XBox 360 HD-DVD with iMac

I'm using my HD-DVD drive from my XBox 360 to watch movies on my iMac when booting into Windows. I use Cyberlink's PowerDVD (only player I know that supports Blu-Ray and HDDVD)
It works fine, except for 2 things...
1.) When I was running Windows Vista Ultimate, the movie Beowulf would cause the system to crash when I would play the movie (the menu would play perfectly, but once I chose to play the movie, I get a blue screen with driver problems with my video driver)
2.) Since I couldn't run the movie with Windows Vista, I installed Windows XP Pro... the movie plays perfectly now (video resolution asks you to switch to 1920x1080, from 1920x1200. BUT!!! I cannot have my HD-DVD drive plugged into the USB port when starting the iMAC because the system gets stuck on the gray screen. If I remove the USB connection and turn on the iMac, it boots up fine.
So does anyone know any fixes or workarounds between these 2 issues?
P.S. HD movies look AWESOME on this 24" iMac.

According to a report posted here, someone connected an XBox 360's HD-DVD drive to a Mac's USB port and it was recognized. If you're intending to connect it to a Mac with PCI slots and running OS 10.2.8 or newer, you can and should install a USB 2.0 card. A card having an NEC controller chip will be more Mac-compatible than others. If you plan to connect it to a Mac without USB 2.0 upgrade capability, using the onboard USB 1.1 bus will be limiting. I've got an external Pioneer DVD±RW USB drive, but I've never tried connecting it to my B&W G3's onboard USB 1.1 port to read DVD data disks (I connect it to the USB 2.0 PCI card). Try it and see what happens - you can't damage anything. In addition to the Mac's CPU speed and graphics capabilities, playing a DVD game would require a faster bus than USB 1.1. Hopefully, you can install a USB 2.0 PCI card and enjoy optimal performance.

  • Microsoft XBox 360 HD DVD drive and Panther/Tiger with USB 1?

Hi, I've looked everywhere for this information, but is it possible to connect my Microsoft XBox 360 HD DVD drive into my blue and white (which runs Tiger, but wondering if this'll work with Panther for another computer). I don't currently have my blue and white G3 to test it with... So, can I connect it to my blue and white and read JUST data CDs and DVDs under USB1.1? Is it bearable? Could I run a DVD game, or is it too slow? And yes, I do have a DVD Dual layer burning drive in my blue and white, but this is just a question for a computer I want to buy, which would run Panther.. And I do know I can't boot off of this, since it is USB...
    thank you...

  • Xbox 360 Refurbished with headset?

Hello, I recently purchased an refurbished xbox 360 250gb console from gamespot.  They told me that the headset was not included in any refurbished console because it comes directly from Microsoft.  That was the consensus at other stores too.  Now I checked the Bestbuy website and it says the refurbished models do come with the headset.  The description is the same as the new xboxes though so for anyone who has purchased the 250gb refurbished xbox from Bestbuy, does it actually come with a headset or is this just an error on the website.  I don't want to take a trip to bestbuy to buy this xbox if it doesn't actually come with it.  Thank you.

    Hi crazyicehead,
I can see why you would be concerned about the headset not being included given what others have told you but I don't see any reason why our product description would be wrong.  Ours should include a Black Xbox 360 headset if you are looking at this one: Xbox 360 Refurbished 250GB Console (Matte Black)

  • Xbox 360 not working with Airport Express

I have a Airport Extreme router and I just bought a airport express so I can wirelessly relay the signal and hook up my xbox 360 to the express. I put it in WDS mode and it worked fine up until the xbox 360 ran the IP address test. It didn't pass the IP and my settings were on automatic. I thought the Express acts as a extension to the Airport but I guess not. Are there any settings I can change to make this work? Please help.

Same issue you have except I never connected the printer directly to my Mac via the USB. Went straight to the wireless Airport Base Station and connected the printer. Printer is found in "Printer Setup Utility" and connected via "Bonjour", unsure what that is. However the *"Printer Setup Utility"* is asking me to select: *"Print Using"* and giving choices such as CANON BJC-1000 - GIMP-PRINT v5.0.0 beta2. I am unsure what to select. And the printer still doesn't print even with one of these 20 choices selected. Any ideas from anyone?

  • Xbox 360 connect problems with live

hello everyone, i was hoping that you guys could help me like you have so many times before. well i have an xbox 360 and am trying to connect live through my mac. I have done everything correctly manually and everytime i test connection DNS Fails please someone help me.

I never got it to work - I ended up hooking up a cheap netgear 802.11g router to the Airport router.
Which was nice because it created 2 networks a high speed 802.11n and a slower 802.11g.

  • Will Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on work on iMac?

As the topic says i am wondering if the Xbox HD-DVD drive will work on my 20"iMac that runs on Bootcamp/XP? I saw a clip on Youtube that somebody used the HD-DVD player on a MacBook Pro. Therefore i was thinking that it shouldn't be a problem to run it on an iMac...?
If anybody has any knowledge or hands-on experience on this, i would appreciate it very much!
Most of my concern is the hdcp, will my ATI X1600 256MB card play it, or actually support it?
    Thanks!!

I'm answering my own question by saying, Yes, it can be done! After some nervwrecking hours i got it working and HD-DVD looks absolutely faboulous on the iMac's screen!!! Too bad i "only" have the 20" iMac:)
So, the process was like this:
I started looking for drivers to the Xbox HD-DVD player and it is easy to find all kinds of information on the Internet about this. Windows XP found my device and found the drivers too, so there's no need to install any drivers for it. Now the HD-DVD drive will show up as a CD Drive in My Computer. This was a bit confusing for me as i thought it hadn't properly installed the drivers, but it has/had.
I am not possible though to read the files from the drive by double clicking the icon, so that sort of distracted me too, but seems to be completely "normal".
There are two softwares at the moment that can play HD-DVD and they are WinDVD 8 and Cyberlinks PowerDVD Ultra. I first started with the WinDVD 8 since thay have a 14 day free trial, and it is some 40 bucks cheaper than the PowerDVD. I installed the WinDVD normally and launched the player. It straight away gave me error messages and wouldn't want to play, although i heard a small buzz from the HD-DVD player. I tried to reinstall the WinDVD but same thing happened.
After some time with trying to find a solution and bunch of Googling i went to Cyberlink's homepage. Unfortunately Cyberlink doesn't have (or at least i didn't find) a trial version of the PowerDVD Ultra, so if you want it, you'll just have to buy it. But they have a small downloadable program called HD Advisor that checks your computer's system to see if it is HD fit. I run that on my and it said that my graphics-card driver needed to be updated and i didn't have a software to playback the HD-movies. That was strange i though, as i still had the WinDVD running...I tried to restart and run the HD advisor one more time and same thing came up.
I bought the PowerDVD Ultra (100 bucks). It takes some time for the verification if you pay by credit-card, so please be patient here, it took me almost 24 hour till i got the link to download the program....I installed the PowerDVD, launched it and....Nada! An error message said my graphics driver needed to be updated to play the movie. Ok, should be a piece of cake i thought! Boy, was i wrong!
I have the ATI Radeon X1600 256MB, and according to ATI you need to uninstall any earlier software before installing the new one, and so i did. This is where it got really frustrating for me. See, after i uninstalled the drivers for the ATI, it didn't find anymore the VGA drivers, and without them i wasn't able to install the new drivers!!!
So here i am, stuck with 800x600 pixel, and neither my computer nor my software wants to change that! This is where i would recommend people to be careful, and maybe make somekind of backup. So, here goes Google again and reading in different forums, until i finally found in a troubleshooting section, where thay said that a program called ATI Catalyst Control Center needs to be installed. I downloaded it, installed it, restarted my computer and BOOM! It worked! Wonderful!!
It's not the latest driver, but still rather new (16.12.2006), and i'm not even sure if i have done it right, but everything is working like it should, the screen looks wonderful, after coming out from hours of 800x600 ****!:)
Sorry for making this post so terribly long, but i don't think i could have made it shorter without leaving out some important points. Now, if anybody has some questions or problems, just feel free to ask me and i'll try to answer them best way i can.
    Regards,

  • XBOX 360 Not Compatable With Other Internets through WRT54G

Well, I've been playing XBOX live on my 360 for a couple of months now. When I try to "party up" with a few of my friends from school though, it says that our internets aren't compatable. I called microsoft not knowing anything about what is going on and they just gave me some letters and numbers. One of them was UDP 3074 and the other one was PCP 3074. One, what do these things mean? Two, why am I having this problem? And three, how can I fix it?

Access router setup apge .... Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub tab "Port range forwarding" 1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 2) On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 3) Now save the settings 4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration" and disable the UPNP and save the settings. 5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox ip address :- 192.168.1.20 subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0 default gateway :- 192.168.1.1 Please assign the dns address on the xbox primary dns :- 4.2.2.2 secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1 6)Click on setup ...change the MTU size to 1365 ..click save settings ... 7) Please try to test your xbox live.

  • Using Mini Dvds With iMac?

Hi, I have a dell (pos) right now and I'm getting a iMac today, but i was wondering if the iMac supports the mini dvds that you use in the digital recorder cameras?

You will need an external tray-fed DVD drive for that.
That said, given the choice, you don't want to use a mini-DVD camcorder anyway. They are designed for immediate playback in a set-top DVD player, not for editing or manipulation. The MPEG-2 compression that the video undergoes substantially degrades the quality of the video, and because it stores the video in GOPs, you can't do frame-accurate editing of the video.
You want something that shoots DV (often cheaper than the DVD models), or AVCHD (mostly found on flash and hard-disk HD models). Mind you, AVCHD editing can be slow -- it's highly compressed.

  • Having issues with 2 xbox 360 slims connected with an Open NAT

I have 2 of the newer xboxes connected via an actiontec MI424-WR Rev. E and I'm having issues getting an Open NAT on either. 1 is connected via Ethernet and 1 is connected wirelessly. My router is also connected to my computer. I havetried portforwarding and using a dmz host on 1 resulting in 1 360 having an open NAT(wireless one) and the wired one having a moderate NAT. Anyway I could get them to work together without asking Verizon to send me a new router or buying a new one. Please help.

I am having this issue also.  I think the UnPNP is broken on the ActionTec.  I may be getting rid of FiOS for this reason.  I had 3 Xboxes working from my DSL connection and LINKSYS router no trouble.  Very disappointed !   I was hoping to get a poll going so I posted my similar issue.

I have tried to copy a previously made DVD (on my same computer) but when I put the disk in, it immediately starts playing. I turned off the the immediate start up in preferences but it still starts playing. Therefore, I cannot get to Disk Utility to start the process. Any suggestions? Thanks, Gerry

    Hello Gerry,
stop the playback in DVD Player, then quit the app. This should do the trick.

  • Xbox 360 meets IMAC

Is it possible/advisable to run an xbox 360 through an IMAC. will there be significant delay? how is it done?
    Thanks
    J_Rock

J_Rock, Welcome to the discussion area!
None of the iMacs have any type of video input. Therefore there is no way to directly display the Xbox 360 output to the iMac's screen.
You may be able to use one of the devices made by elgato.com
