XBOX 360 with a WRT54GX4 WIRELESS ROUTER.

I'm trying to get this router to work with the xbox 360. I have it hard wired. I can connect to xbox life but am limited to who or haow fast it finds people to play with due to strict NAT settings? How can I change this. Xboxsays this is what the problem is. Thanks Brian

Access routers set up using ..... 192.168.1.1 under address bar of Explorer ... it will ask you for usrname & password .....
Leave username blank & in pasword use admin ....
Under setup look for MTU ..... by default it is under Auto ..... make it manual ..... & change the size from 1500 to 1365 ....
Click save settings .....
agian check if itshows NAT strict.....

Having lag problems when playing on the XBOX 360(wireless connection) after we installed our new WRT160N wireless router. Looking for ideals on how to fix this performance problem?

A few more thoughts:
- Changing the channel settings does NOT achieve anything. I manually tried every setting with no success.
- Changing the encryption settings did not help. I tried "open", WEP and WPA and none of them work.
- Even when this problem shows up, the xbox360 wireless adapter successfully finds and associates with the wireless network. It even manages to read data from the network - it just does it VERY SLOWLY and disconnects often. This causes extreme lag in xbox live games, which shows up as unpredictable play and disconnects from games.
- The fact that G-only mode works fine pretty much proves that this problem can be fixed with a firmware change. The xbox360 wireless adapter and the WRT160N can definately talk to each other using 802.11g successfully so there must be some issue with negotiating the correct version of 802.11x.
- I've considered trying a third-party firmware, such as DD-WRT to see if this fixes the problem. Has anyone tried this and if so what happened?
If you are seeing this problem, please reply to this thread and say so. If enough people respond perhaps Linksys will fix the problem. Even if you're not registered with this board, registering is very quick and easy so don't let that deter you.

I have my router on one end of the house and my xbox on the other end. i was told that i can prioritize my xbox on my router so that it doesn't lag as much or at all anymore. i was wondering how i can do this.

Who is your Internet Service Provider..?
If you are getting lag on the X-Box then,try to reduce the MTU value to 1365 on the router,power cycle the router and check...

WRT54GX4 Wireless Router and Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter

I just got an Xbox 360 with a Wireless Networking Adapter. The adapter will recognize the network, but won't connect to it. Even if I remove the security, the Xbox 360 won't connect. Is there something else via the router I'm supposed to be doing? I called Microsoft and they said to open the port settings, but I don't know if that's really the issue and I don't know how to do that if I need to.
The ports they gave me were:
TCP 80
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
UDP 53
TCP 53

7) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
8) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...

Using Airport Extreme with a Netopia Wireless Router 2247NWG

Hi, I'm trying to set up an airport extreme base station (AEBS) with a netopia wireless router and my XP SP3 Laptop. I have the extreme plugged into the router and the set up of the AEBS went fine. I have a solid green light on the AEBS and it appears to be working OK. When I move to another room in the house, I have two wireless networks available - the netopia wireless router and the AEBS. Whichever of the networks I connect to, the signal strength is extremely poor and the other is showing available with 5 bars. When I connect to the strong network, the signal goes weak and the original network is available with 5 bars. I've tried disabling the wireless on the router but this doesn't help. The router network is still showing as available with 5 bars but I can't connect to it.
First day with my MAC gear (haven't even opened the MacBook box yet) and I need help!!!!!!!!!!!

So, today I finally broke down and plugged them both into the two available ports in the back of the AEBSn via ethernet cables. My question is: Do I have to "turn off" the airport connection in order to make the ethernet connection the default connection?
That might help but it isn't necessary. You can simply rearrange the order of items in the Network preference pane.

I saw Airport Express and am very interested to buy this. However, before I proceed to buy, it would want to see if it can work with my Belkin N1 Wireless Router and how.
Preferred setup is
DSL Modem <-> Airport Express <-> Belkin N1 Wireless <-> Laptop
Can anyone advise
1. Can Airport work with Belkin N1 Wireless Router?
2. How do i setup the above configuration?

Preferred setup is
DSL Modem <-> Airport Express <-> Belkin N1 Wireless <-> Laptop
The <-> is normally a display for an ethernet connection. The AirPort Express only has one ethernet port, and it will be used to connect to the DSL modem in your example.
So, it would not be possible to connect the Belkin device the AirPort Express using <-> ethernet.

I have gotten the coupon using my .edu email for the free Xbox 360 with a laptop purchase of $699 or higher from College Student Deals
but have seen that it says I need a valid student ID to get the deal. I have just graduated from high school and have not gone to orientation yet so I do not have a student ID from college yet. I have a high school student ID still. Does anybody know if they really check for IDs or if a high school ID would work? If not, there are other online places I can get the PC and get the laptop using only my .edu email, such as the Microsoft Store, HPDirect.com, NewEgg, and Dell.com and I will get a computer from one of those sources. I only wanted to get my laptop at BestBuy because I can g check out the laptop before I purchase it plus I hate waiting for shipping. I get impatient when having to wait for items ordered. I had this same problem, I had to enable three things. enable UPnP, enable Allow users to make congiguration changes, enable Allow users to disable internet access. You most likely have the first two I mentioned enabled but the last one is the one I didn't have enabled and once I enabled then I had open NAT

I just bought a WRT54G wireless router (Ver 8.0; firmware updated to latest). I have successfully connected my wireless laptop using WEP security, but I'm at wits end trying to get the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to work. (It worked just fine with my Netgear router until that router recently died.)
When I do the "Test Media Connection" routine (you XBox 360 users know what I'm referring to), the Xbox immediately recognizes the Network Adapter and indicates that it is connected to the Wireless Network, but it inevitably fails the next step in the process: IP Address. I have the set-up for the IP address to be assigned automatically by the router (which is set for DHCP Server enabled).
I have gone around the mountain innumerable times myself and then with well-meaning friends who say try this, try that, try this, try that. I've had to re-establish my laptop set-up so many times I wanna scream!
Are the Xbox 360 wireless adapter and the WRT54G even compatible? If so, what am I missing here? I'm not too technical and obviously in over my head, but this ought not be that hard.

I don't think that the X-BOX adapter is not compatible to wireless rotuer .... there are few settings you can try on the router ... Access router setup page ... I am not getting a good connection through my wrt54g router with my xbox 360 and I am wondering if a WRT54AG router would do the trick. I know it would probably do better with the windows xp 2005 media center. Any suggestions?

My firmware was already updated to 1.02.0 and I tried tweaking to those numbers but still no difference , could it be I need an A+G router? I don't know what else to do, it works fine when the 360 is connected to just my modem, I get a great connection then, but with my router I get disconnected from xbox live after a few minutes. I'm thinking about purchasing a TimeCapsule along with an iMac to replace the family computer. My son has an Xbox 360 and is currently connecting wirelessly to the internet using the Microsoft Wireless Adapter and a Netgear router connected to the Windows desktop. I plan to replace the Windows desktop with the iMac and replace the Netgear router with the TimeCapsule. If this is what I do, will he still be able to connect to XboxLive? Please get back to me as soon as you can!

I think it only works if you use the network with 802.11b or g and a lesser security. The wireless 360 won't work with 802.11n and the wpa2 security.

Well im about to buy an apple airport extreme wireless router for my house. The router is going to be located on the second floor with my cable modem. Planning to put my airport express in my room on the third floor.
So i am just wondering if you can directly plug in the xbox 360 ethernet cable to the airport express for xbox live.

Xbox 360 can't even detect router in the house at all now???

My Xbox 360 was working just fine then my internet went out got that fixed now my Xbox 360 can't even detect a router in the house anymore. It can't detect a network,it doesn't even give me a wireless option to connect to on my 360,I ran the Linksys Easylink Advisor,it shows my 360 on there but it isn't lit up like it use to be. I called Linksys they can't even get it back online......I don't know what else to do to make it detect my 360,when they fixed my internet they bridged my router,don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

On your XBOX are you able to find anyother Wireless Networks? I think you need to make some changes on your Wireless Router as Well as on your XBOX, i think once you make all this changes on your router, this will solve your problem.

Click on the Wireless tab
-Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
