XA490AA Headset Microphone Not Working

OP system; windows 7 - 64 bit.
So i purchased a XA490AA in August this year, the sound quality is perfect and I am very pleased with the purchase however....
When first setting up my headset for the first time I remember using my microphone on skype with no issues, now I come to use it and nothing. I get a low volume muffle (seems to sound like an internal microphone e.g computer noises), no sound from the microphone on the headset is being recorded.
This headset/speakers and microphone is listed in the device manger, troubleshooting found no problems.
No driver updates needed either.
I had a snoop around the properties to make sure nothing was muted and still nothing.
I have unistalled the device and re-installed it yet the problem still remains.
I have even updated my computer to its optimal updates, still the error remains.
Just need help to get it working once more! Help is extremely appriciated!

Under windows default playback deviced do you have the microphone set to default device under recording and also make sure on the headphone cable that the microphone isn't muted?
Hopefully the microphone didn't go bad on you.

Sound Blaster Arena Gaming Headset: Microphone not working. Please help.

I am using Vista. I have used Creative Software AutoUpdate and all my drivers are up to date.
So I had the set for about month before tonight I plugged the detachable microphone into it. Its as if it doesn't exist. When I go to sound/recording It shows: Headset/SB Arena Headset/Working. It is set as default. But it doesn't specifically say microphone. Just the headset stuff. The line volume is at 00. But when I talk into it... Nothing.
A look at the Arena FAQs turned up this:
"Are there any indications that the microphone is working?
You should see an orange circle light at the Inline controls. If this orange light blinks, it indicates that the microphone is switched off."
Google searched for Inline controls and I'm still not sure what they are. I've never used a gaming headset before so the trick to this could be overly simple and I'm just not seeing it. Its really starting to tick me off though. Did I just get a brick set and now its to late to return?
I even tried uninstalling my mobo audio drivers. That didn't do anything. Tried using windows audio recorder. Nothing.
Please help me.

Headset microphone not working (Steelseries 7H) on Windows 7 under bootcamp

Yesterday I bought the steelseries 7H gaming headset (no USB external soundcar included) to game in hardcore pro korean mode on my mac once in a while, but when I try to connect it to windows 7 (why would I? Skyrim!), I get no input from the microphone! The headphones do work, but the mic doesn't. I have a 2010 15" i5 macbook pro. I have reinstalled all the cirrus and realtek drivers, and nothing. I have a webcam with ?a built in microphone (Ps3 eye). ?It is connected by USB. ?The drivers are the CL-Eye drivers; a third party driver set since Sony does not directly support the eye for PC.
in the windows audio device management, the microphone appears as normal and is set as the default device. ?I can use the windows sound recorder to record me speaking just fine. ?However if I use any other applications it doesn't seem to work at all. ?I can select the device as the default recording device in Starcraft 2 as well as Teamspeak 3 but no sound is detected. ?The USB microphone does not show up as a selectable device in recording options in my Creative Control Panel. ?Disabling the default creative microphone does nothing.
I think the problem is in that windows can directly detect the microphone and so software that uses the windows audio device manager works fine, but anything that talks directly with my sound card software does not properly detect the microphone. ?Basically, I can select the device as a default device but it does not work.
Any thoughts on this or am I SOL and have to find myself a shiny new headset?

I had the same problem. You need to check the device index of your USB mic.
In my case. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.6 system. I had four devices cataloged. With the last one being the USB mic.
Then set like so in your AS code audioPub.microphoneManager.micIndex = 3;
Remember, that the indexing is 0 based.
The sound framework make the assumption that the index is 0.

Sighhhh, wasted so much time yesterday and today going around Sony centre and then carphone warehouse. They told me to come back after Easter.
I came home, banged the phone against the wall and it worked.
Turned out that mic was working on loud speaker and when using headphones so I thought that the secondary mic is working and the main one (placed with the speakers) isn't. So I banged that part against the wall slightly (in plastic case to prevent scratches) then put the phone underwater, waited for it to dry and now it's working. Idk how well and if it's of perfect quality again but people can hear me well.

Internal Webcam and Microphone not working after Screen Fix

I own a HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook, and last week I tried to use the webcam and the microphone for the first time in a few months.
However I was shocked to find that Skype kept saying that the webcam was not detected. The microphone also could not register any sound.
Device Manager did not show any imaging devices or the webcamera, even after setting it to view non-present devices.
A check using msinfo32 did not review the webcamera either, and there were no problem devices.
Control Panel >> Sound showed that the Internal Microphone using IDT High Definition Audio Codec was enabled and working, however it could not detect any sound. All drivers are checked to be up-to-date.
I suspect this has something to do with the screen repair last month which a HP on-site technician came down to replace my screen, although I cannot be 100% sure. Although the screen is now working, the technician did not do a good job reassembling the screen - the bottom left corner of the screen cover has not be able to attach properly to the screen.
I have gone through my BIOS setup to make sure that there is no webcam disabled.
I have tried rolling-back and reinstalling the drivers for the microphone but it did not work.
I have tried uninstalling CyberLink YouCam (laptop preinstalled webcam software).
Please help, these two components are very important to me as I am going overseas soon. The laptop is still under warranty.

For troubleshooting your Webcam, I would suggest taking a look at the document Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7). I would suggest the two options Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, ect.), and Webcam is not listed in Device Manager.
For your internal microphone not working either, please take a look at the document Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 7). From this document, I would suggest following the top two symptoms.
Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.

Headset does not work after latest update...

It is very "strange" that since the latest system update on my Z3 compact my headset is not working at all. I use my all time favourite iphone 4 headset. It worked flawlessly before the update but now if I plug it in, the phone is not recognizing it at all and the walkman still plays on the phone speakers. Before the update I could listen to music, use it for making calls and so on. Since the update, nothing is working. My headset is working fibe by the way, so it is not a hardware fault. Works like a charm with other phones, and on the top of that if I use the app Soundabout the music works with the headset but the calls are still not using my headset. Do not tell me to use the sony headset which was in the package because I hate it. Has poor audio quality, falling out of my ears constantly and the cable is everything but not flexible. So it is a shame that I need to use an app to get my headset work on my new phone...

I understand you don't want to use the bundled headset, however for troubleshooting purposes can you please test it and let us know if it works.

ValentinT, welcome to the forum.
There are no drivers available for Windows 8. I suggest checking in the Control Panel/Sound/Recording to assure that your microphone is selected. It seems that the Sound is one area that gets changed when updating to Win 8.1. At least, this is what happened to me.

Microphone works fine with Quictime on another mac, so I do know how to use it. The one where it is not working (A) had an external microphone and camera attached earlier, and indeed it does work with that external microphone, but not with the internal microphone selected; and (B) had RealPlayer installed previously.
Any suggestions, please?

Download Audio driver from here.
Intructions how to install it in Vista/Win7.
Extract this driver with Winrar.
Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted .......\V64 for 64-bit Vista/Win7. Click OK.
Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries.
Click Next, and you're done.
I'm not sure which one from the list will work for You.
This drivers weren't test. So if You will try them and it will work for You let us now about.

Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB. I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

Reset ( No Data will be Lost )

Palm Pre Headset Functions Not Working after 1.3.1

Anybody else lose the functionality in their headset (pause, skip to next song) after installing 1.3.1?

I too have this headset issue on my Pre.
I have webOSDoctored my Pre back to 1.2.1, and yet the headset still doesnt work on voice calls.
I tested the ##8378# choosing manual test on audio then phone, and this does work. I can hear out of the headset just fine.
This stricks me as odd since testing the audio works but voice calls donot...
I then re-updated to 1.3.1 hoping somthing would magicly work for me again, but nothing. The headset still not working on voice calls.
My last resort is to either get some more ideas on this forum or use my Sprint insurance and get a new Pre... which ever comes first.

Since it is only the headset that is the problem and not the iPhone it would be better to just buy a new set and not let yourself be frustrated over it. If you send anything to your sister before the one-year warranty is over, include the headset so she can exchange it at an Apple store.

Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
There might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there.

somebody please help. why is my microphone not working? i have replaced the charging port connector, and people cant hear me still. and my wifi ,even though its on, it still unable to search for conections even after i have repladed the wifi antenna. what can this be or what parts must i change out inorder to work.

i appreciate for the response, ummm, ill check the ring on the shield(is it the shield on theupper left side of the iphone 4 that protects all the ribbons?) and actually is backwards with the speake. i have two scenarios. on one iphone4, people can hear me, but when i put it on speaker p hone, they can't hear me. the other iPhone 4, people cant heare either in speaker mode or regular call. i have replaced.the speaker box, i have replaced.the mic/cable connector as well and nothing on either cases. for sure.there is no water damage. what can ot be?
