Xautolock command help [solved]

I am running Arch with LXDE on desktop. I want the system to shutdown (poweroff) after 30 minutes of inactivity. I was searching for options and found following on pm-utils page of the wiki ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils ):
Suspend on idle/inactivity:
One method relies on xautolock program. Add following: xautolock -time 30 -locker "sudo pm-suspend" & to ~/.xinitrc. This implies that pm-suspend is called after 30 minutes of inactivity.
I thought I can replace the command "sudo pm-suspend" with "sudo poweroff" but my doubt is will this command not ask for password?
Thanks for your help.

I tried putting the command in /etc/rc.local and in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart file. It does not work from either place.
On checking 'ps -aux | grep xautolock', there is no entry. The other entries of autostart file are seen to be executed. Where could be the error?
The entry in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart file is:
@xautolock -time 3 -locker '/sbin/poweroff' &
and entry in visudo is:
myusername ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown -h now,/sbin/halt,/sbin/poweroff,/sbin/reboot
The command 'sudo poweroff' does not ask for password when typed on terminal.
The command xautolock -time 3 -locker '/sbin/poweroff' also does not work when typed from terminal.

    Hi everybody, I am in Turkey on a long assignment, I need help solving a big problem on my macbook pro os 10.9.3. The other week my wife visited some website and now we have a redirect virus of some sort, and every other time when we click on a link or anywhere on the page we are redirected to this casino web site, https://casino.7bets10.com/tr/?from=hy9yKXD43jSC-8Oxbw4femNd7ZgqdRLk-dHJpeG9uaXR l. Its the same whether on Chrome or Safari. Does anyone have a solution, thank you!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    Paste into the window of another application.
    Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Help Solving: Does not contain a definition for 'Select'.....

    Hi,
    Need help solving a Task that returns a Task<IEnumerable<Writing>> so I can fill ObservableCollection<ViewModels.IWritingItemViewModel> Writings for my
    Design Time Data Page:
    <d:Page.DataContext>
    <designTimeData:MainPageViewModel />
    </d:Page.DataContext>
    My constructor does this:
    public MainPageViewModel()
    var writings = this.GetGroupsAsync();
    this.Writings = new ObservableCollection<ViewModels.IWritingItemViewModel>();
    var viewmodels = writings.Select((x, i) => new WritingItemViewModel
    Writing = x,
    VariableItemSize = (i == 0) ? Common.VariableItemSizes.Writings : Common.VariableItemSizes.Normal,
    My var writings = this.GetGroupsAsync(); is:
    public async Task<IEnumerable<Writing>> GetGroupsAsync()
    await this.GetMenuDataAsync();
    return this.Groups;
    which in turn gets data from:
    private async Task GetMenuDataAsync()
    Uri dataUri = new Uri("ms-appx:///DesignTimeData/MenuData.json");
    StorageFile file = await StorageFile.GetFileFromApplicationUriAsync(dataUri);
    string jsonText = await FileIO.ReadTextAsync(file);
    JsonObject jsonObject = JsonObject.Parse(jsonText);
    JsonArray jsonArray = jsonObject["Groups"].GetArray();
    foreach (JsonValue groupValue in jsonArray)
    JsonObject groupObject = groupValue.GetObject();
    Writing group = new Writing(
    groupObject["UniqueId"].GetString(),
    groupObject["IsHeaderInteractive"].GetBoolean(),
    groupObject["ViewType"].GetString(),
    groupObject["ModelType"].GetString(),
    groupObject["Page"].GetString(),
    groupObject["Title"].GetString(),
    groupObject["Subtitle"].GetString(),
    groupObject["ImagePath"].GetString(),
    groupObject["Description"].GetString(),
    groupObject["GroupId"].GetString()
    foreach (JsonValue itemValue in groupObject["WritingMenus"].GetArray())
    JsonObject itemObject = itemValue.GetObject();
    group.WritingMenus.Add(new WritingMenu(
    itemObject["UniqueId"].GetString(),
    itemObject["Page"].GetString(),
    itemObject["Title"].GetString(),
    itemObject["Subtitle"].GetString(),
    itemObject["ImagePath"].GetString(),
    itemObject["Description"].GetString(),
    itemObject["Content"].GetString(),
    itemObject["WritingsId"].GetString(),
    itemObject["GroupId"].GetString(),
    Convert.ToInt32(itemObject["Item"].ValueType)
    this.Groups.Add(group);
    and I get this Error:
    Error 5 'System.Threading.Tasks.Task<System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<App1.DesignTimeData.Writing>>'
    does not contain a definition for 'Select' and no extension method 'Select' accepting a first argument of type
    'System.Threading.Tasks.Task<System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<App1.DesignTimeData.Writing>>'
    could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
    I'm creating collections of:
    public interface IWritingItemViewModel : Common.IVariableSizedItem
    Models.Writing Writing { get; set; }
    and my class for creating data is:
    public class Writing
    public Writing(
    string uniqueId,
    bool isHeaderInteractive,
    string templateType,
    string viewModelType,
    string page,
    string title,
    string subtitle,
    string imagePath,
    string description,
    string groupId
    this.UniqueId = uniqueId;
    this.IsHeaderInteractive = isHeaderInteractive;
    this.TemplateType = templateType;
    this.ViewModelType = viewModelType;
    this.Page = page;
    this.Title = title;
    this.Subtitle = subtitle;
    this.ImagePath = imagePath;
    this.Description = description;
    this.GroupId = groupId;
    this.WritingMenus = new ObservableCollection<WritingMenu>();
    public string UniqueId { get; private set; }
    public bool IsHeaderInteractive { get; private set; }
    public string TemplateType { get; private set; }
    public string ViewModelType { get; private set; }
    public string Page { get; private set; }
    public string Title { get; private set; }
    public string Subtitle { get; private set; }
    public string ImagePath { get; private set; }
    public string Description { get; private set; }
    public string GroupId { get; private set; }
    public virtual ObservableCollection<WritingMenu> WritingMenus { get; private set; }
    How can I solve or successfully complete this code?
    Thanks!...
    Code is like a box of chocolates!...

    I looked into your error message again, I found something interesting:
    Error 5
    'System.Threading.Tasks.Task<System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<App1.DesignTimeData.Writing>>'
      does not contain a definition
    for 'Select'
    and no extension method
    'Select' accepting a first argument of type
      'System.Threading.Tasks.Task<System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<App1.DesignTimeData.Writing>>'
      could be found (are you missing a
    using directive or an assembly reference?)
    That means: Task does not contain the definition for Select. This was reasonable, Task does not inherit IEnumerable interface.
    var viewmodels = writings.Select((x, i) => new WritingItemViewModel
    Writing = x,
    VariableItemSize = (i == 0) ? Common.VariableItemSizes.Writings : Common.VariableItemSizes.Normal,
    public async Task<IEnumerable<Writing>> GetGroupsAsync()
    You need get the IEnumerable<Writing> for Select use. See this for more information:

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    When you try to copy data to the external drive, what happens? If you don't see any error, the external drive is formatted in NTFS, and OS X can't write in it.
    To be able to write on this external drive, you have to use an app like Paragon NTFS. Another solution would be to format the external drive in FAT32 or exFAT with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Make sure you copied all the files of the external disk to the internal disk before doing it

    Only one way- to remember it. There is no way around cause it is a new security feature. Better stress your memory.

  • Helpful, solved....

    All right, it's pretty obvious. Clearly the new format is designed to keep posts on topic and more specifically, solution based. Great idea.
    That hinges on the 'question asker' giving feedback (helpful, solved) after people have tried to help. It should end there but it doesn't.
    The 'helper posters' want to know if they've helped, so they check back as well, and in some cases, even ask people to let them know if they were helped or solved.
    It is VERY frustrating to read through posts that are solved (or have useful info in the replies) which remain left alone by the 'question asker'. To add to the frustration, points are attached.
    Does anyone have any insight as to how to encourage people to use 'helpful/solved' rather than 'taking the answer and running' ?

    Crap thought that text was all the characters I was allotted, not just the title.
    Anyway I wouldn't have even posted this if you guys would have allowed me to reply to the already existing thread I found through google. Said about 20 or so people had the same problem and no one found the contributor's answer useful, including myself.
    Anyway, I use Firefox, because it is one of two (other being internet explorer) that Trend Micro's security package includes protection with. Same with spyware blaster which I also use but Trend Micro is the deal breaker. Also I like Firefox 4 and your ad blocker is better than google chrome's. However if I continue to have problems with clearing my browser history it is back to Opera and Google Chrome for me. IObit Security supports both of them, it also seems to be the best security system I have ever come across, I will just pay for their subscription and stop using Trend Micro.
    This is a very big problem I hope it is being addressed. Only addon I have is your ad blocker. Also this is completely on your end, not ours. I am the perfect test, my computer is brand new, and by brand new I mean I just started using it the other day, the same day my firefox browser kept crashing as I attempted to clear my browsing history.
    Windows 7, 8GBs RAM, AMD athlon II quad core 2.90 GHz
    Can't even clear an hours worth of browsing history without firefox crashing.

    If you have hard time understand the simplified help message, you can always google the whole term on internet, there's plenty of resources.
    Also, man is a lot more descriptive in most cases,
    for example,
    man ifconfig
    ifconfig(1M)                                                   ifconfig(1M)
    NAME
          ifconfig - configure network interface parameters
    SYNOPSIS
          ifconfig [-m mod1[,mod2]...] interface [address_family]
               [address[dest_address]] [parameters]
          ifconfig interface [address_family]
    DESCRIPTION
          The first form of the ifconfig command assigns an address to a network
          interface and/or configures network interface parameters.  ifconfig
          must be used at boot time to define the network address of each
          interface present on a machine.  It can also be used at other times to
          redefine an interface's address or other operating parameters.  If the
          address_family is not specified, the address family defaults to IPv4.
          The second form of the command, without address_family, displays the
          current configuration for interface.  If address_family is not
          specified, ifconfig reports the details on all supported address
          families.  An exception is when the user has not configured any
          interface with an IPv6 address, ifconfig does not display the IPv6
          loopback interface.
          Only a user with appropriate privileges can modify the configuration
          of a network interface.  All users can run the second form of the
          command.
        Arguments
          ifconfig recognizes the following arguments:
               -m mod1[,mod2]...
                              A list of modules that can be pushed on a stream
                              associated with an interface.  The -m option can
                              be used to configure an interface manually with
                              the specified module names.  There is no space
                              between the module names and only a comma is used
                              to separate the module names.  If the -m option is
                              specified, ifconfig pushes all modules on the
                              stream associated with the interface in the
                              specified order.  For example, module mod2 is
                              pushed on top of module mod1.  The modules are
                              pushed between IP and network drivers.  If the -m
                              option is not specified, the modules (if any)
                              specified in the DEFAULT_INTERFACE_MODULES
                              variable are used for configuring the interface
                              (see netconf and netconf-ipv6 in
                              /etc/rc.config.d/).
               address        Either a host name present in the host name
                              database (see hosts(4)), or a DARPA Internet
    Hewlett-Packard Company            - 1 -      HP-UX 11i Version 2: Mar 2005
    ifconfig(1M)                                                   ifconfig(1M)
                              address expressed in Internet standard dot
                              notation (see inet(3N)) for an IPv4 address and in
                              colon notation (see inet6(3N)) for an IPv6
                              address.
               address_family Name of protocol on which naming scheme is based.
                              An interface can receive transmissions in
                              differing protocols, each of which may require
                              separate naming schemes.  The address_family,

    fluke 6060B Frequency, Amplitude GPIB commands HELP! The very old and useless scanned copy of the manual showed the GPIB commands: FR230MZ but it NEVER worked, same for amplitude, anyone can send the WORKING vi that can set any number with any significant digits for frequency and amplitude, GREATLY appreciated!

    Please don't shout.  It doesn't help at all to do that.
    When you use the driver, what VI are you using? Do you get any kind of error code back from the VI? What is it if you do? When you send your frequency command, is this with the driver of in MAX? When the frequency command does not execute, have you done an errory query of the instrument? There is a funciton in the driver for that. It would be extremely helpful to know if the instrument replies back with some error message or code. I don't know if it's related to the problem you are seeing but the driver I downloaded needs to be modified to work with newer versions of VISA. The initialize function has an 'Old' VISA Open. This should be replaced with the normal VISA Open on the palette. I modified this and the Getting Started function to be correct and attached them.

    I have the same problem and I haven't solved it yet. On Friday I plugged in my iPad to my work computer after not having done so for quite a while. Today I went onto the work computer and discovered I had not updated iTunes before plugging in the iPad (and which I cannot do without an administrator password). I guess I will update iTunes and try again when I can get the guy to show up with the password. I hope that works. The reset idea does not work on mine.
    Was your iiTunes updated before you tried? Have you found any solution yet? Mail and some internet apps still work but games, notes applications, spreadsheets etc. just begin to open and close immediately.
    If anybody has answers I'd love to get some clues.

    Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it didn't work. Have tried both kinds of restore. First restoring from backup and second as a new device (twice). Still get the same "Accessory not supported" message. Thank goodness I can use the old 30 pin SD reader with the lightning adaptor for my up-coming trip. I tried it again and it worked again. BUT I hate having a piece of Apple equipment that doesn't work.
