XAV-701HD - No phone audio

When my XAV‑701HD receiver is used as a Bluetooth headset, no phone audio comes though any of the car speakers.  Whether I make a phone call or receive a call though the receiver, I cannot hear the other person on the call.  The other person can hear me, but I cannot hear them.
Using the same phone, I am able to play music over Bluetooth through the receiver and the music plays successfully over my car speakers.
The microphone jack is plugged in tight in the back of the receiver.
Any idea what is wrong?
Thanks.

  • XAV-701HD bought in USA change to Asian region for the radio tuner?

I bought XAV-701HD Car Head unit from Amazon USA, but bought down to Sri Lanka where I live, I wanted to have MirrorLink and a good head unit, I loved this unit as of its features and it’s a ‘Sony’. I fixed the unit on my new 2014 Subaru Forester and it works beautifully but with one exception, the radio channel spacing in this unit is in US configuration (0.3MHz gap), where in Asia this is 0.1 MHz steps. I checked the Firmware file for this unit in Asia region, its identical to the US region, so I believe the unit has the capability but some configuration sets it to US range. Pls let me know whether its possible to change this to Asia settings.

    Hi,
Thank you very much for your reply. I tested as you suggested, but brief touch on teh arrow or seak does not tune in 0.1MHz steps, but in 0.2MHz steps. I got a short Video. Note here there is very strong radio station on 101.0MHz but it does not get tuned in to. In Sri Lanka most of the radio stations on even steps of 0.1MHz which I'm missing. Any help is greatly appriciated. I stil couldnt fully explore the MirrorLink as my phone dosent suport it. Eying for a Xperia Z1 LTE, still want to make sure to further invest on this head unit as I get only few radio stations

  • Phone Audio to USB out- how?

    Hey gang-
When I'm on the road, my iPhone is plugged into the USB port on my car stereo. This charges the phone and allows me to play iPod content and hear GPS commands over the car audio. Love it!
But what I can't do is hear phone audio that way. When I get a call, the Ring Tone does indeed play over the car speakers. But as soon as I answer, the caller audio plays only to the iPhone ear speaker or over the phone main Speaker- but never over the USB audio output.
Is there any way or any app that would enable this?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Dave, you are not the only one. I was able to achieve exactly what you are asking for before updating my iPhone to iOS 4. My phone is plugged into the car through a regular mini jack (not USB). I used to be able to pick up a call that would come through while I was listening to the iPod function on the phone. Both the phone ring AND the caller's voice would come through the car stereo speakers, and the microphone on the iPhone would pick up my voice, resulting in a "poor man's" hands free phone. The instant I updated to iOS 4, that capability was lost. I can pick up the call if it comes in while I listen to the iPod, and the caller will hear me but I will not hear them on the car speakers. If I tap the "speaker" button on the phone, I am then able to hear them but only on the phone's speaker.
I wish Apple would bring that capability back...

  • Phone Audio on Jabra SP700 Hands Free

I have a Palm Centro and a JabraSP700. I am able to setup the Palm Centro to communicate with the Jabra. But, I am unable to get the phone audio to play on the Jabra. When I make a phone call, the Jabra says that it is connected. When I quit the phone call, the Jabra says "call ended" and so it's clear the Jabra is communicating with the Palm  But, the phone call audio remains on the Palm Centro.I can switch the audio from the normal ear speaker to the Palm Centro speakerphone and the audio goes to the phone speakerphone. Now, when I first did the setup, I got audio to go to the Jabra but that happened once and no more.  I've searched the Internet far and wide but there seems very few instructions for this kind of task. The Palm instruction manual has very little in this regard.

  • No phone audio but speaker phone works

Since the 2.2 upgrade my phone audio will be dead unless I turn on the speaker phone. Doing a powerdown reset has fixed this in the past, but today no help. I searched the fourms and found others with 2.2 audio issues but in their case the speaker phone is not working, opposite of my issue.
Sometimes it will work normally. Anyone else have this issue or a solution. This problem did not surface until the 2.2 update.
    Thanks

I had the same issue and a restore from backup and a reset to factory default settings did not work. I did notice that when I tried to turn up the volume the phone thought that my headphones were plugged in. I plugged my earbuds in and I could make calls and hear just fine but when I took the earbuds out I could only use the speaker phone.
So I took it into the Apple store and they said that there is a sensor in the earphone jack that can be clogged with dust and dirt. They then preceded to pull out a can of air and sprayed into the headphone jack and it now works just fine. So if you have a can of air give it a try.

  • Is xav-701hd unilink compatible? will it work with Mobile ES equipment such as XDP-210EQ & cd chgrs

I am interested in the Sony XAV-701HD unit for my car - a 2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan non-bose.  I already have an aftermarket unit with the Metra dash kit, so I know it will fit.  What I'm curious about is if this unit is compatible with the Sony accessories already installed in my car.  These include:
    CDX-T70MX cd changer
    MDX-62 MD Changer
    XDP-210EQ equalizer/signal processor
    XA-C30 source selector
I believe all of these are the now defunct "Mobile ES" line, but I'd like to confirm they will work with this new unit before I purchase it.  Thank you.

    Hello Mr. Nix,
    Welcome to the Sony Community.
Unfortunately, the CDX-T70MX; MDX-62 and XA-C30 will not work with the XAV-701HD unit.

  • XAV-701HD and Galaxy S3 SCH-I535

When I connect my S3 to my XAV-701HD I get "incompatible USB device."
I assume this is going to require a firmware update for the head unit. Does anyone know if and when this is scheduled to be released?
Also, any word on the US version of Drive Link? That's probably a Samsung question (waiting on a reply from them) but thought I would ask since I'm here.

    • The Samsung Drive Link app is required to use the MirrorLink feature. The availability of the Samsung Drive Link app will depend on the country, carrier and model number. The Drive Link app is distributed through Samsung Apps or Google Play stores.
    • The firmware of your A/V Center device must start with HR. Check to ensure you have the latest firmware version:
    1. Go to the Home screen on the A/V Center.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Firmware Version.
    • If the MirrorLink connection is not correctly established:
    1. Disconnect the USB cable.
    2. Close the Drive Link app.
    3. Try to connect again.
    • Close the Drive Link app after disconnecting the USB cable

  • XAV-701HD firmware update

I am having trouble upgrading the firmware on my XAV-701HD.  I followed the instructions here:
    http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?upd_id=8518&os_id=99&mdl=XAV701HD
I've downloaded the zip file and extracted it. I've copied the extracted files to a USB drive, so that BIN file is located on the USB here: /update/update/SONYXAV.BIN .I've connected the USB to my XAV-701HD.
On my XAV-701HD, in the Settings Menu under Firware Version, the current Firmware Version is displayed: HR10_xav_1.12.001
When I choose the "Update" button, the "Firmware Update Available" screen appears. It says:
    New Firmware Version
    HR10_xav_1.12.001      -->     ---
    Update system firmware?
Two buttons are below, "Cancel" and "Update".   My problem is that the "Update" button is disabled and nothing happens when I tap it.  Perhaps the new version of the firmware that is on the USB should be displayed instead of the three hyphens (---) on this screen, but it is not.
I've tried placing the SONYXAV.BIN file at the root level of the USB drive and also under the first /update folder, but it hasn't helped.  I've also tried a completely different USB drive.
Any idea what. is wrong?  Thanks for your help.

  • I think my XAV-701HD is baffed.

My first problem is the radio. When i installed a 601 into a customers car today i tuned to 104.7. On his car it gave the station name as HOT 104.7. My 701 will only say 104.7. With HD radio and all that jazz shouldn't it at least give a station name? Next problem. Neither my Iphone 4s nor my wife's Samsung Galaxy S3 will play Pandora properly. The only way we can use Pandora is thru BT Audio.....and even then the name of the song never changes. The song will change but the old song name stays displayed. I tried both wired and wireless. When i try to run Pandora app on either phone it says to control app thru phone. I run Pandora on phone.....try to click app on 701.....and still nothing. My next problem is connectivity with the Samsung Galaxy S3. When i try to pair the phone to the 701, the phone locks up when you try to use it. Last time i linked it to the 701 the phone froze and was stuck on a page that wanted me to delete all my apps. I just bought this deck on December 5th and i'm in awe over all these problems. I've been an installer since 1993 and this has been my worse experience with a headunit to date. Will a firmware update help this thing? Or is mine already up to date? It has the HR in the firmware numbers. Or should i send this puppy in as defective?

    Hello Chuck,
Welcome to the Sony community forums. we will break down the answers based on your questions, however it does not sound like your 701 is defective, please review below.
    1. RDS/ PSD data not displaying .   Will it show RDS data  when playing a standard OTA  radio station? and if so  when you switch over to HD programming the PSD data is missing, so our question back  is do you have HD  installed?
    2. Pandora  is paired via Bluetooth,  as shown on In the Operating Instructions (page 44), however it will require you to properly pair your phone (page 38).  Please note you must connect the iPhone via USB  as shown on the notes of page 44.
     3. Concerning your Galaxy S 3  are you trying to connect using mirrorlink?  please be aware Samsung has not released a firmware update to give MirrorLink capability to the U.S. version Samsung Galaxy S3.   Compatibility with MirrorLink is dependent on the smart phone (i.e, the smart phone manufacturers), not strictly on the firmware of the 701HD Headunit.
This link from the car connectivity consortium is for the International version of the Samsung galaxy S3 and will not work on the US version. If you have downloaded it and you have a US model S3 it will not work
    http://cert.mirrorlink.com/ProductListing/?MLID=SR120010
Please contact Samsung to ask if they plan on releasing a version for the United States.
Hope that helps answer some of your questions, however concerning  the display, it may be your settings  and for that we would suggest calling in as there are many diffrent outcomes depending on what settings you have and the conditions.

  • Head phone/audio out jack location

This is feedback for Apple. I was not able to find any specific place on the apple web site to send feedback so I'm putting it here.
I have new 27 inch iMac. I love it.
One little niggle: I have a frequent need to plug and unplug my head phones. Having the only jack located on the back is a pain. If you could place a head phone jack discreetly on the lower left or right side, or on the bottom, of the case it would be much simpler to access.
If it is possible to change the output from internal speakers to headphone (audio out) via software that would also be good. Then I would never have to unplug the headphone, just switch them on and off via preferences as desired.

    iMic Works great.
    I found this web page
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20050614171126634
and used the Applescript by RobLewis to toggle between the internal and iMic system (you need to change the two property items to the words used in your System Preferences Sound Output). I have saved the Applescript as an App so I just need to click on it in the Dock to toggle the sound system.
Now if only I could toggle Front Row between internal and external displays in the same Applescript...
I currently use TV Row for selecting the display for Front Row:

  • Kin Twom phone audio doesn't work w/o headset

    Hey there guys,
For the past few weeks, the audio on my Kin Twom phone will not work whenever someone calls me  (or I call them) unless I am using a plugged in headset (I have not tried a blue tooth headset yet). This is very annoying when I need to call people for work, or my coworkers need to call me and I cannot hear the caller on the line because I don't carry a headset with me everywhere I go. The phone speaker works randomly about 10% of the time, and even today the audio was not working for several minutes, then suddenly turned on in the middle of an attempted phone call to my boss. Apparently, the caller can still hear me on their side, because they have texted me back directly after a call asking why I was talking to them and could not hear them.
I don't know if it is a different set of speakers, but my music can still play through the phone's speakers; only the phone calls do not work. I would say I take rather good care of this phone, and I have never dropped it, so I don't understand what is happening. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Phone audio cutting out

Updated to iOS 4.3.4 this weekend and ever since then, when talking on phone (both my iPhone 3GS and my wife's iPhone 4) the audio cuts out for a second on average every minute during the call (the frequency of the one second cut-out seems to fluctuate). Don't know if this is an iOS issue or an AT&T issue. Anyone else experiencing anything like this and/or have a suggested solution? Thanks.

Yes! I have the same issue too with me Motorokr s9 stereo BT headset and my Jawbone Icon -- This happens both when playing music via the iPod app OR when speaking on the phone. I can't put the phone in my pocket or else this happens!!! I also can't put it on the desk then walk around my 12x12 office without the dropouts. Having to hold the phone close to the headset kinda defeats the purpose. BTW, my 3GS worked almost flawlessly with these devices. I know, early-adopter syndrome but REALLY! I really rely on the BT headsets
Just got off the phone with Apple Support -- they were ver nice and helpful. They've scheduled me a Genius appt for tomorrow morning so they can run diags on the iPhone. They've also asked me to bring the headsets.

  • SE MW600 - no phone audio -- all else ok

I have been using the MW600 for 11 months with great results.  Fabulous product.  This morning, the audio for both incoming and outgoing phone calls stopped working (paired with a BB9780).  The mp3 playback works fine, and it even recognizes when a call is incoming/initiated by pausing the mp3 playback but I get no audio of the call.  I've reset the MW600 and re-paired but the behaviour is the same.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance ........... nauticalneilp

I'm not sure about Blackberry phones, but at least in Android phones there is a setting in the phone for the headset where you can choose if you want the headset to be used for media audio and/or call audio. You might want to look trough the settings and see if you find something similar.
If you can't find any setting I would recommend that you try this headset with some other phone, preferably Android, to see if it might be the headset that's broken.

  • Xav 701hd issues

1st my unit will not update. I have unzipped file and placed it on a thumb drive after restarting unit numerous times. It will not find the file on the drive, it just sits there with dashes where the new file name should be.
2nd why cant this unit be used for more than 1 thing at a time. I have installed drivelink and it makes you choose drivelink or everything else. It will disconnect from bluetooth as soon as drivelink is started. This defeats the purpose! So you can only stream audio files through drivelink, no pandora, or radio simultaneously this makes absolutely no sense. I dont audio files on my phone so if drivelink is active you cannot listen anything?
If streaming pandora you cant use dl for navigation or anything is this the design or am i doing something wrong.
Also is there plans to be able to do more than just one screen with dl? The interface and limited things you can do are a joke.

I am having the exact same issues with the update.  I downloaded the software, unzipped the file, extracted content, sent file to Sony 16g (16GM) USB, go to update and the "update" button is greyed out.  I reset the unit twice hoping this would help and it did not.  The only content on the USB is what was installed from factory.  Bought it brand new trying to rule out any variable.  The update file shows up on the USB.
