  • Xbox 360 Trade-In Issue

I've rarely felt so insulted in my many years of retail work and patronage as I have felt today at Best Buy. As a former employee of the chain, both in retail and the Geek Squad, I am generally quite forgiving of any issues I have while shopping there.
The goal of my visit was to trade in my Xbox 360 to upgrade to the knew Xbox One. There was a promotion online to get some value out of my old system. The promotion was as follows:
"In store only. Trade in any working Xbox 360 or PS3 console and receive a $50 coupon toward an Xbox One. Trade in a working Xbox 360 250GB or Sony PlayStation 3 Slim and receive a minimum $100 gift card"
I had a mis-matched console, admittedly; it was a black elite with a 250 GB final Fantasy XIII hard drive. Since it didn't specify models, I thought I would still be eligible.
When I got to the line, there were two other people being helped. About 5-10 minutes go by and I still hadn't been recognized by staff, but they were busy so that's fine. The bag was fairly heavy and I kept having to shift around but I wasn't even asked if I would like to place it on the counter or anything. I thought that was lame, but maybe that's not their policy.
Eventually the girl at the counter finished helping her customer then said (either on her radio or to another coworker) that she couldn't help "this guy" (I'm guessing me) because she had to go on her lunch break. It was at this time someone did say someone would be with me shortly. I waited a bit until I was told to go around the counter to Geek Squad. Then we moved to another station because the first one didn't work. Then that one had a pad problem so I had to go back around to where I started. A little annoying, but nothing too bad.
We finally started examining the system. The lady pulled it all out and verified that it worked and had a 250 GB hard drive. Unfortunately, my console was not in their system at all. My console was refurbished by GameStop but still had the seals, but because it wasn't the color white (since the Final Fantasy version what white) I couldn't trade it in. Despite the fact it was still an Xbox 360 Elite. It was just the wrong color.
I politely asked if there was anything we could do. Any sort of trade. She said "nope" and shook her head. Feeling a little miffed I asked if I apologized for being a bother and asked if I could speak to the supervisor. She curtly informed me that she was the supervisor. Her tone agitated me but I was aware I was on the verge of being one of "those" customers, but I asked to speak to a manager nonetheless. I wanted to get something for this console because I really wanted to spend my money at Best Buy and not have to go elsewhere. So she goes to the manager and explains everything to him. He comes out and asks how he could help. I explain that I really wanted to trade in the system towards an Xbox One like it was advertised in the ad online. This is where I completely lose it in my head.
He looks me in the eye and asks if I would like to recycle it.
Really? Out of all of the possible things you could tell me, you offer to take my item and destroy it for me? I was so surprised, I bet my jaw dropped. I don't really remember because of the rage I was thrown into. No, I didn't yell at him or get too bent out of shape. I politely (as much as I could) say no thanks and ask for my console back. Astonished, I remarked that if this is the way they treat customers then I should return the Galaxy phones my wife and I just got four days prior. I don't know if it was his Commonwealth accent or what, but that way he said "You certainly have that choice" only seemed to enrage me further. I left and of course the girl gives me a sickly-sweet "have a nice day" which only made me more disgusted.
I really wanted that system and I will buy it next, but certainly not from Best Buy. We are even thinking about returning the phones we bought and going to Verizon direct (I already set some of that up), and we may close out our Best Buy Credit Cards. We were even planning on buying a laptop later this month because the Geek Squad protection ran out on our last one and its about to break. I won't be doing that again, I can assure you. I'm so upset that mere words cannot describe them. All I wanted was something for my old console so it wouldn't have to collect dust and all I received from their management staff was insults. Good job. Hope it works out for you. I doubt my words mean anything to you, but maybe some one will hear them and take heed. I hope so, at least, because I don't want anyone to go through what I had to today.

  • Xbox 360 Trade-In

I saw that you could trade in a Xbox-360 250 GB edition and then you could get the $100 coupon and $75 off of an xbox one. I want to do this but my xbox-360 is the 320 GB Modern Warfare 3 edition and I was wondering if it is still valid for the offer. Thank You.

    Hello rocco88diger,
I'm glad to hear you're looking into upgrading your gaming experience with Best Buy.  I'll be happy to answer your questions today.
Assuming your console is in working condition in line with the terms and conditions for trades, then yes, it will qualify for the $175 promotion.  The additional trade-in value for the $100 gift card trade in value and the $75 off coupon will prompt during the trade as the associate assisting you goes through the transaction.  It should be a fairly straight-forward process, but if you have any trouble in the store at the time I'd recommend asking to speak with a supervisor while you're there.
    Have a great day!

  • Xbox 360 trade in for Xbox 720

I recently purchased an Xbox 360 from the Paramus, NJ store. I was told by the sales associate that a new Xbox 720 should be on the market at some point in the next couple of years. He suggested that I purchase the Best Buy extended warranty because once the Xbox 720 comes out I could trade in my Xbox 360 for my CURRENT PURCHASE PRICE of $200 if my Xbox 360 is still under warranty and I am purchasing the Xbox 720. This sounded like a great deal and I purchased to extended warranty, but the associate was unable to show me anything in writing that confirms this. Is this true or was the associate mistaken? I know that I can trade in the Xbox 360 under the normal trade-in program, but I dont see anything about getting a credit for my current purchase price.
Anyone know the answer to this?
    Thanks in advance.

    The associate was mistaken.

  • Xbox 360 250GB trade-in

So I went to my local best buy today and was all set to trade in my 360 for the "trade-in and trade up" promotion.. Then the person at customer service tells me that I was missing a controller to get the $150 credit..
I've read the promo terms and understood it as $100 for the 250gb console, $50 coupon towards xbox one and then an additional $10 per controller that was included..
Is this true? Am I not able to trade it in without a controller? I even told the person that I thought that the controller would just add $10 to my credit, and that I didnt think it was needed to get the $150 trade-in credit..
If I am able to trade-in my 250gb console without a controller for $150, then what can I do or show them when they tell me that I need to include a controller?

    Hello Noyskie,
Thank you for your interest in trading in your Xbox 360 at Best Buy. I am sorry to hear of the trouble you experienced at your local store when attempting to take advantage of the current trade-up offer.
It sounds like there may have been some confusion on the part of the associates you were working with. In most cases at least one controller is needed when trading in a console. For this offer, though, that was not required. With this in mind, I would encourage you to return to your store to attempt to trade in your console once again. If you have any questions or concerns while there I would encourage you to speak with a store manager who should be able to assist.
    Thanks,

  • Xbox 360 $175 trade in

On Saturday 6/20 it was the last day of the 175 dollar trade in for the 250gb xbox 360. My boyfriend and I went into the store and they told us that the 75 dollar coupon was not working so we had to trade it in for only 100 dollars. They did not give us any explanation to why this was happening and I feel as though we were cheated out of a deal because you said it ended the 20th and we came in on that day. Is there anyway we can get that 75 dollars back because I really enjoy your customer service but after this experience I am not so sure anymore. Thank you

    Hello jonfender,
Great questions about the Trade-In and Trade-Up promotion!  I'll do my best to answer your questions.
The coupon has an expiration date of 6/20.  So I'd Trade-In and use the coupon as soon as possible.  Usually these coupons are one per transaction.  You most likely wouldn't be able to combine the coupons.
You can view all the promotion details by clicking the link above.  Let me know if you have any questions and keep me in the loop on how it goes at the store if you decided to utilize the promotion.

  • HTC Trophy / XBOX 360 Game Promotion

I bought the Trophy a few days ago (before the last XBOX 360 game promotion). I've been trying to get my free game, but every time I hit https://microsoft.promo.eprize.com/verizonphone7/?affiliate_id=freexboxgamenow all I see is that the site is down for maintenance. Is there alternative way to submit my info so I can take advantage of the offer? This was the final incentive to upgrading my phone to Windows.
Someone please let me know how I can retrieve my free XBOX 360 game before the promotion terms expire.

Try again ...I was having the same problem, but late last night was able to get into freexboxgamenow.com and registered with no problem.  Just make sure you know your MEID number from the box your Trophy came in and the game you want.
    Good luck!

  • Minimum of $150 Toward an Xbox One Console with xbox 360 or ps3 trade in

Is this still active?  I understand that it is given out as a $100 gc and a $50 coupon towards an xbox one.  When I click the link online, instead of bringing up the $150 offer, it now brings up $120 offer with two controllers.  Is the $150 offer no longer valid?  If I remember correctly it wasnt supposed to expire until after new years. Thanks so much

    Hey again Knorman19,
This offer is, indeed, still available! It's only valid 11/02/2014 - 11/15/2014 though and can only be obtained at our U.S. retail stores -- online trades are not eligible for the coupon offer. For full details I'd encourage you to check out this other page:

  • Xbox 360 Slim Warranty Question

Well I would get a Xbox 360, but the thing bothering me is the RDOD, I know Microsoft gives you 1 year warranty, but still can you get a warranty from BestBuy for...lets say 3 years or so? If so, will it cover the RDOD? And how much would the warranty cost?

Since you are within the return policy, I believe the store may be able to offer you the option of taking advantage of the Trade -In promotion . Please connect with your local store directly and be sure to bring in the newly purchased item, the item you want to trade in and your receipts!

  • Why is my 5G iPod not recognized by Xbox 360?

It's been probably over a year (maybe 2?) since I've plugged my 5G ipod (firmware v1.3, model PA002LL) into my 360, but in the past it's worked fine. However, last night I was in the mood to listen to some tunes while playing xbox; but, when I plugged, it in my xbox would not recognize it. The xbox will charge my ipod, but it will not show the device as being connected to it. So, to make sure it wasn't an xbox issue, I plugged in an ipod shuffle, which was detected by the xbox right away.
I then called my brother and asked him to plug his 5G ipod (firmware v1.3) into his xbox 360 to see if it would be detected...of course, it was detected. So, this leads me to believe it is an issue with my ipod. I originally was going to try and downgrade the firmware back to 1.2.1, however, the fact that my brother's ipod works fine with his xbox360 leads me to believe it is not a firmware issue.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? If so, have you found a resolution, or do you have any ideas as to what I should try? My ipod has been working like a charm since I bought it 2 or 3 years ago up until this little quirk. Also, I will be plugging my ipod into my bro's xbox 360 tomorrow night, to verify that my ipod still won't be recognized.
    Thanks!

Eh, it's not really a glitch, it's just Apple changed something with the firmware along the way (probably going to 1.3), and Microsoft never did anything to try to keep it up to date with Apple's new firmware.
A Microsoft rep at my work said it was more Apple's fault because Microsoft tried to make a fix or new download to let the new firmware work, but "Apple didn't do that for them". But again, he's only a rep and I don't really believe it. Why would Apple not want to make their player supportable for Xbox? It's not like Apple makes game consoles.
I just think Microsoft didn't go out of their way to stay up to date with the iPod firmware, and you know they have their Zune which they're trying to promote so I'm sure they're in no rush to try to make iPod support work again for a while. This is unfortunate, cause I love the Xbox 360, but no way am I getting a Zune haha. Microsoft makes a great game console, Apple makes the best portable media devices, why can't they just get along? haha oh well.

  • Xbox 360 Slim

Hello, i just wanted to get some advice involving the xbox 360 slim. I currently own the original xbox 360(the white one) and i was wondering if i should get the new slim. Is there that much of a difference between the two? My xbox hasn't broke down on me for the past 3 years that ive had it and if i were to get the new one, could i trade mine in?

No you don't need to upgrade, the only difference is the fact that the slim one has built in wifi. I say if it aint broke then don't fix it, I think you'd just be wasting your money. Plus in about a year they're gonna be releasing a new Xbox so there's no point.

  • Student Deal: Free Xbox 360 with Windows PC Dilemna

So I just bought a Asus u46e for $729.99 from the Best Buy in Rochester, MN. However, when I tried to claim my free Xbox 360, the store clerk said that I had to order it from online. Is this correct, or has anyone heard otherwise?

Best Buy's participation in the promotion ended weeks ago.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Xbox 360 to iMac, lets finish this once and for all!

    Hello Everyone!
New to the forum here and I joint to get a finalised answer to a question I've heard people bickering about for ages! (hopefully the answer will come from someone who has done it/tryed it, not just someone who is going to create a theory of what would work!)
So I want to use my iMac as a screen for my Xbox 360, because, well, it would be awesome!
I have so far heard too many different things, for example, if I have a new 27" iMac (which i do) that its possibly just a single wire, mini DisplayPort to HDMI.
Another thing i have read said, it can only be a single mini DisplayPort to HDMI as long as i have 8GB of Ram.
Another has said I need to get a complete video converter to run through my mini DisplayPort that would cost around 150 pounds.
I'm a student and cant really afford to be wrong other wise I would guinea pig this myself, so what im asking for here is someone to lay the smack down. Which is it, if any?!
Does anyone even know if it has been successfully done yet!? And if it has, to how much success, does it have high lag? Because the guys at AppleCare Support were pretty sure it has been, but they were not allowed to recommend me anything because there is no official Apple fix for it. . . . Hence the reason why i was directed here. . .
    Thanks in advance!

The answer is behind Door #3. It is a very expensive proposition.
The two way mini-DisplayPort on the 27" iMac will only accept DisplayPort signaling. So you need a device that has DisplayPort video output, such as a new MacBook Pro which can be attached to the iMac with a simple m-DP to m-DP cable. If you have a device with a DisplayPort video port you can attach it to the iMac with a DisplayPort to m-DP cable. But if the device has any other video output, then you need a video converter to convert the signal to DisplayPort. And most of these converters can only supply 720p to the iMac. One very expensive one can do 1080p.
You can get the converters from Kanex and Atlona.

  • Importing xbox 360 video clips into imovie 6.0.3sk

Hi, I have an xbox 360 that I would like to import some video clips off of onto my computer using imovie. I have a Powermac G4 with a dual 1.4 ghz cpu, 2 GB of RAM, and lots of HD disk space. I am using an ADS Pyro A/V link for capturing video. I have used this many times in imovie to capture video directly from a TV, VCR, DVD player, etc. For some reason when I hook up the cable from the xbox 360 to the Pyro (using either component connection or composite/RCA connection) and hit play in imovie to preview what's being converted, it can't process it. Sometimes it will show a bunch of pixelated squares, sometimes it won't show anything. Every once in a while it can process the sound, otherwise it doesn't show anything. After a few times, it says the pyro has been disconnected, although it obviously hasn't been. I've also tried directly importing without previewing it during the import, but that doesn't work either. I'm not sure if I need to set something a certain way? But I know you can import from the 360 because there are obviously many video clips floating around the internet taken straight from the xbox.
Anybody know anything about this or have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Nevermind...I figured it out. There is a little button on the video cable that toggles HDTV on or off. Apparently it has to be off. So if anyone else has this problem, hopefully they can learn from my mistake.
