Xbox 360 into an imac

hey, i was wondering if there is anyway for my 360 to plug into my imac in order to ue it's screen? Could this be done through vga?

You can use one of these devices:
http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvhybrid&PHPSESSID=91d7c31c938e b89bbeb73baa3160b0aa
Other than that, the iMac has no video-in port, so it would be impossible without a device similar to the one listed above

What iMac model do you have ?

For the 2009 and 2010 27" iMacs with Mini DisplayPort you would need something like the Kanex XD http://www.kanexlive.com/xd
The Kanex XD is not compatible with ThunderBolt iMacs.

  • XBOX 360 Hardwired to iMac Wifi'd to a Belkin router

I don't want to fork up the 80 bucks to buy the wireless card for my 360 because the signal in my house is poor due to all of the steel in our walls i'm guessing...and I was wondering if there was a way to hardwire my 360 to the back of my iMac and use the iMac as a Bridge to get the net on my 360? THANKS

If your iMac is currently accessing the Internet wirelessly, you can use OS X's Internet Sharing feature to share that Internet connection through the iMac's built-in Ethernet port as follows...
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wireless to Wired):
    Enable Software Firewall
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    - Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] Wireless Internet Router > (wireless) > [AirPort Card] Mac_#1 [Ethernet port] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] XBox 360
    Setup Port Order
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
    - Verify that "AirPort" is at the top of the list, followed by "Built-In Ethernet."
    - Click "Apply Now."
    Configure the Internet Connection
    System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > TCP/IP
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
    - Share your connection from: AirPort
    - To computers using: Built-In Ethernet (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    - Click Start

    Hi Frank
    Reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    +1. Shut down the computer.+
    +2. Unplug the computer's power cord.+
+3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.+
    +4. Release the power button.+
+5. Attach the computers power cable.+
+6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.+
and then toggle uncheck and recheck "Automatically reduce brightness before display go to sleep" in the Energy Saver Preference.
Little story about that feature, back in Tiger and early in Leopard that feature worked so well, that it drove a lot of folks crazy. Every startup it would reset back to reducing the brightness, even if folks had it unchecked and did not want there display to dim.
Personally I prefer to use an Active Screen Corner if I get up and leave the iMac for a short time, but also have the Display set to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity.

  • Xbox 360 - Optical line-in pass through 5.1 to optical line-out on an iMac?

Hi guys, i'm in the market to purchase a new 5.1 surround sound system for my room and the following issue has been purplexing me.
IS it possible to daisy chain my XBOX 360 to my iMac with optical cables and pass through 5.1 surround sound to the decoder on the sound system?
So i'd have an optical cable from my xbox to the line-in on my iMac. I'd use Rogue Amoeba's Line-In app to pass the sound through to the optical line-out and through to the sound system.
(I know it works using stereo sources, but i don't know about 5.1 digital sound.)
I also know i could just connect them both to separate optical ports on the sound sytem, but i'm trying to listen to 2 sources at the same time. (5.1 from XBOX and music from iMac).
Any thoughts on this are appreciated!

I'm convinced things work like this:
The SBX-Fi receives the encoded SPDIF.<
The drivers decode it into the 5 digital audio signals. This siimply regenerates what was put into the encoding and has no effect on its "volume."<
The 5 digital audio signals are sent to the SBX-Fi hardware, as is.<
The signals are widened (not sure about the SBX-Fi, but for SBLi've-/SBAudigy-series card it's 32-bits with IIRC 4 bits for headroom, which is 24dB) at input by the SBX-Fi hardware. The additional headroom is probably able to handle most effects/mixing which might happen, but might produce a signal which would clip on output if the intermediate results produce a digital volume over 00%.<
The master output volume operates on the output signals before they are narrowed.<
The output signals are narrowed (dithered) and distributed.<
If that's correct, it means you should be able to simply lower the master output volume in the soundcard mixer; and that presumes something's going on like high Crystalizer settings, or something; to elminate clipping distortion.

  • Xbox 360 meets IMAC

Is it possible/advisable to run an xbox 360 through an IMAC. will there be significant delay? how is it done?
    Thanks
    J_Rock

J_Rock, Welcome to the discussion area!
None of the iMacs have any type of video input. Therefore there is no way to directly display the Xbox 360 output to the iMac's screen.
You may be able to use one of the devices made by elgato.com

  • Imac & xbox 360

I have been reading about connecting an xbox 360 to the imac via the elgato Eyetv. However it seems as though the eyetv would cause the 360 to lag because of USB. Would the EyeTV 410 still lag even though its connected via firewire? And would there be any way at all to reduce the lag?

You are the 10 milliionth person to ask this question, and I'm in the exact same boat, but with a PS2.
UNFORTUNATELY, Apple has neglected to put any type of input on the 24" iMac's beautiful display, so my suggestion would be to WRITE apple. If enough people write them with this request, they WILL include it. Please write them. PLEASE. Here is a link, to make it easier:

Please, make anybody else you know do the same. If enough people do it, the next iMac WILL have an input!!!!!

  • Can anyone tell me how to port forward and setup an XBOX 360 using my Time Capsule??

    Xbox 360
When playing the game online, the minimum speed of your network should be 128kbps. The ideal network speed for playing the game online is 768kbps. If you are having a problems with lag check the following:
    Network Troubleshooting:
Disable any firewall or security features on your router.
Set port forwarding on your router to the IP address of your Xbox 360. This game uses port 3074 (UDP/TCP). Additionally Xbox LIVE requires ports 80, 53 TCP and 88, 53 UDP.
Place your Xbox 360 into the DMZ of your router.
Disconnect your router and try the game. If it works regularly at this point something about your router may not be completely compatible with the specific needs of this game. Check with your router manufacturer and Microsoft's Xbox Live Connection Issues page for additional steps that may need to be done to resolve the issue you are having. You can also verify that you have an Xbox Live compatible router.
If you are having issues connecting while multiple Xbox 360 consoles are connected on the same network, try forwarding port 3074 (UDP/TCP) for one Xbox 360 and setting the other as DMZ. There is a chance that this may not resolve you issue,  if it doesn’t then you may want to consider getting an additional public IP address by contacting your Internet Service Provider and assigning it to one of these two consoles.
NOTE: If setting port forwarding or DMZ helps your connection issue, you may want to assign your Xbox 360 a static IP address within your home network. This can help to ensure that the configurations you made do not need to be done again. You can visit PortForward's Static IP Guide for a detailed guide on how to do this.
NOTE: Many broadband internet modems are coming with routing capabilities built in. Please contact your internet service provider to determine if your internet modem has an integrated router. If it does, they should be able to assist you with the steps above for setting up your router.
Once you have verified that your network setup is not the cause of the issue, try the following:
Try connecting to a different server. Some servers may have other players connected to them that you do not have an optimal connection with. In most games this is accomplished by backing out to the main menu and then selecting multiplayer again. From there you can try connecting to another online game.
Run the Xbox Network Self Test to see how strong your NAT is currently set to. Once the test is completed you will be notified if there is an issue with your connection. If you select "More Info" you will be given information about your NAT type and some steps to resolve any issues with your connection.
Moderate and Strict NAT types may have issues connecting to online matches. You may get the error "Notice - The game session is no longer available." If you do then enabling UPnP, forwarding port 3074, or placing your Xbox in your router's DMZ may resolve this issue. Please consult your router documentation for instructions on how to do this.

Whoa....this just went way over my head.... I already have 6.1 installed for my Airport Utility.
Read again what I wrote.. 6.1 is the problem.. or part of it.
You need to install the earlier 5.6 version which I have given you explicit instructions to do.
I have done something now and can not connect the XBOX at all now....unless you can provide me step by step directions I may have to call Apple Support.
This will happen over and over.. just press reset and start again.. you need to learn how to do the setup and using 5.6 utility will help you.. as will using ethernet from the computer to the TC.. trying to fix things over wireless is like sitting on a tree branch you are sawing off. As soon as you update you will fall to the ground.
I am not that sure that Apple Support will have any idea.
Do a google search .. you will find most people struggle with this.. Microsoft made the xbox to use upnp with vista specs.. if you use a router without upnp, ie any apple router.. you will have issues.
Have a go at bypassing the problem.. I have no idea if this will work.. I do not use a TC as the main router because much of my network including xbox and ps3 is just a pain.. I use a modem router with upnp. And bridge the TC.. that is the setup I would recommend.
Try this.. once you have installed 5.6 utility.
Get the IP of the XBox and click enable default host.. and put the IP address in there.. this is called DMZ.. all unassigned packets are forwarded to this ip address.. it is like a port forwarding for all ports.
See if it helps.. If it does you will need to lock the xbox address so it doesn't change.. we can get to that.
Tell me what kind of broadband you have and what modem router first.. none of this will work if you have double NAT.

  • 20" plastic cinema and xbox 360?

    hi all,
i'm currently running two 20" ADC monitors on my g4. i have an alchemyTV card to capture video and also play xbox/ps2/cube thru svideo.
on tuesday i add an xbox 360 into the mix. the reviews that i have been reading all say you need an hd set to really appreciate this new machine. in about six months i'll be adding a plasma but in the mean time, is there anyway to get the 360's VGA, component or D-Terminal HD cable to run on a 20" ADC display?
here's some links to the cables at lik-sang
    D-Terminal HD (cleanest signal, preferred)

VGA (easiest? would dr.bott's vga extractor work?)

    any input is greatly appreciated.

I was wondering about that too? I have a clear 17' ADC with a Apple G5 Dp 1.8(8 slots). I know it'll look good on our monitors but how can we do it w/
    vga's. I also hear X-box will sell a s-video cord soon.

  • Connecting iBook's internet to Xbox 360?

I know this may be a long shot, but is there any way for me to use my iBook's wireless internet connection to set up live on xbox 360? thanks

Actually yes. That's what I do when I go to my friend's house and his router isn't anywhere near his TV. I understand not wanting to drop $100 bucks on a wireless adapter.
First you need to enable internet connection sharing for the ethernet card. Go into System Preferences then Sharing. Go to Internet tab and select to share your Airport connection. Make sure you have Built-In Ethernet selected below and click Start.
Then you need to setup the ethernet card that you will use to plug your xbox 360 into and i always opt for manual setup rather than DHCP for internet connection sharing. Go into System Preferences and then "Network." Click on the "Built-In Ethernet." Click "Configure" at the bottom. Where it says "Configure IPv4" select "Manually."
Set the network cards ip address to 192.168.2.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Set your xbox 360 to the following
Go into your System Settings blade and select Network Settings. Edit, then make sure you select manual. After you enter the IP, Subnet, and Gateway. Just test it to make sure those clear. Your DNS won't pass right away. Then go back to the settings and select to edit your Primary DNS to the address below.
IP address 192.168.2.2, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.2.1, DNS 192.168.2.1
I usually don't get as fast a connection as I do any other way but it works. If it works, hit me up on Live with FR at SG Big Pun.

  • WRT54G v6 can't connect to Xbox 360

I plug my xbox 360 into my router and the link light will periodically blink as though it is trying to connect.  I checked the cable it is good, I even used a different cable and it still did the same thing.  When I check my xbox live status it just says network adapter disconnected.  Any help would be great.  Just got this xbox 360 2 days ago and want to use it online!

Connect the Xbox to your computer put static ip addresses on the two devices. And check if you get the same message.
