Xbox 360 slim will only connect to wireless-G interface on WRT160N

Hello there:
I purchased a new Xbox360 Slim about a month ago. Before that, in prevision of my new console's wireless capabilities I went ahead and changed my old WRT54G (1.1) for a wireless-N enabled WRT160N router.
When I first plugged the console in it was a nightmare to configure the wireless settings..... It would NOT connect, in any possible way... And when I finally made a connection it just dropped after aproximately 1 hour (I think it had something to do with WPA key renewal, if you must ask) I updated the firmware and everything was smooth again. BUT! it only connects on wireless-G.... I've got the router set on "Mix" so it accepts my notebooks 802.11-G and my 360 wireless N, but it just detects the router in G mode and connects that way....
I've tried EVERYTHING, but nothing works.
It connects just fine, I even get open NAT on the console, and play online with no apparent problems, but I need wireless N because the router and 360 are too separated, and the signal tends to get low. Also I usually stream 1080p content so I need more bandwidth.
I tried setting the router to "only wireless N" but then the console just won't connect, says it "can't connect to the wireless hardware"
I haven't been able to test other wireless-N hardware, so I don't really know if it's the router's fault, the console's or it's just they're not compatible...
Any tips?

Can't... My only two options are "automatic" or "only 20Mhz" ... :/ I can switch channels on 20Mhz only. But thanks for the tip.
EDIT:
OMG, I can't believe it..... It's NOT a wireless N malfunction.... it has to do with security..... I had WPA Personal as my authentification method.... Under Mixed works like a charm, and everything connects, but the Xbox just connects on wireless G. Under Wireless-N only, it just won't connect. But I tried disabling security, and it just connected on wireless N!
Now I've switched to WPA2 personal.... it connects perfectly on Wireless N even if I set the router to "Mixed" and both channel and radio band to auto.
My issue is solved, however, I still got to know is:
Why won't it connect while WPA is selected?

  • Airport Extreme dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi & new XBOX 360 Slim

I'm having issues getting my new XBOX 360 Slim to connect to my dual-band Airport Extreme when using wireless n. I can get it to connect with n but my connection speed on the 360 drops to 1 or 2 mbps, even though the signal remains strong. I can see the speed drop of the 360 using Airport Utility on my laptop. All other devices on the network are fine. When I switch the 2.4 GHz band on the AE to b/g only, then the connection speed on the 360 shoots up to 54 mbps. That of course neuters the rest of my wireless n devices to g speed since most connect to the 2.4 GHz band due to the limited distance of the 5 GHz band.
Short of finding a solution, my next step is to try a different router brand. I'd rather stick with Apple, but have had more issues with 2 AE models than all of my other Apple hardware combined.

I had a three year old XBOX 360 before with a newer external n adapter. I use the 360 to do a lot of streaming video from my computers so the n definitely came in handy. The external n adapter worked great with the AE. Unfortunately that 360 died so I bought one of the new ones as a replacement. They must be using different hardware for their new internal n adapter than their previous external n adapter.
My first step will be exchanging the new 360 tonight to see if it is isolated to just that machine. If it isn't, I'm going to try a new Logitech router just to see if that makes a difference.
Again, I can maintain a connection to n just fine with the AE, but the speed is dismal. In g the speed and connection are just fine.
I have not tried disabling encryption simply because I wouldn't run my router without it.

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • Laptop only connects to wireless internet in one room

I have a Toshiba Satellite L675-S7104. I have wireless internet, and the laptop will only connect in one room. However, my work laptop and other devices are able to connect all over the house. Also, at times, the internet service cycles on and off about every minute! The first problem is the more common one, though. Any suggestions?

...Comcast states it is not a problem with their connection since other devices connect....
Common story with Tier 1 support personnel. Apples and oranges really, just because other units connect does not necessarily mean the router is not part of the problem. Regardless, let's assume Comcast has ensured the router has the latest firmware, as there's nothing we can do about that.
First, try to follow the various suggestions in this article and see if that helps the situation at all:

If there's no improvement, try this driver from Toshiba Europe, it's a newer version than the one on the USA site. This is a zip file, so you'll have to extract all the files and run setup.exe to install it.

  • Equium M50 will only connect to WLan router when security is off

MY Equium M50 will only connect to my wireless BELKIN G+ MIMO ROUTER when the security is turned off,
What is the reason for this please?
    Blonde Bimbo!!

    Hello
Did you mean the WLan encryption which secures the entry to the wireless LAN?
I suppose you have set the encryption (WPA, WEP, etc...) on your WLan router but didnt configure the WLan card.
Well, in my opinion you should check which WLan encryption does the card support and then choose it on the WLan router. The encryption key should be set on the router and on the notebook!

    Hi WildCardGym,
Unfortunately we cannot provide information on future product availability on our forum. Your best option for more information would be to check with the manager at your local Best Buy®. I haven't heard anything about Xbox 360 availability difficulties so I'd have to think your store's stock should be refreshed soon!

  • Xbox 360 Slim

Hello, i just wanted to get some advice involving the xbox 360 slim. I currently own the original xbox 360(the white one) and i was wondering if i should get the new slim. Is there that much of a difference between the two? My xbox hasn't broke down on me for the past 3 years that ive had it and if i were to get the new one, could i trade mine in?

No you don't need to upgrade, the only difference is the fact that the slim one has built in wifi. I say if it aint broke then don't fix it, I think you'd just be wasting your money. Plus in about a year they're gonna be releasing a new Xbox so there's no point.

  • IPad will not connect to wireless

iPad will not connect to wireless network, keeps trying but will not connect.  Working on our other iPad that has no issue connecting to the same network

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
Or - Recalibrate the battery. See link below.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network.

My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network. Any other I join (eg:starbucks) internet says connection error. Even though the phone says it's connected.

Since  I have upgraded the the latest iOS in my iPhone 4S , this problem started and eventually the white button for Wi-fi stopped working. The one day before switching off the phone , I took out the SIM and reset the Networking and didn't switch on. Then I wrapped the phone with tissue paper and kept it in the deep refrigerator for 25 to 30 minutes and after cleaning frosty layer, I turned on the phone.... Somehow the Wi-fi button started working and the Wi-fi network too. Then only I inserted the SIM . Magic..!! My phone is still working fine . But I have to do this process once or twice a month every time Wi-fi stops working. Good luck my friend....hope you get benefitted !!

  • After recent apple update MBP will not connect to wireless internet

After running recent Security and Airport upgrades my Mac Book Pro (Intel) will not connect to wireless home router supplied by Verizon (GTE) and several public wi-fi's. Cannot get IP but sees networks. My iMac PPC still works fine. Prior to upgrade everything worked fine at home and abroad to other public wi-fi's. MBP still connects at work with AppleBase wireless. Can the upgrade be removed? Is there a simple fix? Should I wait for apple to fix this and break something else.... If not broken don't fix it..

    I'm having similar issues.
I have 2 MBP's. The newest one is about 1 month old and has never been able to connect to a WPA network. The older MBP is 20 months old and was originally installed with Tiger and gradually updated via Software Update and a retail copy of Leopard and subsequent Software Update updates to 10.5.2. Interestingly, this MBP was always able to access my WPA network until I decided to do an erase and install. I installed the retail copy of Leopard and was subsequently unable to access my WPA network. So, I went back to my Tiger install disks - but I'm guessing that whatever Leopard did *possibly* updated the firmware of the airport card as, even under Tiger, I could not access my WPA network (yes, I agree it seems unlikely that an OS update would/should update firmware but I am grasping at straws).
Trying to further understand the problem , I noted that the Network utility in System preferences would always show either a connection error or a connection timeout whenever I attempted to join my WPA network. I turned on syslog in my router and attempted to rejoin the network and saw the following errors:

  • Do you guys do Xbox 360 Slim Repairs?

so i have had my xbox for about 1-3 years now and about 2 months ago my xbox 360 slims laser burnt out. so i talked to a xbox support and i did what they said and they said send it in for $99 to repair. and after the call i accidently bumped into my xbox 360 slim and it fixed. but now its christmas and i got some new games. i tried them out it said the Open Tray Error. And i know its not the game its the xbox because these games are new (FIFA 15 and Madden NFL 15), And i bought them new. Well im kinda of mad because im not able to play my new games. And now i want to know if i can drop it off at my nearest bestbuy and see if they can replace the laser (disc reader). Or let GeekSquad fix it. i know for a price but i was just wondering how much and how long.
I would like to know asap. Thanks BestBuy!

    Hi benmcelhaney,
I wanted to jump in here and offer a suggestion!
While the Geek Squad would likely not be of much assistance considering your Xbox 360 is out of warranty and it sounds like you didn’t purchase Geek Squad Protection, I’ve personally utilized Microsoft’s repair services and they have an option that may save you a bit of money.
Per Microsoft’s Xbox Repair Process, seen here, out-of-warranty repairs that are submitted online seem to be $79 plus tax, as opposed to the $99 price point if you submit the claim over the phone.
If you’re yet to seek repair on your console, I hope you find this to be a bit helpful!
    Thanks,
