Xbox live nat help

Hello all i need help trying to figure out a nat problem that i am having. I start out with a open nat on xbox live when i run the test but after running the test several times my nat will change from open nat to modrate nat for what reason i do not know but i need help trying to figure out how to fix this problem i am useing a wrt160nv2 router thanks.

NAT issues are quite common in this type of setup. Check out this article from the Xbox forum: Strict or moderate NAT type. You will need to adjust some settings on the router to resolve the NAT error on Xbox Live. Enabling UPnP and port forwarding should do the trick. You can refer to the following article for more information about these workarounds: Resolving NAT type issues with gaming consoles through a Linksys router.

  • WRT160N V3 Two Xbox 360 consoles Xbox live NAT Resolution

Has anyone found a solution to the NAT problems involving two xbox 360s connecting to xbox live using the WRT160N V3 at the same time?  I always get one that reads Open NAT (usually the 1st one to sign in) and one that gets the dreaded Strict NAT type.  I have read of various solutions yet many of them do not resolve the issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated!!

You can try the below mentioned settings and check.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
On the set-up tab change the MTU Size to 1365 and click Save Settings...
Click on "Administration" tab and disable the option UPnP and click Save Settings...
Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Range Forwarding" subtab...
    1) On the first line in Application box type in ABC, in the start box type in 53 and End box type in 3074, leave the protocol as both and under ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and check the enable box, click Save Settings once done...
    2) Once you return to the set up page click on the Security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...
3)Click on the Status tab and take note of DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses...
    4) Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
    IP Address :- 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.1.1...
    5) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
Use DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses you took note off of the router status tab as Primary DNS & Secondary DNS for the xbox...
    6) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
    7) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...
IP Address: 192.168.X.[last part of ip in your device]    e.g. if static ip given to the device was 192.168.X.10 get the last part and put that to the empty box.

  • Opening ports for my xbox live NAT type

I need help on how to open the ports needed to successfully pull my NAT setting from "strict" to "open" on XBox Live. Those of you here that have it, probably know what Im talking about.
The ports I need to open are the following:
    UDP 88
    UDP 3074
    TCP 3074
Ive tried already, but it didnt work. I think I did something wrong.
    Thanks

    Hi AEX,
First thing you have to make sure is that, you have to assign a static ip address on XBOX like 192.168.1.10, with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and gateway 192.168.1.1
Now Forward the ports you have to this static ip address, which you assign to your XBOX
Also make sure you are running latest firmware on your linksys router. You can check from www.linksys.com/download , If it is not latest, download and update to latest version.

  • Xbox Live Nat problem

Hi guys, I searched around the forum and did the port forwarding, Dmz, UPnP and all that other stuff and it still comes up as moderate. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or it is because my internet provider is Charter which runs on a private server. -Matt

Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub
    tab "Port range forwarding"
    1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.
    2)   On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip

    3) Now save the settings
    4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration"
and disable the UPNP and save the settings.
    5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox
       ip address :- 192.168.1.20
       subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0
       default gateway :- 192.168.1.1
Please assign the dns address on the xbox

Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Open the setup page of the router.
Change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings.
Go to Security tab and uncheck the box ' Filter anonymous Internet request'.
Go to the administration tab and disable the UPnP.
Go to wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings. Change the beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307, fragmentation threshold to 2306.
Go to Application and gaming tab and click on port triggering. You may need to Trigger the ports 53, 88, 3074.
Who is your Internet service provider?
Open the setup page of the router and check the Internet IP address on the status page. Make sure that it is a public IP address.

  • How do I change my NAT from "strict" so I can properly use Xbox LIVE?

I am able to connect to Xbox LIVE, but the Xbox (360) reports my NAT as "strict", which means I don't have a good connection and can't even participate in some things like tournaments on Project Gotham Racing 3.
I've spent hours researching this on the net. No luck yet, but here's what I've tried so far:
One post (http://forums.xbox.com/8109385/PrintPost.aspx) said there are three ways to fix my problem: (1) Use UPnp (universal plug 'n' play, the equivalent of which on the Airport Express seems to be NAT Port Mapping Protocol), (2) Set up a DMZ (demilitarized zone, which is called a Default Host by the Airport Express), and (3) Port Mapping.
First, turning on NAT Port Mapping Protocol doesn't have an effect on my Xbox-reported NAT rating of "strict".
Second, I tried setting up a Default Host at 10.0.1.253 then assigning my Xbox an IP of 10.0.1.253. I assigned this IP only through the Xbox's network settings. It seems like I was supposed to assign the IP to the Xbox using the Airport Admin Utility, but if there's a way of doing so, I don't see it. Also within the Xbox's network settings, I set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 10.0.1.1 (my Airport Expres). When I tested the connection to Xbox LIVE, I failed at the DNS stage. So I manually set the DNS info to the primary and secondary DNS specified by my ISP (and shown in the Internet tab of Airport Admin Utility). I retested my connection to Xbox LIVE. Now I passed the DNS test but failed the next test, called MTU. I looked up how to set the MTU and did so according to these instructions from the Apple Support pages: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303192. I tried MTU values of 1400, 1500, 1362 (recommended minimum specified on Xbox), and 3000 but was unable to pass the MTU test on the Xbox.
I tried port mapping as explained on the Microsoft Xbox forums (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874) and further explained here: http://www.jakeludington.com/xbox/20060103xbox_live_connectionproblems.html. I tried to do this with the Port Mapping tab in Airport Admin Utility, but I wasn't able to specify all of the information given in that last link, so I don't know if I did it right.
Hours of work and no success, but this ought to be possible, right? Help?
    20" iMac 1.25GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I tried to do this with the Port Mapping tab in Airport Admin Utility, but I wasn't able to specify all of the information given in that last link, so I don't know if I did it right.
As you already know, XBox Live requires three ports to communicate: UDP 88, UDP 3074, & TCP 3074. The AirPort Express Base Station doesn't distinguish between UDP & TCP for port mapping, so you will only need to map one port for the UDP/TCP 3074 values.
    Try the following...
    Port Mapping tab
    - Click "Add"
    - Public Port: 88
    - Private Address: 10.0.1.253
    - Private Port: 88
    - Click "Ok"
    - Click "Add"
    - Public Port: 3074
    - Private Address: 10.0.1.253
    - Private Port: 3074
    - Click "Ok"

  • XBOX ONE. I have the xbox one and the airport time capsule and cant connect to most xbox live games and zero parties. I have 0 experience in all this but somehow was able to change NAT to open but still wont connect. HELLLPPPP

Okay folks, I need your help out there.
So the nerdy side of me went and picked up the XBOX ONE on release day. Its awesome by the way, BUT..... I cant seem to connect to most xbox live games and absolutely ZERO parties. At first I just thought it was something to do with the xbox itself and would eventually fix itself, but i was wrong. After looking into it on microsoft, i found out that it had to do with my NAT settings on the airport itself. I guess apple and xbox are not compatiable for xbox live and it makes it difficult to have an open NAT setting and is a huge PAIN.
I was able to pinpoint one that the airport time capsule was blocking the IPV6 something or another. Anyways, I unblocked that, and reset the modem and time capsule and jumped on the xbox and now have open NAT settings but still cant connect to multi-player.
Upon further searching, i was told to uncheck the UPNP on my time capsule as well, but have no idea how to find that.
I know it seems confusing, but thats the best i can describe it.
    tthanks all

Be a long long time before I see an Xbox One.. but whoever told you to uncheck the upnp in the TC.. tell them their dreamin' .. upnp is not support by Apple in any computer or router, never has been.. Apple deliberately wrote their own version called NAT-PMP to do the same thing.. dynamically open ports at the request of an application or client computer.
So there is nothing like that to uncheck.. and as a matter of interest.. there no box to check or uncheck for NAT-PMP either.. since apple do not believe in end user adjustment of settings.. they simply do not exist.
You will have to manually forward all ports required by the Xbox via the TC. For multi-player games you probably need to open more ports than the standard to allow just xbox live. You will need to check the ports required and open them.
    OR
Buy a standard vista UPNP compatible router.. and use that.. and simply put the TC in bridge in the network.
I have not seen posts yet about xbox one.. but there are plenty about xbox and ps3 and the fact that Apple really doesn't give a hoot about games consoles.
This is a good basic post for older xbox.

  • Connecting directly from my modem to XBOX 360 Live Please Help me.

Please help me I keep getting the message on my Xbox live that I can connect but that I have moderate nat. You see I play Final Fantasy online using Xbox live and I keep getting disconnected in the game..every 10 minutes..exactly. It's really annoying. The problem has to be the NAT.
I connect directly from my modem to the Xbox 360. I have no router. My modem is a Westell 6100G that's what it says on the front. On the bottom of the modem it says: Model: G90-610015-20. My connection speed is 1 MB.
Please someone help me if I need to reconfigure the modem. I do know how to get into the modem reconfiguration web page but don't know what to do in there. Please help.

  • Cannot get Xbox Live to report NAT Open whatever i try.

    Hi,
Ive read everything i can find on the internet about the latest Airport Extreme Base Station and Xbox Live and I cannot for the life of me manage to get the Xbox 360 to report "NAT - OPEN" during tests. Worst still it always comes back as NAT Strict.
I used to have an old Airport Extreme (the dome one) at my old place and the NAT was always Open on that and i dont even remember opening ports.
Ive checked all the threads and suggestions on this forum and nothing is working.
So far, i given my 360 a fixed IP both on the 360 itself, and then on the Airport Extreme by using the 360's wired MAC address. Ive checked that the IP is outside of the DCHP range which it is, and ive power cycled both devices many times and the 360 will always connect to the static IP ive set it up on - so that works.
Ive port forwarded all the ports Xbox Live needs (88 and 3074) and set them to its static IP - this didn't work.
Ive set the static IP of the Xbox 360 as DMZ (default host) and this didn't work either.
Ive power cycled my modem, my airport extreme and the 360 - this didn't work.
Ive unplugged everything from my Airport Extreme apart from the 360 - this didn't work.
I cannot see what else it could be, everytime I do the tests it reports back as strict.
My BeBox modem is definatly in bridge mode as all other port forwarding is working correctly for all software and hardware devices.
I personally cannot think of anything else as there really are not that many options to play with - and all ports are set to open for the 360 it should not be reporting as strict...
    Can anyone help?

I might add - this is definately an Airport Extreme issue as i just plugged the 360 directly into the modem via Ethernet to get a direct connection and test and NAT was reported as OPEN.

  • Problems with NAT and xbox live

i could once connect to xbox live using my westell 6100g which i received as an upgrade from the regular 6100 about 5 days ago. It worked fine yesterday and today it decided to change my NAT from "Open" to "Moderate".
how can i access my NAT so i can fix this frustrating problem? or how can i fix this ? I tried microsofts solutions including port forwarding but nothing works. my guess is my only option is to change the NAT but the interface of westell 6100's page is barely user friendly, and im a tech savvy guy. any help ?

  • Trying to change NAT connection from moderate NAT connection to an open NAT connection for XBOX LIVE

Hi, I have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router/WRT160Nv2 and I have been trying to change my NAT connection from a moderate NAT connection to a open NAT connection for my Xbox Live on my Xbox 360. I can sign into my Xbox Live account but it is working on a moderate NAT connection. I have already enabled the UPnP and put in the proper port numbers. After doing that I signed into my Xbox Live on my Xbox 360 and tested my Xbox Live connection and still it says that I a moderate NAT connection. I do not know what elso to do and I would greatly appreciate step by step help from anybody who knows what they are doing. PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!
    Thank you

A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time.  Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa.  It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.
