I have the latest downloadable version of LR5. It crashed while it was createing 1:1 previews during an import. After a Win7(64) restart, it shows a message that LR needs to quit because it can't read the preview files and it will try to fix it the next

I get the same message the next and every subsequent time it launches so I can't launch LR at all now.
I get that the preview file got corrupted somehow. Is there some way to fix this problem without building a new catalog?

Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. You will see a folder with the extension .lrdata. You need to delete that folder and then start Lightroom again. Lightroom will generate a new previews folder.

my copy of 4.1.2 appears to work under 10.6.8, though i have not done extensive tests

v4 is pretty lonh in the tooth now, and GB only costs $15, so I'd think it's a good idea

My IPod will not automatically advance to the next song.

IPod will not automatically advance to the next song. I have updated and restored. The Shuffle has the two arrows crossing which I believe means it should be advancing. Any suggestions?

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat (the right hand side features the Shuffle feature). You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't, tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.

Assuming the phone isn't jailbroken, the basic steps (as needed) are:
Restart phone (you already did this)
Reset phone
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

If your phone is jailbroken, this is the most frequent cause of the problems you described. Restoring could permanently brick the phone.
Note that your iOS is old and the current version is 4.2.8. It's odd that it wasn't updated when your activated your phone in iTunes, being that you got it last Friday.

FF 27.0.1 on Linux Mint 16 XFCE, up to date.
I have my Preferences set to 'Show my home page'.
Every time I close FF with the X in the top left corner, it comes up and asks me "Do you want Firefox to save your tabs for the next time it starts?". I check the box not to be asked next time, and have tried both Save and Quit, and just Quit. When I open the browser again it seems to randomly decide whether to open all the tabs I had last time, or sometimes (rarely) just my home page tabs.
I don't want it to open all the tabs I had open, and I don't want the question every time I quit FF. I've used FF for years with XP, but I am new to Mint.

Does setting the "warnon" prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page to false has any effect?

Go to the folder with you Lightroom Catalog (usually in Pictures) and delete the folder ending in .lrpreviews
This contains the previews for the files Lightroom has linked to. They will need to be rebuilt which can be done while working or selecting an amount you want to rebuild and accessing the rebuild command in the Library Dropdown menu...

[SOLVED] Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, how to make it work?

How can I get this to work under Arch? the controller gets detected at /dev/input/js0 and I if cat the file I get a bunch of symbols (which I read that means it works).
However, I can make it work with anything, am I missing something?
It even gets detected as: Bus 004 Device 003: ID 045e:0719 Microsoft Corp. Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter
The light on the controller keeps blinking but thats normal also.
If anyone can help out with this I would really appreciate it.

Already read that but didn't help. However I found the problem. Controller wouldn't sync with the wireless receiver. I ended up using xboxdrv userspace driver and after sync it worked like a charm, even the xbox light stops blinking and stays fixed on the player 1

I just upgraded to the latest firmware since my Xbox 360 Wireless adapter can't connect to my router. I still have the same problem and can't figure it out. I read some of the other posts, and opened up the correct ports in my router 88 & 3074. I even disabled wireless security and I still can't connect.
My wireless adapter is a solid red. I can connect just fine with a wired network cable. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?
It's a brand new Xbox too and there shouldn't be any problems with it.

Make sure the wireless settings are configured correctly. Also check with the adapter.

When will Creative release information on the next generation X-Fi

I'm looking into the Creative Zen X-Fi but there's too many negati'ves surrounding it. No .ogg support, no integration of SD and media, and poor implementation of other features are keeping me away. However, do we know when Creative is going to release information on the next-gen X-Fi?

Interesting look at the card, looks very sparse compared to current gen boards, maybe a sign that the work will in fact be handled by the CPU as Vista seems to be dictating. I guess with multiple cores nowadays, everything will eventually be handled by the CPU, what's next, video software rendering? (think AMD ATI)

Will my new iMac run the next OS X 10.5?

I've just got my iMac yesterday, it is my first Apple and I love it very much.
But I am a little worried whether it will run Leopard?
It has 2Ghz dual core processor, 1GB RAM and 128 graphic card.

More memory is always helpful with new OSs. It seems that cpus from Intel can be dropped in easily enough. And any new OS will eat up more disk space it seems.
I tried to get my brother to go for 1.5-2.0 GB RAM but he didn't realize Macs were so memory hungry. The sweet spot seems to be about 1.5GB. With 1GB my MacPro was constantly using 900MB and creating swap files and doing more pageouts than I wanted, cured by adding another GB of RAM.
Just be sure to do backups and make it a habit

My MacBook Air screen will not light up beyond the darkest level

This is especially true when I plug in my external harddrive to the computer while it's still asleep and then try to wake it. It is so dark that it's hard to tell if the computer is actually on, so when I try to shut it off and back on, the screen will flash gray for a second and then go back to black. Help?
