Xbox 360 + xbox wireless adapter + AEBS(g)

I've read a bunch of posts about AEBS and XBOX 360 and just can't find one that really pertains to my problem. If there is another post I'm missing, I apologize in advance.
I've got a 802.11g basestation and my 360 can't connect. Its not even recognized by my 360 when I search for wireless adapters on the xbox setup menu.
Very frustrating
please help.
I'm not running a closed network.
Mode = 802.11b/g compatible
Wireless Security = WPA Personal
thanks.

Exactly an identical issue and cannot resolve.
Saw post from Dec. 11, 2007 from piginawig (Xbox 360 with an airport extreme) but my attempts failed at achieving what he said was able to do.

Use the LAN port and cable. That way you'll get no interference and great data transfer. Or this maybe helps. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/homenetworking/equipment.htm

  • Connecting XBOX 360 Wirelessly to WRT300N V1.1

If you suffer from a slow connection when using your Xbox 360 usb wireless adapter and the wrt300n router, then fret no more! I called both xbox and linksys and below is what I came up with, which made my connection to Xbox Live work properly. This may even work with other routers as well
Setup for WRT300N V1.1 connected wirelessly to an XBOX 360 USB Wireless Adapter.
Connection Type: High Speed Cable Internet.
    Select Setup
     Select Basic Setup
Change the MTU setting to manual, edit size to be 1365.
    Save
    Select Security
Deselect the “Filter Anonymous Internet Requests”
    Save
    Select Applications & Gaming
    Select PortRange Forwarding
For the first port input the following:
    Start ~ EndPort: 88 to 88
    Protocol: UDP
    To IP Address: 100
    Check Enable
    Application Name: xbox1
For the second port input the following:
    Start ~ EndPort: 3074 to 3074
    Protocol: Both
    To IP Address: 100
    Check Enable
    Application Name: xbox2
    Save
    Select Administration
    Disable Upnp
    Save
This should allow for a smooth connection.

Thank you for your reply.  However, there is still some confusion on my part.
How does setting up a static IP on the PC help me connect to the Xbox 360 wirelessly?   Please explain.
The static IP Doesn't help you connect wirelessly, it helps you set up port forwarding properly.   So that is step 1
Step 2 would be for you connecting wirelessly, and I am pretty sure the actiontec is already security enabled, so if it is then you would look on the router itself for a silverish sticker that has an ESSID and a WEP KEY   When going through your xbox set up you will have a list of networks to choose from, make sure what you try to connect to matches the ESSID found physically on the router, and then it will ask you for a password or a network key and that is when you put in your WEP key.   That would get you on wirelessly.
the static ip is exclusively for your port forwarding and should only really be used if once your connected to the xbox wirelessly - if it's still having trouble.   that would be when you would set up the port forwarding as I kinda described earlier.  so you put in your xbox the static ip address, and then your router will route traffic to and from it based on that ip.   mine didn't need the static ip it would connect wirelessly automatically or via dhcp, but when the network dragged or i got bad performance, that is when I went to port forwarding.

  • After 7.3.1, extremely slow wireless on Xbox 360 and PS3

Everything was running good on my PS3 and Xbox 360 connected wireless to my Airport Extreme. I upgraded to 7.3.1 and now things are running very slow. I also saw some very slow transfers from one Macbook Pro to another, both connected via Wireless N (0.5 MB/sec).
I'd reset the router and modem and have no idea what the deal is. Anybody have any thoughts? I tried connecting my PS3 and Xbox 360 with an ethernet cable and speeds go back to normal. Too bad I can't run a wire where I am now.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

I'm a bit lay entering this discussion. But I too experienced this problem with my PS3. I benchmarked my AirPort with my old DL524-UP, and amazingly, the AirPort was about 30 to 50% slower both on my PS3 and my PC. So I checked out the settings on the D Link to figure out a variable that might be having an impact. I noticed that the D Link was configured to Channel 6. So I changed the AirPort settings from auto to Channel 6, did another benchmark, and what do you know. Suddenly my PS3 and PC are downloading beautifully. So that's my solution to this widespread problem - manually select channel 6!

  • XBox 360 direct cabled to Airport Extreme...

I thought this would be easy and straightforward, but it ain't.
My Airport Extreme base station is right next to my XBox 360, so wireless is really unnecessary. I just ran an ethernet cable from the XBox to the ethernet port on the AE base station thinking it would connect without trouble, but the Xbox is not getting an IP address from the base station. Everything else is fine, all wirelessly connected devices are connecting normally.
Am I overlooking something here? Is that ethernet port not compatible for some reason?

Verify that the Xbox is connected to the LAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

  • Airport Express & XBox 360

I have done, what i would call, a lot of research. I have heard that you can and can't configure your xbox 360 to an airport express. Then you can but without any sort of encryption and so forth. Can someone with exceptional experience please squash this question. How and if it is possible configure your airport express to your xbox 360. Let me be more specific! My iMac is connected to the internet through the modem via ethernet. I am trying to connected my airport express to my 360 wirelessly from the iMac. I am running leopard 10.5.1.

I am not sure if this was answered or not, as I cannot confirm which setups you are discussing. Here is what I am trying to do:
    1) XBOX 360 via Ethernet to Airport Express
    2) Airport Express via wireless to Airport Extreme Base
    3) Airport Extreme base via Ethernet to DSL router
Some responses say this works, some say it does not. I think mostly the descriptions of what people are "TRYING" to do are too confusing, so as to make responses unclear. So, the question is, will this work or do I need to get a wireless adapter to connect my XBOX 360 via wireless to the Airport Express (which is what I am trying to do because I don't have $100 for the XBOX wireless adapter.)
Thanks for any and all responses.

  • Xbox 360 & The New Time Capsule

Had the old Time Capsule and the Xbox 360 via wireless worked fine with 3 bars most of the time. I have just replaced this with the Dual-Band Time Capsule and although the Xbox 360 works fine with it once again - when I check the network status - it sits at 3 bars then drops straight to one red bar and stays in the red. it is hard to check if the speed is affected as the 360 never shows download speeds. Has anyone else had this problem with the new model?

First, you need to understand, at the same distance, 5GHz signal is much weaker then 2.4GHz signal. Therefore, in some setups, 5GHz will be slower than 2.4GHz.
When Apple released the dual-band range of products. They have to update all the clients so they can work with dual-band simultaneously, by checking the link-speed in real time.
Now your 360 wifi adapter can operate in both bands but can not operate on them simultaneously. So you will have to manually adjust which band you think is best for your setup. If your 360 is working slowly in the 5GHz band, you need to force the adapter to work in the 2.4GHz band instead. (You can see the client's link-speed by using the Airport Utility's Stats function.)
I don't have 360, and I don't know how to force it to operate in 2.4GHz band.

  • Question about port forwarding 2 xbox 360s to get rid of NAT on one of them

I have a xbox 360 with the official xbox 360 wireless antenna that is already set up for port forwarding and my NAT is fine.  My brother has a xbox 360 and he has a NAT problem but he doesn't have a official xbox 360 wireless antenna, he hooked up his laptop to his xbox 360 via ethernet cable and is using his laptops wireless card for the connection and he gets a NAT error when he tests his connection to xbox live.  Is it possible to port forward 2 xbox's?  I'm sure I have to set up some type of static IP for him but the thing is that I'm not sure what IP address to assign to him.  If it is possible, would he have to use a static IP address on his laptop since he's using that for a wireless connection?  If this is at all possible could someone post some step-by-step instructions on how I should set this up?  Below I will give you what I have set up for my xbox 360 to open up my NAT I just want to know what static IP I can use for him.  Can I use just any numbers?
In my port forwarding tab in my wireless modem I have the following:
and in my xbox i have the following settings:
    IP address: 192.168.1.20
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2
    Secondary DNS: 192.168.1.1
I have all that entered for myself and my xbox NAT is open.  I just need to set up his xbox if it is at all possible.  Please help!!!
P.S. My router is a WRT54GS v2.0 with updated firmware, just incase you need that info.
Message Edited by nourotherleft on 01-08-2009 03:20 PM

ok that still didn't help me.... he still has a NAT problem.... I don't....I went to port triggering and added the ports that you described but it didn't open his NAT... If the connection is going through his laptop(acting like the xbox 360's wireless antenna) wouldn't either his laptop or his xbox need a static ip? because I had to set up my xbox manually with the following addresses:
    ip: 192.168.1.20
    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    default gateway: 192.168.1.1
    primary dns: 4.2.2.2
    secondary dns: 192.168.1.1
so in essence wouldn't his laptop need to be configured with some kind of static ip or something? because if he puts in what I just stated into his xbox it wont connect at all because I guess the ip's are conflicting....so what do I do now?

  • WRT300Nv1 and Xbox 360

I just got set up yesterday with this combo, and so far so good.  Upgraded firm ware as well.  Just wanted to know the best way to achieve optimal performance and speed.  Any configuration suggestions on the router would be much obliged. Thank you for reading.
    Running WinXP Pro
    Xbox 360 w/wireless
    2 Xbox wireless controllers
Should I run it exclusively on G band? Or mixed B/G?  Should I broadcast, use DMZ, QoS, or close a MAC?  Just new to all of this and want to maximize the router and bandwith to the 360 when it and the cpu are looking for a share.

  • Airport extreme connecting with xbox 360 wireless adapter problems...help!!

Has anyone linked their xbox 360 wireless adapter to an Airport Extreme? I need help! Neither Apple nor Microsoft knew how to link the two devices. If anyone has successfully been able to make this work, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks guys

Yes - Mine works no problem. I have found that I have to unplug the Xbox360 wireless adaptor and plug it back in occasionally (if the green light is on everything is fine). Are you using the correct WPA Key?

  • Xbox 360 wireless adapter wont connect to Airport Express/cant find ip

i have a time warner modem with the ethernet cable plugged into my airport express to create a wireless network in my house. my macbook and dell connect with no prob.
the xb recognizes the airport express, shows it as connected with green bars, but when i try to log into xbox online, it says that there is no connection.
i can plug in the ethernet cable from the xb to the airport ex and there is no problem. only when trying to use the wireless adapter.
how can i stop this? also, how can i find my IP address?
since the xb wouldnt connect and find my ip automatically, i tried to do it manually. when i go to terminal on my macbook and enter "ipconfig e0", i dont see an IP address.
i have seen a lot of info on this but it mainly deals with airport extreme or those who are trying to connect to airport express with an ethernet cable.
so if you can help me troubleshoot the wireless connection between my xb and my airport ex OR explain how i can find my IP address, i would be very grateful.
FYI---the airport express was purchased in april, so i believe it is the new "n" model.
    thanks for all your help.

Gary Sanborn, please share your tricks. I'm curious to know how you got it to work. I used to have the old Express and that worked just fine. The new version (n) doesn't seem to connect to xbox live. As previously stated, mine also shows "connected" and a strong green bar signal on the xbox but the text can't get passed "connected to live"... if I'm not mistaken.
I heard about holding down the option button white selected the type of wireless connection and connecting to wireless b only. I would want to avoid this option. I don't want my express to run that slow. Please advice. Thanks in advance.
By the way, I haven't tried it since recently upgrading to OS X 10.5.3. I wasn't sure if that affected airport's connectivity with xbox 360.

  • Does the Xbox 360 wireless adapter even work with the WRT54G wireless router?!!? If so, how???

I just bought a WRT54G wireless router (Ver 8.0; firmware updated to latest).  I have successfully connected my wireless laptop using WEP security, but I'm at wits end trying to get the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to work.  (It worked just fine with my Netgear router until that router recently died.)
When I do the "Test Media Connection" routine (you XBox 360 users know what I'm referring to), the Xbox immediately recognizes the Network Adapter and indicates that it is connected to the Wireless Network, but it inevitably fails the next step in the process:  IP Address.  I have the set-up for the IP address to be assigned automatically by the router (which is set for  DHCP Server enabled).
I have gone around the mountain innumerable times myself and then with well-meaning friends who say try this, try that, try this, try that.  I've had to re-establish my laptop set-up so many times I wanna scream!
Are the Xbox 360 wireless adapter and the WRT54G even compatible?  If so, what am I missing here?  I'm not too technical and obviously in over my head, but this ought not be that hard.
Please, please do NOT respond unless you KNOW the answer!  I don't mean to be curt, but I'm over / past "suggestions to try."
Thank you VERY much for your time and consideration if you can help me.

I don't think that the X-BOX adapter is not compatible to wireless rotuer .... there are few settings you can try on the router ... Access router setup page ... Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub tab "Port range forwarding" 1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 2) On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 3) Now save the settings 4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration" and disable the UPNP and save the settings. 5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox ip address :- 192.168.1.20 subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0 default gateway :- 192.168.1.1 Please assign the dns address on the xbox primary dns :- 4.2.2.2 secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1 6) Please try to test your xbox live. Hope it works ...
