in first post I was able to change that. That application costs money and it feels kind of silly to pay for grayed out refresh rate option.

  • Second monitor has a 50Hz refresh rate; my mac's lowest output is 60. What can I do?

I'm trying to get my 13" Late-2011 macbook pro to work with either of two second monitors so I can use logic more easily. One's a DELL thing with a screen res of 1280x1024 (though does work on some higher res') which I had working yesterday till I accidentally knocked the adaptor the slightest bit and now I can't make the second screen stay on for more than a few seconds whatever settings I try. Usually the monitor is on (ie not in power save mode) but just displaying nothing, and my mac behaves as if the second monitor is there.
The other one's a Toshiba 20WLT56B Tv with VGA input. The prob with this one is that it's refresh rate is 50Hz and the lowest option I have for my mac is 60Hz. Is there any way to allow me to output at 50Hz instead?
    Cheers

The weird value rates are fault of the nvidia driver telling jokes.
But how can i have more refresh rate in 1280x1024 than 1280x960? My monitor is a standard 4:3 crt.
I tried disabling EDIDs and specifying the sync values according to the monitor.
The monitor is a samsung syncmaster 700p.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I see you have a nvidia card. For nvidia users xrandr displays wrong value. If you want to check exactly what you're running, search some of the monitor options, it should have it in there. Also use the nvidia-settings, but for me at times it too reported wrong refresh rates.

  • OS 10.3.9 defaults to a refresh rate that is too high for my monitor.

    Hello experts!
I bought a great little NOVA 15" LCD VGA monitor which I love since it has a TV tuner built-in. It is capable of 1024 * 768 @ 56 to 75 Hz. Unfortunately, from start-up Panther uses a default of 85 Hz whenever this monitor is the only one attached, and nothing gets displayed.
I can leave the Mac on and swap VGA out to my old Apple 15" Multi-scan and the desktop is there. Now that I can see what I'm doing, I can change the refresh rate from 85 Hz to 75 or 70 or 60 Hz. Still leaving the Mac on and switching the VGA output back to the NOVA LCD results in a normally displayed picture at any of the 3 lower refresh rates. But if I open Display Preferences and press the Detect Displays button, the desktop disappears and the NOVA monitor indicates "no signal." As you may have guessed, Panther is trying to give it 85 Hz again.
The monitor is DDC 1/2b compatible, and the ATI 9200 is DDC 2a/b compatible, so they should be sending the right info to each-other.
What I would like is for someone to tell me how to make the Finder change the Monitor settings to 1024 * 768 @ 70 Hz in a way that can be assigned to a Function key (say F5). That way, when the Mac has finished starting-up, I can just press F5, and even though the screen is blank the Finder will run a little program to change the monitor settings and, voila, I will have a working display.
I have looked into Apple Script, but it seems to have no control over this sort of function (unless I have missed something).
Many thanks in advance, and Happy New Year!

The router is much, much newer than the computer, perhaps some characteristic of the WiFi network as it's currently setup is preventing the computer from connecting.
Try to go back to the basics: set your WiFi network to "b" mode only (i.e., turn off "g") and termporarily remove the password from it. See if the computer will at least establish a connection at that point. Then start turning on one thing at a time ("g" mode, then security, etc).
Not sure what format your WEP key is, but if it's not 10 characters (the minimum for the standard, which constitutes a 64-bit key), you can try making it that long. If it's 13 or 26 characters, it might be a higher encryption than the computer can support.
If all else fails, you could try looking on ebay/craigslist for a copy of Tiger to install on the iMac, which would have software support for more WiFi encryption schemes. Also, it would provide software support for USB WiFi adapters that would also be able to connect to more modern networks.

  • Cannot fix Refresh rate on monitor

    Hi Everyone
I used to have the choice of fixing the refresh rate on my Monitor in the
Nvidia settings window, but it is not available anymore, must come with the
Nvidia drivers package but not in the one I have now.
I was able to fix the rate at 85Hz in any game.
    I am using a MSI FX5900XT    driver version   7.1.8.9
    on windows XP PRO
any help would be gratefully appreciated
    cheers

Thankyou Frankenputer, that worked fine the overides section is back, I cannot believe that it has been dropped by Nvidia. The whole idea of good graphic cards, fast processors, etc is to show the best quality image on the screen in front of you. When I load Call of Duty to play online the Monitor reverts to 60Hz so all the money you spend on your fast components are wasted because you have a low quality picture.
I am sure people out there think that because you set the refresh rate at 85Hz in the Nvidia settings on the desktop it remains on that setting when loading and using all there software. I know my computer will not do it so I am sure everyone will be the same.  End of Rant.
Once again thanks for your help Frankenputer and Deathstalker

  • Suggested Resolution & Refresh Rate for 19-inch Monitor

Just had to replace my old 17-inch Apple Graphite Display. I stayed with a CRT and found a new 19-inch Dell M993s for pretty cheap.
Now I'm trying to decide what the best screen resolution and refresh rate is...
The HTML files that came on the Dell CD-ROM give recommended optimal settings for Windows OS's. But I'm not sure I should go by those for Tiger.
    Any suggestions?

Just to make it completely clear
You need to have the screen refresh rate set above 75hz so that screen refresh is less visible, the lower the number the slower the refresh rate and therefore the more visible it is and the more strain on the eye. The higher the refresh rate the better.
Find the resolution which gives you 85hz or higher and which also makes best use of screen without making everything really small and hard to see or to read.
    I have a 19" Lacie and have it set to 1280 x 1024 85hz refresh rate.
