XApp Analytics in BI 7.0

Dear all,
I am trying to implement xApp Analytics in BI 7.0. After I installed the analytics 1.1, I find the problem is most sources system is from BI content 3.5 so some of queries are missing in BI content 7.0. (I thought BI content 7.0 would have everything from 3.5)
I just wonder have anyone also came across the same problem and how do you fix that?
I am trying to implement the best practices preconfigured scenarios for Portal and analytics but I find the problem is they created in 3.X verison so it is not very useful in 7.0. I wonder what is the quickest way to implement KPI and dashboard? Thanks.

Hi!
Are you trying it via the Visual COmposer 7.0?

• XApp Analytics SCM: error in BEx query definition

I'm configuring the SAP xApp Analytics for SCM. The BEx query Warehouse Stock Analytics – Inventory Turnover (0IC_C03_Q0024) is used in this application. It fetches data from the material movement BI InfoCube (0IC_C03).
Apparently there's an error in this query's definition. When I run it I get the following error message:
Variable 0CYEAR-1 is incorrectly defined (Message no. BRAIN284):
Variable 0CYEAR-1 has the processing type "Manual Input/Default Value". However, it is not input ready, and no default value has been specified.
Does anyone knows how either this query or this variable is supposed to work?
Thanks, Davide

A fix for this issue has been given in the thread Warehouse Stock Analytics u0096 Inventory Turnover, on the Business Content forum for BI.

• How xapp Analytics is different from CRM analytics and sem

Hi,
I need some information on how the xapp analytics is differnet from CRM analytics. Is this an upgrade functionality or it is atotaly a different Analytics aplication. If it is a new process need some brief info on this.
Thanks
Naveen

Hi Naveen,
Yes, they are totally different.
CRM Analytics is CRM specific, and built in CRM and BI (RFM, CLTV, Data Mining, etc).
SAP xApp Analytics are applications (iViews) built with the Visual Composer (i.e. in the SAP NetWeaver Portal). They are composite applications that can source data from many places, and cover both horizontals and verticals (ie. in the first release of SAP xApp Analytics, there were 110 applications, of which 8 were based on CRM data).
Perhaps, the easiest way to think about it:
- BI Content is the pre-delivered industry and application specific content for SAP NetWeaver BI.
- SAP xApp Analytics is the pre-delivered industry and application specific content for SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer.
Check out the Analytics and Visual Composer pages on SDN for more info.
Hope this helps.

• Replacement for xApp FIN INVESTM APPROVAL 1.1 - xApp Analytics

Hello All,
We were looking for xApp analytics module "XAPP FIN INVESTM APPROVAL 1.1" for Capital appropriation reports.
Came to know from PAM that SAP's support for this module is ended by May 2009. Also, from Service Market Place > Downloads -> Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group" Composite Applications" - ANALYTIC BLUEPRINTS FROM SAP). Note at end of page states: "SAP xApps Analytics will not be maintained or supported by SAP, nor will SAP provide new versions and/or releases of such SAP xApps Analytics."
May I know is this functionality included in any other product?

• Value of xApp Analytics Blueprints?

Hi--
I am creating some materials that present the value of using the xApp Analytics Blueprints vs. building analytic applications from scratch using the Visual Composer tool.
2 questions:
1) What does the term "blueprint" mean to you?
2) If we were to define, "blueprint" as the analytic models that have been delivered as part SAP xApp Analytics Release 1.1 which may be customized to suit an organization's business processes, what value do these blueprints provide?
Would love to see thoughts...
Monali

Hi Monali,
Blueprinting to me means capturing the requirements for the analytic and delivering a high level action plan during the design phase. As part of this effort, the following items may be considered:
1) Business process being supported
2) Business decisions that can be taken based on analytic
3) Understanding of where data would come from to support analytic
4) User interface
5) Expected benefit and effort to build the analytic
Certainly, if a standard analytic can be leveraged, it would be a great time saver. However, it would not really be appropriate to limit the requirements to just where a delivered analytic exists.
To me, the power of using a delivered analytic (or as a template for another application), is as follows:
1) User interface is pretty consistent between analytics
2) Easy to populate, which makes it easier to engage business people in discussions if you can provide a show and tell
3) Easy to enhance existing analytic
The realty is that analytics is different than reporting because it is more process oriented. It may take some time and examples to change the mind set of the people that could really benefit from these types of applications.

• Where to find xApps Analytics information and documentation?

Dear experts,
I am new with xApps Analytics and Visual Composer.
I've searched the forum and found out that Visual Composer is the tool to develop Analytics and that SAP delivered many Analytics already.
However, I can't find information about Analytics by the link [http://www.sap.com/analytics|http://www.sap.com/analytics] or any other links in the SAP website.
Can anyone tell me where the Analytics information is in the SAP website?
Also, where can I get the latest Analytics SAP delivered and documentations?

• XApps Analytics 1.1 Ramp Up Question about Systems

Hi,
have installed xApps Analytics 1.1 Ramp Up version of VC ok and got some basic models working against the standard SAP_BW system which was already configured with NW2004s for single sign on with BW.
I have added two new systems in the portal (one JDBC and one SAP R/3) under Systems in System Configuration. These test fine from within the portal.
However, within VC when I got to Find Data I still only have one system (SAP_BW) in the drop down.
Any ideas? Have stopped and started with no effect.
Many thanks,
AB

Yep. Tried everything within my repertoire now!
I further thing - I have setup user mapping user admin, user via user j2ee_admin.
I am logging on as a VC user with the VC Role.
Could this be anything to do with it?

• SEM-BPS vs myFinancial (business Analytics)

hello
I have read in a book that the planing functions are distributed. e.g. balance planing is in SEM-BPS and the profit planning is in Financial Analytics (business Analytics).
So where I can find a overview? or can somebody write me this.
And I want to ask. If we have Netweaver 4 (included BPS) can we planning balance or can we palnning profit?
Please tell me why.
I hope somebody can help me. I'm very confused.
thanks

I can also only guess, but the xApps Analytics focus is "Analytics", while many Business Packages are more on the transactional side. So I guess we will still se both in the future.

• What is Analytics? We say, you say...

This is a comment that many customers, potential clients and SAP Partners are asking. It's a fair question because each SAP product release comes with a whole set of acronyms, slang, lingo, mini-language that is often confusing to new users.
Take Business Intelligence (BI). Any software vendor who provides a reporting tool will say that they now also have BI. But is this really true? Does slapping a user friendly front end to access a couple of joined relational database tables constitute a BI tool/environment? And is BI defined by the tools and data it accesses? Or is BI really a data universe that was thoughtfully created with astuteness, wisdom and good judgment of the business processes being supported by the BI data universe.
So back to the title: What is Analytics and who has the most simple concise, easy to understand definition?
Potential users are asking for a "walk thru" of how an Analytics solution is built using xAPP Analytics and Business Intelligence of SAP. Jaded BI users are sending SAP messages showing immediate disdain for the touted simplicity of Visual Composer's ability to seamlessly bring any kind of data into the Analytics data space. IT users are right to be skeptical. They have to actually implement a real world solution that will impress their executives and keep it inexpensive (relatively). The information landscape is increasing in complexity at an exponential rate. Global corporations are using the SAP ERP and NetWeaver umbrella to encapsulate in transactional and operational data from newly acquired companies and plants. All corporations want to harmonize the disparate islands of transactions and islands of information that have yet to be globally joined.
We say, you say. What do YOU SAY about Analytics? We’d like to hear from you.

BI always been about enabling analysis and reporting. When business users look at a BI report, they slice it and dice it, use it to analyze the business. And BI has always been utilized to analyze business processes, including accessing data in operational systems to do just that.
So, what is analytics? An aspect of BI, in reality. Marekting may tell you someting different. Of course SAP's BI application has the ability to readily utilize any kind of data in the analysis capabilities delviered.
Agreed, BI is a universe, that is not defined by the tool utilized nor the data that is accessed. So why does it seem that there seems to be some delineation which apparently is based on which tool is being utilized?
Originally, the differentiator between the new "analytics" and BI, was that analytical applications provide the "closed loop" scenarios - where you can analyze information, then through the application, initiate action in an operational system in an automated manner. That aspect of analytics has kind of "disappeared", as the difficulty of actually implementing that type of functionality has been shown to be extremely difficult.
Certainly, SAP's BI solution has extensive abilities to "to harmonize the disparate islands of transactions and islands of information that have yet to be globally joined". Features such as UDI, DBconnect, remote query scenarios, VirtualProvider make this concept not only possible, but are already utilized heavily by SAP customers.
What is the difference between BI from SAP and analytics? Well, one is that the applications are developed by different groups with very little collaboration. BI is mainly developed in Walldorf, analytics is mainly developed in Israel.
One difference (in the tools, not the concepts) is that the BI application features only limited abilities to integrate non-SAP data at the front-end (the Web Analyzer in BI in SAP NetWeaver 2004s has this feature, for example), while SAP Analyics has extensive functionality for this purpose. With SAP analytics, users can model data integration scenarios from multiple applications on the front-end, while typically with the BI application this modeling is done on the back-end (and then the data can be used on the front-end). However, surely back-end modeling vs. front-end modeling is not a differentiator between BI and analytics.
When thinking about the concepts however, analytics is just one aspect of BI, despite the somewhat arbitrary attempts to differentiate them, mainly based on differences in tools and in marketing messaging.

• Revenue Recognition Analytic xApp misses standard BAPIs / Services

We have an opportunity to develop a SAP xApp Analytics for Revenue Recognition. This xApp is especially interesting for companies in the High tech, Software industry. One of the problems we are facing is that some of the BAPIs which connect to the ERP system are not in the SAP standard offering. Does anyone have experience or developed BAPIs / Services in the following area:
Name: REVREC_01
Functional Description: BAPI enable transaction VF45 (rather than BAPI enable direct table read) - In this way we maintain the same KPI presentation logic as in ERP.
Inputs: As for VF45 input, but Sales Doc must not be mandatory entry. Additional Input fields required such as Sales Org, Product Category, Material (All mutiple values) - Sold To Party must also be mutiple value input.
Outputs: As for VF45 Control Lines output and Revenues and Billing Docs (by Period) Output. In addition for both outputs we would require output by Sales Org, Product Category, Material and Employee Responsible. Also require additional KPIs in the Control Lines such as Revenue Recognised MTD and Rev to be Recognised MTD.
Name: REVREC_02
Functional Description: BAPI enable transaction VF44 (rather than BAPI enable direct table read) - In this way we maintain the same KPI presentation logic as in ERP.
Inputs: As for VF44 input. Additional Input fields required such as Sales Org, Product Category, Material.
Outputs: As for VF44 Output. In addition for both outputs we would require output by Sales Org, Product Category, Material and Employee Responsible.

• Installing Analytics 1.0 Composites

HI All:
I am looking for instructions to install/load Analytics 1.0 Composites. I have already installed Viscual Composer 6.0. I aslo have the composites. However, I wasn't able to find any instructions on the actual install.
Imran

Hi,
SAP xApp Analytics v1.1 is currently in ramp up. Version 1.0 was previously available only as part of a pilot (prior to the official ramp up).
SAP xApp Analytics v1.1 uses VC 7.0 (ie. EP 7.0 / NW2004s). However, it is possible to install a standalone NW2004s system, where the Visual Composer and Analytics are used for development purposes only. You can then transport the iView (technically, transport the PAR) out to your EP 6.0 system and run it on there. Therefore, the separate NW2004s box can be sized very small, and this way, you do not have to upgrade your productive EP 6.0 system straight away to use Analytics (we have many customers on the ramp up already using this scenario).
If you may be interested in joining the ramp up, please send me an email.
Thanks & Regards,

• OEE Analytics

Hi Experts,
I am new to the xAPPs Analytics. Now i want to Implement OEE analytics by using Visual Composer. I know how to create applications and deploy them. But i have a doubt, Is there any predefined analytics for OEE like Business Content in BW. If yes, How can i get them to my system and how can i open by using my visual composer.
I heard that, OEE has Five Standard analytics, like OEE for Avalablity analysis, OEE for Scape analysis, OEE for Performance analysis, Etc.
Can you please explain me how can i implement this OEE.
Thanks,
Suri.

Hi, Suri.
If the source of the data includes plant systems, this is probably a better application for SAP xMII. If all of the data is in BW, Visual Composer could work.
In my experience, it is rarely or ever the case that all of the required data resides in BW.
Best regards,
Rick
